That's insane! I also came to the conclusion that Priscilla is the Daughter of Seath in that way, that he accidentaly modified a pregnant woman instead of a virgin maiden. However, I believe the 'other' father of Priscilla to be Havel the Rock directly. In just the same way it's brought up here, the archbishop of law and caste had an affair with a - presumed - maiden. That maiden got abducted and somehow modified by Seath. I believe, that Seath knew or guessed from the very beginning of his experiments with human women that a pregnant women could lead to complications and therefore requested maidens from the getgo. Noone could have foreseen, that one presumed maiden actually had an affair and was pregnant, right? Therefore I believe Priscilla to be the Daughter of Havel, that Maiden and Seath. It would explain that deep-seated hatred of Havel for all things sorcery and Seath a smudge better that just him killing his lover - which also is a pretty good reason to hate someone in the first place ofc. I don't really know what evidence brought you to conclude the birth of Priscilla and the abduction of Havels lover to be seperate events - but I guess I also don't have that much clear evidence for my idea either... except a nice little parabola with Berserk which just rhymes so well to me that I chose to accept this as the more elegant and simpler story: In Berserk there is also a Child with three Parents, just like Priscilla. It's the child Guts and Kjaskar made, which was somehow aborted and livingly modified by Femto-Griffiths Demon-Seed. This happened willingly by Femto-Griffith, instead of presumably unknowingly by Seath, but the parallels just ring something for me. And I stumbled over quite a lot lore references pairing exactly these characters - Guts and Havel, Seath and Griffith... perhaps Myazaki chose to take that connection and this Hommage to Berserk just a little bit further? Anyway, the abduction, perhaps rape of his loved one plus the corruption and ousting of his to-be-daughter would be enough to drive an archbishop of law and caste to a rebellion against the very gods, the stashing of occult weapons in hidden places of Anor Londo and mobilising an army of magic-resistantly armored knights against the very gods he once prayed for. It's even enough to turn him against an old friend - or be locked away by him through betrayal, for his own good, of course. Anway, felt like sharing this. I love your work. It's the most compelling and interesting insights we get in the lore of these wonderful games, I think. And it's so delishious food to fuel the little story ideas and theories of so many others by their own - it's awesome in any meaning of this word. Praise the Lore
I think you might just have it, and that could also explain why Havel's Maiden is the one who died in her cell rather than being transformed into one of the serpentine abominations at the bottom of the Archives. Seath presumably would've aborted his experiments on her once he realized she was pregnant, choosing to lock her away instead. Of course, the damage was already done, but not enough to transform her completely, just enough to corrupt the yet-born fetus we now know as Priscilla. Eventually, she was forgotten, either honestly or willfully, and her body, robes, and ring were left for us to find, the maiden's last testament to the evil of Seath.
Wait… so if Priscilla is Havel’s daughter, and Priscilla was Nitos wife, that would make Nito Havel’s son-in-law lmao. (Only of you believe that second theory anyway)
@@joeprado3614 how could Priscilla be Nito's lover? She's clearly young (fur/feathers) and knows nothing of the outside world. Besides, who would have enough power to take her away from Nito himself and lock her away? Also what would be the point of the second coffin in Nito's domain if she wasn't someone who could live there? And would Nito really just sit and do nothing if he knew his lover was kidnapped and alive, just locked up?
@@Archimedes.5000 The gods maybe superior than Nito at that time. Also the undead dragon and the bonewheels guarding the gate to Priscilla seem like Nito's will. Although I dont think Priscilla could have enough time to start a relationship with Nito before being banished to the painted world, or that makes Nito a pedophile lol
Absolutely bends my brain when you mentioned the Ash Lake ancient dragon as possibly being the firekeeper for its bonfire. It's like Seath's not only trying to make stone dragons, but create a being that can survive an age of Dark, Light, or whatever comes... Fantastic lore series.
So glad you’ve been back lately old friend. Looking forward to hearing all your discoveries and analysis once more! PS the fact that Seath is very likely NOT insane makes his actions even more reprehensible imo, although the fact that his mission allows him to retain some sort of sanity in the entropy filled Lordran is still rather impressive. He seems to be the last major force left at least ‘mostly intact’ (for lack of a better term) in the world, aside from perhaps Gwyndolin. He proves to be much more hardy than many of his brethren after all, ironically BECAUSE of his mortality or more precisely his **obsession with** his mortality makes him functionally immortal. Such a dichotomous character, the many contradictions make Seath incredibly intriguing. He arguably is more successful in reinventing the flame than the Witch is.
For some reason, I've only just realized how utterly futile Seath quest for immortality was, and in the same way the quest of the god to make the age of fire eternal a fool errand, with the crystal itself being a hint so obvious we only sought to interpret it metaphorically as part of some greater scheme rather than literally, as in, the literal crystal can be interpreted as a metaphor for how dragons came to be, if we look into how crystalline structures like quartz come to be in real life. They grow over time due to favorable conditions, albeit extremely slowly, its a natural process like any others, they never were ''eternal'' in the way that they cannot die, but more than they're part of the natural processes of the world that can become manifest. Seath could never have gotten the immortality he sought, and became mad when he realized it was impossible, the same way that holding the crystal and all its qualities simply does not make its a part of your self, a part of your soul. That last line just gave me an epiphany about the nature of his crystalline beings and experiments... He tried to literally fuse lord/flame soul to the soul of the crystal, but when that failed horribly in the form of Priscilla (not that she is a living failure, as she breathe and is healthy as far as we can see, but more than she wasn't the expected outcome, rather than an eternally living crystalline soul whose inner flame grew ever more, she was a creature of want, whose soul could sap the ones of others with a single glance, leaving nothing after, not even ashes. He wanted an exponential and he got pure vacuum instead. ), he started to test on humans and their dark souls, perhaps hoping our dark souls could provide us something he lacked as to find a solution to his dilemma. I suspect those experiments never gave him closure, seeing how things went afterward. He wanted to hold in his bosom the inherent eternal growth of crystals, so he could grow his own scales, yet in the end all he had was a feeble phylactery, a pale, artificial, rushed simulacrum of the real thing, a frail eggshell which crumbling end truly exemplify how mad Seath endeavor had become, a god reduced to a glass house he can never leave, for fear that his so cherished ''immortality'' be lost to anything from a falling rock to a hefty gust of wind.
I summoned to help with this fight literal hundreds of times, for his fight back in the PS3 days. I had my lvl 140 dragon slayer build with the dragon slayer spear +5 and the great sunlight spear. I memorized every step and map detail in the invisible crystal caverns down to his boss fight. In the ps4 times it was different but still there. The number of sunlight medals I have on ps3 and ps4 is unbelievable.
I wonder if Seath would’ve become fully crystallized given enough time, and maybe then he would’ve become truly immortal without the need of the Crystal
I'm surprised there is no mention here about how Seath also abducted Manus's lover. I really expected to see the connection between Seath and the fall of Oolacile.
Wha How would that work Manus was an acient man who died long ago, even before Oolacile civilization, so most likely way before Seath went mad. Where would his lover even come from. Is that theory made just from the fact that Crystal Golem has broken pedant?
I like to believe that the everlasting dragon in Ash Lake simply survived the culling of the Ancient Dragons and hatched long after their passing in a forgotten place far beneath the surface of the known world- a secret even Seath cannot know. Proof of the resilience of life despite the best efforts of its enemies. A miracle of a species reemerging from the brink of extinction to carry on a legacy older than time itself.
The way you Describe how Seath plans to bring back the dragons reminds me of how scientists in our universe think we could theoretically bring back dinosaurs by messing with the genetics of birds. I also like that you are able to explain his motives for his actions while not sugarcoating the fact that his actions were cruel and insane. Seath was a monster, but he was a monster born of circumstance and bad luck. Very good video here pal, one of your better ones.
‘Seeth, perhaps the most important character in Dark Souls’. Yep I’d say so. The Age of Fire wouldn’t have happened without Seeth’s help. Seeth’s lore is incredible and all he ever wanted was to be equal like his brethren.
I'm always impressed by the level of detail, love and dedication with every video of yours. It is truly magnificent to watching everything else, from other videos, coming together now. Good job Hawkshaw!!
Wonder if Crows and Dragons are directly related. After all, scales and feathers both evolved at around the same time and featherless reptiles IRL have a hormone that suppresses feather growth during development.
This was a very insightful and eye-opening video, as usual. I had never really thought about Seath as being a helpful and widely respected scientist dragon for a time, but it all makes a lot of sense now.
The ancient dragon is sitting ON the nest. She’s not young. Not newly created. She’s the lone, hidden survivor of her kind, leading her hidden covenant. This is why Seath is still trying, not some unsupported claim that he succeeded in making one, hid it, then kept trying to make one as if he hadn’t
What do you mean? She is in the nest after all, and no one says that dragons are born small, or that they don’t grow quickly. As such it is possible that he did make a dragon.
I haven't seen anybody connect that maiden set and White Seance Ring to Havel. That's so sad and adds so much to Havel's story with Seath. Brilliant discovery to share!
What about Gwyndolin and Seath? Im pretty convinced that Seath experimented with his mother while he was in the womb too. Maybe Gwyndolin and Priscilla share the same mother as they r both 'gods' Further explaining the emotional attachment of Gwyndolin and Yorshka in DS3, he looked after her as a brother.
hmmm i believe Seath's betrayal was far worse... the dragons had immortality through scales and invulnerability through the primordial crystal, as seen in Seath's fight. He is immune to harm until the crystal is destroyed. He betrayed his brethren, fulfilling part of his agenda and gaining immunity to violence by stealing the primordial crystal, leaving the ancient dragons vulnerable to attack. Scaleless, he is still tied to time as he is yet not immortal. Through Gwyn's support as gratitude in his help in the war against the dragon he thought to gain the resources to continue his study of the dragons scales. The crystal outbreak and magic are results of Seath's experiments with the primordial crystal. I do agree that he was desperately trying to find dragons to study their scales more closely as the remains of the war were unusable by now. The gaping dragon didn't wield any results, but he had discovered a way to contact another time, as the entrance into the past is directly tied to his archives and the crystal golems he controls... What if the rift for the dlc wasn't intended for the chosen undead to face the abyss, but for Seath to find and study or maybe even use the last recorded ancient dragon that was slain. By the time the chosen undead ravages Lordran, moes through his channelers and destroys his objects of study, he is left to micromanage his his latest work and is ultimately left offguard when the undead arrives at his doorstep, defying his traps, guards and even guaranteed lethal attacks, proving impossible to stop. Ironically his study only accomplished to send the chosen undead back in time to kill the dragon he was so keen on studying.

In dark souls 2 his soul is in the spider and he uses the mining town to dig up the dragons corpse so he can move into it. Which is why you have to collect the soul which is next to the corpse instead of just obtaining it after defeating the boss like the others
Amazing work, as always. How much of this is interpretation of stuff and how much is filling the holes? In any way, very interesting, very well done and your voice is a pleasure to listen to.
*"Everything is great. We got no time, no sun, no death. It is amazing."* (amazing) *"We got this crystal shit that even makes us DOUBLE IMMORTAL."* (Don't even. Need it.)
Food for thought: Seath was probably the first of the Dragonkind to have to worry about death and with no belief systems in place he would have had no one to turn to. And on top of that while he was born without immortality he is one of the last two dragons to die.
Trully well made video. I jsut realized that Seath was presumably the main character, until the chosen undead came but even then, he was, as you said, the most important character. The business of the first flame didn't bother him. Creating wonders for others? a mere distraction along the way. Gwyn, Witch and Nito? Mere stepping stones.
Great video man, good to see it improve compared to the last one Whether it's because this topic just had more content to cover, or you actually listened to feedback, or maybe I simply understand your intentions better now, I do not know, but I feel the videos really get better with every new release I understand now that this is not *that* kind of video, but still, it would be good to see item descriptions of things you are talking about, just like you do with dialogues already
This channel always has such great insights to a game that's around a decade old!! It's so entertaining to hear a fresh perspective. I hope you keep making this content Hawkshaw! Love it
There are 2 ways to be immortal.1 to avoid death, 2 is by spreading you genes. Seath try both methods. That's why he kidnapped women using his crystal golem and thrusting his crystalhalberd to these women and even to godess (gwyns wife) We see his children from pris, yorshka (yorshka is probably just an old pris who got out of the painting), and gwyndolin. Yes gwyndolin is seath's son. That's why he's pale, has an affinity to the moon, has snakes leg, and has the same song as moonlight butterfly (seath's creation). And gwyndolin probably blind as well This is why gwyndolin said yorshka (whom he gave her name) that they are brother and sister.
Huh, one thing I think isn't dwelt on enough is that Seath, being subject to emotions and truly mortal, actually has more in common with the lords and their progeny than any of the dragons. Can you imagine living a life as a twisted version of these immortal, cold emotionless things?
Where in the world did you get the idea that Havel was in love with one of the maidens Seath kidnapped? And that the white seance ring originally belonged to Havel the rock? Normally I dig your stuff, even if I don't buy it. Your recent Lautrec video was amazing. But this Seath video feels like fan fiction.
The White Seance Ring says that it is: "A divine ring entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White and apostle to Allfather Lloyd, uncle to Lord Gwyn." Since Havel was an important Bishop in the Way of White, who also fought in the Dragon War, it is quite possible that he was also the Head Bishop.
That's a non-sequitor. By that logic any ring in the game could belong to any NPC with fingers, because it's "quite possible" it belongs to them. I could even accept it was originally Havel's ring if there were other contextual clues that connected Havel to that corpse, but the idea that some random corpse wearing a ring "entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White" means that corpse was therefore Havel's lover is complete gibberish. There's a fine line between lore hunting and fan fiction, and this is deep in fan fiction territory.
@@tsarcastic3722 Touché. Although, being connected to the bishops of the Way of White is a much stronger connection than simply having fingers. I think Hawkshaw explained this theory better in the "Ash Lake, Havel, and the Plot against the Gods" video.
Havel is described as both a Bishop of the way of white, and the arch enemy of Seathe by the great magic barrier miracle. The ring of a maidens corpse in Seathes dungeon is said to belong to a bishop of the way of white. If that ring did belong to Havel, it would explain why he was arch enemy to Seathe, as that maiden would be a loved one of Havels. Havel is the only bishop of the way of white we know of, other than Allfather Lloyd, who is the uncle to Lord Gwyn, but the ring is specifically stated to not belong to him, as it belongs to one of his apostles. I really like this theory of Hawkshaws, it’s not concrete obviously but given the information we have it’s much more likely than not. The other way to look at it is that this ring isn’t Havels, this maiden is just some random lady with a bishops ring, and Havel just decided to hate Seathe, who gave Havel and Gwyn the information on how to defeat the ancient dragons.
@@kalilmyers9498 The great magic barrier says Havel hates sorcery, wouldn't the simplest explanation be the guy who hunted dragons and hates sorceries want to kill a dragon that uses sorceries to finish his job?
Is it possible that the pregnant woman seath abducted that gave birth to Priscilla was actually the woman that Havel loved? We find havel's ring on her body. A ring that helps you to carry more weight. Perhaps he gave it to her in order to help her carry the weight of their unborn child? Maybe this could explain why we find her dead in a cell. Seath furious with the abomination that was born torturing the women and allowing her to die. Idk just a thought I had while rewatching this lolol
His insanely cool backstory is exactly the reason why he's the main badguy in my dark souls D&D campaign. Thank you mister Hawkshaw for these awesome insights!
I don’t think I have seen this mentioned before but I personally believe at least some of the inspiration for Seath the Scaless comes from a Russian/slavic?(not really sure) mythical character named Koschei the Deathless. He was a wizard who abducted the princess from some kingdom, and he could not be killed without destroying an object which contained his soul( i think its a babushka doll but again im not sure). Again, to my knowledge this has not been discussed by any of the main lore channels. With that being said it might just be incorrect, but i persnally believe the name(koschei the DEATHLESS/seath the SCALELESS) and the fact that they were both invincible until an external artefact is destroyed are both a little too specific to be nothing. I hope you read this as I think you could probably do the most with this info.
Great video, Seath is the one part of the game I found most confusing all along. It’s rare that FS and Miyazaki make such an unsubtle and direct homage to King’s Field. While the series is full of little nods to the rpg series of old, Seath stands as the biggest and most blatant reference in the series. As a God and creator of the world of kings field, I expected you to at least mention it. If you do research in Japanese, I’m surprised if you don’t also play kings field, and study the lore surrounding Seath there as well.

Ah man can't wait to learn how Seath did nothing wrong and that not only were his actions justified but they lead to a better world.
Straight facts
#SeathDidNothingWrong
Lmao
If only dark souls 2 didn't exist I'd be willing to take that bet.
He experimented on women bruv
I just like how basically Seath was just a bullied dragon nerd. Pale, frail, outcast and studious.
I came to the same conclusion and choose to believe as you do. It just adds a nice connection and makes the story even deeper.
Everything falls into place when we realize why Aldiya created the Emerald Herald with the dragon heritage and made her the keeper of fire.
The Golems being there to guard / watch dragon-like creatures because he wants to become like his old brethren makes so much sense!
Love that you played Yarghul’s theme when you started talking about a surrogate. Well done.
I assume Seath made the Moonlight Butterfly to show how refined his taste in mecha anime is.
@accelerationquanta5816 he kidnapped and tortured people wdym?
that is immoral@accelerationquanta5816
There is never enough Hawkshaw. Every time a video comes out I have to watch the back log after.
I like the part where Seath said,'Let's get scaleless', then kidnapped a bunch of maidens and stuck octopi on their heads
Zzzzzz
The crystal was an ancient treasure that was owned by the Everlasting Dragons. He pillaged it from them after his treason. Seathe didn't create it.
Wha
How would that work
Manus was an acient man who died long ago, even before Oolacile civilization, so most likely way before Seath went mad.
Where would his lover even come from.
Is that theory made just from the fact that Crystal Golem has broken pedant?

@@Archimedes.5000 well like the video says Seath never really went mad, it’s just the perception of the people of Lordran.
Did dude just change the thumbnail just to catch the Oppenheimer train?

‘Seeth, perhaps the most important character in Dark Souls’. Yep I’d say so. The Age of Fire wouldn’t have happened without Seeth’s help. Seeth’s lore is incredible and all he ever wanted was to be equal like his brethren.

Seath is literally Death the Destroyer of Worlds
Impressive as always. You don't have a ton of videos on your channel, but the few ones you can make are gold! Keep up the good work.
@@SilverIVthere's no reason to think that's the case

I haven't seen anybody connect that maiden set and White Seance Ring to Havel. That's so sad and adds so much to Havel's story with Seath. Brilliant discovery to share!
What about Gwyndolin and Seath? Im pretty convinced that Seath experimented with his mother while he was in the womb too. Maybe Gwyndolin and Priscilla share the same mother as they r both 'gods' Further explaining the emotional attachment of Gwyndolin and Yorshka in DS3, he looked after her as a brother.

The immortal dragon being a baby firekeeper is an idea I want to believe.
hmmm i believe Seath's betrayal was far worse... the dragons had immortality through scales and invulnerability through the primordial crystal, as seen in Seath's fight.

Dark Souls lore has become an integral part of my life.
I love how they use hollow knight music throughout the videos they make. It’s such a vibe
Great video man, good to see it improve compared to the last one
Whether it's because this topic just had more content to cover, or you actually listened to feedback, or maybe I simply understand your intentions better now, I do not know, but I feel the videos really get better with every new release
I understand now that this is not *that* kind of video, but still, it would be good to see item descriptions of things you are talking about, just like you do with dialogues already
That's why he kidnapped women using his crystal golem and thrusting his crystalhalberd to these women and even to godess (gwyns wife)
We see his children from pris, yorshka (yorshka is probably just an old pris who got out of the painting), and gwyndolin.
Yes gwyndolin is seath's son. That's why he's pale, has an affinity to the moon, has snakes leg, and has the same song as moonlight butterfly (seath's creation). And gwyndolin probably blind as well
This is why gwyndolin said yorshka (whom he gave her name) that they are brother and sister.
Be careful you might pull a muscle with a stretch like that
*laughs* no
Huh, one thing I think isn't dwelt on enough is that Seath, being subject to emotions and truly mortal, actually has more in common with the lords and their progeny than any of the dragons.
The White Seance Ring says that it is:
"A divine ring entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White and apostle to Allfather Lloyd, uncle to Lord Gwyn."
Since Havel was an important Bishop in the Way of White, who also fought in the Dragon War, it is quite possible that he was also the Head Bishop.
Hawkshaw deserves more views, these are objectively the best lore videos on TH-cam.

I loved the Fire Bird
Wonder of that guy was the inspiration for how D&D liches work.
Been watching you for a while man, love the content truly feels like you're own interpretation. Not just taken from wikipedia
This was very interesting to listen to! Good work. Hearing about what the players have to say about lore is probably my favorite thing in Dark Souls.
