This is a great topic, with two spectacular coupes. You can’t go wrong with either (unless you live in Alaska…).

I choose m240i because its 4wd and its good in winter in Canada. M2 have more HP and cool looking. M2 were great for a warm weather and use only for chilling! M240i kinda use for everyday drive

To many people in the comment section upgraded to the M2 and got gapped hard. Nice video man 😂

      Why did they upgrade then?

OP - You are talking rubbish in this video.
Having owned both, and coming straight from a tuned M140i which had thousands spent on it, no matter how much you spend on an M lite, it will NEVER be a real M car.
    I know.
Yes in a straight line, a B58 with a decat, upgraded HPFP, and good map, will pull away from a standard OG M2 once on a roll (the M2 will still get off the line better, because of the diff and wider tyres).
The OG M2 is levels above in steering feel, cornering ability, ride, damping, looks, and sound.
The N55 engine isn't as tunable as the B58, but so what, it is fast enough standard, and can be tuned to about 520 bhp which is plenty.
You can have 900bhp in an M140i or M240i and it still won't see which way an OG M2 went on a proper road (you know, once with corners, where real drivers can have fun).

We’re all entitled to our opinions buddy!
That’s just my take on it based on what we know between the 2 cars & my experience with the M240i.
      Anyway thanks for watching!

@@ProvingAutos Maybe if you had spent the same amount of time in an M2 to give a fair comparison, your opinion would be more valid matey.

to test that we need to track both car with a pro driver, only then what u said make sense, because your feeling, there is no such of a true M car, any tuned properly car will be better than a badge dude!!! a real M car lol, is just a badge

@@carbonoxx I did not say an M140i with extensive suspension/chassis mods could not be as fast as a real M car did I.
      Read my comment again.
I said an M140i with a tuned engine no matter how much bhp it has, still can not corner like a standard M car, and that is a fact.
I know because I have owned both.
Of course you can modify any car to be a track weapon, that is absolutely obvious ffsk.
But by the time you have modified your M140i with chassis bracing, poly bushes, better dampers & springs, M3 front arms to gain camber, a Limited Slip Differential, wider wheels to fit wider tyres, etc etc, you will have spent more than the price difference between an M140i and an M2.
So unless you really love the M140i what is the point ?

I drove the original M2 and wasn’t that impressed with the pace, looks and handling yes but acceleration no, got an m240i let litchfield remap it and now it’s rapid, I also got a 47mpg average on a 200 mile drive to Devon from Surrey, still love it 5 years on

    • @DjNikGnashers

I had an M140i, spent thousands on it, upgrading many parts. It was running 455bhp/634nm.
In a straight line it was a missile.
Everywhere else it was a handful.
After 4 years, I had a moment in traction off mode, and left a dual carriageway backwards, writing the car off.
I bought a 2016 OG M2, and yes it's a bit slower in a straight line, but it isn't 'slow' ffs, and in fact it's quicker 0-60 than a remapped M140i or M240i, it's only when you upgrade the cat and the HPFP that you get enough power to actually make up the difference in lack of traction off the line to be quicker to 60.
Yes from a roll, in a straight line, a remapped B58 M140i/M240i will pull away from a standard OG M2.
Everywhere else, ie the fun bits of driving which actually require skill (you know, corners), the OG M2 absolutely fucking destroys any M140i or M240i unless it has had 15 grand spent on suspension, brakes, a diff, and tuning. And for less than 15 grand more than an M140i/M240i you can buy an OG M2.
The OG M2 steers better, brakes better, corners better, rides better, looks better, and will hold it's value better because it's a proper M car.
If you're a poser who can only race on straight roads once you're rolling, then the M240i is perfect.
If you're a real driver, then the OG M2 is levels ahead.

@@DjNikGnashersbut you never once mentioned mpg, insurance, servicing or smoothness…..
We all know an M2 is quicker round the bends, my wife and kids who are in the car 90% of the time don’t go racing.
If I want a countryside weapon I’d buy a proper sports car

    • @DjNikGnashers
      @DjNikGnashers ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ianmitchell9102 You don't buy an M car for mpg, lower insurance cost, lower servicing cost, or smoothness lol come on man that is a LAME effort.
If you want a cheaper more comfortable car, then you buy a cheaper more comfortable car, it's simple.
I'd buy a proper sports car if I could get one for the same money I paid for the M2, and which had decent rear seats like the M2, a quite massive boot like the M2, etc etc...
The M2 is one of the best handling M cars of all time, and as good as a Porsche Cayman on track, and many of it's other competitors.
Have you even driven one ?
      It doesn't sound like it.
You already forgot, I owned a modded and tuned M140i for 4 years, I know what the differences are, and I know what I'm talking about.
Seeing as I'm 54 yrs old, and worked in the motor trade for years, and not some dreamer, my opinions are based on valid facts & experience.

@@ianmitchell9102 Like I said my friend, if you want a fast (in a straight line), comfortable, more luxurious coupe, then the M240i is a fantastic car.
If you want a raw, performance focussed, supreme handling steering and cornering car, at the expense of comfort, the M2 is the right car.

I drove a BMW M140i ZF8 for 2 years and 25,000 miles. I moved to a LCI BMW M2 N55 DCT . M2 is faster, it has same torque and more PS. It is a maxed out factory tune. B58 on M140i has much more headroom. But its mated to a mediocre chassis and a really nice autobox but ita still no DCT.
On a straight road the M2 is not noticably faste, but it accelerates in a more traditional turbo car way. My M140i was lightning fast with the closer ratio gears allowing for seamless acceleration almost like an electric car. The M2 has more friction with more rubber thanks to wider tyres and much more downforce due to its aero, it is a draggier car. At high speeds this negates its HP advantage over M140i. So top end the M140i looks like its catching it at speeds over 100mph thats the only reason why.
M2 feels so much better around any corner, even around town not just twisty country roads. It is also a more comfortable daily as its passive suspension is amazing and the main reason I bought the car along with the looks and noise.
B58 is a missile of an engine but 140i's and 240i's are not in the same league. On tracks M2s are faster than cars packing over 500hp like Shelby 350s. So a tuned M140i doesnt stand a chance anywhere other than the dual carriageway. A M sport 116i can have same suspension and brakes as an M140i, the M2 has M3/M4 suspension, arms, brakes and dif, it is a lot stiffer and has much more potential. Thats what costs the extra £££ over Mlites not the engine.

Stop calling it an M240i! its not an M series car so it doesn’t deserve the M before its name. It’s simply a 240i (M-Sport). M models and M-Sport models are absolutely not the same thing.
This is as ridiculous as calling an M2, an M2i 🤣
