"No matter how ambitious the living strive, we will never be gods. But in the pursuit of that power it is frightening how easily we can become something inhuman." Oi, that's a good one.
Thank you! This is actually one of my favorite lore videos because of the message behind the conclusion, but it's definitely one of the most overlooked of the bunch. I always try to write the ending to be very meaningful in all my lore videos. I'm glad you enjoyed it and that parts of it resonated with you.
TerraMantis It's obvious you put more than a lot in your work. The meaning behind that makes it plenty more intresting. And I definitely find this a better way to learn a tale. I'm curious; do you have documents in which you write these down in (like gdocs files), and if not: do you know of a good place to read such work?
Excellent production, I love the concept of your perspective series, and through the eyes of Quelana. Such an important character, as the mother of Pyromancy, she really does have a massive effect throughout all of Lordran and beyond. On another note, I love the way you set up the various scenes in your videos - such as Gwyn's meeting with The Witch of Izalith. Fantastic.
chaselearkendall Thank you for the kind words and sharing the content, it's greatly appreciated. Regarding my builds or how I capture, I play on an Xbox 360 and, yes, it's all legit footage. I have 9 of the 10 character slots filled and I've beaten the game roughly 17 times in the last few months to get the shots required to make my lore series. That being said, I will not be playing DS2 on XB because I have recently bought a PS4 and I got a PS3 as well to make the switch from Xbox LIVE to Playstation Plus. So, maybe I'll see you in Drangleic. \o/
angusrokks1 I am going to release a video informing everyone on exactly what they can expect to see from me for DS2 in the future. The short answer is yes, I'm going to do a lore series. The part most people may not want to hear is that it's going to be months from now, after I'm very familiar with the game. I'm going to do a review first, a farming/boss strategy guide and then lore. Don't expect to see the first lore episode from me until the beginning of May. It will definitely come though.
Totally dug this video! Came here from DaveControlLive's channel. Fascinating take on the subject. Very nice direction, editing, and sound. I second DCL with really liking the way you staged the Gwyn/Witch of Izalith meeting - well played! I'm excited to catch up on your other lord videos!
i honestly believe your videos are some of the best videos on youtube. they send tingles down my spine. thank you so much for putting such a crazy amount of effort into these. you are a prime example of why i love the dark souls community. has anyone else noticed that lots of dark souls players have perfect voices for commentary? TerraMantis, Vaatividya, EpicNameBro, Vageta311....
Holy cow was this video amazing. You successfully made me feel empathy for Quelana and the rest of the witches with a powerful narrative and filmed scenes from a video game! (A video game for crying out loud!) All I can say is well done, sir. You should be very proud of your efforts. I'm still totally confused that this video only has 8,000 views because this has been the best interpretation/presentation of lore on TH-cam. Maybe someone like EpicNameBro or VaatiVidya could give these videos a shout out because quite frankly, you deserve it! P.S. I thought the Artorias video made me feel feels but this one is on a whole new level P.P.S. Keep making more! That goes for Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2! (And maybe some Demon's Souls ;)) Sincerely, a brand new subscriber/(maybe) biggest fan
Thanks a lot, I truly appreciate it. I'm not even on ENB's radar and Vaati has given me a shout out on Twitter a few times as well as a like on his main channel for my Gwyndolin video when it first released. I really only had about 3 Dark Souls videos at the time so it didn't generate too much viewership, but it was a greatly appreciated gesture nonetheless. That being said, I will keep doing what I'm doing and I'm happy you enjoy the videos so much. Sadly, I doubt I'll ever cover Demon's Souls, but I did just pay off my Collector's Edition for DS2 the other day so you can expect a lot of content for that. As for Dark Souls 1, I just finished the script for Havel/Seath and my final 10 Things video, after those it's a Gwyn video and the Legends of Lordran series is over. Luckily DS2 will be released shortly after I've finished the series. Sincerely, happy you found my channel =)
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoy them =) My game capture device broke about a week (and some change) ago, they're normally $180 which I couldn't afford a new one but I ordered one on Cyber Monday for about $99. I'll have it by the 10th according to my estimated delivery date. I hope you can wait =) I think my next lore video is my favorite one yet and it's on a character that (to the best of my knowledge) has never been covered -- Manus.
Man, amazing videos! I´ve started playing Dark Souls again and your videos have helped me immensely in understanding the lore of this gem of a game. Thanks so much!
Rafael Reynante Well Dark Souls 3 might reference that Bloodborne was made after Dark Souls 3, lore-wise. Slave Knight Gael hunts down the Dark Soul to give to the Painter to make a new world, but Gael was no champion and knew it would corrupt him. He became beast-like, ate the Dark Souls out of the Pygmy Lords and then came for yours. Once you slay him however, you're given his Soul, covered in the Abyss from the looks of it and the Blood of the Dark Souls. Since you brought no Dark Soul back, you instead bring the Blood of the Dark Soul to the Painter and she uses it to paint a new world. What if the Old Blood from Bloodborne is really the Blood of the Dark Soul from Dark Souls 3.
I have been on youtube for about 2 or 3 years now... in that time I have seen at least 2000 videos. in that time I have liked maybe 20 or thirty videos. It only took me 30 seconds to decide that this video belonged on that list
I'm speechless, this is amazing. I'm so proud to say that dark souls is my favorite game. So proud to say that I've invested so many hours and money with the design works book, collectors edition for 1 & 2. (Which I cannot wait for! And I saw that you just finished your payments for your collectors edition so you feel my excitement! I bought mine all at once, the guy at GameStop was like what the fuck? Haha.) Im so happy you put this much work into these videos, it makes my heart warm knowing people love this game as mug as I do (not many of my friends like it as much as we do) Truly amazing content. And how do you get most of it? Do you have a bunch of different character builds or something? That would take ages! Or do you have a large group of friends that cosplay their characters as other characters? Either way I see the effort in your videos and I greatly appreciate them. Definitely earning a sun and a share to my fb. (Not much but, yeah) and what do you play on? If ps3, I hope to meet you one day in an invasion either ds1 or 2. Praise the sun!
I feel like im getting a lecture by a professor of Dark Souls at the Univeristy of Cambridge lol fantastic as always man, i've recomended a lot of people to your channel as you deserve much more recognition. Had to re-watch the Abysswalker, gets me emotional every time! lol
I can't believe I'm saying this but you're videos are just as good if not better then Vaati. He does great lore... But I find his tone to be lacking and he often does quantity over quality. I know you take time to really make sure that we feel emotional not just from the story but from the video itself. Wonderful job at really making me feel.
I always thought Izalith was created before the lords got their power because in the opening cinematic isn't she called The Witch of Izalith. Another thing that I wondered is do you think the demons that are still around after you defeat the Bed of Chaos have found some way to propagate themselves without the Flame of Chaos or does their power eventually dissipate as the source of their life was extinguished?
This kind of reminds me of Bloodborne's story a bit. Even the line Quelana says: "Fear the flame" reminds me of the line in Bloodborne: "Fear the Old Blood". It seems like there are some similarities of theme in both games. In Bloodborne, humans are trying to reach the next step of human evolution; to become godlike like the Great Ones. In Dark Souls, the Lords seem to forget they are not gods, and yet, still try to play god. And with both games there's that one thing that can bring life, but also corrupt beyond comprehension: the Paleblood and the First Flame.
I never met Quelana, I'm close the Bed of Chaos boss fight and she just never showed up. In fact, while I was exploring Blight Town, the Pyromancy that was at Fire Link Shrine was wondering around down there and attacked me out of nowhere, and this after he went missing from the Fire Link Shrine. I have no idea what I did, or didn't do maybe, to cause that to happen...
What is the music at the end of the video? It's not Like Yesterday by Acoustic Labs(but I'm pretty sure it's his track tho). I checked AL's channel and listened every single song there, but didn't find this one(perhaps I wasn't attentive enough, but there were a lot of songs to listen, so...)
If I may make a request... Would you kindly do a lore video on the origins of the Gaping Dragon? While not much about it is known, i'm sure that you could masterfully flesh it out anyway, like you always do~
Wait, so the kiln of the first flame is in Lost Izalith? because you showed that dome in this video, as well as in a 10 things video explaining how the kiln is similar to an actual kiln.
so is that little bug thing inside the bed of chaos the witch who found the flame of life or what ever it was called? on a side note that reminds me of the final boss of demon's souls
Didn't the soul artists of Izalith learn fire magic from the Great Demon Firesages? Perhaps "demon" is a title reserved for those who warp their body with magic... A act repeated by that failed experiment, but it did birth the art of pyromance... Izalith is between the ancient tombs of giants, the paths to the Great Hollow, New Londo, and Anor Londo. It is, for the most part, as massive underground chamber filled with structures that even encompass the walls; I find it hard to believe a city so integral to Lordran's history was built so recently. It's much more likely it was where the precursors of Gwyn and kin came from before overthrowing the giants...
"unlike the miracles or sorceries, pyromancy required neither faith in any gods or a vast intellect" No longer in dark souls 3 :v maybe it haves a lore about now have requeriments ..
Thanks! All songs used are always listed at the end of the video where it says Clips/Songs Used. 90% of the music I use is original scores from an artist on this channel th-cam.com/users/AcousticLabs
Perhaps the first flame was drained because of it being used to cause the rain of fire spell? Why is the first flame so important anyway? I think they were just scared of living in an age without the flame.
"unlike the miracles or sorceries, pyromancy required neither faith in any gods or a vast intellect" Ahh those were the days, though on a lore related note, Sorcerers were said to have generally looked down upon pyromancy and considered it "simple", with the more dissenting calling it "barbaric", right? Clearly this lack of a need to be especially intelligent is the source of this, and I'd thought that might've just been an "average pyro compared to average sorcerer" situation this stemmed from, but actually on second thought this is almost certainly to be a case of intellectual/ academic elitism. One must be highly intelligent to be proficient with soul sorcery, but in theory anyone can learn pyromancy provided they have a teacher, and while sorcerer bonds appear more "professional" in their master/ apprentice dynamic, pyromancy seems to have a more personal/ intimate bond, better described with softer terms like mentor/ pupil. It's practically academics vs tradition. With this in mind, it'd make sense sorcerers might feel like the magic they use would be devalued if pyromancy were considered "equal", and given how user accessible pyromancy is once you first acquire it, the fact sorcery requires you to be so clever to use it properly at a comparable level would likely make those who dedicate themselves to the practice feel somewhat threatened/ insecure about how others perceive the value of their magical arts, so they make a point of saying how "lowly" pyromancy is, spreading an opinion of inferiority about it both to comfort themselves, and to keep others who're proficient with neither from recognising their own insecurities.
dude love the game have been playing since daemon souls (which was so fucking sick everyone should play it) love the vids cant wait for ds3 hopefully they stay true to real gamers and dont make it all check point easy. you made it this far so there for you deserve to continue..if it comes to that may as well have a gold shiny line telling you where to go...get fucked!
+Nick Mayr in a way, yes. to my understanding the bed of chaos is the result of the witch being consumed by the chaos flame she created, and thus transformed her and also spawned the demons. So her soul is found in the bed of chaos, and that's who we have the misfortune of fighting in game lol because that fight is in no way enjoyable
All songs used are always listed at the end of the video where it says Clips/Songs Used. 90% of the music I use is original scores from an artist on this channel th-cam.com/users/AcousticLabs
but when pyromancy creats fire why when the first flame dies its the end cant some1 light a new god dham fire siriosly if pyromace didnt exist there would be a pont in liking the flame and cant they just light I new fire with wood its easy eaven a kid can do that
I heard its powerd up by humanaty which means gwyn can burn humanaty enstead of himself and sory for my bad wrighting and yep bonfires are actually strange when you look clossly you can see pails of bones under that fire its just creepy
ok what would you do when the fire is dien and dark is comming you would exept it or try to stop it cos if I was at the place of my charecter I would choose to leave the flame die so the age of man can rise and I think that the abyss didnt transform the people form olaciel but manus himself by simply transforming there humanaty

And so so very true. We play as gods. We will never be gods.

Interesting Idea to say that Carmina could be the parasitic wall hugger. I've never really thought about her.
So many connections to 3 it's shocking

What song is in the background, I wouldn't have to ask if it was in the description. Please terra save the poor souls who get daruded everyday.
Save it, He'll never....Never answer us...He's gone hollow -sniffles-

WHO IS THAT BLACK DRAGON in 3:05
I have never encountered him? I wanna fight him before I kill gwyn
You can't grapple him, period nope nope nope you can cut off his tail though but he is unaggroable and Immortal
Anyone know what this music is ?
is the profaned flame the same as the flame of chaos

Cheers!
TerraMantis Oh and, fantastic video! :)
I just discovered you and damn happy for it.
=)

Why QUeelana were not inflicted and turned into a demon?
So the Witch of Izalith was the mother of her 7 witches, but who was their father?
gwyn?oh that would be great
idk the two who are still normal are human size, and only 2 you meet have special souls (quelaag and her sister)
but when pyromancy creats fire why when the first flame dies its the end cant some1 light a new god dham fire siriosly if pyromace didnt exist there would be a pont in liking the flame and cant they just light I new fire with wood its easy eaven a kid can do that
Yes, but this fire is special. Bonfires have magical qualities not found in pyromancy and normal fire.
Yea, screw sacrificing yourself
Anyone else think this guy sounds like sasuke?

Good info, but tone it down with the voice maybe? I mean its a game dude, stop being so absurdly dramatic.
I love how every one that does lore videos tries to sound like in game characters. It's not dramatic dude, it's just corny.
I LOVE the story, but i cant stand his voice. I'm sorry dude.
I didn't like it ... Just saying
Dude your AWSOME!
