Back in the days when people could laugh at themselves as well as others. Self deprecating humor is a thing of the past.
no it's not.
"Self" depreciating 😂
his words are hurtful.
That wasn’t self deprecating humor.
Self-deprecating humor? Nothing in that video was self-deprecating humor.
"How dare you say that to my face!" "I'd say it behind your back, but my car's only got a half tank of gas!" is the greatest line ever written on TV.
Classic! My favorite line a well...though All In the Family, Jeffersons and Sanford n Son didn't hold back either
The Greatest Line On the Show to Me Will Always Be 'Don't Try to Understand Women Women Understand Women & they Hate Each-Other
My favorite was
" HI honey, did you miss me?"
"With every bullet so far " 🤣
''Gee i sure hope that's a Jehova witness...*grabs bat*'' 'Lemme get this straight, pardon the expression'. Nah. Almost every episode has a favorite line...
That line was used by Rodney Dangerfield back in the 70’s
Al Bundy scored 4 touchdowns in one game he's a legend
In high school...
@@3DJapan
Polk high
Indeed he is, also on a side not imagine if Ed O'Neil made the Steelers roster, would he still be an actor after his NFL career, kinda makes you think.
peaked at high school
The world really needs Al Bundy today.
Great Reaction........
Married With Children was a great show.....
Fun Fact: Most of the large women were comedians that provided most of the jokes that roasted themselves......
awe miss the ol' days ... hmm.
@@oDv. Agree......
💯% true
Yes and the actress that played Marcy was one of the writers of the show and wrote all of the jokes directed at her as well as the jokes she fired back at Al
Al Bundy was savage but hilarious!!
In my youth I was overweight, I laughed my pants off when Al fired at the fat people. I didn't mind it a bit !! , never felt offended.
Yeah, same here. Off course back then there were also people feeling offended by this and I guess, just like nowadays, those are all frustrated people unhappy with themselves but to damn lazy to change if they're so unhappy. So just blame it on someone else. Didn't work back then, but nowadays the snowflakes dictate society. I have lost a lot of weight in the past, actually fitted the social accepted body shape, but man I was completely derailed mentally. I was so unhappy and so I learned that the rest of the world can go F it self when it comes to my weight or size. So what if might die a bit sooner, at least I have enjoyed my life and not wasted it to be what others want me to be. There is of course a difference between humor, sincere worries for a persons health and just be outright offensive. Although I think that if you're happy, you can't be offended by such shallow comments. Always reminds my of this great bumper sticker I one saw: "I'm fat, you're stupid. At least I can do something about being fat" 🙂
Man I wished they could bring back shows like this...
Same, except as a flat-chested woman :P It's not personal in any way. A well-crafted joke is a well-crafted joke.
People choose to be offended...don't like turn the channels 🤷
I'm black and love Archie bunker and can't get enough of the movie bringing down the house.... It had sooooo much racist stuff in here against black people AND I LOVED IT 😅 that's how those kind of people are... so laugh at it 🤨🙄
@@cleftheart1969 well joke only become insult when you take them as insults! yest some peoples may said it as insult but if you take them as "good joke" it's fun to see their face angry about you not taking it seriousely!
i'm not on the level of insults/jokes than you that's sure but i'm disable and receive some and every time i turn the joke back just with a "yes that's true but XXX is worst!" XXX bein something the one insulting me is!
colors, religion,etc... nothings matter first we are all human and when you take an insult ( or joke) badly you just invite the other to continu if you joke about it then turn back a joke to the "insulter" they will fill bad!
Al Bundy for president.
I am from Australia and I say Al Bundy for president
Just for the record this show made Fox not the Simpsons.
So true
You protest something, your getting lots of people to gather against it.
Yes!
the simpsons started out as a minor skit on Fox's Tracey Ulman show
💯
A lot of people thought the insults towards larger size women were not funny but as many of the plus size actresses said they were thankful because for a lot of them, this was the only acting job that they could get where they had a speaking role, when some of them were in the process of getting into shape.
What I loved about watching how the show was started was finding out Ed O'Neill originally did not want to do the role of Al because he had never really done comedy before. Of course, this was the show that launched the careers of Katey Sagal and Christina Applegate (who was not in the original pilot that was presented).
the other thing to add about the big women that appeared on the show, in the end they were queuing up begging to be a "victim" of Al's jokes, they loved it, and like you said, it got them on to tv where no other show would touch them, which is very sad in itself, why couldn't they be good at their job just because they're bigger than normal
Completely wrong
@@chrischar9428You are wrong !!! This information is duplicated from another post of mine, but I wanted you to see it:
The plus-sized ladies were NOT ONLY thankful, but those fat jokes were generally written by the plus sized actresses themselves. Additionally, Marcie (Amanda Bearse) was the Executive Director of over 31 episodes of the show (and over 90 episodes of comedy series total). She also wrote most of the jokes directed at her by Al (and her 2 onscreen husbands). In fact, you can see in this compilation of clips ... in the last clip, in the (i.e. "10 things ...") list that Al recites to her ... that Marcie breaks character and very nearly laughs aloud.
@StevesFunhouse thank you for your reply kind sir!!
@@frederickseltzerjr2170No problem, man. Happy to do it.
We gotta stick together to combat the trolls that just spout things (usually negative) that come into their minds or argue when they have no clue about what they are arguing against.
Al Bundy, real man of genius. A man ahead of his time
him and tim allen are goated
Believe it or not, there was a time you could laugh and make fun of everyone, and no one was hurt by it. The times they are a changin'.
This show was always offensive, not just today. It was even offensive back then too. Because back in the 80s, people were only use to “good wholesome family” shows. Then when this show came out, it shocked alot of people and some critics were trying to get it cancelled
@@nsasupporter7557 And at the same time they embraced Howard Stern. Go figure.
People didn't have Twitter back then, let alone social media.
@@OMGtheykilledKenny42 what was the point of that response?
@@OMGtheykilledKenny42 are you assuming that everybody’s stupid or wasn’t aware that there was no social media back then, is that why you had to say that pointless response? 🥴 by the way, Twitter is part of social media
It's a shame there are no more comedies on TV that aren't cartoons. I watched this show every Sunday as a kid.
Why not Al Bundy, senior citizen vs woke students?
Back when COMEDY was COMEDY. I love this show. Great Post.
I watched this show faithfully back in the late 80s and early 90s. AL is my hero ! 🤣
These clips are really for the people that used to watch the show. They get all the jokes
There was another sitcom in the early 70s that was the precursor to this. It was called "All in the Family." The star was "Archie Bunker," and he makes AL Bundy look like a choir boy. 😂
Check it out. It really pushed the envelope and would be canceled immediately in today's weak society.
Archie loved his wife and family..cant say same for bundy
Don’t forget Fred Sanford and George Jefferson
Those were mostly racist jokes though.
@@3DJapan you don’t even have to that far back though. Even the Chappelle Show would get canceled today
All in the Family had a spin-off called The Jeffersons. Two of the writers from that series became the producers of Married With Children.
Al Bundy??? Who once scored 4 touchdowns in 1 game??? That Al Bundy?? Freaking love Married with Children & Al!! Even have his jersey as hoodie😆😎
He was a person who likes to see others laugh. 😀
I watched every episode and i am from the Netherlands !
Al Bundy is a legend. 😂😂😂
I was there for the first episode of MWC, and I was there for the last episode of the series, probably my favorite sitcom of all time. It had a few rough spots here and there, but overall, comedy at it's finest. I'm normally not about reboots and such, but I'm interested in seeing what the new animated show has to offer, since the original cast are doing their roles again.
The actress that played Marci actually came up with the idea to call her a chicken, plus wrote many of the insults as well. Many of the overweight women Al insulted were standup comics and so wrote alot of those insults. It was a different time. People didn't take themselves so seriously. We need to return to that mindset.
Stand ups I've never seen or heard of
@@chrischar9428 Me neither. But that is what the info says.
Her hairdo does make her look like a chicken, and she sometimes bobs her head like one :P.
I'm such a fatty and the fat jokes in the show are hilarious. Ed O'neil delivers them so perfectly
the best part he never made a joke the other actors wrote them for him
Al rocked. This show was the best in the 90's! I used to watch it before going out late to a club
I have seen hundreds and hundreds of reactors reaction to these types of things everyone laughs because they love it. And the same breath say this wouldn't work today. When it obviously is. But a lot of people make money off of TH-cam so they can't say it publicly
Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, "Spare Tire" Dixon.
Hahahahaaa! What a good laugh guys
I loved watching this show.
This show was amazing, AL Bundy is one of my favorite TV show characters of all time
Fun fact: Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) and Amanda Bearse (Marcy the neighbor) often wrote the jokes directed at each other....as in Ed wrote the jokes Amanda said, and Amanda wrote Ed's.
Greatest sitcom of all time. No contest.
Love Al Bundy. Thanks for the reaction.
*Married With Children* had 11 seasons ending in 1997 but then ran reruns. Many young people probably know "Peggy Bundy" as the voice on Futurama
Sons of Anarchy say hold my chain wallet
The wife Peggy Bundy is played by Katey Sagal. Most of the people don't know, that she is a pretty good singer! She was a background singer in 6 bands before she released 4 solo albums! :)
Just to mention ... I loved the show a lot! They had several guests, too. To stick to music: The great B.B. King were on the show, too! :)
I know this video was about our beloved Al 😂 but my favorite character was his daughter Kelly (Christina Applegate). The EP where she is trying to study to be on a game show is priceless. Our family STILL uses lines from that EP in our household.
I grew up watching this. I wish we still had a sense of humor. 😂
The actors who played Al and Marcy started the show as friends in real life but by the end they hated each other. She hates him even today. There is a video on YT talking about the relationship.
I never heard that they started off as friends, I understood that they always hated eachother
Back when tv was tv. Alot of this wouldnt fly in todays society! I saw these clips at least a dozen times and they're as funny as the first time I heard them! 👍👍😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
An Al Bundy fan came up to him at an airport a few years ago & ask for an autograph & a selfie, which he gave her. After she left he found out it was Brittany Speers.
Married... with children & Love Thy Neighbour were my 2 favourite comedy shows.
Use to love watching this show when it was on. I still watch reruns on hulu. One of the best sitcoms made back then.
7:37 This lady was a standup comedian back in the day. She wrote the jokes/insults Al is using in this scene herself.
Most of the Chicken/"woman looks like a boy" jokes were written by the lady who played Marcy, who also directed 30 episodes of the show.
Marriedcwith Children was (still is) a great sitcom, series where the family looks and sounds like real life family. Everyone says bad things about others, do stupid things and so on. But when things get serious, they team up and protect other members of their family. Goooo Bundys ! 👍
And Al Bundy, he sure is the rolemodel todays youth need !!
Thomas Markle, father of the queen of the world & Prince Harry's handler Meghan haha was an emmy winning lighting director for "married with children".
Interesting fact.
I LOVE THOSE TIMES WHERE PEOPLE DIDN'T HAVE TO BE POLITICALLY CORRECT. NOW THE SNOWFLAKES GET OFFENDED BY EVERYTHING.
I loved watching Al Bundy he always spoke his mind whether you liked it or not, and his insults damn they could make an elephant cry
This brings back memories, even years before this was on TV. One of the first jobs was as a ladies shoe salesman. It was never like his store though LOL. Good thing I broke away into a career with computers from 1985 to 2021. ;)
There was a try to get the show canceled in it's 1st season, but it only increased viewership to see what the hoopla was about. One of the cast said that they sent the instigator a Christmas card every year to thank her
Happy day's. Bundy for president. 💯🤣🇮🇹🇧🇪🇪🇺
I grew up watching AL Bundy. He's one of the most real characters ever. He still to this day says the the things we want to to say
Always used to watch this as a teenager in the 80's!
I grew up watching this banger of a show. This is the show that built the FOX tv network, and it ran for a decade for a reason.
The “I smell fowl (foul)” joke gets me every time
All of the chicken references were part of a long-running gag where Al would refer tk Marcy as a chicken.
I remember watching it my mom .miss you we laughed so hard.
Al Bundy is my hero.
Al Bundy is absolutely SAVAGE 😂👌🏻
It wasn’t just him making insults. The plots were bizarre 🤣 The comedy was so sensible, with such a clever flow, that I can still recite some entire episodes. A couple of my favorites: King of the Road and 976-SHOE.
The only hero who scored four touchdowns in one game for polke high.
One of my favorite shows. So funny
It really was a great show…well worth watching.
Love Al Bundy!
I've heard these insults dozens of times and they are still funny, and I enjoy people reacting to them.
A sign of True Comedy..... I still laugh hard when I hear "Who's on First" by Abbott and Costello.....
Lol "buck buck outta here"
The basic theme was that Al peaked in high school and he hated his life. The show came about as a response to all the "perfect family" sitcoms at the time.
New subscriber! Al kills me!😂 More Rush,Queen and here's a new one for ya..April Wine reactions
The "Get President to make every day Halloween" joke was extra amusing to me since I'm watching your reactions on Halloween.
Al Just Said What Everyone Was Thinking, But Didn't Have The Nerve To Say.
It's not true that body-shaming jokes weren't a problem in the 90's. One of the reasons why this show became was so popular was all the publicity it gained, because of some activists organized strikes against it airing on Fox. As the result, the show on an unknown station gained the country-wide recognition and the actors actually publicly thanked the strike's organizer for free promotion and the show ended up become produced for a decade
We need more Al bundys in the modern era.
wow how times have changed lolol
I love this comedy. I'm overweight, and yes the jokes are funny. It's not personal, and if you don't like it, there's what? 100 other channels you can watch. Bring it back I say, because if no-one watches it, it will get cancelled anyway.
This is the same kind of humor as in Blazing Saddles. It isn't about the insults, it's about showing the absurdity of the person who makes them.
Id rush home from middle school to watch this
Al Bundy for president!
You already got Al Bundy for president… his real name was Donald Trump 😉 if only he could be president again
No actor had what the creators were looking for. Untill Ed O'Neil came in for his audition! And thus was born Al Bundy!! The rest is history!
It's not that there were less fat people when the show was running. People back then just understood the concept of humor and had much thicker skin. I knew plenty of people who were slightly overweight to extremely overweight and maybe 1 or 2 of them would actually get their feelings hurt from time to time, but they would get over it quick. They didn't make it their life's mission to get everyone to change their opinion of them, and they understood what caused them to be that size and didn't blame everyone else for it. And most of them loved the fat jokes in Married With Children. My mother was a huge fan of the show, and she was not skinny. But she had what is a rare condition now called a sense of humor.
Many of the insults were writtenby Amanda Bearse.
She plays Marcy
Just an FYI ... The plus-sized ladies were NOT ONLY thankful to be on the show, but they were generally the authors OF those fat jokes. Additionally, Marcie (Amanda Bearse) was the Executive Director of over 31 episodes of the show (and over 90 episodes of comedy series total). She also wrote most of the jokes directed at her by Al (and her 2 onscreen husbands). In fact, you can see in this compilation of clips ... in the last clip ... in the (i.e. "10 things ...") list that Al recites to her ... that Marcie breaks character and very nearly laughs aloud.
Realest song reaction ❤️❤️❤️
Nobody has a sense of humor anymore.
You can say that again
I grew up watching this show. Most of these clips were from the last few years of the show ... he had plenty of one-liners in the earlier seasons too.
Little known tidbit.... Ed was not the first considered for the role of Al. They originally asked Michael "Cosmo Kramer" Richards for the role.
Best family show ever!!!
Best show ever done and the show writer's.
We went from shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Sandord and Son, Good Times, Married with Children to .... The Kardashians.
Wtf
If you like comedy try some Sanford and Son, or All In The Family, or The Jefferspns or even Good Times these are old comedy shows from the 70's and 80's. And these ladies were helping the writers on the insults they were getting in the show plus the lady who played the part pf Marcy Darcy was a co-writer who did all of her insults with Al herself.
This show was my childhood. The jokes never get old. Lol
Al Bundy was savage AF.
I loved that show.
Im on the health thing now for sure. Had "The Widow Maker" heart attack thursday (at age 51). Major lifestyle change!
HELLO FROM FINLAND....ALL BUNDY VAS MY FAVORITE...YEARS AGO...COLOMBO ALSO
If I was the mailman I’d be having your wife 😂😂😂😂, love it.
He was also on the show in living color doing mama's jokes
React to Sanford and Son. Red Foxx was a comedic genius whose talent was unsurpassed when his career peaked; Whitman Mayo was also a legend. God rest their souls!! I have huge respect for Ed O'Neill, yet Married With Children is no match for how good Sanford and Son show still is.
Bundy was Legend
Bundy for. President 2024
The heavy women who were in the scenes are actual comedians too and the insults were actually written to script by them.
Married with Children was one of the full-frontals of Fox's beginnings in the 90's. The Simpsons was another one in that it was a Prime-time cartoon that had adultish (not x-rated) vibes. Al and family were a televised dysfunctional family that, at their core, were still a family. There are numerous instances in the series where they stand up for one-another out of love, and a lot of tearing down out of spite. This was a level of family 'abuse' that actually existed in the 90's. What husband doesn't talk down about his wife to the boys while jealously defending her? What wife doesn't try to emasculate her husband while defending him against any trollop that comes along? What younger brother doesn't go out of his way to annoy and sabotage his older sister while still being willing to defend her against jerks, and vise versa? There was a level of this that existed in real life and Fox was not afraid to show it in a way that people connected to. You can have the best writing in the world but if no one connects to it, it is worthless.
Greatest sitcom ever made!
And Al was the greatest sitcom character ever created!
And I will fight anyone over that!
And I'll have your back in that battle haha
