- We take the XP Deus 2 Metal Detector to Historic Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It is heavily hunted but when the Minelab Equinox came out, it highlighted treasure that was missed by other detectors. Can the XP Deus do the same thing?

Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. I am a treasure hunter. So in addition to metal detecting, I go mudlarking at sites such as Dead Horse Bay. Think of mudlarking as metal detecting without a metal detector.

As an old transplanted Brooklynite, (I moved to the Poconos 30yrs ago). I use to hunt Prospect park with a Whites CoinMaster detectors, back in the late 70s and early 80s. And that park is a Treasure Trove. I have a dozen or so Barber dimes, plenty of Mercs, and Roosies. A bag of Washington sliver quarters. My oldest coins out of that park are an 1887 Seated dime, an 1897 Barber dime, and a tiny Canadien 1893 5-cent piece. One Musket ball and a baseball size cannonball. Plus several gold and silver rings. That place will never be hunted out. Brought back fond memories.
One thing Gigmaster suggested, is using the spare Equinox screen protectors on the Deus 2 screen. You just have to make a cutout, but leave the “application” tab on the part you’re using.
Interesting! Thank you!
Perhaps the ring went through a lawn mover long ago.
Thanks Merrill. I appreciate the knowledge you share. I have learned so much following your videos.
Keep swinging and digging brother!
Killed it!! You and the Deus put in some serious work, sweet digs! Love your videos, thanks for sharing 🙌🏻
Nox fix: Shaft locking WD 40 and keep clean.
Broken coil lugs: Do not use the detector as a crutch or axe.
There is a detectorist on YT who uses an Equinox as a leaning prop while talking a lot. Has also complained some about broken coil lugs.
Go figure.
(No, not Merrill.) lol
Good job I enjoyed it you had some finds and thank you for sharing with us and good Luck to you.
How did I miss this video? Love my Deus2. Nice video showing the capability of this machine!
Nice job Merrill!!!! I’ve been doing well with my D2, it’s going head to head with my Nox on the beach next week
Another great review/comparison!
Nice job with the Deep full tones keep working with it you will find especially in trash that it will far surpress your equinox. The step that I've ventured onto right now is mastering the relic program it is a whole new beast and extremely powerful even deeper than deep HC, sometimes especially in medium to highly trashy areas it is hard to decipher targets but out in the open it is a killer the depth is extreme!
Amazing pulls Merril
Thank you!
Nice job !!
Great hunt! Excellent coin and relic finds. I just got a Deus II and have spent about thirty hours learning the machine (on the couch and in the backyard). Took it on one hunt for about two hours and found two clad coins in the Park mode. I've been metal detecting for the last ten years, using a Garret 300 and AT Pro. I am also a physicist and enjoy learning new technology. The Deus II is definitely among the latest in metal detector technology. Since I have a large pile of Wheat and Indian Head pennies, I am focusing my hunts on silver (VID ~ 90+ in the General Mode). I have found a gold wedding ring and returned it to the owner, a lot of clad, numerous artifacts, and silver coins. I am looking forward to your Target ID Bible Video, Target ID PDF, and Best Settings info. Thank you for the great content.
Those half dimes and trimes ring up like pennies, no where near 90.
But i do get what your saying.
Great job. Good information thank you💕👵
Lawnmower ring, that one! One day you'll find the other half! I just love how you find the Wheats... and IHP's - I hope you leave a few in the ground for me to find... when I eventually get to NYC!!
That ring is modern, 1/20 gold filled. See the 20 before 10k? Yunk and lawnmower bit. Btw, your VDI expose on the Legend has really helped me get more rings with the Legend, thanks bro!
The cut ring is from a lawn mower you should know that LOL
What a great hunt ! I have a nox but your videos are making me consider a deus 2! Keep up the great content!
Good morning from Uk, as usual on my way to work and stopped off at favourite American coffee shop (Maccy dees 🤣) and had a quick look at Utube and you popped up 😀😀 so forced to watch and got to 15.28 minutes and have to continue later, it’s so important to pin point as it will tell you the size of target, especially if it wire and elongated one way compared to other, tin cans will scream huge target and lifting coil will confirm it, oddly my Nox 800 the targets don’t disappear when out of ground but have found on XpD2 certain small targets disappear and can spend ten minutes trying to find it and means it’s just that tiny targets. Look at Sid program Uk 🇬🇧 as he’s made a fantastic program for XpD2 and it’s deep, can really hear the iron grunt and great separation, pitch tones take a lot of learning between ferrous and nonferrous so try PWM tones as but more width on the tone sound, the D2 would a told you iron on that three horse shoe 😀, I’ll be back later after work to see your progress 😀😀😀🥳🥳
Nice hunt Merrill, still plenty of old coins and relics in that park
Really like your videos wanting to know if you are going to review legend with the updates on the edge of buying a new detector
Got a story for you...Thugs took a guy to the park and beat him up. As he lay on the ground they shot him. They cut a ring from his finger but part of it got lost in the grass. Years later you found the bullet and the lost ring section. And the "horse shoe" thing looked like an oxen shoe to me. Great vido. Beginning to wish I'd have waited to shell out my Scheckels for an Equinox but, there's always a latest and greatest right around the corner I suppose.
i have had different scoops and handles, but i keep going back to my wooden handle been on this particular scoop for years never failed does not rot and it stands up straight in the water without any boyancy, perfect.
Just over halfway with those likes. And looks like I might be getting to NYC. Yippee!! Probably no time for detecting, but having a look around.
Nice finds, greetings from Chile.
Thank you so much!
One thing about you Merril you aren't a shallow person at all LMAO.
That D2 will give you 80’s signals on deep iron all day I’ve found but all of the signals will skip and more importantly change in some way when you turn on it. Unless it’s like a big iron washer or iron hoop it will be scratchy and skip.
That squeak is my knees when hunting
Someone one was "cutting up" in the park and their ring fell off? LOL
In heavy iron area's of Cleveland Metro Parks I am pulling out more silver and other coins with my D2 then my nox 800 and other detectors could hit in the same area's with nails and bottle caps in holes. Running Park mode with tone breaks at 7,89 set to 100 tone and 90-99 set on 800 tone (square tone) reac on 2 bottlecap 5 I like to pick the copper/clad/silver ..
Excellent hunt, but it really reminds me f your normal hunts with the equinox. Looks like a great machine though.
the D2 has 4/6 inches on the Equinox!! I have pulled wedding bands at 18inches!!!
Jeff, welcome to the Five-O club 🏋🏻♂️
Thank you! Still hoping someone does a comprehensive comparison on a farm field and a cellar hole location where there's a lot of iron.,
Next time you go to Prospect try this.......stay off the open fields and only do the surrounding paths 5 feet off on both sides for your entire hunt.....I know you will be pleasantly surprised on what you will find.....just slow down and find what others have overlooked by searching the most inviting areas such as the open fields....I look forward to seeing that video, good luck.
Dennis, can you please recommend any other comparable parks in Brooklyn or Queens or LI to check out? I understand nothing will be like Prospect but any decent spots? Ty
@@eugene4574 a large portion of thegreat lawn in Prospect was re-planted in the early 1980's and a lot of old silver was detected, but of course md'rs didn't have todays tech.......check out Owls Head and Sunset in Bklyn and Alley Pond,Astoria and Forest in Queens.....bigger and older sites are your prime locations.....just swing very slow, you have no idea how many good targets are overlooked because detectorists rely on the recovery speed of their detector......remember....a wheat penny, buffalo nik and silver quarter spill in the same hole can ring up as a penny or even a mid tone.....do your research on every park in Bklyn and Queens,it pays off
Mexican pizza is back? Gotta find me a ring. .... that deus almost sounds like a V3i in programming capabilities...... I like v nickels too!
Good job Merrill, thanks for the info on the Mexican pizza!
Heck with Mexican pizza being back frosted grape pop tarts are supposedly out there.
Hey Merrill! A suggestion for the next time you and Jeff get out to hunt. One of you use the Legend and the other the Deus 2 and check each other's signals to see how they compare on depth and signal quality. I think it would be an interesting video.
You have my LIKE Merrill.
I like your videos, and I do believe you have your rankings correct. I previously used a nox 600 and now most recently have been using the legend. I haven’t , at least in areas I hunt, have found that there is much difference between it and the nox. I know with nox it’s build quality and problems with emi are issues. I have no problems with either of those in the legend. As far as real digs, like in your video, I am pulling just as much as deep or deeper than what I saw in this video. I never used the deus 2 , and perhaps it is deeper in test garden and separation is better, but is it 1,000.00 better? I think your right that it really isn’t knocking it out of the park like the equinox did as a new detector
Mexican Pizza is unlocked!
Maybe cut buy a mower on that half ring 💍?
Try square tones in the park since you are used to those tones with the nox
Your killing me with the Deus ll videos
Ok. I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet and spend the Hawaii markup prices to try out the majesty of the Mexican Pizza. 🤙
I just got a XP Deus II…
It works great so far with the exception of the headphones. They can be very uncomfortable to wear. The plastic feels cheap with sharp edges. Especially irritating when wearing sunglasses.
Would be nice if they offered a different style of headphones with the package.
I think that they only deserve 4/5 on ergonomics.
Thanks for the great content Merrill.
Half a ring probably a mower 👍🦀
For a park that has been hit every weekend for decades there is still a lot of coins left to dig. 😀.
Jimmy Hoffa:s ring
I will say that the other day me and a friend hunted an old home site, my friend uses Nox 800, I used DEUS II I got a wheat cent and as I dug I used pinpointer, and pulled a nail out, and below was a wheat penny. Not saying much but shocked me actually… I dug 2 wheats and an old compact… my friend got nothing 🤷🏼♂️
Merrill i was watching couple of your vids from 9 years ago 👌 How young you looked 😅 👍🏽🍺Also look up metal detectorists vs Annoying people you'll have a good laugh 🍺
I will! Lol you must have found my art channel!
@@MetalDetectingNYC I've ONLY been watching for 3 YEARS... Love you BRO... NO CHUOMO
Well it wouldn’t be plated. It’s gonna be 10k gold filled where the rest of the info was on the other half (probably found by diggin duo). Maybe it said 1/10 or 1/20 or even rolled gold. I think it just got nailed by the mower.
Lawn mower hit it when first lost.
That answered my question,no thanks I'll stick to my xlt spectrum
Finger swelled up and causing great pain! Just cut it off before you lose your finger! Nice detector but out of my price range, like everything else lol!
I find 1-1.5ft targets with my SIMPLEX and SNIPER COIL in park 2 mode... I ONLY use park 2 mode... IT'S way better then Park 1 IMO
Wonder has anyone found the rest of the horse ?
V nickel has got to unlock something?
Is that 11 inch coil?
Yesq
Why does the sound of low flying planes in NYC freaks me out so much.?
Merrill you asked for a thousand likes, but you deserve much more. I have given you a like. But how do I "vote twice". Like three or more likes? How about a dozen. I am willing to do same. Please advise..
That’s gold Filled don’t toss it
You cut the ring
👽🍻
Not a medically cut off ring
Always thought Prospect Park was off limits , remember a lawsuit, by detectorist
That ring is heavy tarnished it's 10k....I have dug up rings more tarnished than that one!!!!
maybe they had to cut the ring off and they dropped it out of their pocket.
What's up with dogstar blazer? Your friend isn't making any utube videos......I know I should be asking him
He is focusing on Instagram: instagram.com/dogstar_blazer/?hl=en
@@MetalDetectingNYC thanks
Cut ring...emergency surgery removal?
🤔 That's funny.... You're starting to sound like Dilek Gonulay, but you don't look like her!!!🙄 (😝😂😆)
Easy. Lawnmower hit it close to the time it was dropped
Cut ring in a park in NYC? Fuhgedaboutit.
Love your videos but to much talking
Lots of talk and other things during the entire video and not enough detecting. I tune in to these vids to see detecting rather than a super closeup of your face. On to the next vid. SEEYA.
Merrill is a teacher and this is his style. He is detecting and also teaching at the same time. No other You Tube detecting channel gives you the info you get here. Anyone can detect and get lucky. With Merrill's videos, he explores the nuances of the detector enabling you to have more success on your hunts. So if you don't care to learn anything, then move on.
TRUTH IS WEIRDER THAN SPECULATION, PROBABLY CUT BY THE MOWER?!, IT LOOKS TORN.
GOD BLESS.
