  • Akk recently released some extremely high powered VTX's, going all the way up to 10W. So it only seemed reasonable that I'd have to try one out (actually 2, as I also had the 5W version)

    As you say, power isn't always the answer. Propagation characteristics of radio signals at specific frequencies are not going to change just because you are 'shouting louder'.
    3GHz and 10GHz are used for maritime radars as they love to bounce off objects. Our VHF sets are supposed to be used at 1W for everything except emergency comms (25W). The propagation difference between those modes is barely discernable. The reason you have a higher power option is to try to drown out interference (other transmissions on the same frequency), it isn't suddenly going to start acting like an MF/HF signal.

    I wonder if your home arrow was having issues because you were unable to go directly forward to begin with. • Notes from Betaflight…..without a compass, the quad 'learns' the heading of the quad from the direction of travel over ground from data provided by the GPS. The craft must be travelling at least 1-2m/s, in clean nose-forward flight, for at least several seconds, before its attitude can be correctly determined from GPS data alone. Always fly dead-straight after take-off, in clean pitch forward flight. If it is windy, fly directly into the wind, or directly with the wind, so that the flight path over ground matches the orientation of the quad.
    Check that the arrow rotates and points to home after short period of straight flying like this.
    Typically some 30-50m distance is required. If not, return, power cycle and try again.

      Yeah - I kind of read it. Obviously BF wasn't ever designed to run on a car, and I wonder if simply adding a compass will give a proper direction. Which I might try on the 1.2G setup

      @@CurryKitten I was wondering if you could just push the car along or hold it in your arms for the first couple of metres in a really straight line, and see if the accuracy is improved maybe? Worth a try before you swap out to one with a compass.

    The best option for ground vehicles, analog vídeo is 1.3ghz and ELRS 915mhz. Using This set up I can get about 1km range . On the ground 10W 5.8ghz with obstacles it's the same of 5W or 3W. Of course digital has pretty good range but maybe not the same of 1.3 analog

    @CurryKitten yes, BF AIO works!
    Have a look at some of my vidoes, where I used a BF AIO to provide the arming signal to the Vista and O3 on my EDF and plane.
    Kinda expensive way to use an AIO for just for the arming but it works!
    I previously used it on my 64mm Rafale with BF AIO and Vista (crashed and burned last year) and recently my PA-18 Super Cub with BF AIO and O3. Had an 80mm F/A-18 with Inav with O3 but removing it and just using a BF AIO soon.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Interesting - so the Vista & O3 need an arming signal... to presumably start recording. There's a setting in Walksnail where you don't need a signal - I figured DJI would at least do the same. I have to say, that if you are going to put an FC in your planes for doing the arming, you might as well run iNav and have some decent OSD & flight modes? Whilst I find iNav a pain for rovers, it's pretty easy for plane setup

    • @velocistafpv
      @velocistafpv 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CurryKittenI’m new to Inav but it is more of a pain to fit the large Inav stack in a plane and getting the CG right with all the camera, gimbals etc, unless it is an AIO (not many AIOs are supported by Inav unfortunately).
      What I found so far, the Vista can be powered without a signal (just turn off the low power mode option) but the O3 would need a signal (or get a Seeeduino to provide the signal but no OSD). Also, not all Inav OSD items are supported by the O3. So currently, I’m now using an O3 which gets signal from a BetaFPV SuperP 14Ch ELRS via a cheapish GEPRC G4 AIO.

    BF needs to travel in a straight line at a certain speed before that arrow works. Not sure the minimum m/sec but a car should be able to do it.

    • @CurryKitten
      @CurryKitten  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah - I'd read this and thought I have enough speed to do it. The GPS I'm using actually does have a compass in it (although not wired) but I'll have to check if betaflight will actually use it for the home arrow

    @currykitten, nice video. But it's not for me because of analog.
    Is there a way to do the same but with DJI digital products? (i own a set of goggles 3)
    Maybe mount a DJI Neo on the roof and test if that is a great way to have a mini drone and a ground FPV performer?

      I understand. I was out flying yesterday and flew 2 analog quads before flying on Walksnail. It's when i wondered to myself why I was still flying analog :D Yep - just stick a DJI/WalkSnail/etc on the car and go that way. Again, I wouldn't expect particularly different results as 5.8Ghz has issues penetrating stuff like trees but the view would be a lot clearer

    Just a quick question? Why did you not mount the camera on a type of tower on top of the vehicle? That way you can see more of the ground you’re about to traverse in front of you rather than a “ Mouse In A Cornfield” viewing perspective?🤷🏻‍♂️
