Which one you buying? M140i or M240i?

I’d go for the M240i. Each to their own!

Out of those two I would go for the M140i. Not a fan of the M240i but do like the M2 because it suits the coupe shape and looks that bit more aggressive.
M240i I like the shape more than the 1 series but if I was picking a bmw (which i am next year) then I’ll get a 640 or 650.
As a 240 owner I love how it's not aggressive in looks but is a powerhouse 😁
2 series platform outperforms 1 series in all aspect, far more capable chassis. B58 in a 2 series is a dream come true!
Unless you're buying an M2C then you get the 240. I have a 240 and wouldn't buy an original M2 over it. The 240 is better for daily driving/commuting and easier on the wallet in terms of maintenance and insurance - with a simple stage 1 remap it'll easily outperform an M2 in terms if speed. Obviously if you really want M handling characteristics from factory, get the M2 but for me the 240 is the sweet spot, mainly due to the B58.
With Bird suspension is a complete car 👍
Can’t deny the engine is decent but it will never have the road presence of an M2

Recently sold my M240. Had a 100 Cell sports cat, Remus exhaust and remap and loved it. Miss it actually.

Had a 135i manual at the same time I had my F80 M3 Comp both 66 plates brand new.
I'd often take the 135 out because it was more fun on the roads and £40k cheaper I love them.

I had a m240i stage 1 and it was absolutely insane best car I have owned yet would have one back in a heartbeat great value for money and just such fun to drive.
Took it out on many days out with Rampage Rally and was just such a joy to drive🙌👌
Hopefully will have one back next year 🤞 never fun when you have to sell your car to buy a new house 🙄🤦♂️ but definitely not a pointless car at all 👌

I would take a 240i over a 140i but I would have to change the standard wheels and I wouldn't have grey on red myself.

I went from a 230i to an M240i, both manual. I love the 2er, it’s like a new old 3 series and has that classic small saloon look. Never been in a m140i but from what I’ve read the 2 series is that little bit sharper to drive because it’s stiffer, particularly in the rear as the 2 has a solid structure where the hatch would be on the 1. Wheelbase between the 2 cars is identical, the longer body of the 2 is purely down to the elongated rear deck/boot section. The chassis is fundamentally a 3 door 1 series with some adjustments to the spring rates as is is slightly stiffer.
I’ve put an LSD in mine and I’ve increased the front and rear tracks with lower offset wheels so now it’s a proper little performance car. The diff cleans up that uncertain feeling you get from the rear axle and the car feels like it’s on rails for the most part even in the rain. When the rear steps out in the dry it is very smooth and quite easy to correct, more snappy in the wet but as long as you know what to do it’s good fun. The wheels really helped out the looks also. They are actually lighter than the m140i like for like also. Interesting to hear your thoughts on it though.
My previous car was a M235i and I loved it ... spent thousands on it in lockdown then before I could get a rear diff it was written off by someone who jumped a red light. Gutted I never got a chance to try with a diff, it was tuned and on springs but still felt really floaty at the rear

@@hjms7977 wouldn't surprise me if you got more than you paid due to crazy used prices
@@hjms7977 that is a real shame, for me the diff solved that floaty behaviour, the rear end grips as power goes to the outside wheel and it loads up more consistently so you know exactly when it’s gonna break away into a slide. It actually felt like I had a whole new rear end, completely connected to whatever I do with my right foot. Still doesn’t like high frequency bumps though.
Upgraded turbo (bigboost) RWD M240’s are absolute cheat codes now. I believe one just ran sub 5 60-130 fairly basically modded. The rear are doing 5.3-5.5 with ease.

I bought my M240 for three reasons - 1. The B58, 2. It reminded me of my old E46, and 3. Its'a proper q-car compared to the M2 which is way too shouty for me, at my age!! 😂

A friend of mine writes for car magazines and did an article on why you should not run modern cars low on fuel due to the high pressure of the fuel pumps and the injectors ending up damaged.

Nothing beats this car at its price point.With a stage 2,lsd and coilovers you've got the perfect coupe tbh.The m2 is a superior car,but its nowhere near as practical especially with that dct box.A novice wouldn't notice so much of a difference in shifting speeds between the dct and zf.The zf is probably as quick as the dct with the xhp flash
btw,calvin sport mode completely cuts the traction when there isn't any heat in the tyres.It's an annoying mode tbh,but comfort traction(press the traction button once) allows way more slip on the rear,gearshifts are faster and throttle response is comforty,but still gets moving.

Since The window trim is blacked out, I think it's a must to get some blacked out kidney grills. Just that alone with totally transform the car.
I’d say the 240i because it’s more like an old 3 series - reminds me of the E36. Both good cars though, the B58 is a beast.
My thoughts as well mate. Also it’s got the same figures as the e46 m3 or there abouts!
Nice cars along with the 140i, but if you can stretch or wait until you can get into a M2 you won't regret it
Drive a m240i x drive 2018 , how it compares to the m2 comp , very different vehicles but a m240i at nearly 40k with most comps going for 65-70k i believe the m240i x drive mounted with some mps4s and hood 18’ square setup it’s the best bang for buck

Also worth knowing that the m240i comes from factory with an underbody brace and the m140i doesn't, not sure why BMW did that. As a m140i owner myself, the underbody brace is not expensive and when I did put it on I really noticed the difference.
M140 comes with an underbody brace stock on 3 door

Every time I park my M2 next to a 240 I always think it looks so much more aggressive and special and confirms I made the right choice. Many people can afford a 240 and not an m2 so are more common on the road. Yes the b58 is better before you all come at me but my m2 is stage 2 running useable power and on everyday roads is more than enough it’s the full package looks, sound, handling and Iv daily driven it for 3 and a half years and love it. Also Iv done many visual mods to enhance its already aggressive appearance.
Stage 2 bmw 140i or 240i beats the m2 on a straight the b58 is different gravy but m2 is better handling looking and track car

M2 are definitely more common than m240, I’ve seen 5 m2 before 1 240. M240 as a daily and if you want a solid buy of a track car with more power potential skip the m2 and get a m2c.

@@patrickheart9390 a couple of problems with the c63, the age at that point, it’s getting a bit old, it’s not faster, and they drink fuel like there’s no tomorrow😂 yeah they do sound good, but if you daily an m240, you’d easily get 30+mpg around town, you won’t even get 15 out of the c63😩 but they do sound good sooo🤷🏼♂️😂
What have you done to get to stage 2 just brought a 235i myself and wondering what to get
@@duncann9152 hi I wouldn't bother doing a stage 2 . It's not worth it and will cause mega issues . Stage 1 ya cool but after that I'd change cars. I real job involves major work and anyone who claims to do it for anything reasonable will destroy it . But that's just my advice by all means check it out

Had a 135i and then a 240i bought the coupe for its looks.
I have an M235i with M Performace kit and its an absolute dream. I think it sounds nicer than the M240i nut appreciate its not quite as quick. If I could afford an M2 I would go for one but sadly out of my price range.
235 is fwd right? 240 is based on m2 rwd

One thing that shocked me is no LSD. I had an IS200 sport i paid 2k for 15 years ago and that had an LSD with over half the power of the M240i

I have a stage 2 M140i, I’ll be honest I preferred it stage 1. It’s too fast for the roads. Get on it from any speed and 5 seconds later it’s licence loosing territory. It’s fun to upset exotica with a 4 year old 1 series, but the handling is quite vague even with my LSD and usual upgrades.
What I hate most about the M140 is the way every chav in the world wants to race you. Revving up next to you, cutting in and booting off to try to goad you. I’d rather an M240 stage 1 where people tend to take less notice of you. I’d love an M2C for the handling but think it would get the same amount of boy racer attention as the M140.

Alright calvin . I am interested in m3 convertible you have . I have 2 cars I want to trade in towards it . I have a vw bora tdi st pd in reflex silver . stage 1 revo remap . Turbotechnics pd 150 hybrid turbo. Darkside development side mount intercooler hardpipe kit just under 200bhp and 429 nm i have print out of power run . I am one of a few bora s in UK with this power from stage one and having Turbotechnics turbo makes it that much better . Rev limiter nearly 5500 rpm . R32 steering wheel . Mk 4 recaro s . Anniversary side skirts . V6 valance front and rear spliters all colour coded . 18 inch dotz wheels smoked chrome fully refurbished. H and r cup kit 35 mm . Brembo 170 bhp drilled and vented front discs and ebc red stuff at front rear brembo discs 170 bhp discs ebc red stuff pads. Poly bushes all round . And I have a e46 325i auto sport with the m pack on the face lift model in black shaphire black leather no rust . Airbag recall completed by bmw and a complete health check which she breezed through. My car was taken with keys with a ghost on it, I got it back thanks to the tracker than worked out how they did it, it wasn't too hard.
How what happened thought you can't take it with ghost on it
I almost bought a M240i but went for the M140i 5dr instead mainly for the added practicality.
The coupe does ride slightly better though, it's less harsh at the rear due to more weight and structure but the trade-off, you hear less exhaust note.
Not looking forward to selling my 140i in a couple of months ☹️

I had a 135i auto, Mrs had a 235i manual. The 135 felt night and day quicker.

Nah b58 is too beast of an engine compared to an m2 n55. Faster, cheaper, lighter. But if its an m2 comp thats a diff story.

Literally the issue I have at the moment, deciding between m140i vs m240i. I do think the tyres have let you down a bit. I have always seen people running Michelin ps4s on these and they perform really well.
Ps4s dont exist with 18. Just ps4. I got an m140 and tbh they're both good motors. Looks and practicality should be the thing to consider as theyre both similar.
I run PS4 on my Volvo V70 18’’ r design wheels, it’s no performance car by any means but I can still chuck it about and speed in it knowing it will hold the road in the corners.

M140 & M240 is basically the same car:
- M140 more practical and for those who prefer the understated looks
- M240 for those that do not care about practicality and and prefer the sedan/coupe looks

Personally, I'd purchase the m235i as you can get a decent one (now) for less than 12k with low miles, Vs an m240i with similar miles for 20k.
I wish this was true, more like 17k unless you want a (cat) car
The B58 is so much more tuneable (and reliable) - the M240 is the only way to go

@@relentlesspursuit6894 Perhaps. If someone had 10-15k budget and wanted a "tuneable' car they would eventually end up with a fiesta st180. I won't be turning the m235i, what's the point lol. The m240i may be more reliable vs the m235i but most expensive repair would probably be a new gearbox and reason why I went with an m235i Vs m240i is I could buy a new gearbox for £1k Vs £2.5-3k.

I absolutely hate with a passion those nasty flat bench rear seats that manufacturers having been using for the past few years for no other reason than being cheap! Shame on BMW, MB & every other luxury make who have had the front to put them in the back of their coupes and cabriolets! They look shite and ruin the car

I bought an m240i solely for the xdrive. It is the best fastest AWD car on the market for less than $50k. I test drove a bunch of cars and this one felt way quicker around town CLA 45 amg, c63 amg, c43 amg, Maserati sq4, m550i, etc.
In the UK there is no option to get an xDrive M240i though

Pointless??? Obviously fuckin not. Not everyone has 30-40k for an m2 or better. Plus you can pick up a decent low milage 240 or 140 for 21-22k.....spend 1k on it an you've got a 450bhp with 650nm beast😂.... find me another car for that price with them numbers🤔
