When I was running hardcore and doing sub-3 marathons, wrist based heart rate sensors weren’t around yet. Honestly, all the sensors and data really don’t make you a better athlete; just do the work outs. GPS accuracy and battery life are the most important things. What I love about the Fenix series is that case and sapphire glass and full color maps. Add in solar charging and the flashlight and I’m considering the upgrade from a Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire.

The Fenix was slightly more than I was looking to spend but contained full topo mapping and routing, whereas the instinct had an excellent battery life. I really need a tactix 7 vs new Fenix 7 Ppro comparison. Specially the display, brightness, visibility in sunlight, brightness with solar and non-solar.
If it’s any help I have had both, and the screen is noticeably clearer with the F7X Pro vs T7 Solar. The contrast is better, but also the brightness levels are better. My unscientific guesstimate is 40% brightness on the F7XP = 60% on T7 Solar. Also, I think the Enduro 2 screen is clearer than T7. However, Auto-Brightness is poor, and hopefully that will be improved in a future firmware update. Hope this helps.
Hey Boomix, I'm planning a more tactical review review of the 7Pro Sapp Solar. I have some interesting feedback more suited to my mil/L.E brothers and sisters out there.
Have you had problems with wrist-based accuracy on other watches? If so, is the new sensor much better? I had a Fenix 6 and it would lose my HR at about 120bpm and then start to half the reading... Awful. I'm wondering how the new sensors would do with me? I have a whoop 4.0 now, and it seems to be spot on. Thanks for your comments.

Just ordered a fenix 7 pro solar sapphire. It was only the equivalent of 649 usd so I kinda had to. My old garmin instinct is probably close to 5 years now and the battery is getting kinda bad. So time for an upgrade although I'll probably still use it for some workstuff. @Desfit thanks for the always great reviews
Like the review. I've been looking for a review that would compare the Fenix7 pro Sapphire with the Enduro2 Saphire, but don't seem to find one. Seem the main differences are the HR sensor Gen4 vs Gen5 and some comments suggest that the Enduro2 has a weaker contrast/not so clear image on the screen. Any thoughts on this?
Hello, Can you please confirm if the compass on the new Pro models is also highly sensitive and affected by the movement of the strap? (Was this an issue with the seventh-generation models)
I had both, the epix was nice, but for me the pretty screen wasn’t needed. The f7 pro is nice enough with nice colors and contrast and the backlight is much better now. The difference in display between the fenix and epix wasn’t big enough for me to justify keeping the epix. Also, the epix isn’t bike friendly, when you use the watch as a bike computer and put it on your bike! The display wants to turn off, and there’s no always on backlight for the epix. To each their own.
Thank you for this review. Looking to switch to Garmin. Looking at the Fenix 7 Pro Solar, as I want to go into UTMs. But quite pricey in South Africa still. Will check out Black Friday deals or see if the rumours are true of the Fenix 8 release next year, that might push the prices down a bit. Hopefully the ZAR doesn't keep on tanking against USD, EUR and GBP.
Thank you for this. What are your thoughts on wearing the watch on your ankle for times when you can't have it on your wrist (I'm a massage therapist) or for during some sports like mountain biking?
You mentioned a comparison video between the Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix Pro with a link in the description; I didn’t see it there or as a pinned comment. Thanks-
Great review , i can't seem to get an answer for this question, even from Garmin. I want the brightest led light, i would normally go for the fenix 7 pro 47 mm, but if the led is bigger and brighter on the fenix 7x pro then i would get the 51 mm, not sure if it is brighter, it's definitely got a bigger led light screen but that might be just bigger for aesthetics.
I only run one day a week, but do a lot of HIIT and CrossFit type workouts. I think the Fenix may be more than I need. Does Garmin have a more affordable model that has the features like Pulse Ox, HRV, Stress, Training readiness, body battery
Very helpful video, though would love to see some comparison videos -- between the Fenix and Epix Pro's and with other brands. This is a very interesting development from Garmin because it looks like they've effectively erased Apple's advantage on heart monitoring with the Elevate 5 (automated afib notification and ECG support excepted, though it looks like Garmin has the hardware for the latter), but without Garmin giving up their own advantage with battery-efficient high frequency heart monitoring. So a general suggestion -- you should consider a deep dive into the heart monitoring on these watches. Garmin's high frequency and new sensor, especially when paired with apps like Cardiogram, poses a formidable challenge to something thought of as an Apple domain. But whether Garmin will ever automate the afib notifications like Apple has is a whole other question; it's a very useful safety feature but still not in Garmin's software.
To begin with, Garmin needs to teach their devices to correctly count the pulse and calculate all other indicators on this basis. In addition, it would be nice to put a more powerful chipset, because in the series 7 corny interface slows down. There are a lot of promises and lies in Garmin products, but no real results.
The 42mm Pro doesn't have an orange button top right - Does this mean that it has different funcionality than the standard size with the orange button? If that has any potential ECG function on the standard watch will that be missing on the 42mm?
I've checked Garmin's UK website and it says the Fenix 7 Pro has a MIP display and the Epix pro has the amoled display where as reviews on TH-cam say the opposite.
That's correct, the Epix series uses AMOLED and the Fenix series uses MIP. This video highlights an updated MIP display on the Fenix 7 Pro and the Epix Pro shows the AMOLED display. I'm not sure I've seen reviews that say the opposite.
Apparently they are variable but thats just what I noticed is the outer ones firing up during activities. Likely contributes to battery life savings I would imagine too.
@@DesFit Would love a feature to change that.. Just fire them all up 24/7, beacause my bold guess is that there not that big of a difference from the old sensor to this with everyday use
Are Garmin watches known to resist water for years? After buying exclusively Casio watches for 25+ years, my last 3 got moisture in the screen and became unreadable within 2-3 years so I think I'm done with Casio and think I'll get a Garmin for my next watch. BTW since my first Casio 25+ years ago they had a feature where the backlight turns on automatically as you angle it towards your face, does this Garmin Fenix 7 Pro have this feature?
great review, as always, Des. Too bad there isn't option without solar in 7X ranges, regular or Pro. as far as I can tell, solar adds just a little bit more with decent increase in price. Keep up with the great work Des!
Yeah, and decreases screen visibility by absorbing 7% of the passing ambient light... Can't stand it even on my Fenix 6x pro solar (where it actually absorbs 10% if I remember correctly, but there is no sapphire or touch screen digitizer to absorb enemy more ad on the Fenix 7) Please Garmin, give us back a NON solar Fenix in 51mm....... There's people out here wanting this
@@fendermon if you mean in comparison with 7 solar or sapphire solar... My point exactly. And the 6 base (with backlight off...) Was even a bit better since it has no touchscreen digitizer on the screen. Now, I do understand that going back to no touchscreen would make no sense, but at least a plain gorilla glass version... Camon!
@@frankysour I agree fully. I played with a 7x Saphire solar in the store and was shocked how poor it looked. Maybe it's much better in the sun...but I wouldn't know. -Cheers
hi, great content as usuall 👍👍✅✅; In my opinion a lot of people will grabb discounted 7series without pro. but if more options exist that better for everyone with personal chooses.
I noticed this too. Trying out a fenix 7s and I upgraded from a forerunner 45. Dude... the forerunner 45 is wayyyy more responsive and quick from pressing buttons. No excuse for a watch that costs that much to not be as quick as one thats $700 less lol
@@rosedcurt2865 Yeah, when on a run activity and you have a route loaded, it takes literally a whole second for the watch to respond when cycling through the screens. Not good enough. I don’t see it improving, each software update adds new features which makes the software run more slowly.
So when bicycling do you guys recommend flipping the watch over so that the sensor us up against the inside of your wrist for easier access to your pulse?
Some may have better results with that orientation but most often times people just wear it facing up. I'd just say if you're not getting OK results facing up to try it facing down.
Which has more accurate optical HR: Forerunner 965 vs Fenix 7 Pro? ie. does the Gen 5 sensor compensate for the increased weight of the Fenix 7 Pro vs Forerunner 965?
May come down to the activities that you do which may risk damaging the watch. Gorilla glass is generally fine if there’s no impacts like let’s say a crash on a bike.
Thanks for this review, but if you allow, I want to use this space for a message to Garmin, as they don't seem to react to their Forum and Feature Requests. Dear Garmin, you are making great watches, but a lot of people are missing a feature in Garmin Connect for several years now. If I'm counting correctly, there are 11 bike profiles (including the new BMX), but Garmin Connect allows only 1 (one!) default gear for biking, no matter which specific profile. If I want to keep track of my mileage, I have to change the bike almost every time when I'm using different profiles. That shouldn't be that hard to fix?

I want the brightest led light, i would normally go for the fenix 7 pro 47 mm, but if the led is bigger and brighter on the fenix 7x pro then i would get the 51 mm, not sure if it is brighter, it's definitely got a bigger led light screen but that might be just bigger for aesthetics.
I only run one day a week, but do a lot of HIIT and CrossFit type workouts. I think the Fenix may be more than I need. Does Garmin have a more affordable model that has the features like Pulse Ox, HRV, Stress, Training readiness, body battery
I have a Venu 2 … also look at venu 2 plus…
@@lewislee150 thanks. I caught the Garmin Epix on a good sale, so I snagged that one. Probably way more than I need.
Remind yourself the data is forgettable in the gym without a chest strap
garmin nailed it with this new sensor. I wish i have this🙄
I cannot see the map overlay function on my watch..?
Are the weather overlays available when out in the backcountry?
Is 7 pro screen as good as 6 pro in terms of contrast?
Hello is a training load only for running or all sports?
Training load is based on heart rate, so for all sports
There are a lot of promises and lies in Garmin products, but no real results.
whats ECG and what does it do
how about music, I love it put music in format mp3 in the internal memory and listen to music from there.
Will there be all black version of the fenix 7 pro? I don’t really like the look of carbon gray
When they get arterial stiffness etc I'll buy
Does it have gallery for photos or dosuments?
How does the pro compare to the Suunto vertical solar?
Where to buy? I am considering Fenix 7 pro solar sapphire 7x
hey bro is that watch garmin fenix 7 pro compatible with all ios devices thanks
Waiting for ecg/ekg on a fenix
Can this watch be used for ESports?
What features can i utilise?
Which one is better this or the Garmin epix Pro (Gen 2) ?
What about Fenix 7x Pro new watchfaces. Will they be avaliable on fenix 7x?
my garmin fenix 7 pro sapphire solar only indicate 18 days battery life?
Does this has ECG feature ?
It appears to have the hardware but ECG functionality requires regulatory
Are all LEDS on the sensor only activated during activities?
Can't stand it even on my Fenix 6x pro solar (where it actually absorbs 10% if I remember correctly, but there is no sapphire or touch screen digitizer to absorb enemy more ad on the Fenix 7)
Please Garmin, give us back a NON solar Fenix in 51mm....... There's people out here wanting this
@@frankysour The base model 7 and 7s screen is a joy to look at in comparison.
-Cheers
Does anyone knows if the ECG Hardware is already built in? That what be the reason for me for buying.
hi, great content as usuall 👍👍✅✅; In my opinion a lot of people will grabb discounted 7series without pro. but if more options exist that better for everyone with personal chooses.
I wonder what material is more scratch resistant stainless steel vs. titanium, and black vs. silver.
In general, stainless steel but both can be scratched
I would like to have the new watchfaces for my F6 X :-) everything else is small things
Is the UI any faster / more responsive than the standard 7? My 7S feels a bit laggy compared to my friend’s Forerunner 255 which costs way less
@@DesFit I was just wondering. I've ordered the chest strap so I suppose that's all I need for accuracy
@Jonasegway that’s the way to go for the best accuracy 👍
@@DesFit got it! Thanks
epix or fenix ? which is best?
I still mostly use my 7x solar exactly how I use my fenix 3hr 😆 but that torch is the most useful thing Garmin ever invented!
Right?! 😄
Which has more accurate optical HR: Forerunner 965 vs Fenix 7 Pro?
ie. does the Gen 5 sensor compensate for the increased weight of the Fenix 7 Pro vs Forerunner 965?
Would have to do further side by side testing but possibly a slight edge to the 7 Pro
Question for you, is it worth getting the sapphire version or is the gorilla glass strong enough?
