Lesson Five With the Sony DSC HX400V: Overcoming the Wintertime Photography Blues

  • Ice, cold, storms and the flu sometimes conspire to make wintertime nature photography a miserable experience to overcome. In this video I talk about using technology and creativity to create beautiful photos from the natural world in winter, having suffered through the ice, cold, storms and the flu myself to produce the pictures you'll see here. The photographs and landscapes in this video come alive despite all the difficulties involved in securing them with the Sony DSC HX400V. You'll see the rather battered, aged photographer discuss the photos in his flu-ravaged voice, and hopefully agree he's overcome the difficulties of this challenging season.

    Very Nice photos, I like your work, I am just getting started at 65. But I like taking photos, it fun even if it 10 deg. and my sony DSC HX 400V works great.

    I really appreciate your narrative, the photos are inspiring as always 😍! Please keep these videos coming. I've watched everything you published here on your use of the HX400V, i found you after i ordered the same camera specifically to photograph birds. Cannot wait for it to arrive.

    Great stuff. Where I am from is not so great for birding right now, spring soon come. I like your approach and it has given me insight. I intend to use my (*retired) hunter/fisher skills to my advantage in the wild for birding/nature/lake photography. You're invited.

      Thanks, Tom. Being of retirement age myself, I know several people who have gone from hunting and fishing to nature photography. The skills translate. Let me know if you post any videos of what you do. Thanks for the kind words. Carl

    Thank you again for these videos. When you publish the settings next to the photos, should I assume you are in the Manual mode? My intention is to photograph mostly wildlife and mostly birds. I suppose it's unnecessary to mention that this camera is all new to me.

      Often in manual mode, but I react to the situation I have and use all the mode dial settings. Sometimes I have to react quickly. Sometimes I can take my time. Manual mode lets you choose, but it is sometimes slower and more demanding. All the best. Carl

    Very good images. What do you think about Panasonic lumix dmc fz80?

    • @carlreader8939
      @carlreader8939  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I've never used the camera, so I can't really say. I have a Panasonic ZS100 and like it very much for a compact camera. The Panasonic system is interesting and convenient, so I think the fz80 might also be. All the best. Carl

      Yes, you can. Switch to black and white under creative styles, or use picture effects monotone. All the best. Carl

    • @carlreader8939
      @carlreader8939  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - I use the fine setting most times, and also use the dynamic range optimizer and make sure my other settings are correct. 4K is not possible with this camera. I hope this helped. Carl
