They don't make them like they used to. Frank Sinatra was such a smooth crooner. This is before auto tuning. Artists had to be really able to sing. And the lyrics were clean, romantic & really meant something. He has a huge library of great songs. Some of my favorites are "Fly Me To The Moon", "New York, New York", "Strangers In The Night", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "That's Life", "My Kind Of Town", "Summer Wind" etc. And he did a duet with his daughter Nancy called "Something Stupid" in 1967.
Sinatra's career spanned over six decades. Crooner, movie star, no one was more popular until Elvis. Listen to FLY ME TO THE MOON, THE BEST IS YET TO COME, LUCK BE A LADY, so many great songs. Sinatra's style, singing and phrasing like an instrument, changed the way people sang. He even had the first martial arts fight scene in western cinema, in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.
Sinatra was the comeback kid, his life was not all smooth sailing. His career was on the skids in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Suicide attempts, vocal cord damage, and a tumultuous marriage all played out in the public eye. He had to beg for the role in the movie From Here to Eternity, which ended up winning him an academy award in 1953.
Oh Yes!!! Chairman of the Board! Frank is top shelf! I will never get tired of listening to his jazz singing. His enunciation was unparalleled. His feel for the rhythm and beat, as he moved around it, was genius. Dean Martin and Bobby Darrin could approach the technique, but Frank brought in a different level of drama and emotion. That's why Frank was the best. Young At Heart has always been my lifetime mantra from Frank. Sam. He has a Christmas album! (Actually, more than one) Next Christmas you can swoon to Frank's versions of classics 😊
Im not trying to come off as rude, but I couldn't help chuckling when you said, "I wasn't expecting Frank to say 'ate it up and spit it out'"... This dude was hard. It reminds me a little of seeing people talk all gently and carefully to an old war veteran. Like, this guy was a badass, that badass is still in there. Great reaction to a life anthem. Hits different already and I'm only 47. Sure it's gonna hit even harder when I "face the final curtain".
"My Way" is a song popularized in 1969 by Frank Sinatra set to the music of the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed by Jacques Revaux with lyrics by Gilles Thibaut and Claude François and first performed in 1967 by Claude François. The English lyrics of the song were written by Paul Anka and are unrelated to the original French song.
When i was able to walk (w/o a walker), I used to go on several miles walks around the Metroparks Valley in Cleveland several times a week, and I always walked to Sinatra. Even though my era is more Classic Rock, there's something peaceful I found walking in nature to the dulcet tones of The Chairman of the Board. There doesn't have to be a hard or heavy beat (for me) to keep time. It was more the state of mind and enjoying my time alone and enjoying the beautiful scenery.
I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra. He was one of my mom's favorite singers. He has a huge catalog of songs. Some of my favorites are "That's Life", "Strangers in the Night", "It Was a Very Good Year", "Summer Wind", "New York, New York", and "My Kind of Town (Chicago Is). You should also check out two more members of the Rat Pack - Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. Songs for Dean Martin are "That's Amore", "Volare", "Sway", "Everybody Loves Somebody", and "Baby, It's Cold Outside". Songs for Sammy Davis Jr. are "I Gotta Be Me", "What Kind of Fool Am I", "Mr Bojangles", and "The Candy Man".
I can't think of any recording artist who had as long a career as Francis had: 5 decades of everything from big ballads to drinking songs to jazz/swing to the blues to grand pop statements such as "My Way". I recommend my favorite FS songs for future consideration: "Luck Be A Lady" (1963) and, if you are interested in Frank's romantic side, "Just The Way You Look Tonight" (1964) and "Witchcraft" (1957) A+
We saw Frank in the early eighties with the Buddy Rich Orchestra. Way past his prime there were sections of the concert he was fabulous. This song was one of them. Iconic.
Mr. Sinatra's voice will never be matched. So smooth and clear. Mr. Sinatra was also a good actor. He was a very special and if you really need to relax and enjoy, Mr. Sinatra would be one to put on. It would be nice to see what some of the really young feel about him.
Absolutely one of the best ever, Frank was an inspiration even to me at a young age and I will never turn down a song sung by Frank. While there are some songs that are certainly better than others which are equally as good, the album that this video has in the background is a good enough start in itself, just pick one of any of them they are all too good and I truly could not choose just one.
I played this song to my father not minutes before he passed away, he really loved it and I feel like every single person on this earth can hear this song and interpret it in a way that resonates with them
Great review and reaction. You need to check out the Dean Martin Roast's===Frank was the Man of the Hour and it was amazing to see celeb's taking shots at Frank. Very funny and a great watch! Cheers!
Frank was a tough street macho guy. He was the leader of the Rat-Pack and was known as the Chairman of the board! He also was a teen idol when he began for Americas greatest generation!
Sinatra was thinking of retiring and asked Paul Anka (an accomplished performer/writer/composer even at the age of 26) to write him a retirement song in 1967. Anka had heard this song in France and bought the rights to it. At Sinatra's request he wrote My Way to the melody in one night, called Sinatra and played the song on the phone. One week later Sinatra recorded the gold standard version of this song in one take, and the rest, as they say, is history. Suggested for you to react to What are you doing the rest of your life, Summer Wind, That's Life, How do you keep the music playing, It had to be you.
If you get a chance please check out Frank Sinatra “It was a very good year”! The live performance was actually the studio version being filmed in front of a hand full of people and was absolutely incredible! Cheers, God Bless you guys!
If you like Crooners try Andy Williams "Moon River" from the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's or Nat King Cole "Unforgettable" or Smile released in 1950s originally written by two men with Charlie Chaplin for a silent film a favorite. Thanks. and Merry Christmas
My father LOVED Sinatra. He was Silent Gen and I'm Gen X. I picked it up and kept it going. This is a song about living life on your terms. Following your own path and dealing with the consequences of those choices. This one hits me so hard because it makes me feel closer to my dad but also proud of myself for doing my own thing. If you like this, check out Luck be A Lady, I've Got You Under My Skin and The Summer Wind.
Sinatra is one of the few pop culture figures that appeals to any generation. Our grandparents loved his music, our parents loved his music, and current generations love it too. We can all relate to the lyrics as they will never be dated. That’s what a true entertainment legend is!
And by the way, In BonJovis song, "Its My Life" he quotes Frank with the lyric " As Frankis says,I did it my way". He and Richie Sambora, Johns partner guitarist, fought him over quoting it, saying, " No one will get it" ,but John said, it stays in. So when you get to covering my favorite Bonjovi song, you will be in " the know".
My absolute favorite song of Sinatra's..I grew up listening to the rat pack. My Dad had a voice very similar to Sinatra. The favorite part of this song for me is "to think, I did all that"......because I think of my life and if I thought of the things I have done in my life, I'm amazed...thanks for the reaction!
It's a classic Sinatra song. Wikipedia says he recorded it in one take. I'd also recommend the song New York, New York, which became closely associated with Sinatra, although he wasn't the first to sing it.

Pleased for MY WAY written by Paul Anka and having written it he knew it had to be Frank's song. My argument in favor of Sinatra being the greatest singer (non-opera) is IT WAS A VERY GOOD YEAR. The way he enunciates, he performs the song. He was a great actor and that provided him the ability to perform lyrics and convey the mood. Interesting as an actor and a singer he felt fresh only with one or two takes. Show up, do the job - acting or singing - and leave.
very deep rabbit hole with Frank Sinatra (RIP). Many consider to be the best male singer of all time. His smooth delivery, good range, tone/breath/voice control (clear even in louder volumes), are unparalleled. Super showman. So very many great songs, difficult to list them all so you need to do some research into this music icon and true legend. This song is arguably considered his best. Also a pretty good actor with many movie appearances. And he was known, among inner circles, of having a very big and kind heart. He made over 2,000 recordings so you have some catching up to do. Live performances are tremendous. The Rat Pack stuff is gold! Thanks for sharing your reaction to this entertainment legend.
You should react to the original version, "Comme d'habitude" from French male singer Claude François. Sinatra's song is an outcome song, but François' song is a break-up song. You can find it in his official channel with English subtitles.
Don't know if anyone mentioned it but in the Bon JOVI song, Its My Life, there is a line that says: like Frankie said, I did it my way. This song is where that came from

I like this recording, it ends softly instead of the big noisy finish, much more effective. My dad used to sing this around house, the song makes me miss him terribly. Esp on Christmas Eve. Frank's popularity is unmatched and there will never be another one like him
I'm for Frank Sinatra, but.....Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan...ahem.
@@giuliogrifi7739Beatles beat'em all... At least in terms of sold records.
@@manofconstantsorrow Ok, Beatles are n° 1 in popularity and sales.....that's well established, but I guess we were talking about single performers.

@manofconstantsorrow The Beatles are a group where as MJ, Frank and Elvis got to where they were as individual artists
"To say the words he truly feels, and not the words of one who kneels". Great line.

And he had a perfect english pronunciation, too.
This song is a TESTAMENT of LIFE.
There is no other voice like his in the history of singing

I'm 26, and Frank and Dean Martin are staples for my commute. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Incredible song. Love Frank! It Was a Very Good Year is another amazing hit by him, but so many to choose from.
I love that song!!! It's probably my favorite of his.
Early Sinatra is so damn good, back with the big band era, Take a look at "I won't dance" fabulous
The two most exciting words in entertainment "Frank Sinatra".
Frank didn’t have a lot of unnecessary noise in his music like we have today.
Frank's music with Love by young and old even today
Speaking of a life lived Frank had to have one of the most unique.
The voice. Chairman of the board. He really did it his way.
Sinatra, "New York New York" really builds the power of his vocals.

Frank called Paul Anka and asked him to write a signature song for him. A lot of pressure according to Paul to come up with a song worthy of Frank S.
Also, song was written by Paul Anka (A Canadian) who was also a teen idol and magnificent song writer, check him out.

This is also a cover of the original. Yes Elvis covered it. Sinatra stated after hearing Elvis's cover that the song was tailor made for Elvis's voice
Thanks for reacting to Mr Sinatra. He’s the best ever.
The man's voice is timeless. 👍🏽
The original song was French, "Comme D'Habitude". Paul Anka wrote the English lyrics for Frank.
This one and That’s Life are 2 of my Frank favorites, I grew up listening to my dad playing his records.

One Take Frank. Even in his movies, he usually did his scene in one take. Always got it the way he wanted it the first time.

Paul Anka just wrote English lyrics too a French song called Comme d’habitude
No this recording was out in 1967.

Salute Mr Sinatra 🥃🥲

Finally the chairman of the board is here
Frank and the orchestra would drop the needle on a lacquer disk and cut a whole side of an album in one flawless take.
Another great song and one of my favourites Bobby Darin, Mack the Knife.
Paul Anka wrote this song and was going to record it himself, but Frank wanted it and Paul said you don't refuse Frank. History!
