2:28 Steve Perry - I recommend you an awesome rabbit hole of this vocalist and his band Journey. Magical voice. Also, fun fact - the guy who has this voice that caught your attention is Bruce Springsteen and he has a great voice, but this raspiness was not normal for him, he had just ended his long tour and his voice was pretty much strained at this point, he was even worried he could not make it.
The mystery man is Bruce Springsteen aka "The Boss." I recommend his official "Born to Run" video as way to introduce yourself to his music and performance charisma.
Fun fact: this song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie (both singers originally from different Motown Records "boy bands"), and it won them a Grammy Award for "Song of the Year" in 1986. Please react to more MJ songs and music videos.
I grew up in this era. The world was a much better place at the time. We were more unified, happier, kinder, and caring. There was innocence. We wanted to help others as well as our own. It was beautiful times, and I feel blessed to have lived through those magical times. ❤
yes and no, it was at the height of the cold war between USA and the Soviet Union, with threats of nuclear missiles launched everyday. And All countries of eastern Europe were under communist dictatorships, great time for USA, but not ALL the world.
As an Aussie bloke in his 40s who loved this song as kid, yours tears really hit me and put into perspective the level of division the younger generations have had to live through. It's truly wrong and a failure on our part.
Amen. I was 15 when this came out. I had spent years watching Mtv. It really felt like the platform came of age with this and it's British counterpart. I'll forever be grateful for Bob Geldof for starting all this.
IKR i was about 12 when it came out. I got my single at Kmart 😂 i love watching reactions and there’s always new ones popping up. It’s fun watching people to react to a song recorded before most creators on this app were even born…even before their parents were born. It’s cool to see who they recognize. Of course most everyone knows Michael but thats about it for many.
Of all the amazing things about this recording I can't imagine making a record and having Smokey Robinson, Bette Midler, Harry Belafonte , the Pointer sisters and most of the Jackson family in the studio and saying you guys can just hang out in the background in the chorus.
That’s funny. Yeah, I remember watching this back when it first came out and was trying to figure out what went down that night. They were all amazing even back then.
Heartfelt reaction for sure. Canada also had a charity single back then called "Tears Are Not Enough". The recording artists were called "Northern Lights"
I have not seen that video in years and I wanted to thank you. When, this song and Band Aid was released it was similar to Woodstock. As you so eloquently said, in our day and time are so in desperate need of love & unity right on!
I was 10 when this was released. What I remember most about that time was that most people still had hope in humanity. Maybe it was because I was a child at the time, but at a sneeze away from my 50th birthday now, it feels like the magic and the humanity captured in this video are gone. I cry every time i hear it.
Born in 81 here, and while I was still a toddler when this song came out, I remember hearing it a lot and when I finally did get to see this music video in the 90s (I was watching VH1 back then), I kept pointing out the artists, just a few I didn't fully recognize (it was mostly in the ensemble section). I did see Bette Middler in the crowd and thought, "Why didn't she get a line?" lol.
There was a moment in 1985 where every radio station played this song at the same time same hour. Including MTV. United Supporters for Africa (U S.A. for Africa)
I've known this song forever and I cry every time I watch the video. There's really only MJ who can bring together so many legends for a noble cause. I miss him, I miss them all.
Since you didn't recognize Bruce Springsteen. I suggest you try a live performance of either "Jungleland," "Thunder Road," or "Born to Run." Bruce "The Boss" earned that nickname for a reason. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones. 😇🎅🎄🤶🥂🌹
Bruce Springsteen and his lead guitarist, Little Steven formed a group of mostly rap artists to make a protest song about performers not playing at the Sun City Resort in South Africa during Apartheid. Under the name Artists Against Apartheid, they created the song Sun City, which brought a lot of attention to the cause. Stacey should check that out.
I said it before and I will say it again the 80s was the greatest decade of music ever imo… preferably rock, but you have things like this that unfortunately we will never see and you’re right. Stacy the world could use something like this today always enjoy your reactions. Have a great day and a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
This was such an amazing colab, and incredible how they did it after a Music Award Show. Netflix did a great documentary on this. Amazing how they kept it all under wraps. No way they could ever do that in today’s world.
I first heard this song when I was a teenager. Now, at 54, I still love this song! The melody, the lyrics, the singers and of course the philanthropic spirit it conveys... Absolutely lovely and timeless. This was a benefit single for victims of famine in Africa. It raised over $60 Million, which was distributed to Ethiopia, Sudan, and other impoverished countries. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song, and Quincy Jones produced it. This talented trio was perfect for the job: Quincy Jones was the hottest producer around, and his Rolodex (what would now be a contact list) was filled with the biggest names in music. This all-star charity single was modeled on Band Aid, the British group Bob Geldof put together the year before to record "Do They Know It's Christmas?." Band Aid, which included Bono, Phil Collins, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Sting, served as a template, showing how a disparate group of famous artists could come together in one day to record a song. This was recorded at A&M Studios in Los Angeles on January 28, 1985, the night of the American Music Awards, which was held at the nearby Shrine Auditorium. Since the artists were all in town for the awards, it was much easier to get them together to record the single.
And they were all there. Nothing was recorded separately. They were the whole day long in this project. They were really involved. No autotune, pure talent.
@@patcurrie9888 not true. Mj wrote most of the song and lionel was only credited because they were friends. There is even the MJ solo demo version on TH-cam
im 64, this song gives me chills every single time i hear it. so much talent that came together for a good cause...... amazing...... great reaction, thank you..................
I just recently heard Lionel Richie say in the Awards Chatter Podcast that they recorded the whole track between 1am and 5am. They literally met in the middle of the night and were done before morning light. Absolutely astonishing.
I was in 4th grade in the year 2005 when my music teacher showed our class this song/video. I'll never forget that day. I'll always be thankful for our teacher showing this to us. I didn't get it back then, but when I became an adult I began to understand. Nowadays I can't hear this song without getting emotional. It's just so powerful even decades later.
I was waiting for this reaction, and to be honest I was shocked when you said, "Who is this man?" for Bruce Springsteen xD America showed us who they are when it comes to music, this is indeed a legendary song by all means! Also, I'm happy because pop/rock singers from my country back in the time of ex-Yugoslavia created a song based on the USA version, as some kind of support, the song is called "Yu Rock Mission - A Million Years", different lyrics but the whole concept is very similar. Anyway... I love your videos, peace! ❤
hello Stacy, Merry Christmas... I love your reactions so much! You put so much of your soul into it. You often have 40% song and 60% reactions that shows how deep you are in it. Thank you for your emotions.
Kenny Rogers was one of the first to say he’d do it. After that people started saying yes to it, and when Bob Dylan came on everyone wanted to be there.
@ there’s a whole story behind Prince not doing it, he wanted to change the song, when Quincy said he couldn’t he said he would just play guitar for it, and again Quincy said he had to be part of the ensemble like everyone else, Prince said no.
One thing that was amazing to me was many of the familiar faces in the chorus who didn't get solos. Lindsey Buckingham, Harry Belafonte, Bette Midler, Janet Jackson. They all put their egos in check for a day and made a beautiful piece of music!
3:42, that incredible musician is Bruce Springsteen. We would love a reaction to one of his songs! Keep it up Stacey, the videos are super fun and energetic!
Merry Christmas Stacey and thank you. I actually remember the day this came out. Watching it in the bar restaurant i lived above. All of the folks who were regulars as we watched this amazing song!!
10 of the singers have passed away. Cindy Lauper was the youngest singer and she is now 71. The recording session was scheduled to follow the American Music Awards when all these artist would be in LA and went all night. There was a sign outside that read "Please check your ego at the door"
Stacey, I get to tears every time I hear that song. When it released it sent chills and moved me so deep. Triggered many tears that first listening. I am happy you got to hear it. This song should be a mantra for all!
We lost a musical giant in the industry, Quincy Jones, just last month. He produced this song, AND some of the biggest albums in history. Without him, music wouldn’t be the same.
We’ve lost a lot of good talent and hasn’t been any good music past 20 years and it’s sad. The music sucks past 20 years. There’s no heart and soul in music past 20 years. It needs to change.
I remember this like it was yesterday. I am 56 and a senior when this came out. The song is magical, the story about how it came into being was magical - surely all the stars aligned to get all those guys together in a studio in one night and come up with this.... loads of musical genius here all conducted and arrange beautifully by Quincy. We will never see this type of thing again.
Forty years later and this still moves me. Every time when Ray Charles comes in, tears roll down my cheeks. Quite a few of these artists are no longer with us, and I really miss them.
There is SO MUCH music you have to react to. Each one of these performers were the BEST from this era and their music is the BEST! You are really in for so many treats as you go through this journey!! Keep looking at all the different styles as you react going forward!
Canada's contribution to the Ethiopian Famine Relief Fund was written and put together by David Foster and Bryan Adams with an iconic and star-studded line-up of Canadian singers and musicians that even a few Americans may recognize and might have heard of before...lol it's called Tears Are Not Enough by The Northern Lights, with the music video and the full documentary of The Making of Tears Are Not Enough are available here on YT! Enjoy! Shawn, here in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, Canada!
3:47. Who is he? That is The Boss. Bruce Springsteen. Kinda blows my mind that people do not instantly recognize all the people in this video, they were absolute TITANS in the industry. But its 100% understandable when i remember that most reactors did not grow up in the 70s and 80s like i did, lol
Yep. Everything we know we've had to learn through some means. Gotta allow others to learn too! I'm sure my dad also rolled his eyes when I didn't recognise Bing Crosby at first sight... 😀
Wikipedia: ''USA for Africa was created based on an idea by Harry Belafonte to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia by putting together a band with mainly black artists. The idea was developed by producer Ken Kragen following the example of Band Aid, a band consisting mainly of British and Irish artists who also raised money for the famine at the end of 1984 with "Do They Know It's Christmas?". Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song "We Are the World" for USA for Africa, which was produced by Quincy Jones. The song was recorded on January 28, 1985 and released as a single on March 7. This single reached number 1 worldwide and is one of the best-selling charity singles ever.''
I am so glad you got to experience this song, so many of these artists are no longer around and to have them all in this together is wonderful. And thanks for reminding me of my age a few times mentioning how old the song is 😂
There are a few things I want to inform you about StaceyRPG (nice last name. lol) . . . 1 - In 1985, Canadian artists also came together for a benefit song . . . Their name was NORTHERN LIGHTS (how fitting) and they performed the song 'Tears are Not Enough' . . . 2 - As to Bruce Springsteen, aka "THE BOSS" . . . I will boldly make this statement . . . I attended the Born to Run concert at the Montreal Forum in 1985 . . . and I was left overwhelmed, in awe and motivated. He performed over 3.5 hours and I was completely exhausted after that concert . . . BUT . . . that concert also changed my life . . . . It was the BOSS that showed me what hard work and dedication can do to achieve your goals in life. The BOSS made me a business man, made me own 4 companies and taught me to live my life for others . . . 3 - YES, times have changed . . . there are no morals and values left in people. Today it's all about me, me, me and MY MONEY!! Men have become women and women are classless. Everyone is greedy and yet they are just slowly and methodically bowing to that greed and the corruption it brings . . . . 5 - . . . . There are many artists in this reaction that you can react to that will help your channel grow by leaps and bounds . . . 6 - and lastly . . . Happy Holidays to You and Yours and I wish you growing success in 2025. Remember I love you in a RnR kind of way . . .LOL
Your reaction is exACTly how we felt when it first aired !!! So, SO wonderful. And the story of it's making is equally amazing ! So many egos.... checked at the door... but still !!
Stacy thank you for this reaction to this particular song, I personally had all but forgotten about this as it's been several decades since I heard it last.
66 Year old BabyBoomer here. We had the best music, shared experience and the time of our lives. People today do not know talent, they are soul less, Godless creatures. We did something you young people will never do. We lived life. Take your face out of your phone and look around you. As for music, kids today for the most part are clueless as to what music is.
Kay grandma, that's a big stretch. I will freely acquiesce the music aspect. However your generation put us into gas shortages, recessions and a drug epidemic, not to mention global warming. Your generation is no better than ones before or after. Your generation is also the reason we drink and have no way to afford a house.
Merry Christmas Stacey, I'm so happy that you finally got to see this huge gem from 1985, this is the best music collab ever! I turned 5 when this came out.
What’s so odd about Elwood Blues being there? After all, The Blues Brothers did have a chart topping album. 😎 You see, he’s just disguised as professional paranormal investigations and eliminations expert Ray Stanz, in order to evade the cops.
When this song came out, I was working at a radio station in Seattle. There was a movement for every radio station, coast to coast, to play this song at the same time;. We di it. When it was playing, I scanned the stations in Seattle. Every one of them were playing "We Are The World." Pop, rock, country, classical, news talk, etc. It was amazing. I was proud to be a part of that.
Bruce Springsteen had also lead a collab video of artists for Africa in '86 w: his E-St Band's Clarence Clemons on sax🎷in streets of NYC w: 'Run DMC' & many other diff' great '80's stars, but I still can't find the title of that great anthem...🤔🤞🌍 🏙️ 🎵
Bob Geldof, who was the kickstarter of both British and the Americans. When they where recording this in the USA, he bursted in, found out they had eleborate catering, very excuisite.. He shouted that the Brits, when they where recording it, only had cups of water and some bread. And ordered all catering to be gone, and had them start over again. "when you sing for hunger, feel the hunger"
A Complete "Garden Salad" of Talent...I was in High School when this came out and it rocked our world! Very difficult not to feel wonderful watching and listening...Great reaction Stacy
For reference they recorded this whole song and music video on 1 night after the American music awards. And this was more or less the first and only time they had people in the studio recording this song. There is a documentary about how they made the song and this night called the greatest night in pop
Great reaction! It would be impossible to have something like that nowadays, because everyone (yes, everyone) would be using autotune and lipsync, meaning it would be a totally fake show. No singer in the 80s used such schemes, it was pure talent.

Me too and I agree 😊
Facts!
yes and no, it was at the height of the cold war between USA and the Soviet Union, with threats of nuclear missiles launched everyday. And All countries of eastern Europe were under communist dictatorships, great time for USA, but not ALL the world.
True words! Feel blessed as well!
me as well, all my teenage years were in the 80's, nothing like it
As an Aussie bloke in his 40s who loved this song as kid, yours tears really hit me and put into perspective the level of division the younger generations have had to live through. It's truly wrong and a failure on our part.
I can’t believe how quickly 40 years have gone by and if I don’t look in the mirror I think I’m still 28 years old! I love your heart felt reaction.
This
Amen. I was 15 when this came out. I had spent years watching Mtv. It really felt like the platform came of age with this and it's British counterpart. I'll forever be grateful for Bob Geldof for starting all this.
Exactly!
I was 14. You are right. It was a better time.
There was a moment in 1985 where every radio station played this song at the same time same hour. Including MTV. United Supporters for Africa (U S.A. for Africa)
I live in Brazil, and I heard this so many times in 1985, that I memorized the lyrics effortlessly, till TODAY !
The documentary on the making of this historic song is worth the watch!
Such a awesome star packed song - When Ray Charles comes in with his voice just gives me goosebumps... EPIC!
A few days later, he wasn't up to it that night/morning, swaying with a coffee cup in front.
I second Born to Run. Stacey was shook when he came in. She needs to hear some Bruce for sure.
AND the LIVE Xmas song "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" with Sax-Master, Clarence, doing the "Ho,Ho,Hos"!!!
@kevinjennings238 great pick, Kevin. That was such a classic! Happy holidays ✌️
YESSSS please, all of them
There will never be that much talent together in one room again. Ever.
There will be, they might not perform together though
I completely agree.
I said it before and I will say it again the 80s was the greatest decade of music ever imo… preferably rock, but you have things like this that unfortunately we will never see and you’re right. Stacy the world could use something like this today always enjoy your reactions. Have a great day and a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
I agree.So many good singers,bands and songs,back then.
This song is so iconic with such legends! I miss this era 😊
I did not expect this to bring me to tears after all these years. But it did.
I think you and I have similar emotional feelings when we listen to music. Your emotions often mirror mine while watching this
This was such an amazing colab, and incredible how they did it after a Music Award Show. Netflix did a great documentary on this. Amazing how they kept it all under wraps. No way they could ever do that in today’s world.
This video opens up a whole new list of rabbit holes to go down! Bruce, Stevie, Lionel, many more.
No autotune, pure talent.
over night, after The American Music Awards in Jan '85
not true .. the chorus MJ recorded by himself there while the others were at the awards show
@@xabun wrong again MJ and Lionel previously the day before wrote the lyrics. After Harry Bellefonte brought the idea, concept to Quincy.
@@patcurrie9888 not true. Mj wrote most of the song and lionel was only credited because they were friends. There is even the MJ solo demo version on TH-cam
@@xabun most of the song, come on, splitting hairs much Lionel ass't then. Whatev.
Merry Christmas beautiful people, merry christmas Stacey 🎉❤🎄
im 64, this song gives me chills every single time i hear it. so much talent that came together for a good cause...... amazing...... great reaction, thank you..................
I remember this collab as a kid from the 80’s. It still makes me emotional seeing it now in my 50’s☑️☑️☑️
I was 10 when this masterpiece comes out. I'm now 50 and I'm still crying anytime I listen to all of them with this awesome icon piece
Great reaction! It’s a very emotional song. Can’t believe you didn’t know Bruce Springsteen! Now you have to listen to more of Bruce.
I just recently heard Lionel Richie say in the Awards Chatter Podcast that they recorded the whole track between 1am and 5am. They literally met in the middle of the night and were done before morning light. Absolutely astonishing.
A reactor could make a living for many years watching the performances by the talent in this room. Glad you enjoyed it.
It is so beautiful! I ❤ that you said we need more of this in our New Year 🎉 We have to stand up for love❤ & our freedom 😊
They did this after the awards show in L.A. all night into the morning it is AMAZING
hello Stacy, Merry Christmas... I love your reactions so much! You put so much of your soul into it. You often have 40% song and 60% reactions that shows how deep you are in it. Thank you for your emotions.
HI STACEY LOVED YOUR REACTION TO A GREAT SONG HAPPY CHRISTMAS.😘
Kenny Rogers was one of the first to say he’d do it. After that people started saying yes to it, and when Bob Dylan came on everyone wanted to be there.
Even John Denver. They said no thanks. They asked Whitney, she couldn't be bothered
@ there’s a whole story behind Prince not doing it, he wanted to change the song, when Quincy said he couldn’t he said he would just play guitar for it, and again Quincy said he had to be part of the ensemble like everyone else, Prince said no.
@@emcsquared8681 sure I heard about Prince too.
@@patcurrie9888that’s not true. She was not a star yet, she had just barely released her first album.
@@DeborahDavis-zi6pm She won an award that night and was asked. I'm sure Lionel and Quincy could see her trajectory.
One thing that was amazing to me was many of the familiar faces in the chorus who didn't get solos. Lindsey Buckingham, Harry Belafonte, Bette Midler, Janet Jackson. They all put their egos in check for a day and made a beautiful piece of music!
Janet Jackson was not a part of this. But other Jackson's were
@@for-house-stark I'm sorry. I screwed that up. That was Latoya.
When the world was a kinder and gentler place. I’m so grateful to have lived during this time.
3:42, that incredible musician is Bruce Springsteen. We would love a reaction to one of his songs! Keep it up Stacey, the videos are super fun and energetic!
Bruce Springsteen - Tougher Than the Rest (Official Video)
@Baltazar_1976 Amazing song! That one or Dancing in The Dark will be a very nice reaction!
@alexgrancharov5109 yeah!🤗
@alexgrancharov5109 Streets of Philly pls
Born to Run is his first song you must react to!
There was a sign outside that read "Please check your ego at the door"
the fact that Cndy was there, and Madonna wasn´t, is the main reason that Cindy ( to me ) will always be a better artist and person than Madonna.
Michael Jackson is younger than Cindy Lauper. He would have been 66 this year
And of all those asked to take part, there was only one refusal... Prince.
@@TheFioda Huh? Madonna wasn't invited, so what does that have to do with the kind of person she is?
@@clh35 the fact that she wasn´t invited speaks volumes😁Thanks for the help
Stacey, I get to tears every time I hear that song. When it released it sent chills and moved me so deep. Triggered many tears that first listening. I am happy you got to hear it. This song should be a mantra for all!
We lost a musical giant in the industry, Quincy Jones, just last month. He produced this song, AND some of the biggest albums in history. Without him, music wouldn’t be the same.
We’ve lost a lot of good talent and hasn’t been any good music past 20 years and it’s sad. The music sucks past 20 years. There’s no heart and soul in music past 20 years. It needs to change.
Mj and Lionel Richie wrote it
I remember this like it was yesterday.
I can see you have a big heart and bless you for that, thank you for another great reaction ❤
Alot of Great Artists coming together to sing for a Great Cause. Such a Inspirational Reaction to a Inspirational Video.
Your reaction was like mine when I heard it when it was first aired. Amazing talent. It's wonderful to watch them all again. Thank you!
I'm impressed that for as young as you are you knew as many as you did. The guy you kept asking about who he was was "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen.
What an amazing presentation - you are so intelligent, sensitive and articulate. You should have your own TV show.
Wikipedia:
''USA for Africa was created based on an idea by Harry Belafonte to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia by putting together a band with mainly black artists.
And thanks for reminding me of my age a few times mentioning how old the song is 😂
Having all those artists in the same studio as Bob Dylan and Billy Joel is so rewarding.
Remember I love you in a RnR kind of way . . .LOL
You talk about people today being all about MY MONEY. Wasn't the 80s the decade of excess?
5:35 Don't think we have the same sort of stars today as then. Celebs don't carry the same weight anymore.
EXACTLY!
Your reaction is exACTly how we felt when it first aired !!! So, SO wonderful. And the story of it's making is equally amazing ! So many egos.... checked at the door... but still !!
I've seen this a million times and I still cry every time..
The world had different values back then.
So true! It needs to change. Need to find the real talent and have good music again.
The sheer volume of iconic voices we had in the 70’s and 80’s still astounds me. We had it so good.
The oddest one in that bunch? Dan Akroyd.
He was so young then it's surprising how many do not recognize him.
What’s so odd about Elwood Blues being there? After all, The Blues Brothers did have a chart topping album. 😎
You see, he’s just disguised as professional paranormal investigations and eliminations expert Ray Stanz, in order to evade the cops.
ray Charles was the oldest
@@mikefitznb1No, Harry Belafonte was older than Ray.

You're amazing in your choices, Stacey
Merry Christmas Stacey! Awesome reaction!
Great song, I'm in tears too Stacey. Sending you a box of Xmas tissues with a big hug!! Ha ha Cheers Peter.
Because Geldof saw a Canadian reporter doing a report on what was happening, and Canadian artists also had their own song for relief 🇨🇦
*STARS by Hear 'n Aid (1986) was a collaboration of rock and metal artists for African charity.
A Complete "Garden Salad" of Talent...I was in High School when this came out and it rocked our world! Very difficult not to feel wonderful watching and listening...Great reaction Stacy
"I love his voice. Who is he?" That would be Bruce "the Boss" Springsteen. Oh boy, if you start reacting to his songs, you're in for a treat.
This was for me the glory days of music. The amout of talent, star power in that room will never be matched!
For reference they recorded this whole song and music video on 1 night after the American music awards. And this was more or less the first and only time they had people in the studio recording this song. There is a documentary about how they made the song and this night called the greatest night in pop
i feel fortunate I had a chance to see you listen to this. So beautiful, smart, appreciative just being yourself.
It's an all star group , so many famous people, so many of them are gone now , amazing song ❤
Such a beautiful reactor. And so intelligent, too. It’s amazing.
Great reaction! It would be impossible to have something like that nowadays, because everyone (yes, everyone) would be using autotune and lipsync, meaning it would be a totally fake show. No singer in the 80s used such schemes, it was pure talent.
It was wonderful to see you watch this-I’ve seen it many times in my life (including when it came out) but seeing it fresh in 2024 is refreshing. Kudos!
