After struggling for days to get the snap ring off, I looked at my CHILTON manual and they said to use a compress tool. BOOM!! off, cleaned and repaired the annoying broken blinker!!

Two tools make the job easier. Steering wheel puller, and steering wheel lock plate remover. You can pick both of them up at the parts store pretty cheap. They will save you a lot of time and frustration.

can you do a video on turn signal harness replacement? I recently lost my horn, turn signals and hazards all at same time. 92 YJ...

My turn signal lever is flopping around. I thought you were going to tighten up yours in the video but I guess it was not needed. It looks hard on my 85 as the lever is in the next section of the column that would have to be removed and i hesitate to do that. My low beams dont work, but high does. Might be the headlight switch in the dash, nothing in the steering wheel. I will do that next.

So what was the horn issue ? I have the same problem, the horn works fine but even if i jumper port #2 to #4 in the relay box, the horn doesnt sound. So something must be amiss between the relay box and the horn connector plug.

  • @mikeof6
    @mikeof6 6 ปีที่แล้ว

There is a u-shaped tool that screws down over that plate that pushed it down to make that snap ring much easier to remove and install. However, one can't argue with the success you have using your technique. If your technique fails the tool is readily available. I believe I even saw it at Harbor Freight. Love you videos, just bought a 91 YJ a week ago and will start getting into it this weekend. Brakes first.

Not sure if you ever fixed the horn or not, but I'll tell you about my horn issue and the solution:
I have a Grant GT steering wheel and the horn had never worked since I bought the Jeep (it's a '94 YJ by the way). So I took it all apart and realized that the surface under the contact plate was not conductive. I guess there's a coating that Grant uses, so they send the install kit with a little metal plate that sits under the contact ring and touches the screws. Mine was missing.
SO! I took some aluminum foil, made a ring and taped it in there. Horn's been working great ever since!
    Hope this helps someone!

I recently had to dig around my steering column when my ignition key wouldn't turn. The whole turn signal system is removable as a single piece if you disconnect it from the harness near the base of the column, making it pretty easy to work on. I plan to swap out my stock stalk with one that has intermittent wipers next season. Just be careful about alignment for the high beam rod!

    • @JeepSolid

I should upgrade my column as well.

I would test the horn with a 12v battery, it could be bad. Then, if it's good, test the relay for continuitiy when you apply 12v to the two coil pins. If the relay is good, check with a voltmeter if you get power at the relay socket and fuse sockets. If you don't get power at the sockets, it's a connection issue further up the line. If you do get power, then it's a connection issue between the fuse box and the horn, test at the horn if you get 12v, if you do, it's probably a connection issue between the horn and the steering wheel. Hope that can help.

I have a 79 CJ 5 with the same problem but with the right turn not canceling. I replaced the the turn signal switch and put everything back together and tested. Still had the same problem. the left turn works fine and cancels out (turns off) when you straighten the steering wheel but the right turn will not cancel. I went back into it checked everything and put everything back together and still have the same problem. Any thoughts on what may be wrong?

On my 2007, my front turn signals will stop working, but rear work, they just flash faster. I thought it was bad bulbs, but we replaced them. It seems like if I hit a bump, they all start working right again. What do you think it could be? ground wires? Bad turn signal switch?

I have a ‘90 YJ base model. I replaced everything on the steering column. The Emergency flasher switch was snapped off also.
I put a new steering wheel on also so I decided to just put everything new inside.
New ignition switch, new key tumbler and keys, new blinker switch which houses the emergency flasher button, new blinker arm with the windshield wiper/washer switch, new dimmer switch.
The toughest part was feeding the flat wiring loom through the very narrow chase through the dash where it plugs in behind the dash.
I cut the old wire loom at the switch and pulled it out to get as much slack as possible.
Then I used duct tape and taped the new loom to the old loom. I taped it along the entire length of the slack of the old loom to increase the surface area to make the tape job extra strong.
Then I fished the new loom through the dash by pulling on the old loom behind the dash. It was a bitch. I lost some skin on my knuckles, but with a lot of manipulation it pulled all the way through and worked.
Everything in my steering column works perfect like new now.
I think I got most of the parts from Omix Ada. I’m super happy with the results and the parts were not very costly, but it was more of an ordeal than I thought it would be.
Pay attention to every single part and take pictures before you remove anything if you go deep like I did.

I have a problem with my washer jets. Hopefully you can help please. The wiper motor appears to be slightly weak but the washer jets have little to low pressure. The voltage at the jet plug shows 10.8v and fluctuates to 11.2v when held open to spray. I've cleared the lines but not yet had chance to grease the wiper mechanism. Is there a possible chance the is stalk could cause a washer fault or a dragging wiper motor. The wash pumps work fine when bypassed through a 12v jump pack. Tested the grounds which all seem fine. Fingers crossed you may help
