  • The Subaru Impreza has a few updates for 2020.Under the hood is still the 2.0L flat-4 naturally aspirated engine priding 152 HP & mated to a CVT transmission. The Impreza's exterior is updated slightly. On the inside there are some changes especially for the driver's side. Let me take you around and show you all the major changes for the Subaru Impreza.

    Man if you are looking for a cheap a-b car that you need good space with, this car wins. It's refreshing that subaru is still trying to make some inexpensive versions of their cars to compensate for most people not being able to afford all the other sedans and suvs over 30k. By afford i mean, having the cash to buy it and not making payments. Still wish we could get a full sized hatchback or low riding wagon for 25k.

    Awesome intro as usual, Great Changes here, super reliability, however I truly believe that no matter what level of vehicle, they all should give Fog Lights. They are of great help in many types of weather. Snow, rain, black ice, etc. ,,,a great feature for all Seasons in the entire USA. This goes for all Auto Maker's. Other than my opinion,, High 5, and 2 Thumbs up right here.

    Two weeks ago I purchased a 2020 base Impreza (with a manual transmission) - this is the perfect car for our winters in Canada. BTW, Subaru's AWD is full time which is far better than their competitors' so called "intelligent" Haldex part-time systems. Two small differences though: the outside mirrors are white like the rest of the car, and the speed & tachometer needles are red

    I really like the refreshed tail lights. The rear lighting was the main thing I wasn't in love with on the 2017-2019 Impreza and the new gen Crosstrek, but now with it looking bit more aggressive and darkened I think it looks a little more bold without being too try-hard. Really enjoy the refresh!

    Subaru should drop the 5 speed manual completely and adapt the same 6 speed manual used in the crosstrek. 6th gear for overdrive would bring the mpg up on the manual Impreza.

      That engine doesn't have the power, power band and weight to get good gas mileage. It blows my mind that Subaru is always going back in time. My Impreza is 21 years old and gets 26 highway with a 5 speed and a/c on. It also has more hp and tq at lower rpm's while being under 3000 pounds.

    cargo space and head/legroom is identical to the crosstrek; also pretty close to the civic hatchback for a lot cheaper! I was quoted civic sport hatch for 25 and Impreza for 20. I think the Impreza hatch would do well in a lineup for people considering hatches and crossovers. This car is very economical for people who don’t drive a ton and live with snow and ice

    Still have my 2020 Subaru Impreza hatch but once I got it (I was first owner) I had electrical radio issues and now I’m dealing with a faulty automatic window issue. My rpm’s also run incredibly high every day, hot and cold out.. not sure if it’s a normal thing as I don’t know nothing about cars but the high rpm’s is annoying. This is my first car it’s very roomy inside and the safety features are awesome, it’s pretty affordable too, doesn’t have much trunk space but the base comes with a cargo net, it’s also really really good on gas if you’re not a big driver like me.

    I currently own a 2016 Impreza in the Limited trim and, for what it is, is a fantastic vehicle. Traction control remains on above 25 mph unless all 4 wheels lose grip which is okay if you're not into more spirited driving. It's been pretty rainy here in the Bay Area the past few days and I've learned that it'll definitely kick the rear out without the traction light coming on if you push the car hard enough with wet roads and have a sharp enough turn and this makes me think that it may very well be at home on snow, gravel and dirt. I have a set of Goodyear Eagle Sport all-seasons on it which I've observed to be the best possible tire if you want decent semi-sporty handling while still maintaining good fuel economy.
    I only have two main gripes about it..
    There's a shit ton of cabin noise and interior rattling. If I were to price a brand new 2020 Impreza similarly to my current one, it would be just over 28k. There shouldn't be any major rattles or as much cabin noise as there is at that price point.
    That being said, it was a fantastic first car and I don't think I could have gotten a better deal when it comes to first cars. It's taken every beating that's been thrown at it and has kept kicking.
    Is it a driving enthusiast's car? No, not by any means.
    Is it one of the best do-it-all econoboxes for the price point? Absolutely

    • @e21junkie
      @e21junkie 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2015 Subaru sport wagon-no rattles at all a tiny bit of wind noise but listening to music you don’t notice-traction control is always on unless you press the button to left of the steering to turn it off but that should only be turned off if you are stuck in snow or mud so you can get out-but if you turn the traction off and when you turn off your car the next time you start your car it automatically will be on and should always be on-I take comers at 65 miles per hour and it’s glued to the road and in 4 years of driving it’s never gone off by itself no matter how I drive
      All I’ve done engine wise is a K/N air filter
      Borla exhaust
      Performance chip
      Removed charcoal filter in air box restricts air-gone = faster acceleration
      My car is super fast compared to stock

    I just got the base model. I think I would’ve liked the next trim up. I don’t have blinker lights on the side mirrors and they’re not power to close, I have to manually push them in. Also not loving radio. No SAT, just AM, FM and Apple CarPlay but still figuring it all out. I have Siriusxm subscription and I have to plug in my iPhone to use it and can’t change stations through steering wheel. My other car had SAT Radio which I loved. I like t just get in and go. Not a fan of plugging in my iPhone. Again, I’m still figuring it out, so maybe I’m not fully aware of how it works. It is an extremely comfortable fit and visibility is great. I love the extra glass triangle by the side mirrors too. Great review! Any more tricks or tips let me know! Thanks!

As mine has the premium trim for 2010 that includes those and foglights, but I do miss the isight and other assists that come with the new hatch. As mentioned awesome starter AWD and if you are in EU like me, LPG is a great option. I get 100 km for 5 usd or 62 miles for 5 usd, while on petrol I get around 24 MPG.

    Here’s a quick review for my 2018 manual hatch, the non led head lights are absolute trash. I live in a small town and we hardly have street lights. So I fixed that temporarily with some nicer bulbs. The arm rests get destroyed easily. Mines in perfect condition but I baby my car. My friends on the other hand has many dents from elbows and even on the driver side door it has some dents in the cloth/padding. Tons of plastic creeks I knew of this before I got the car but figured I’d get a few years before that pops up but nah lmao. I love it though. The dash seems to be a bigger dust magnet than any other car I’ve personally owned and I hardly have the windows down when driving. My friends the opposite and his 2018 is also builds up dust quickly on the dash. These cars are nothing more than an eco car, don’t plan on modding it, hardly anything exists so it’ll all have to be custom fab work. I did a nameless muffler delete on mine to make it feel more alive and it really helped it, it’s not any more powerful than before but the sound makes you feel like your driving a Subaru. I use Apple car play and hardly have any issues and when I do all I have to do is unplug my phone and plug it back in. I hardly if ever connect through Bluetooth so I can’t really speak on that personally, my friend with an android does have issues with his every now and then though. The manuals do slightly worse for mpgs than they say it does but it does get 30 mpg easy. I have a heavy foot and I still get 20 lowest but it’s usually around 27 mpg. The windshields are trash and you may end up having it crack within a few months of owning it, or if your like me and my friend, within the first month. I’d replace it with a thicker windshield if you don’t have Subaru eyesight. As I said before I baby my cars interior and exterior but the e brake leather has a hole in it not caused by me, I’m pretty sure someone at Subaru did it because I baby my car so much it doesn’t have any scratches on the ignition or the plastic around it, so I have a feeling it wasn’t me. The brakes squeak for the first few pumps when it’s under 65 f. Nothings wrong with them they work perfectly but it does make you question the quality. Overall I love my Subaru, it’s going to last me a long time, it sounds good, feels good, handles amazingly, the stereo in the base model lacks a bit but oh well I can easily replace speakers myself. But the interior I personally like other then the tan color, but the exterior could use something and maybe it’s just some sti accessories. I’m happy with my purchase, none of these are major problems and I enjoy the lovey sound of my Subaru each and every day. It has some decent popping when you rev it as well, speaking of which the manual rev hang is atrocious. But the clutch feels great and the steering feels really tight. Hope this helps give some insight into what it’s like owning the car for close to 2 years.

  • @steve9377
    @steve9377 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I test drove one of these about a month ago with the 5 speed manual. I'm not a speed demon or anything but it felt borderline unsafe to drive from the lack of power/acceleration. I knew it didn't have that much power before I test drove it but I figured 152hp would be more than adequate even having to power 4 wheels. I was really surprised. I almost had it floored in second gear and I was struggling to get it up to speed. I have owned quite a few slower cars including a 2008 and 2010 Toyota Yaris and after driving this thing, it was the first time I had to step away from a car purchase from a car being too slow.

    • @unwe2010
      @unwe2010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As an owner of 2010 you go with pushing to high RPM from first and flooring is not an option as it’s sluggish. It can go to 60 miles in less than 9, but you have to know the car very well... and yes downshifting in manual is a pain. If you want a more power wait for 2021 as I am sure they will bring back WRX S Ti with an hatch option as the market shifted back to hatches with bmw 1, amg, tyre r,Rs,R32 and etc.

    • @mossmiller
      @mossmiller 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 2013 4-door Limited, and I agree with you. When these engines are new they are sluggish. You have to get some miles on them and they open up nicely. The Impreza rides well and up here in the Northeast, you need that as the roads are junk. With Pirelli Winter Cinturatos, you can get through anything in these cars. In summer, with Pirelli P7 touring tires, fantastic in the rain and reasonably quiet on the road. The new models have Contis on them, and should be decent in all seasons. Finally, this is one of the few cars where you can install your own radio easily. Although the new factory infotainment system is much better than the junk they gave you back in '13, I prefer my classic Eclipse unit with built-in NAV.

    One thing I must say to prospective Impreza buyers is that you will NOT get the mpg’s as stated. I have a 2019 limited Impreza and my average between highway and city is 22.9 mpg which is much lower than advertised.
    I know a lot of other drivers on the Impreza 5 forums that are also not getting advertised mpg and I think that’s a big slight to Subaru. I drive this car like a baby and it should be straight forward.
    Otherwise great car! The upgraded Harmon Kardon speaker sounds a little trash because of the DSP that’s under the passenger seat so definitely test it at high volumes to see what I’m talking about.
    The seats could have much more thigh support for taller drivers and dual zone climate would be better than what’s available currently available. Also, the engine size is pitiful and it should at least come stock with a 2.5 liter or more.
    If I could do it again, I would spring a little more money for the WRX because the Impreza is just too slow to be any fun.

    I was looking at the Imprezza hatchbacks before I ended up buying my 2018 Mazda 3. I liked them both but the Mazda ended up winning due to the non-CVT automatic, a step up in quality, 'huskier' powertrain and driving feedback. Make no mistake though Subarus are fine vehicles in my opinion. You don't see too many in the south, especially Florida but when you head out west and to the north, they are over the place due to the standard AWD. I'd probably consider one as a second vehicle in the future.

      @@RaitisRides I do wonder, if it's easier to get a good deal on a Subaru in southern states, or do they end up being more expensive, or similarly priced based on smaller sales volume versus "snow belt" states. (FWIW, I've always enjoyed driving Mazda 3s, but their cargo capacity is dismal in comparison to similarly sized and priced vehicles from other manufacturers. I was kind of bummed when I realized that I couldn't easily fit my gear/family into most Mazda's because they do handle so well.)

You can use distilled water if tap has to much minerals in it. Make sure not to scrub hard or use abrasive tools on plastic or metal trim. Toothbrush works best.
