    I got the Pennsylvania Railroad class T1 Duplex for Christmas and my dad got it brand new. It works well

    Great work! Good to know it was just minor issues with the owner applied paint job on the plug. Not sure why people would paint the plugs. It is not that bad of an eye sore, and you will rarely if ever see the plug in action. I own 2 T1's and I never see the plug during operation.

      @trainman440  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea idk man, I guess he didnt realize the plug is meant for electrical contact? he deliberately painted just the plug and did a pretty good job of it too, he didnt get any black paint around the plug area

    What a nice surprise! I have a Paragon 2 PRR T1 as well. It's a good locomotive itself, but it doesn't go without saying it went through decoders like there was no tomorrow.

    • @trainman440
      @trainman440  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow, no way, how many decoders did it eat up? Haha, we'll see if this paragon 2 T1 fails on me, but if its like my other 7 paragon 2 locos, it should last a while! Cheers!

      @@trainman440 I think in total it ate up 5 or 6 decoders. Finally sent it to BLI where they basically got me a new engine lol. Good luck with yours. I haven't had issues with my other BLI locomotives

    Nice one I have a T1 4-4-4-4 Paragon 3 and paid £550 new I'm from the UK it's not as built it's the modern built great engine. I have one engine in for rapair a AC-4 4-8-8-2 with smoke unit issues.

    Impressive! I like the as built version. The rebuilt version looks kinda- (creepy?) To me.
    Also, I finally got a brass engine working. It was a modified sunset models Southern Pacific D1

    • @trainman440
      @trainman440  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see that, but for me the as built front with the lack of ladders and covered cylinders makes it looks like a chunky box in the front instead of a loco...the modernized one looks more industrial. tbh I dont really like either but I can sorta tolerate the modernized one!

    I joined a club and they recommended I install one of those Keep-alive Capacitors. However I heard that the T1 is a Nightmare to take apart and Im afraid of messing up my $600 Baby

    • @trainman440
      @trainman440  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You paid $600 for yours? holy shoot! I paid $200 for this one lol. I understand the fear of damaging your engine, and while I wont say its easy, I will say its probably the easiest ho articulated steam loco Ive taken apart before. Others (like bachmann's 2-6-6-2 or proto 2000 2-8-8-2) are much harder to take apart and also more delicate. Just take your time and work on a soft towel.

    Going to add dcc and sound to my steam locomotive as soon as I find one I like

  • @alabamarailfanningproducti139
    @alabamarailfanningproducti139 ปีที่แล้ว

    question. if a locomotive is not workking but the sound still works and when you idle up the throttle like if your moving it and it wont go, would it be the motor or the decoder?

    • @trainman440
      @trainman440  ปีที่แล้ว

      very likely its the motor or mechanism. If the engine in question is a broadway limited locomotive, you can narrow it down further:
      1. if there's still chuffing sounds when you turn up the throttle then its actually the gearing/driveshaft that's slipping
      2. if there isnt chuffing sounds when you turn up the throttle then it is a motor failure.
      Note that the above only applies to Broadway limited or MTH locomotives.
      Hope this helps.

      @@trainman440 You got a good deal. I have a Paragon 3 version and don't really know if I like it that much. I am seeing if it grows on me.

    • @trainman440
      @trainman440  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@parts323 I feel that, I hate paragon 3, the chuffs sound weird (especially on the L1s), the sound quality doesnt sound better, and honestly with the exception of the whistle recordering, I prefer the par 2 sound files. That, and also the whole paragon 3 high current draw 3 pole motor debacle that made BLI offer free repairs to many buyers.
      The T1 model itself also isnt very detailed. The front has no separate details, all the grab irons are molded on which is very disappointing. The boiler also has pipes which are all molded on. A bit ridiculous for $350. But even I cant deny the beauty this model has!
