Finally got the Booster Pass myself and I wanted to play Pauline, was delighted to see that one of my favorites (the Pipe Frame) is already really good with her! From there I can tweak to whatever suits me and I've found a good-looking combo that still keeps me at that 14 mini-turbo golden range. Been loving the way that combo feels! There's another hidden stat that's *extremely* important, called Tolerance. It's your ability to put up with multiple consecutive losses in the same online lobby without hurling your joycons at the monitor. Unlike most stats, this is one you want to find a healthy middle-ground with; a lot of the time, leaving and joining a new lobby is all you really need to stop your losing streak. However, being a petty little a-hole is annoying.
That stat also has a substat that determines what you count as a "win" or a "loss", like some low-tolerance people tick out for not getting first a few times in a row, other low-tolerance people might only tick out when for example they get 7th or worse, or lose VR, a couple times in a row.
I can actually disprove this. As a Petey main, I have dodged several bananas simply by looking ahead and moving out the way like any other character would.

Yes you're right! But practically speaking, they never had the same stats because the teddy buggy's hitbox is smaller, and hitbox functions as a stat. I think the difference is so small that you generally shouldn't worry about their stat differences.

@@steveco75 Players who say Teddy Buggy is better are valuing Hitbox more than Invincibility, as those are the only gameplay differences between Teddy Buggy and Cat Cruiser. That said, Cat Cruiser is *MUCH* cuter, thus I agree with you that Cat Cruiser is better.

Ive recently found your channel as well. Im glad that ive fount this video exists, but im throwing in that its ok to play what feels natural to you. I play inkling, rocket bike or ancient cycle, azure roller or monster wheels, and parachute. That combo was something i was able to handle naturally compared to some other combos that exist. Its not the best compared to real players, but its good for casual gameplay.
im a total mario kart noob, i used to play it on the ds a lot back in the day but thats about it. i got mario kart 8 from a friend a few days ago and im a HUGE yoshi fan (i like cute characters) so i always played yoshi on the teddy bear thing or on the vespa bc it's so so cute. i joined online races and i saw a lot of people also playing yoshi teddy combo and i was genuinely convinced everyone played it cause of its cuteness. at best i figured it was bc of the high acceleration (generally how i pick). i didnt think it was mario kart meta LMAO
Its funny because in Wii, an similar thing happened there with Funky Kong, i always though for years that everyone picked him because he was the coolest, but then recently realized it was because of meta

As for me and my friend, we're eternally forced to use the GLA. We've got an ongoing joke where whenver we play we use the GLA, and if someone wins using the GLA, we then say GLA sweep. If we played more often, then I'm sure the joke would've died by now, but we play infrequently enough to where the joke still ends up being relevant.

Going from roller to button, you sacrifice 1 accel for 1 antigravity speed *bonus*. Going from yoshi to luigi, you sacrifice 1 accel for no strict gain. So yes, yoshi teddy button would be better than luigi teddy roller (marginally), mainly because yoshi is better than luigi!
Great analysis! Yeah, I've noticed playing in Regional online lobbies, more often than not, there is a greater diversity of combinations so the meta definitely isn't required. Though, in the Worldwide lobbies, you're almost forced to go meta as they seem to be way more competitive in general. I'm a more casual Mario Karter and my favorite vehicle combo is Pipe Frame/regular tires/Cloud Glider mainly just due to how it looks. It plays fine with most characters. I usually just use my track knowledge and item management with whatever character combo I feel like playing. 😅

Loved your explanation. I personally use *Rosalina + Comet + GLA Tires + Cloud Glider* Rosalina is my favourite character and this combo actually looks like a real racing bike, while also being excellent for bagging and mixed gameplay (probably one of the best bagging combos) and still good for frontrunning. I'm an Inside Drift enjoyer, but when I want to use Outside Drift I go with Teddybuggy. Your suggested combo for Rosalina seems really cool and I looked at the stats. Seems very good for me and I'll try it! Maybe it will be my new main for Outside Drift.
I always thought the princesses in their biker outfits were way superior, in fact as a kid I refused to put the princesses in karts because I disliked the fact that they were racing in dresses as a daisy player I was glad to hear that the combo that I use was actually good 😅

I'm going to forever represent my Koopa Sport Bike Wooden Tires Super Glider combo as a runner. It was the first combo I used in Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, carried me through trials and online, and continued to kick ass for me in Deluxe. It's my combo, and I *wreak havoc* with it.
I really wish we had gotten a buff to make some other wheels equal to the rollers. They look so gross! Do you think that was the FINAL update to Mario Kart? If so, how do you feel about the item roulette changes?
Wave 5 did buff the other tires, so at least they're not unviable, just worse than roller and button. I'm not sure about the item roulette changes. I like that bagging is nerfed but i don't fully understand how this works now and what items i should expect to get

Hi Shortcat, Ive been looking at twd mkwii videos and Ive heard him say that speed is the most important stat in that game. But from mk8d videos mini turbo is the best stat, why is speed better in mkwii and miniturbo better in mk8d?
im not shortcat but a decent player of mk8dx mini turbo and acceleration are very similair stats in this game and so when you get hit you need to be able to get to top speed as much as possible and better mini turbo stat will make your mini turbo last for longer and i was a mkwii player before mk8dx so since stand still mini turbos are in mkwii that makes speed the best stat but since they dont exist in mk8dx mini turbo is the best so if they existed in mk8dx speed would be the best stat
Peachette, Flame Rider, Crimson Slim, and Peach Parasol is the best combo because it's the one I'm only using forever (except for Yoshi's Island 150cc I need to redo that at some point)
I think its also worth noting that the old waluigi wiggler vs biddy situation does still exist even now. While teddy is the favoured combo by most, inkstriker held on for a very long time as a contender(1 speed more, 1 mini turbo less) for best combo and even now still sometimes sees play. I do think its an interesting parallel and the fact inkstriker held on for so long as the prefered choice for many shows that it truly is a mind set and meta choice
I never knew i was picking a decent combo with babies and the biddybuggy. My brother always said it was bad because it doesnt have the speed stat but i just pick it because it's cute
One of my favorites now is Male Villager, Inkstriker, Leaf Tires and Paper Glider. Just has a really good feel to it. Kamek, Azure Rollers, Pipeframe, Cloud Glider is also one of my favorites too and finally Yoshi, Biddybuggy, Azure Rollers and Cloud Glider. So many fun combos.
Hey I’m a Mario Karter myself and to be honest this is helping me a lot although it doesn’t really matter sense I don’t have online but it’s still really helpful and makes me better than I was so all I have left to say is…thank you and that you’re the best Mario Kark player I’ve ever seen on my life ^^
Can I just say how much I like the way you’ve organized the spreadsheet? First, in addition to having the S-tier-stat total and A-tier-stat total columns, the individual stats are such that the two S-tier stats are adjacent and come first, and the two A-tier-relevant stats are also adjacent. This makes it much easier to compare the stats within a tier when making any trade-offs. Second, the top-speed stats are all grouped together, as are the handling stats, and both groups have the same internal ordering. It definitely improves readability. Third, the stats are colored so that good stats are greener, mid stats are yellower, and bad stats are redder. This makes it much easier to tell at a glance how good a given character/part is with that stat. With that said, I do think there are a few changes I would make. First, most of the information in the info sheet could probably fit into one of the other sheets. Namely, the character sheet could have a column at the end that says whether they drive a small, medium, or large kart; the vehicle sheet could have a column that states whether or not it uses inside drift; and the wheel sheet could have a column that states whether or not it bounces. It’s easier to compare two parts when all the relevant info for those parts is on one sheet rather than having to cross-reference them. Second, I would have put a column in the vehicle sheet stating whether it’s a kart, bike, or ATV. The three kinds of vehicles do feel different when using them, so it’d be nice to be able to have that information available. Third, despite mentioning visibility and hitbox as relevant considerations, even if not terribly high priority, nothing in the workbook gives any information on them. I can understand that they’re a bit more touchy-feely and qualitative rather than quantifiable and specifically coded into the game, but even something like low, medium, or high visibility and small, medium, or large hitbox would be helpful. Heck, just put something about it into that Info sheet I mentioned earlier. Fourth, the way invincibility is shown is kinda annoying. Like, I know you had parts that have the same stats for everything else grouped together for convenience, and invincibility isn’t terribly important, but I feel like it would have been better to just split parts that differ in Invincibility just like you do for every other stat rather than have multiple columns for Invincibility, especially since you don’t do that for any other stat. Fifth, and this is even more of a nitpick than the other stuff I brought up, but I would have put Weight somewhere to the right of the Handling stats. Weight often seems like a suggestion in practice, anyways, and it has zero relevance in Time Trials unlike literally every other stat (besides Invincibility, perhaps), so it seems like something that should be ordered later than the more relevant stats. Finally, and this is more of a fun suggestion than a criticism or even a nitpick, but I think it would have been neat if the combos sheet had one combination for each stat that is the best in that particular stat. It wouldn’t necessarily be practical, of course, but it would be kinda fun for challenges!
The most important stat is the hidden fashion stat, where you never really lose because you’ll simply always out-style the competition

Ive recently found your channel as well. Im glad that ive fount this video exists, but im throwing in that its ok to play what feels natural to you. I play inkling, rocket bike or ancient cycle, azure roller or monster wheels, and parachute. That combo was something i was able to handle naturally compared to some other combos that exist. Its not the best compared to real players, but its good for casual gameplay.

im a total mario kart noob, i used to play it on the ds a lot back in the day but thats about it. i got mario kart 8 from a friend a few days ago and im a HUGE yoshi fan (i like cute characters) so i always played yoshi on the teddy bear thing or on the vespa bc it's so so cute. i joined online races and i saw a lot of people also playing yoshi teddy combo and i was genuinely convinced everyone played it cause of its cuteness. at best i figured it was bc of the high acceleration (generally how i pick). i didnt think it was mario kart meta LMAO

Going from roller to button, you sacrifice 1 accel for 1 antigravity speed *bonus*. Going from yoshi to luigi, you sacrifice 1 accel for no strict gain. So yes, yoshi teddy button would be better than luigi teddy roller (marginally), mainly because yoshi is better than luigi!
Great analysis! Yeah, I've noticed playing in Regional online lobbies, more often than not, there is a greater diversity of combinations so the meta definitely isn't required. Though, in the Worldwide lobbies, you're almost forced to go meta as they seem to be way more competitive in general.
I'm a more casual Mario Karter and my favorite vehicle combo is Pipe Frame/regular tires/Cloud Glider mainly just due to how it looks. It plays fine with most characters. I usually just use my track knowledge and item management with whatever character combo I feel like playing. 😅

I personally use *Rosalina + Comet + GLA Tires + Cloud Glider*
Rosalina is my favourite character and this combo actually looks like a real racing bike, while also being excellent for bagging and mixed gameplay (probably one of the best bagging combos) and still good for frontrunning.
I'm an Inside Drift enjoyer, but when I want to use Outside Drift I go with Teddybuggy.
Your suggested combo for Rosalina seems really cool and I looked at the stats. Seems very good for me and I'll try it! Maybe it will be my new main for Outside Drift.

I always thought the princesses in their biker outfits were way superior, in fact as a kid I refused to put the princesses in karts because I disliked the fact that they were racing in dresses

I'm going to forever represent my Koopa Sport Bike Wooden Tires Super Glider combo as a runner. It was the first combo I used in Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, carried me through trials and online, and continued to kick ass for me in Deluxe. It's my combo, and I *wreak havoc* with it.

Wave 5 did buff the other tires, so at least they're not unviable, just worse than roller and button. I'm not sure about the item roulette changes. I like that bagging is nerfed but i don't fully understand how this works now and what items i should expect to get

Hi Shortcat, Ive been looking at twd mkwii videos and Ive heard him say that speed is the most important stat in that game. But from mk8d videos mini turbo is the best stat, why is speed better in mkwii and miniturbo better in mk8d?
im not shortcat but a decent player of mk8dx mini turbo and acceleration are very similair stats in this game and so when you get hit you need to be able to get to top speed as much as possible and better mini turbo stat will make your mini turbo last for longer and i was a mkwii player before mk8dx so since stand still mini turbos are in mkwii that makes speed the best stat but since they dont exist in mk8dx mini turbo is the best so if they existed in mk8dx speed would be the best stat

I think its also worth noting that the old waluigi wiggler vs biddy situation does still exist even now. While teddy is the favoured combo by most, inkstriker held on for a very long time as a contender(1 speed more, 1 mini turbo less) for best combo and even now still sometimes sees play. I do think its an interesting parallel and the fact inkstriker held on for so long as the prefered choice for many shows that it truly is a mind set and meta choice

One of my favorites now is Male Villager, Inkstriker, Leaf Tires and Paper Glider. Just has a really good feel to it. Kamek, Azure Rollers, Pipeframe, Cloud Glider is also one of my favorites too and finally Yoshi, Biddybuggy, Azure Rollers and Cloud Glider. So many fun combos.

Can I just say how much I like the way you’ve organized the spreadsheet?
First, in addition to having the S-tier-stat total and A-tier-stat total columns, the individual stats are such that the two S-tier stats are adjacent and come first, and the two A-tier-relevant stats are also adjacent. This makes it much easier to compare the stats within a tier when making any trade-offs.
Second, the top-speed stats are all grouped together, as are the handling stats, and both groups have the same internal ordering. It definitely improves readability.
Third, the stats are colored so that good stats are greener, mid stats are yellower, and bad stats are redder. This makes it much easier to tell at a glance how good a given character/part is with that stat.
With that said, I do think there are a few changes I would make.
First, most of the information in the info sheet could probably fit into one of the other sheets. Namely, the character sheet could have a column at the end that says whether they drive a small, medium, or large kart; the vehicle sheet could have a column that states whether or not it uses inside drift; and the wheel sheet could have a column that states whether or not it bounces. It’s easier to compare two parts when all the relevant info for those parts is on one sheet rather than having to cross-reference them.
Second, I would have put a column in the vehicle sheet stating whether it’s a kart, bike, or ATV. The three kinds of vehicles do feel different when using them, so it’d be nice to be able to have that information available.
Third, despite mentioning visibility and hitbox as relevant considerations, even if not terribly high priority, nothing in the workbook gives any information on them. I can understand that they’re a bit more touchy-feely and qualitative rather than quantifiable and specifically coded into the game, but even something like low, medium, or high visibility and small, medium, or large hitbox would be helpful. Heck, just put something about it into that Info sheet I mentioned earlier.
Fourth, the way invincibility is shown is kinda annoying. Like, I know you had parts that have the same stats for everything else grouped together for convenience, and invincibility isn’t terribly important, but I feel like it would have been better to just split parts that differ in Invincibility just like you do for every other stat rather than have multiple columns for Invincibility, especially since you don’t do that for any other stat.
Fifth, and this is even more of a nitpick than the other stuff I brought up, but I would have put Weight somewhere to the right of the Handling stats. Weight often seems like a suggestion in practice, anyways, and it has zero relevance in Time Trials unlike literally every other stat (besides Invincibility, perhaps), so it seems like something that should be ordered later than the more relevant stats.
Finally, and this is more of a fun suggestion than a criticism or even a nitpick, but I think it would have been neat if the combos sheet had one combination for each stat that is the best in that particular stat. It wouldn’t necessarily be practical, of course, but it would be kinda fun for challenges!
