I changed all the sensors in my jeep today . It purrs like a cat to . Check engine light when off . It doesn't idle high and low no more . It runs so much better . Thanks for the vid
I have a '95 YJ. Had been having issues with intermittent high idle depending on ambient temperature outside. Would start in the mid 80's at about 1100-1200 RPM, up to 1800 RPM once it hit the mid 90's and up. Another mechanic finally figured out that the computer wasn't relearning the IAC Valve after it was replaced (it was bad). He had to use a computer to take control of the IAC and adjust it correctly because the computer wouldn't. Had the problem for 10 years. SO happy it's fixed- FINALLY!
I just did my cap and rotor with new wires, also put in a new fuel filter on my 1991 YJ. Finally got it running after 11 years of sitting. I will now be doing the senors for sure. Thank you👊🏻
I live in the U.K. and i have a yj 2.5 , have owned this motor for about 4 years and i absolutely love the old bird , dont see many YJs over here and in summer it is the most fun car on the road with the roof off and doors off she turns heads where ever she goes, i believe that every one should own a YJ at least once in their lives , she is 24 yrs old and when cleaned up she looks as good as when new ,bright red and loads of chrome, thanks for reading and hope i didnt bore you .

I have to thank you big time! Am no mechanic by any means, but this has been the best explained /detailed video on how to I’ve come across. Followed instructions to the T! Thanks!
Changing sensors after a period of time is wise-preventative maitenance. I had a vehicle with 150k, changed each sensor as cash allowed and most of them made subtle differences in engine operation. Taken together it makes a nice improvement. I pulled apart my TPS (the original) and the wires inside had a lot of white corrosion on them. Given that its job is to send a signal back to the computer to manage overall operation its important to have a clean signal. Corrosion will affect resistance and in turn send a weaker signal back to the computer. Changing the TPS made the single largest sensor improvement as far as "seat of the pants" go.
Great video man, THANK YOU! I have a YJ 87, it is missing a lot of staff, previous owner did not care. I'm trying to bring it back to life, this video will help.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing - One thing I'd add is for long-distance Jeepers 87-95 w/EFI 4.0's - Keep a spare CPS (Crank Position Sensor) in your gear bag. Either that or keep some de-greaser on hand and keep it clean. The magnet gets gunked up and dirty, throwing the timing way out and you may not be able to fire it up - It happened to me. Happy Jeeping!
Thanks for posting this sensor vid. I have 1997 Jeep XJ Sport that has been having some issues even after having the engine rebuilt. I'm going to replace the sensors, plugs, cap & rotor and I hope that will make a 100% improvement. The 4.0 I-6 is the workhorse of Jeep's and I know I can improve its performance with simple maintenance. Thanks!
Dude God has blessed me with you're video. Thank you Sir. My jeep has they absolutely worst surging idol and when I put my clutch in she dies out and is very very dangerous. Tomorrow morning I'm defiantly I'm cleaning my IAC and my Butterfly. Thank you so damn much.
Dude - THANK YOU, for this video, this is a HUGE help to us newbies, great shots of the parts and names and excellent views of the install, thanks again brother....
I love it that you’ve got the e-break light tripped as well! Haha same here bro. Bungie cord will help pull the e-break up and not keep it depressed to trip the light. It’s on my fix list too. >.
You are a brave man putting all that import autozone advance junk on at once. I have had 20s or more of parts be bad right out of the box. Not to mention say in the case of the o2, the 4.0 likes a certain factory brand and doesnt play well with others such as Bosch
He did use NTK O2 sensors, which are OEM. But yeah, I personally wouldn't do them all at the same time in case I needed to troubleshoot a problematic one
Another good sensor to maintain or watch is the crank/cam shaft position sensor, there are about 3-4 different sensor types depending on the year of the yj. If it dies or stop working, the jeep will not turn on. Trust me it happened to me lol
Hey thanks for this video! I ordered all of these (which btw make sure you do some shopping around before you go to one store and just buy them all you can easily shave $50 bucks off the price that way). Anyways, I'm having sputtering, surging, terrible gas smell, code 52, and around 3k rpm the jeep starts to lug out as if you have a limiter or are pumping the gas petal up and down. Hopefully these will help it out and make it run good again. I'll let you know!
Skippy A these parts should help you. Sounds like the ecm is trying to over compensate by adding loads of fuel for the miscalculation of air / spark / timing. All of these things are what the above mentioned sensors are trying to achieve. These sensors are trying to create a harmony with the engine. The gas smell is obviously the engine running rich and the sensors are what tell the ecm to make the engine run rich. Clean your throttle body real good when you replace your sensors and make sure to come back and let us know if it helped.
Alright well here's my follow up. Overall, the Jeep is running better. At stop lights the engine would want to stall when picking back up in first gear and that made for some pretty embarrassing moments haha. So the surging has been taken care of and it warms up from cold a lot better now without sputtering and such. However, I've run a good gas tank through it and code 52, gas smell and the odd issue of not wanting to go past 3k rpm persist. I'm at my wits end with this issue. I'm suspecting that the Catalytic converter might be clogged and therefore causing build up in the down pipe where the O2 sensor is and that is making the Jeep read rich. Does that make sense?
I've also done some modifications to the Jeep that could also be a cause of the issue. I have a 2.5L 4cy and in order to give it a bit more "Umph" I swapped out the 2.5L throttle body for a 4.0L throttle body and added 19lbs injectors to it. My friend did the same mod with no ill effects though so i'm skeptical.
you aren't kidding about driving someone crazy, our 99 jeep cherokee sport 2 door had a CPS go bad and it would crank over all day but never fire up. one $40 sensor later she purs like a kitten
I have a 1992 2.5 litre and want to replace all the sensors. Where do I get the list of them and get the best price? Also is there a video on how to replace them on the 2.5?
thanks for the video man! im going to do this to my 2.5l. question though. what steering wheel adapter are you using and what steering wheel? i love the look of it.
I own a 1995 wrangler. The map sensor is a GM. THE ECM COMPUTER is a Chrysler mopar. Jeeps in those years had many parts from different factories. Why? Is the question.
Great video. But, replaced the IAC and now it idles at 3k. Can't get the TPS out due to stripped bolts. O2 has possibly never been changed because it isn't moving if my life depended on it and I don't want to replace the entire pipe. Old cars man.
Any issues with the parts provided in the links? Some of the amazon reviews say they don't last or start to bug out compared to buying from a parts store
The reason it says GM on the sensor is that older jeeps are notorious for using a bunch of different parts on the vehicle. Alot of GM parts and sensors are used.
I intend to change myself the catalityc conversor but my doubt is if the 1995 model has or not a sensor plug mounted on te conversor? Thank you for your help!

Great video! I am new at all this (just bought my first 92 YJ) so it was very helpful. Quick question though: after I changed the MAP sensor, I started the rig, the check engine light came on, the start was difficult, and the Jeep idled weird (high). Any thoughts?
Disconnect battery for 1 minute, reconnect. Let it run for a few minutes. Let the codes all establish new baselines. Should straighten out. If not, check the new engine code to see what other failures you have.
I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ, 4.0, 5 spd., Is there any reason NOT to use Auto Zone or O’Relly parts, for this job? I’ve heard roomers they have subpar parts for Jeeps? Who do you recommend for all high quality Jeep replacement parts? I have had fit problems with my motor mounts & VSS: Vehicle Speed Sensor, wrong threads on both and was told my new rear drive shaft U joints were subpar. And what about the Crank position sensor, when should you replace that sensor? Thanks for a great video, keep up the great work.
just depends on the year in which you bought or are buying and which parts, their quality can vary, as can any company's, due to moving manufacturing to/or back from china, specs changing, getting a bad reputation and trying to rebuild it..... a lot of info on who's parts are bad is old and they are now good again, or vice-versa for example, do (2017) get an odyssey battery, but don't get the others that used to be good
Anybody know what parts become compatible, if for example I have a 91 YJ but a 97 2.5 (TJ). Say for instance a starter. Am I okay getting a tj starter for a tj engine? Stuff like that. Is there a point where it may not matter. It could be compatible with a yj? This jeep seems to be TJ in its engine, transmission, and transfer case. Or changing out the heater core. Can that be a YJ heater core instead of aTJ heater core? I'm guessing sensors all around and muffler sensor better be TJ related? It makes it so much fun asking for parts at the parts store.
I got an issue with my 94 yj that has been bothering me for a while.after driving for like 30 minutes or more, when i stop and try to restart the jeep,it cranks but will not start.so i have to wait for some hours then it will start like magic😄😄..i appreciate your thoughts on this.thanks!

Before watching the video I went ahead and replaced the IAC and TPS. The RPM when it is now idling at 1000, is that still too high? Or do you think I should replace the other 3 parts as well? I also cleaned the throttle body flap really good, it was reallllly bad before.
I mean if I can't get to it right away would that be an issue? If I has to wait about a week or two? Very light driving btw. I don't think so but just thought I'd ask.
@@Archifx oh okay, so I'm looking to do a super tune on my 92 YJ and was wondering if I should use the links you gave or the more expensive ones which won't cause any malfunctions or any problems
Adrian Angulo that jeep looks fuel injected they didn't start doing fuel injection on the six cylinder until 93 or 94 when they came out with the 4.0 before then it was the 4.2 carbureted
Not sure of brand but the one I installed in this video is still perfect years later. Just don’t get the cheapest one. Get one that’s recommended by your parts pro at the big box store.

I have a 90 and it has a carburetor with a round filter up top.
Adrian Angulo that jeep looks fuel injected they didn't start doing fuel injection on the six cylinder until 93 or 94 when they came out with the 4.0 before then it was the 4.2 carbureted
Which IAC manufacturer do y'all recommend for my 95 YJ?
Not sure of brand but the one I installed in this video is still perfect years later. Just don’t get the cheapest one. Get one that’s recommended by your parts pro at the big box store.
@@Archifx Got myself a new IAC, when to install it today and noticed that the electric connector wires are a bit severed. WTF??!! Any idea where I can purchase a new 95 jeep wrangler 4 Wires Electrical Connector Idle Air Control Valve.
Hardest part of changing the maps sensor was finding a 7mm wrench
✅
should have just taken out the throttle body. 4 10mm screws. clean idle passages and clean with carb cleaner with sensors out of coarse
How is life with a YJ?
I've read that it's good to flash the ecu after you do all that tune up to register the optimal parts. Anyone else know of this
Not needed
I would (and have). It's not a big deal
How much do you estimate all this would cost?
$400
