I think this song is the theme song for alot of people (including myself). It is a very simple message, but the way it is sung brings it feeling from the soul. How many of us "travel the road less travelled" in our journey through life? It almost becomes a celebration of individuality.
I wish I would also have this song at my funeral some day whenever I die. I'm still pretty young though.
I mean, the road less travelled as a concept from that poem isn’t anything great lol it’s about how the paths were essentially the same and he ended up in the same destination anyway, so not only was the destination no different, but the journey wasn’t really different either. He just tells people it made all the difference because he wants his choice to have more meaning than it actually did.

Sinatra was renowned for his phrasing. He would break down songs in new ways - pause in the middle of lines where others had not - and truly make songs his own.

"My Way" was written, and originally performed by, Paul Anka. He had a good career too, just not quite as famed as Mr. Sinatra, who was the model for Johnny Fontaine in the movie "The Godfather". Frank was a native of Hoboken, New Jersey.
Sorry the original song is French, "comme d'habitude" lyrics by Claude François and music by Jacques Revaux.
@@alexandersteinmetz6857 Don't know the French version, but it was Mr. Anka who penned the English version. Best French song ever IMO was "C'est Plan Por Moi" by the Plastic Bertrand Band. That rocks out pretty good.

My grandmother played this at my grandfather's funeral. I think that was a popular thing to do for that generation that fought in WWII. It's very moving.
In the record industry there were professional songwriters and there were vocalists. Show tunes and movie scores made up much of The Great American Songbook. No one expected great vocalists to write the songs. They had to interpret them and make them their own ☮️
This song always makes me think of my dad - it was one of his favourites. Lots of people covered this, but it was Sinatra's theme, and almost everyone associates it with him. And yes, there were lots of rumours of Sinatra's connections with "The Family". Another Sinatra song worth listening to is "New York New York". And he acted a lot - even won an Oscar. As for the Rat Pack, hunt down the 1960 original of the movie "Ocean's Eleven", which was a Rat Pack classic.

Frank Sinatra _always_ delivered lyrics. To be fair to Frank, he had a better voice in his younger days. He was about 53yo in 1969 when "My Way" was first released. However, Frank made up for deficiencies in his older voice using his experience, wisdom, and mastery of technique. A great song, superbly sung, over gorgeous orchestration.
"That's Life" is fun. For sh!ts and giggles, you might enjoy the very silly _Bing Crosby & Frank Sinatra - Well, Did You Evah (High Society)_ it's from the film "High Society". It's glorious, camp, silliness, with Sinatra playing slightly drunk while singing. I hope it'll make you smile. I assume the vocals were not recorded live.

I would say this is Sinatra's biggest hits but then I remember "New York, New York", "The Lady is a Tramp", Fly Me to the Moon," and so many others. Frank Sinatra is one of the three most important artists of the 20th Century. Louis Armstrong and The Beatles being the other two. Sinatra started his career during the Big Band Era. The instruments were the star and singers were regulated to back-up status. Sinatra's singing stood out to the point that he killed the big band and made the lead singer the star of the group. Women were reacting to Sintra the way they would later react to Presley. By the way, I don't include Presley in most important artist is because Sam Phillips went hunting for a white man who could sing like a black man. The music debt is more due to Phillips then Elvis.
I always thought 'Fly Me to the Moon' was more Dean Martin's than Sinatra's, but given how close the both of them were, it could have been either one.

Michael Jackson was a massive superstar and quite possibly the last to ever reach that status and he most definitely had a big impact on the world of music, but I would place him one tier down with the likes of Led Zepplin, Diana Ross, and Hank Williams Sr. This is great company to be among. I have debated (and continue to do so) whether Jimi Hendrix's redefining the electric guitar and Robert Johnson's overall contribution being equal to the Sinatra and company. I probably haven't done so in the tradition of the immortals of classical music, Bach, Beethoven and Mozart (swap for Brahms if you are older. I did not create the Sinatra, Beatles, and Armstrong list but encountered it somewhere (unfortunately, I read this a long long time ago and cannot state who the source was.) The article made a very strong argument for these specific artist's contribution that I adopted the list for myself. @@goldgameplays1946

Tony Orlando has a story about how when he was a teen in NYC he would practice his singing on the rood and would write in the snow like a marquee "Tony Orlando with guest frank Sinatra" years later frank made him a piece with that exact set up with a solid gold plaque on the bottom that said "keep dreaming kid" he still has it to this day.

In the Bon Jovi song, It's My Life, there's a line that says "like Frankie said, I did it my way," Is a direct reference to this song, and sadly, no one puts it together.
The Rat Pack was the cool kids for sure. Frank, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Joey Bishop. And don't sleep on Frank as an actor. Also he was absolutely mob connected. Likely because he kinda built old Vegas and let's not kid ourselves about mob influence there. Great reaction to a classic.

Frank Sinatra was one of the greats, with a unique tone to his voice that set him apart from other singers. One of the best lines of the song is “ To say the things he truly feels, and not the words of one who kneels” . That is so powerful.
Frank Sinatra won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in “From Here to Eternity” (1953).

I am so thrilled to see y'all react to "The Chairman of the Board" ! Frank Sinatra is unquestionably one of my top 10 favorite singers of all time, and that's coming from a metal head. Ol' Blue Eyes was in a class that very few could graduate.
This was my dads favorite song. He passed when i was 10 so this holds great memories, but also makes me sad jn how much i miss him. But a beautiful song.

As to Elvis singing this song, that’s the song Eddie Murphy sings while he’s impersonating Elvis in his Delirious special. If you haven’t watched it, you need to. Probably the funniest stand up routine ever.
You're definitely right that he was one of those guys where "certain" articles of clothing were thrown on stage. 15-20 years before the famous Beatlemania where hordes of girls would scream for The Beatles, there was Sinatramania where Frank would have hordes of young girls screaming for him and fainting in his presence. He was THE big super star in his day.
Watch the original version of the movie "Ocean's Eleven". This was an excuse for the Rat Pack to enjoy some time in Las Vegas together and make a movie. Rumour has it that a mob boss used his influence to get Frank Sinatra a part in the movies "Here to Eternity" and that started his acting career. Frankie was also one of the first singers to attract mobs of screaming girls to his concerts.

Just to be clear, Sinatra won one Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.
He also won four golden globes, has three stars on the Hollywood walk of fame for music, movies and television, and was presented with the Screen Actor’s Guild lifetime achievement award in 1972.

Since your wearing a Queensryche shirt Smokey, y’all should check out something from the “Promised Land” album. “Out of Mind”,”Bridge” written by DeGarmo with very emotive vocals from Geoff, “Lady Jane”, “One More Time” (the alt version has a great sax in it played by Geoff) “Someone Else” album and alt version lyrics very slightly and the mood is slightly diff, but in my opinion, “Bridge”, “Lady Jane” and especially “Someone Else” are better than “Silent Lucidity” (which I love as well)
While Old Blue Eyes made this famous for being a man's, man...Elvis made it tragic because it reflected the bad parts of his life. Soul either way.

He did the album as a way to raise money for NDSS since his daughter was born with Down syndrome. He got the blessing from the Sinatra estate and got to do the album with Sinatra’s band.

Back in the '40's - '60's the mob ran a lot of the clubs on the East coast, some on the West and definitely Las Vegas. Frank Sinatra was not a made man, but knew and respected, was respected by some mafia personnel he knew coming up through the ranks.

They say in the godfather frank is the singing godson that wanted the part in the movie.
The connection was that lots of his work came from working at clubs that were owned by shady people. That kept him from being broke and in the public eye.
The word classic is used too easily these days but this is a classic. Frank Sinatra apparently had ties with the New York mob.
And the Chicago mob.
There is a reason that his nickname ( one of them at least ) is " The Voice ".

The rat pack mostly performed in Vegas. Members were Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Joey Bishop. When one hotel they were going to perform at told them that Sammy couldn't stay there because black guests were not allowed Frank said "If Sammy isn't good enough to stay here then he's not good enough to sing here and I don't go on the stage without Sammy" In less than an hour the hotel changed its policy. Don Rickles had a lot of good stories about Sinatra during the Vegas years. He once said that Sinatra saved his life once. Two guys were beating him up and Frank said "ok boys, that's enough" and I paid Frank the money I owed him. Frank starred in the original Ocean's Eleven and had a much bigger film career than Sammy Davis Jr.
