How To DEEP CLEAN Your Engine Bay

  • In today video, Levi demonstrates his technique on how to properly clean an engine bay! It’s understandable that detailing an engine can be stressful, so we’re here to provide some guidance and product recommendations. Enjoy!
    This Toyota Sequoia is in dire need of an engine bay transformation! With plenty of filth from off-roading, Levi heads straight for the pressure washer. In situations like these, it’s always important to understand the engine bay layout and avoid getting sensitive areas wet.
    Levi utilized AWH from KCX (Alkali Wheel Cleaner) as his main APC and degreaser of choice. Paired with Magic Wheel Cleaner’s fallout removing abilities, this is a killer combo for dirt. The foam from the iK Foam Pro 2 allows the cleaner to dwell for long periods of time while things are agitated. Following a final rinse, the engine is transformed with KCX Motorplast (a TRC favorite).
    As always we hope you enjoy the content! Did you learn anything new in today’s video? If so, let us know down in the comments!

    Motor Plast is KCX's best product IMO. Not only it works fantastic, but it's amazing how long it keeps the engine clean.

    As a first gen Tundra owner, I approve 👍 I also use DI water to help prevent electrical issues and dry with a Master Blaster, then let it sit for a while before starting to make sure any water is dried up.

    Make sure you don't have any exposed aftermarket LED or HID harnesses. Some water got into the HID harness and it was shorting out due to moisture. Otherwise, covered the alternator and was fine.

    One more nice video as always! It would be great if you do a video of how to clean engine bays that are more complicated like mild hybrid vehicles with more electrical parts and an electric engine - generator among the thermal engine that it's more difficult to use pressure washer. Maybe show a way to clean engine bays too without pressure washer. Thanks in advance!

    Love the way MP looks and the fact that you don’t have to level it. How is the feel? Is it greasy? Or is it like PSS in that it gives a sheen but is dry to the touch? Thinking about dust attraction. Or rather avoiding it.

    • @theragcompany
      @theragcompany  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Motorplast has a dry to the touch feel once it has cured similar to PSS. Along with that there is no obvious dust attraction, most of us here at TRC use it on our own vehicles and have had 0 issues 👍

    There are a lot of electrical plugs in an engine bay, more so on newer vehicles. Do you worry about the high ph cleaners getting into the electrical plugs and starting corrosion?

    I have a powder coated valve cover and fuel rail, and a polished aluminum intake manifold; is Mp safe for those surfaces (and will it look nice?) or should I avoid those areas?

    • @theragcompany

      MP is safe on those surfaces, however we would recommend you avoid the polished aluminum if possible for the best look.

      Actually no,with Motorplast you can go a few sprays and that's it but better method is spray the whole thing down. Beacuse it seeps in connectors where water is and creates elastomeric bond wich makes them more waterproof than they were. It is a strange thing i know but that is why this product was in the making for almost 2.5years.

    • @justinschuyler

    I was going to watch the video but as soon as you said "Pressure Washer" I stopped because that is the WORST thing to do to an engine bay especially in a modern computerized vehicle. You will damage many components but usually the damage isn't noticed until they fail, then your mechanic is confused by a nice shiny part not working. There are many cleaning experts who clean engine bays and state strongly, NEVER pressure wash an engine bay!
