      @Paul-nq1ik 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yeah, same here. Off course back then there were also people feeling offended by this and I guess, just like nowadays, those are all frustrated people unhappy with themselves but to damn lazy to change if they're so unhappy. So just blame it on someone else. Didn't work back then, but nowadays the snowflakes dictate society. I have lost a lot of weight in the past, actually fitted the social accepted body shape, but man I was completely derailed mentally. I was so unhappy and so I learned that the rest of the world can go F it self when it comes to my weight or size. So what if might die a bit sooner, at least I have enjoyed my life and not wasted it to be what others want me to be. There is of course a difference between humor, sincere worries for a persons health and just be outright offensive. Although I think that if you're happy, you can't be offended by such shallow comments. Always reminds my of this great bumper sticker I one saw: "I'm fat, you're stupid. At least I can do something about being fat" 🙂
      Man I wished they could bring back shows like this...

    A lot of people thought the insults towards larger size women were not funny but as many of the plus size actresses said they were thankful because for a lot of them, this was the only acting job that they could get where they had a speaking role, when some of them were in the process of getting into shape.
    What I loved about watching how the show was started was finding out Ed O'Neill originally did not want to do the role of Al because he had never really done comedy before. Of course, this was the show that launched the careers of Katey Sagal and Christina Applegate (who was not in the original pilot that was presented).

    • @TheMeerkat2323

      the other thing to add about the big women that appeared on the show, in the end they were queuing up begging to be a "victim" of Al's jokes, they loved it, and like you said, it got them on to tv where no other show would touch them, which is very sad in itself, why couldn't they be good at their job just because they're bigger than normal

      @@chrischar9428You are wrong !!! This information is duplicated from another post of mine, but I wanted you to see it:
      The plus-sized ladies were NOT ONLY thankful, but those fat jokes were generally written by the plus sized actresses themselves. Additionally, Marcie (Amanda Bearse) was the Executive Director of over 31 episodes of the show (and over 90 episodes of comedy series total). She also wrote most of the jokes directed at her by Al (and her 2 onscreen husbands). In fact, you can see in this compilation of clips ... in the last clip, in the (i.e. "10 things ...") list that Al recites to her ... that Marcie breaks character and very nearly laughs aloud.

    The basic theme was that Al peaked in high school and he hated his life. The show came about as a response to all the "perfect family" sitcoms at the time.

    It's not true that body-shaming jokes weren't a problem in the 90's. One of the reasons why this show became was so popular was all the publicity it gained, because of some activists organized strikes against it airing on Fox. As the result, the show on an unknown station gained the country-wide recognition and the actors actually publicly thanked the strike's organizer for free promotion and the show ended up become produced for a decade

    I love this comedy. I'm overweight, and yes the jokes are funny. It's not personal, and if you don't like it, there's what? 100 other channels you can watch. Bring it back I say, because if no-one watches it, it will get cancelled anyway.

    It's not that there were less fat people when the show was running. People back then just understood the concept of humor and had much thicker skin. I knew plenty of people who were slightly overweight to extremely overweight and maybe 1 or 2 of them would actually get their feelings hurt from time to time, but they would get over it quick. They didn't make it their life's mission to get everyone to change their opinion of them, and they understood what caused them to be that size and didn't blame everyone else for it. And most of them loved the fat jokes in Married With Children. My mother was a huge fan of the show, and she was not skinny. But she had what is a rare condition now called a sense of humor.

    Many of the insults were writtenby Amanda Bearse.

    Just an FYI ... The plus-sized ladies were NOT ONLY thankful to be on the show, but they were generally the authors OF those fat jokes. Additionally, Marcie (Amanda Bearse) was the Executive Director of over 31 episodes of the show (and over 90 episodes of comedy series total). She also wrote most of the jokes directed at her by Al (and her 2 onscreen husbands). In fact, you can see in this compilation of clips ... in the last clip ... in the (i.e. "10 things ...") list that Al recites to her ... that Marcie breaks character and very nearly laughs aloud.

    If you like comedy try some Sanford and Son, or All In The Family, or The Jefferspns or even Good Times these are old comedy shows from the 70's and 80's. And these ladies were helping the writers on the insults they were getting in the show plus the lady who played the part pf Marcy Darcy was a co-writer who did all of her insults with Al herself.

    React to Sanford and Son. Red Foxx was a comedic genius whose talent was unsurpassed when his career peaked; Whitman Mayo was also a legend. God rest their souls!! I have huge respect for Ed O'Neill, yet Married With Children is no match for how good Sanford and Son show still is.

    Married with Children was one of the full-frontals of Fox's beginnings in the 90's. The Simpsons was another one in that it was a Prime-time cartoon that had adultish (not x-rated) vibes. Al and family were a televised dysfunctional family that, at their core, were still a family. There are numerous instances in the series where they stand up for one-another out of love, and a lot of tearing down out of spite. This was a level of family 'abuse' that actually existed in the 90's. What husband doesn't talk down about his wife to the boys while jealously defending her? What wife doesn't try to emasculate her husband while defending him against any trollop that comes along? What younger brother doesn't go out of his way to annoy and sabotage his older sister while still being willing to defend her against jerks, and vise versa? There was a level of this that existed in real life and Fox was not afraid to show it in a way that people connected to. You can have the best writing in the world but if no one connects to it, it is worthless.
