I would be interested to see how 10 watts compares to 5.
Nice work testing how analog holds up. I have the AKK Race Ranger on one of my ground vehicles, it's ok... Haven't touched that project in a while tho.
Have you compared signal if you are standing on the roof? 😉

Not much point using a directional antenna if you're going to drive around the whole block but keep your antenna pointed in the same direction -- it needs to be tracking the transmitter's position... otherwise most of the time it's just the omni doing the work. When you start losing signal you should turn your head to peak the reception by making sure the directional antenna is facing in the optimal direction.
A good 10dB directional antenna is the equivalent of using 10x the transmitter power -- so long as it's pointed in the right direction.
Hey Bruce! It’s one of those instances where the house being right next to me kind of nullifies any gains from the directional, because of the direction I want to travel. The house is pretty much always right in the way, but it’s still the best spot to get around the backstreets.
I have a very sensitive ClearView receiver (-107db iirc) and could set that up on my roof with an antenna tracker, but 99% of people will never go to that extent. I was just trying to get a solid explanation in during the review 🤙
@@ChaddRainsFPV Even more reason to make sure your antenna is pointed at the model -- you'll lose a bunch of signal with your house in the way but the gain of the antenna will compensate for that. High is good too 🙂
I've seen setups where people had monitors in their office with flightsticks and could go hundreds of miles with long-range FPV planes.
Analog offers more flexibility. You can design this setup for whatever situation. It's how much you want to spend. Analog can far exceed digital. But you are talking about an extreme setup.
I was surprised to see in another video that the 10 seems to actually output what it says and somehow doesn't overheat using only the blower. IDK if I'd ever try over the 5 though, I mean it did hold up pretty well. I'm not saying you shouldn't though 😅. I don't think practical range can really be explained in the way people want and it has to be experienced over time in different locations etc. I mean I guess it can be summarized easily enough if the circumstances are standing in flat open plains for miles but that's not realistic for most people. For me analog was also a struggle of just wanting to see clear video the whole time cause of being paranoid, but figure it's a great alternative to digital if the location is something you know well and there are no hazards etc.. can really push it with no worries I guess. I used to see some dudes going super far but then catch a video of their live feed and they are driving with like 5% visibility and I'm like "how?"
Like I've seen dudes drive through where you turned around at, like their eyes and brains have just been trained to learn maneuverability with such low visibility or something. I'd have called it quits long before that. Alternatively, I used to see videos of dudes in the AIR and it seemed like they were losing visibility just going out in an opening too far and I'm like "how?"
I'm kind of biased against AKK for stiffing me on a 1.2g I broke down and bought like close to a year ago lol but I have to admit the big boy 5.8g's do look well made. Apparently audio works decent on them as well. When you have that audio, and you add at least one more camera like on the rear, it basically changes the game making analog a contender even after all of these digital releases.
It’s so hard to explain range and it seems like it’s asked about so much. Gave it my best shot on this video lol. I definitely can’t switch back to analog but at the end of the day I realize the majority of FPV is still done on analog, vs any other one system. If I never tried digital I would be pumped to get this kind of range lol.
I really should try out the mic on these. I heard RapidFire modules don’t come with any audio ability anymore so it’s getting harder to even use that now
@@ChaddRainsFPV I never tried rapidfire but now that I think about it I'm not so sure how I'd go about audio without the one module that was giving it to me. I think the Steadyview module but IDK how it really compares to rapidfire.
I think TBS Fusion is best and I’m pretty sure it has audio. RapidFire is basically the same but the receivers in the Fusion module are a hair more sensitive. I’m just using RapidFire cuz I’ve had it forever lol
Ive witnessed 5.8 analog hit 20 miles on 2 watts.
For sure, I think the record for 20 miles is like 25mw. 🤙

I literally call the fan on my vtx a 'chadd rains'. What?! you ask, heres an example "I got my vtx mounted but still gotta get the Chadd Rains on it"
You should give the 1.2ghz vtx stuff a try. I’m running elrs 900mhz for rc link and the range and performance is incredible, believe I’ll be doing a fixed wing of some sort with the Geprc maten 1.2ghz 2W vtx
I have a huge amount of 1.3ghz noise in my area. I’d love to finish my ground station video but I can’t bring myself to “show off” my other rigs when they perform so bad compared to all the other options (I know it’s just a ‘high noise floor’ issue in my area) 🤙

It’s kind of wild that just now all the sudden, all these manufacturers decided it’s time to release crazy powerful VTXs haha. I’m sure Foxeer makes a solid one 🤙

Fair. But in all honesty I thought the range was super impressive, and the fact it was the less powerful version made it even more-so. I do plan to test the Alpha 10 but will also have my receiver on top of my roof, to give it a chance to get around that far block 👍

Making an analog relay is still on my list of fun things to try. Analog really has a everything going for it except image quality. Analpg image quality is fine for crawlers and trail rc also i could go for it on track cars.
I had the wind blown out of my sails with the relay, cuz my area sucks for 1.3ghz and that’s what I wanted to use. I’d def point people your way if you can do some 1.3 stuff!
@@ChaddRainsFPV Dude did you ever get any insight into what the actual problem with 1.3 is for you. Is it just fresnel zone issues?
I remember after trying a Lawmate receiver I had much better signal, it just still wasn't what I wanted. I even started scanning with an SDR and stuff like that.. seemed relatively noiseless around me.

@@ChaddRainsFPV That's kind of what I thought after looking up what might be occupying that space near me. Nothing showed up in a scan though. You're probably right in your case but for me it's still a mystery. I also tried a 900Mhz tx I saw online and it was way worse.
I was driving the Avatar GT around earlier and it was getting some pretty good range cause I mounted the receiver high on the 2nd floor with long power and HDMI cords. Only downside is not being able to access the controls on it without modding it to have super long extension buttons in parallel or something.
I know technically you can do that with DJI also but I remember some decent lag using the app. Could have just been my phone. I got this 15 inch USB powered screen for when I'm in my car and it's pretty legit being able to easily drive it like that without goggles.
