I'm no expert & never completed this challenge but do remember the original Top gear episode. It does seem with more traffic, multiple speed cameras & more active policing, can it really be achieved without some big risks? Hat's off to those that attempt this, but it just seems unachievable for most nowadays.

From near Pontefract in West Yorks to Newquay 353 miles in a Renult Lanuga 2.0 RTi years ago 3h 50 mins. Year around 2004 set off 7:30pm was on my own visiting friends in Newquay and couldn't be arsed to drive normally. Try doing that on today's roads.

Not to put a downer on an epic drive, but the most Westerly point you can get to by car in the UK is Ardnamurchan Lighthouse in Scotland, which is about 12 and a half hours from Ness Point. Could be worth a trip on a spring or autumn equinox where night and day are nearly equal.

Already looking forward to 2025. I was successful the first 2 attempts, 25 minutes late on the 3rd time, and a mere 20 seconds short this year. Love the challenge, and the camaraderie has made this a very special event.

Unlucky, we also tried the trip this year as well and missed sunrise by 20 mins.. we were in the two jag Xk's the roadworks killed us, will hopefully attempt it again next though.

I choose m240i because its 4wd and its good in winter in Canada. M2 have more HP and cool looking. M2 were great for a warm weather and use only for chilling! M240i kinda use for everyday drive

I own an almost identical car with factory option Ricaro seats. Superb drive with 69k on the clock, but due to my age I’m being pressured to get rid.

Great cars, I have an estate version, 113 km, fully original car. It can can be quick, it just needs to build up some momentum, then it is on song. I own too many German cars 8, and of course and Alfa, and two Fiat 20vt Coupe's. I always feel like I am having the time of my life with my cars, and I watch and see if anyone cares, ah that would be a big NO. Still I watch others cars and love to see them out and about, loved this ride with you too, thanks.

Stop calling it an M240i! its not an M series car so it doesn’t deserve the M before its name. It’s simply a 240i (M-Sport). M models and M-Sport models are absolutely not the same thing. This is as ridiculous as calling an M2, an M2i 🤣

Do you think it’s because of the GPF delete, since it’s illegal, maybe that caused your insurance to go up? I know my M140i has gone up but I think that’s because of just genuine increased premiums.

I’m looking to get one of these in July when my insurance renews. I think they look so good. One thing I’m definitely going to do is paint the lower strip on the grille to black to give it the wide mouth look. Looking forward to see more videos on this!

I drove a BMW M140i ZF8 for 2 years and 25,000 miles. I moved to a LCI BMW M2 N55 DCT . M2 is faster, it has same torque and more PS. It is a maxed out factory tune. B58 on M140i has much more headroom. But its mated to a mediocre chassis and a really nice autobox but ita still no DCT. On a straight road the M2 is not noticably faste, but it accelerates in a more traditional turbo car way. My M140i was lightning fast with the closer ratio gears allowing for seamless acceleration almost like an electric car. The M2 has more friction with more rubber thanks to wider tyres and much more downforce due to its aero, it is a draggier car. At high speeds this negates its HP advantage over M140i. So top end the M140i looks like its catching it at speeds over 100mph thats the only reason why. M2 feels so much better around any corner, even around town not just twisty country roads. It is also a more comfortable daily as its passive suspension is amazing and the main reason I bought the car along with the looks and noise. B58 is a missile of an engine but 140i's and 240i's are not in the same league. On tracks M2s are faster than cars packing over 500hp like Shelby 350s. So a tuned M140i doesnt stand a chance anywhere other than the dual carriageway. A M sport 116i can have same suspension and brakes as an M140i, the M2 has M3/M4 suspension, arms, brakes and dif, it is a lot stiffer and has much more potential. Thats what costs the extra £££ over Mlites not the engine.

After 4 years in an M140i, with it's amazing B58 engine (tuned to 455bhp/634nm), and the ZF8, I did look at an M240i. I decided to pay a bit more and get a low mileage, 1 owner from new, OG M2. Wow, I cannot stress how different the OG M2 is, to an M Lite. The steering feel, the damping, the cornering, the sound, on another level, they are so raw and every drive feels like a special occasion. The M140i/M240i are the better daily driver of course, the ZF8 is so smooth when you're just cruising. The DCT in my M2 is a bit clunky and jerky around town, but it is very very good when you are 'on it'. The M140i/M240i/M340i/etc are not M cars, and once you have driven a real M car, you can tell the difference immediately. The M2 even has most of the sound deadening removed, so you can hear all of the mechanical noises, completely different driving experience. There is none of the wobbly rear end you get with M Lites. M2 feels planted, settled, and just amazing.

Know how you feel mate, I got shafted by renewals too but had to take it on the chin. Bought my 240 in March, insurance was 750, renewal in May and it ended up being 2200!
