I meant to ask earlier … 7x vs Epix on display in bright sunlight - what is your recommendation? (I would expect the Epix to wash out, like the Apple S7 which I gave a chance and then returned). I have the 7solar but considering returning and getting Epix if good- I am constantly in extreme brightness in Arizona desert. 60 yrs old, need maps in the outback/trail walking here. Wear for O2, heart rate, sleep tracking, elliptical 99% of the time. So much to learn😊👍

    Recommendation from Mark:
    Custom layout with 4 fields:
    1 - Stamina Fields - Current
    2 - Stamina Fields - Distance remaining
    3 - Stamina Fields - Time remaining
    4 - Stamina Fields - Potential

    • @gerard7829

Odd, my Epix doesn’t have the option to add “stamina” fields, only the Stamina page itself

Mark, thanks for your on going reviews on the Fenix 7. I bought mine 2 weeks back and am totally blown away with what it can do. My main usage is gym work (the weight lifting part is incredible for keeping tabs on my lifts). Also wild camping and hiking (and a life saver when storms and white outs occur as the base map is incredible.

I bought a Fenix 7X based on your videos Mark, so thank you. I was torn between this and an Apple Watch and had a bad experience with a Garmin 5X. However, the 7X is so much better; more features, faster, easier and more intuitive. I love it!

My first gen 945 does post activity perceived efforts questions too, I think it’s pretty standard now.
Don’t forget to say you no longer need to adjust settings on the Fenix 7 watch you can do most of it on GARMIN connect.
If you hear a bank was robbed in the next few days that could be me in aid of a Fenix 7 purchase, ha;-)..
Seriously I am absolutely happy with my 945. And oddly the screen seems truly black & way bright enough at 80%. Hmmmm….No doubt I’ll be wearing a bloody Fenix sometime in the future. Keep it up….

How about a video where you do an intervall training where you show the intense drain of your stamina and compare it to how you feel?

I had forgotten about the stamina stuff but looking back to yesterday’s Makuri climb on Zwift when I gave everything I had it dropped to zero like a stone, bounced around there as I limped to the end during the descent and came back up on the cool down - obviously more use for a longer sustained effort but interesting nonetheless! Another trip up the Alpe sans chien for research purposes?

This watch looks like it would be great to have, but it would have many features on it that i probably would never use. It is also bit pricy to justify what I would use it for in my daily activities. i am active but retired. I walk and play golf, but there are cheaper devices dedicated for that. i do use a bicycle, but I dont do long distance bicycling. Thank you for the time to explain these watches.

This is very interesting. I have been looking at a number of watches, Garmin's the one which has stood. I have been trying out a watch a work fried loaned me. It keep a log on my heart rate and walking pace. But as you know, there's more to it. The GPs, maps and other fitness log's. I like the stamina data info. I am not a runner, I trekker and I am keen to get back into long distance, light weigh treks. Say, 24 to 48 hour kit. Now with the Fenix 7x, 7x Pro Solar. I am keen to follow reviews. Take care...

5:20 Perceived Exertion tracking came to the Fenix 6 in an update last August. I suppose you would have had to dig through the settings to enable the prompt. My lowly Forerunner 45 has it, so I would have been shocked if the F6 didn't.

Nice review, I'm feeling my interest in keeping my Fenix 6 Titanium Sapphire starting to come into question. Especially with the Epix out there as well. I like the stamina feature and see how it could be very useful for my long days in the saddle, but now come to think of it, that seems pretty similar to my Time to Exhaustion - Xert app on my Garmin Edge 1030. So since I'm not really a long distance runner, looks like the stamina feature is kind of a been there, done that,...ask the waiter for the check kind of a thing. Thanks once again for the great review but really seems that I've talked myself out of an upgrade once again, but with SRAM picking up Karoo, might be time to get a better look at the Hammerhead 2 in a few months or so. Hmmm....

Hi Mark, thank you very much for your videos.
I have a suggestion for you, it seems you know everything that is needed including how to make a good video. And it seems like you want to do this as well. So:
    1) Make a video, or a small series, how to start runnning to get healthier, in the best way with the Fenix 7 / Epix. And probably Fenix 6 and even 5 users can follow and use most of it anyway. What is a good program? Should I trust the restitution time of the watch or how do I best get started.
    2) Make a video, or a small series, how to improve your running to get your goals with everything the Fenix 7 / Epix have of tools. I guess this is quite different form 1. If not, then I suppose the video or series from 1) is enough.
    3) Make a video, or a small series, about how to use Fenix / Epix for 'everything else'. The watch is of course first and foremost a training partner. But it has so many other possibilities. So I think it would be worth it. How do you easily mark where you park you car so you can find it again? How do you get a good report to show to your doctor. These are the things I know about, but I am sure it has many other possibilities, and I would like to see your guide how to get more out of the watch.
Perhaps, you will know better, I am not sure, but I would imagine, that a discussion of different watch faces including discussion about battery drain but also to show some of the very good watch faces that can be downloaded and improve the daily use of the watch.
    4) And I'm not sure it's even possible and even if it is, I'm not sure you are the right guy, but let me suggest anyway. How to use the Fenix 7 / Epix best for resistance training / power lifting.
And again. Thanks for your videos.

The stamina idea is a cool looking feature. I’m curious about how it could be used to pace 1mile, 5k, 10k time trials where you try to get to the end with nothing left.

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Needs testing but in theory if you can do, say a 20 minute 5K then setting off at four minute kilometre pace should have the stamina indicator showing that you have 5 km and 20 minutes left until 0%. And if it shows, say 20%, run faster 🤣

Hope they migrate the stamina feature to the Garmin Edge bike computers. They should be able to see from the Garmin cloud data mt current body battery status and such (even could pair my watch to the Edge for that , but don't think that should be necessary). Combined with a good HR band (Garmin / Polar H9/10) it should be possible for Garmin to calculate the same stuff for us bike riders.

    • @MarkLewisfitness
      @MarkLewisfitness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

They should - more so as bikers are more likley to push they long distance stuff (in that the average biker might do /3 hr rides but the average runner doesnt do long stuff often) - but I dont think they will

    Hello Mark,
    Very interesting review! Thank you!
I have a question! I currently use my Garmin Edge 530 (yes... I like buttons!) for navigation and -as soon as my new road bike was delivered- also to display the values of the powermeter.
If I now purchase a Fenix 7x, I would of course like to have the "Real-Time Stamina" values displayed while road biking. Do I then have to start the activity on Fenix and Edge at the same time? Or is there any more elegant way to display this data?
    Thanks for your feedback!

Coming from a Forerunner 245, and being an avid watch collector, with my largest watch being 44mm, and the rest of my collection between 37mm-40mm, the idea of a 51mm watch seemed daunting. Did it take you a while to get used to a watch this size? Also, what is your wrist circumference? I look down at the F7x on my wrist, and while I love the screen size, I can’t seem to get over the fact that the watch looks gigantic.

Can you use the stamina feature for something other than a run? Like maybe HIIT or swimming?

Garmin is going to add this to the 945 LTE per DC rainmaker.

Hi, has somebody noticed that cool hand gesture > to just put down the palm of the hand onto the display to dismiss a notification or exit a menu / the widgets?

    Hi There,
does the stamina mode and recoverytime also apply for gym workouts? Or only cycling and running?

Actually I'd be interested if there's any way to account for 'calories in' whilst exercising asside from just rest.

Is the orange strap a Garmin one? Looks a bit bright!

Discovered an interesting issue with this this morning. Although you can add the default Stamina screen for other cycling activities ie. Cyclocross, you can’t add the Custom Fields. Stamina just isn’t an option. Annoying!

Epix 2 is so worthy due to it's clear screen that can show much more details compare to Fenix...plus if you active person you shouldn't too lazy to charge weekly....and you will feel better compared to apple watch if you use it daily to work place.

I have one question, I just got the fenix 7. After my strength training session, I manually typed the reps in. After the workout the watch shows 567 reps, but when it downloads to the app it says 211 reps. I know the 212 is the accurate one, I’m just wondering why is my watch saying different l.
    .
Even when I go in the watch and look at the sets, the numbers are right, but the total reps are wrong. Any info

Try running up the hill in St Ives with the watch.
