I have used the watercolor effect several times & have turned a dull subject into something delightful. I love how it looks & get people swearing that I painted the picture.
I haven't tried printing on canvas, but some places off that service. If you can print on canvas, your friends will really believe you painted the picture. I'm glad using watercolors has worked out for you. All the best. Carl

Hi Jodi. Thanks for enjoying. You got a great birthday gift. The hood is very hard to find. I got it on Amazon. It was a Zeiss 55 mm, but it is not on Amazon anymore, as far as I know. The macro lens is a Raynox 250 and it can be found on Amazon for about $75, I believe. Others have told me they used a different 55mm hood, but you have to be careful with what you get. Going to your local photo store and asking there might help. All the best. Carl

Thanks for the nice comment. You know, I don't really know, since I've never run the battery down all the way on video mode. I think you can run it for just under a half-hour continuously before it over-heats. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Carl
I'd have to see the sculptures to know for sure, but you might start with the P mode if you are just beginning. Try to get the focus point on the eye of the sculpture, if it is a rendition of a a person. Aperture priority on f2.8 should give a nice blurred background. Also, ask what sort of lighting the museum uses, and set the white balance accordingly. Leave it on automatic if you are unsure. Every situation is different, so try many things and take many photos. Yes and Yea for the price --- This camera is updated -- it`s not an 6 year old camera -- i`ve made a video just now ( 1st atempt )from listening to Carls advise -- i don`t have his nature or wild life -- but in water colour any pic will improve by 100 % by this camera a little stub is intresting now ....-- -- i say this because i feel a ordinary pic . is"too good " it don`t seem smooth enough -- just too good -- i wanted to ask mr. Reader about this settings -- but i dont`t want to bother him too much ,,,, -- and the zooom - omg -- i`ve seen a oil rig smuggled in haste into the sea (miles away) that was a secret beacause of `green values ` its clear images miles away (on a tripod).. But what happends if u got 500x zoom and X 10 (more) in price -- i don`t know ..
When I choose the picture effect and press enter I get a screen that says This operation or setting not available as follows and underneath it it says Scene Selection and under that, it says portrait neither of which I can choose., I wonder if there is a software update or something I am missing?
Hi Amrita - Turn the mode dial (the round dial on the top right of the camera) to P, A, S or M. You probably have the mode dial set to automatic, which does not allow picture effects. For now, try P, since that is easiest. All the best. Carl

I wanted to ask you if you can confirm that the tt685s flash is 100% compatible before buying it. also I confirm that in Italy the dsc hx400v does not have support for 4k videos.

The hoods are very difficult to find. I purchased mine on Amazon several years ago, but it is not listed there anymore. Several others have tried to find it with little success. If my camera tries to retract the lens with a lens hood or lens cap on will it damage the camera or lens?
It should not, as long as everything fits properly.
