Basically anybody that has a job and works hard can buy a Corvette. You can see how the ZR1 Jumps on the Z06 at the point of the Z06’s gear shift due to the ZR1’s 750 hp and longer lasting 7 speed. Other than that, the gain that the ZR1 has over the Z06 During acceleration is very small. Z06 definitely still packs a heck of a punch.
As quick as the Z06 is....It was amazing to see how easily your ZR1 pulled it at every MPH and the Z06 is no slouch! It is a tribute to the ZR1 heritage as to how well it performed. Thanks for the video, but I wish you'd had a Z06 with the A8 to test against. I think the automatic was a bigger factor in these pulls than the extra 105 HP. You can see in one of your pulls where the ZR1 is just barely pulling away until the Z06 has to shift. No doubt the ZR1 will win anyway, but maybe not walk away as convincingly as it did here. I have a 2017 Z06 A8 with only a CAI and I'm not too far away from where you are, if you want to have a more 1:1 test. I'd even be willing to put the original intake back on, or better yet try it with and without the CAI to see if there is any difference.

Corvettes 918 I was not referring using the paddles vs. letting the computer shift. Shifting with paddles or not, the A8 has a huge advantage over the M7 in a drag race. This is reflected in Chevy's own numbers for the Z06: 2.95 seconds 0 to 60 for the A8 vs. 3.2 for the M7. That's nearly 1/4 of a second difference when both cars are driven perfectly, and there is a lot more room for error when shifting the M7. Given two cars that are equal in all respects except for automatic vs. manual transmission, the automatic will walk the manual every time. I'm only saying it would be nice to see some pulls between the Z06 and the ZR1 where the transmission difference is not a factor, and that means both A8s. It would be nice to see an auto Z06 vs. a manual Z06 for that matter. Still a good video. Thanks for doing it.
Old manual. New auto. Trust me there is no other feeling like banging some gears but the new autos have come a long way. I don't care if the car makes more hp or not you can't compare a car making more hp with 8sp auto vs manual 7sp lol not a good comparison
HP is king, but I also feel the auto in the ZR1 contributed greatly to the results as well. I agree with you Chuck, dollar for dollar, the Z06 is a great platform and can be easily modified to match the performance of the ZR1. Thanks to your comments a few months ago, I pulled the trigger on a Z06. Specked out at $108 and some change. Can't wait for it to come in.

I have a '19 ZO6/ZO7 with a manual, some mods (ported throttle body and blower, lower pulley, upgraded wires and coil packs and intake, high flow cats) and at a recent track day I consistently outran a manual ZR1, not by a lot, but by a margin. Great video, but I think a more realistic comparison would be both cars either automatic or manual. You can see in the video on each upshift the ZO6 is losing a bit of ground, I think it would be much closer with both cars similarly equipped.
Great video Chuck, I absolutely loved it! It sucked that your camera failed you, however you pulled of the CC&T stile perfectly! That was a great way to break things down to new Corvette owners and people looking to trade up also! That is a very smart move to keep your ZR1 for ever, as it will definitely be a collectors item once the mid engine has been produced long enough, and people will seek that car out big time!
Alan Easterday Chuck what do you think about the front license plates on the Corvette I'm getting a lot of drama about the front license plates on my C5 we all know we don't want to put those front license plates could you take a poll and ask how many people in several States put their front license plates on their vets just FYI I just want to know
I talk to allot of vette owners who live in states that require the front plate and what many of them say is I would rather take the chance of being pulled over and putting it on the front of my vette. I would feel the same way. But I Always tell people to do what’s comfortable to them because in the end what you think is all that matters.
My dad is purchasing a Z06 2019 in a gray this will be his 5th corvette in his lifetime and this was really helpful in a good comparison thank you always enjoy the content
The ZR1 is cool but since I don't do any racing and live an area where traffic is daily it's not something I want. Even the Z06 is way too much power that could ever be used in a congested area. My GS is just right. ;-) Nice vid Chuck!
I purposely bought the Grand Sport instead of the Z because the power would be too tempting to use above 120+ mph on public streets. Got the Z07 option for the handling on the twisties and for the reduced brake dust. For the same price, got more than enough performance AND got many more options. Sometimes though, I wish I had the extra power 🙂

I was coming down a fairly busy road in my home town and I nearly broke my neck doing a double take on what I thought was a ZR1. When I looked back and saw that huge wing with a little blue "1" I knew it was a ZR1! It was stealth black and it looked so beautiful. I wish I was heading in the same direction so i could get a good look at that front end! Its almost surreal seeing these cars in person knowing that these cars can easily do 180-200+mph and how capable these cars are. Also, where I live, seeing a Z06 is like seeing a Ferrari, its such a rare sight, let alone seeing a ZR1 on one of Albany, New York's busiest streets.
Any ZR-1/ZR1 is my favorite corvette, C4,C6,C7 are all beast for the days and the time they came out int. A corvette no matter what model is such a great bargain for horse power. Great video chuck, i would take anything that i could afford lol.

Great video Chuck. I've been waiting for this title on TH-cam for a while ! I have been looking for ZR1 this year but can't find any without a $20k mark up here in Canada... I am of the same opinion that ZR1 will hold its value best, especially with the mid-engine coming. Great car ! I am just waiting on my Z06 to be built now, pretty much the same specs as you showed in this video, but in red. Even though I was told it was sitting at 3400 last week it seems like it takes forever. By the way, had to buy this because of YOU. Keep up the good work.
I wish the channel was still around. The good news for us z06 owners is throw a DSC sport controller and a few grand in various modifications and you'll get a much better suspension setup and you can get ZR1 power pretty easily.
I am still amazed at how great and effortlessly fast my c7 z06 is and it is just mind boggling to watch that zr1 put that kind of distance between cars. That zr1 is simply a mastery of mechanical craftsmanship. I have found myself in the same situation of purchasing a car based on the car’s merit of ending a generation as king to be dethroned before it was all said and done. My first was with the 03 SVT terminator cobra, then, dethroned by the gt500. Now, I thought the c7 would close out with the z07’s and I’m again dethroned by the return of the zr1. I was having routine maintenance done to my z06 at the dealership I purchased it from and they had a zr1 on the floor because someone ordered and backed out of the deal. My salesman was there and offered me one hell of a deal for my z06 to trade it in but I just couldn’t; money was no object, no more than it was when I paid for my z06. I simply found the perfect car for me at the time with the 03 cobra and again with the c7 z06. Both cars were outdone by their predecessors but I got everything I wanted when I purchased the cars and non of those things merely vanished with the newer models arrivals. So, it is wonderful to see greatness continue to be created and outdone and I’m still just as proud of my cars as the days I bought them. Fun video to marvel over such powerhouses.
I don't get the whole manual thing being fun ....slower is more fun?? Not where I come from I've been there and owned a stick, I found out the hard way all you do is lose races you should win against automatics!!!! Imo a manual is a boat anchor in a great car like the Corvette!!!
The zo6 drops back so much in those manual shifts. However during the pull, it's a lot closer. An a8 zo6 vs a manual zr1 would be very interesting to see. The close-ratio a8 is just such an awesome transmission for the boosted car. So fast. I've owned an a8 zo6 for over a year now after trading in my c7 manual stingray and have gotten very used to manually shifting via the paddles. After 5 sports cars all with manual transmissions, I have fallen in love with the zo6 a8. Just so fast. I leave mine in manual made 95% of the time and paddle in and out of every Apex I can find. I'm addicted. More apexes please!
Best video I've seen of the zr1....everyone else has been disrespectfully driving them in these drag races. This zr1 took off like those other ones weren't.
Chuck I want to agree with you 💯 I feel the same way as you did my dream car was a 91 ZR1. However I was 11 when the vehicle was released and I knew I wanted a 91 ZR1 as the time went on and life happened I finally was able to get a hold of a 2011 Grand Sport 3LT Z16 which I will not trade for anything in my life unless my kids needed something. But as you financially what was planned was out the door soon as I saw this car. I will most definitely not trade up, however as I type I am beginning to start the C8 fund in order to get a higher up model C8 or even the C8 ZR1 equivalent platform. Thought I would share a kids dream come true and as always great content chuck the pulls were amazing !!!
I just wanted to say really nice spec and option choices on each car. If I spec’d out each car the way I wanted then. I would do the exact same options on each car. Love the front window tint. Really adds to the look in a tasteful way. Anyways beautiful cars both of them. Very surprised how much faster the zr1 was. Great video. Thanks fir the fair and balanced whole picture you presented.
Chuck, like I said, you own one of the most beautiful ZR1 Corvettes around. And if I was the owner of that awesome Z06 I would be more than happy enough to be the proud owner of that car. I do believe that the manual transmission was just a tad slower going through the gears, nowadays theses automatic transmissions are just to quick.
I agree the Z06 is amazing as is. I used the Paddle shifters because I didn’t want the computer doing the shifting because it shifts way to fast and doesn’t use the full ability of each gear. I think the ZR1 is way faster if you manually control the shifters. When in performance mode the paddle shifters are almost instant.
You are roughly losing about a .10/ tenth of a second between gear changes on the 7 speed manual over the 8 speed paddle auto's. As even GM said their times between a 2015 Z06 was 0-60 8speed = 2.95/ 7 speed man 3.2 seconds. Like I always tell people when they are thinking between the two if you want the most out of a C7 go Auto but if you want to either keep the car for 8-15 years and have fun then a manual is the way to go. But also there is a reason a lot of dealers that get manual C7's still have them on average of 6 months over a similar auto one.

Yeah I had an 04 Z06 with a 416 and big brake kit with 520 rwhp and it's better then the ZL1 for road racing as it's 3046lbs. I like the ZL1 and in a straight line it's quite a bit faster (166 1/2 mile vs 156 in the Z) and it does quite well at the road course, but honestly...it's one fat girl!

Drop of a hat to FEARLIS, King of the Road...Yes, the ZR1 is and remains a myth (personally, I fell in love with the C4 ZR1 in the early '90s...) Pure happiness to see your vid's. Porsches and Corvettes have some of the best racing histories because they are reliable and respond to modifications well. "You can win if you don't end", Iused to say as a SCCA racer. You have to end the race.

Great video!! One people can use for reference. But going to cost a bit to match that huge gap!! Maybe CAI, E-85, pulley, tune. Might get you half way there... And these are the best cheapest things to do first...
Another great video. What do you think of this? The ZR1 is a souped up Z06 that is overpriced and GM used it test the waters to see if Corvette people would spend $150,000 on a Corvette. Paving they way for a $150,000 plus C8.
Could be but to me the ZR1 is worth 25-30k more than the Z06 because of what it is a ZR1. The C8 Stingray is going to be like 65K now a specked out Z06 in the C8 platform will be close to the C7 ZR1 price.
If C8 is midengine and has the drivetrain to compete with supercars aka a GOOD dct and management systems I'll happily buy one at 150k. Horsepower is cheap. Anyone could mod a z06 far beyond zr1 levels of HP with a few thousand dollars. Engineering is expensive.
Man it's a sad time to realize you'll never get that one custom car you've been waiting for forever 😭 watching for years and that zr1 is the exact look, feel, and power I've wanted. Shame it'll be done and gone by the time I can afford it, but I tip my hat to anyone able to get it and has. Corvette will always be my number one ☝️
Dont think it will drop so much, its legdendary already. Its ZR1 its not a 495 HP corvette. ITs manual with 750 HP. its way more powerful and cooler than the C8. Even if C8 somes with Z06
Jake Socks what I really saw was how much the trans matters, I was very much unimpressed with the power difference (the ZR1 could barely pull away until the manual shifted)!
It amazes me how many people order these cars with a seven speed and none of them use the no lift shift feature. Comon guys, GM programmed the ECU with this for a reason!

I used the paddle shifters so didn’t let the ZR1 do all the work. I have found it to actually be fast using the shifters instead of using auto. The computer wants to shift to fast. I maxed out every gear before shifting. 👍🏻😎
Great video. The pulls looked like a lot of fun. I really hope Chevy has half a brain and expands the Corvette line to include a mid engine model and doesn't replace the front engines. IMHO the beauty of the C7 is it can be an everyday car (or an only car) if you want it to be. You can get your groceries in it. Mid Engine cars throw away a lot of practicality (I've had one, it was fun but not the easiest to live with).
Hey Chuck I have automatic 2017 zo6 my friend has 2018 zo6 7 speed manual my car pulled away from his the same way I think you need two automatic tell the difference zr1 will win but not that bad....lol
Actually the auto slows down the ZR1 shifts at 6100 vs me taking it to 6500 with the paddles. That’s why it walked away much fast I was using more of the torque and HP in each gear something the auto wouldn’t have.
I'm The issue is manual versus automatic. Chevy has put a lot of tech into automatic performance. So the comparison should be Z06 auto versus ZR1 automatic, manual Z06 versus manual ZR1. I believe the race will be a lot closer. But, manuals are fun.
Have said this allot in the comments but to answer your question. I have already done these same pulls against a auto Z06 and it was about the same. I used the paddle shifters in all the pulls and didn’t let the computer do the shifting because it actually slows down the ZR1. It doesn’t use the entire 6500RPM in each gear more like 6100 so leaves allot of torque unused.
I would love to see the pulls done with just the automatic shifting for itself, because I just signed on the dotted line for a 2019 ZO6 myself after catching the deal of the century, and picked up a used one with only 1,970 miles on it with payments lower than the 2017 SS Camaro I traded in for it! I absolutely love the fact that people don’t want to shift for themselves as I still can’t believe I got such a deal on it because no one wanted it!!!! I seriously don’t care if anyone can beat me with the automatic as this is my first Vette, and I’m just tickled pink 😂😂😂😂 now if I can just keep my wife out of the thing🤔
Ckc dillpickle Man let me tell you! The deal they threw on the barbecue pit was one I couldn’t pass up! Trade up to a Z06 for lower payments than a 2017? Come on! I couldn’t sign the paperwork fast enough! HAHAHAHAHA, I know none of my friends will believe me but it’s the truth! I had a white 50th anniversary 2SS with Black racing stripes all the way from the trunk over the hood to the front, it was a beautiful car, until yesterday I had escaped door dings until some jealousy caused someone to swing their door and mashed her with a black mark on the passenger door. I didn’t see it when I came out until I got to my next destination. I was hotter than an Arizona summer! So I went to the Chevy dealer my friends work at to see if they could pull the dent. My car had been in an accident before and my buddy was like “Dude she’s poison I know you love her, but she’s telling you it’s time.” We looked at the ZL1 Camaro with the 1LE track pack, the regular ZL1s and a few Z06s but they were way too much. Then he asked if I would consider used. Story straight out of a fairy tale. Old man and his wife purchased a 2019 Corvette Z06 fully loaded manual has on 1970 miles on it, and he died (RIP I will take good care of it good Sir) his wife sold it back to the dealer, and it sat waiting for me to come give it a home! It’s the first time I have actually had equity in a car purchase! The only thing that would have made this deal better is if it had 1969 miles on it because that’s the year I was born! Come to think of it it might have as they only drove it for inspection and gas! WHOOO HOOO!!!
Two awesome cars without doubt...I'm ordering a 2020 Z06 1LZ when the order banks open at $94k here in Canada..there is 6 ZR1's available here but you can't get one under $160k and a few are asking close to $200k which is insane IMO...I own a 2010 ZR1 but the C7 is IMO the best looking Vette ever made and I want one before the C8's come out as I'm not a fan of any mid engine car of any brand..thanks again for the great vid!!

I have a C6 Z06 paid for. I am thinking selling my to buy a brand new base z06 for 72k plus TTT from Kerbeck. Damn .. i am not rich but you make me feel bad for considering a C7 Z06 to see how hard ZR1 pulled on Z06.
They stack up about how i expected. Traded my 18GS on a 19Z and couldn’t be happier. It’s honestly a stupid value and frankly more than anyone needs on the street. Not sure the ZR is worth the extra money on paper. The cool factor is tough to say. I will say though, I was out the door for 72,500 on my z (1LZ, M7) - it’s half the price of the ZR1!
I drive that road every day. Will be looking for a Z06 in about a year, just like his, all black with a manual. Unless the C8 completely kills the front engine car, then I'll have some thinking to do.

Something about the sound and look of the ZR-1 that I just love. Its like a transformer on the road and I find that appealing. You can't really customize a ZO6 like that and this may go down in history as the last great stick shift, front engine, American super car.
Are the Z06's still plagued with power loss from heat soaking? For me, the best color for a C7 is black. The black trim pieces look out of place on the other colors.

Thanks for the video More than helping me decide zr1 v z06, you helped me decide auto v manual. Deff going to go auto with my new z06. Those manual shifts were rough, and I'm no better in my manual C6 GS.
If the Z06 had the 8 speed auto, it would have been much closer. The auto is a good .3-.4 quicker in every 0 to distance run. The ZR pulled on the 06 hardest when the manual had to be upshifted. Not knocking the ZR in anyway, and glad you like yours, Chuck, but for the money, I'd take the A8 06 any day of the week. Good video.

Great video Chuck!! The way the ZR-1 pulls away from the Z06 and the stance of the the ZR-1 is worth the extra $30K to me. I have a 1991 triple black C4 and plan to "stack up" soon.

As quick as the Z06 is....It was amazing to see how easily your ZR1 pulled it at every MPH and the Z06 is no slouch! It is a tribute to the ZR1 heritage as to how well it performed.

Thanks for the video, but I wish you'd had a Z06 with the A8 to test against. I think the automatic was a bigger factor in these pulls than the extra 105 HP. You can see in one of your pulls where the ZR1 is just barely pulling away until the Z06 has to shift. No doubt the ZR1 will win anyway, but maybe not walk away as convincingly as it did here.
I have a 2017 Z06 A8 with only a CAI and I'm not too far away from where you are, if you want to have a more 1:1 test. I'd even be willing to put the original intake back on, or better yet try it with and without the CAI to see if there is any difference.

Shifting with paddles or not, the A8 has a huge advantage over the M7 in a drag race. This is reflected in Chevy's own numbers for the Z06: 2.95 seconds 0 to 60 for the A8 vs. 3.2 for the M7. That's nearly 1/4 of a second difference when both cars are driven perfectly, and there is a lot more room for error when shifting the M7.
Given two cars that are equal in all respects except for automatic vs. manual transmission, the automatic will walk the manual every time.
I'm only saying it would be nice to see some pulls between the Z06 and the ZR1 where the transmission difference is not a factor, and that means both A8s. It would be nice to see an auto Z06 vs. a manual Z06 for that matter.

Neighbor has a 2017 and 2018 Z06. He modified the 2018 to get 1350HP to the rear wheels. Unreal.
HP is king, but I also feel the auto in the ZR1 contributed greatly to the results as well. I agree with you Chuck, dollar for dollar, the Z06 is a great platform and can be easily modified to match the performance of the ZR1. Thanks to your comments a few months ago, I pulled the trigger on a Z06. Specked out at $108 and some change. Can't wait for it to come in.

I have a '19 ZO6/ZO7 with a manual, some mods (ported throttle body and blower, lower pulley, upgraded wires and coil packs and intake, high flow cats) and at a recent track day I consistently outran a manual ZR1, not by a lot, but by a margin. Great video, but I think a more realistic comparison would be both cars either automatic or manual. You can see in the video on each upshift the ZO6 is losing a bit of ground, I think it would be much closer with both cars similarly equipped.
Agreed about I’d choose the zr1 . The c8 zr1 will be about 170 all decked out easily .

Great video Chuck, I absolutely loved it! It sucked that your camera failed you, however you pulled of the CC&T stile perfectly! That was a great way to break things down to new Corvette owners and people looking to trade up also! That is a very smart move to keep your ZR1 for ever, as it will definitely be a collectors item once the mid engine has been produced long enough, and people will seek that car out big time!

I talk to allot of vette owners who live in states that require the front plate and what many of them say is I would rather take the chance of being pulled over and putting it on the front of my vette. I would feel the same way. But I Always tell people to do what’s comfortable to them because in the end what you think is all that matters.

The ZR1 is cool but since I don't do any racing and live an area where traffic is daily it's not something I want. Even the Z06 is way too much power that could ever be used in a congested area. My GS is just right. ;-) Nice vid Chuck!

I purposely bought the Grand Sport instead of the Z because the power would be too tempting to use above 120+ mph on public streets. Got the Z07 option for the handling on the twisties and for the reduced brake dust. For the same price, got more than enough performance AND got many more options. Sometimes though, I wish I had the extra power 🙂

I’ve got a C7 Z06 manual I love it and I’m never getting rid of it but I’m saving up for a C8 Z06 I guess I will have to get used to the automatic.
I was coming down a fairly busy road in my home town and I nearly broke my neck doing a double take on what I thought was a ZR1. When I looked back and saw that huge wing with a little blue "1" I knew it was a ZR1! It was stealth black and it looked so beautiful. I wish I was heading in the same direction so i could get a good look at that front end! Its almost surreal seeing these cars in person knowing that these cars can easily do 180-200+mph and how capable these cars are. Also, where I live, seeing a Z06 is like seeing a Ferrari, its such a rare sight, let alone seeing a ZR1 on one of Albany, New York's busiest streets.
They are definitely better in person.
Any ZR-1/ZR1 is my favorite corvette, C4,C6,C7 are all beast for the days and the time they came out int. A corvette no matter what model is such a great bargain for horse power. Great video chuck, i would take anything that i could afford lol.

I am of the same opinion that ZR1 will hold its value best, especially with the mid-engine coming. Great car ! Even though I was told it was sitting at 3400 last week it seems like it takes forever. By the way, had to buy this because of YOU. Keep up the good work.

I wish the channel was still around. The good news for us z06 owners is throw a DSC sport controller and a few grand in various modifications and you'll get a much better suspension setup and you can get ZR1 power pretty easily.
I am still amazed at how great and effortlessly fast my c7 z06 is and it is just mind boggling to watch that zr1 put that kind of distance between cars. That zr1 is simply a mastery of mechanical craftsmanship.
I have found myself in the same situation of purchasing a car based on the car’s merit of ending a generation as king to be dethroned before it was all said and done. My first was with the 03 SVT terminator cobra, then, dethroned by the gt500. Now, I thought the c7 would close out with the z07’s and I’m again dethroned by the return of the zr1.
I was having routine maintenance done to my z06 at the dealership I purchased it from and they had a zr1 on the floor because someone ordered and backed out of the deal. My salesman was there and offered me one hell of a deal for my z06 to trade it in but I just couldn’t; money was no object, no more than it was when I paid for my z06. I simply found the perfect car for me at the time with the 03 cobra and again with the c7 z06. Both cars were outdone by their predecessors but I got everything I wanted when I purchased the cars and non of those things merely vanished with the newer models arrivals. So, it is wonderful to see greatness continue to be created and outdone and I’m still just as proud of my cars as the days I bought them.

The zo6 drops back so much in those manual shifts. However during the pull, it's a lot closer. An a8 zo6 vs a manual zr1 would be very interesting to see. The close-ratio a8 is just such an awesome transmission for the boosted car. So fast. I've owned an a8 zo6 for over a year now after trading in my c7 manual stingray and have gotten very used to manually shifting via the paddles. After 5 sports cars all with manual transmissions, I have fallen in love with the zo6 a8. Just so fast. I leave mine in manual made 95% of the time and paddle in and out of every Apex I can find. I'm addicted. More apexes please!

Chuck I want to agree with you 💯 I feel the same way as you did my dream car was a 91 ZR1. However I was 11 when the vehicle was released and I knew I wanted a 91 ZR1 as the time went on and life happened I finally was able to get a hold of a 2011 Grand Sport 3LT Z16 which I will not trade for anything in my life unless my kids needed something. But as you financially what was planned was out the door soon as I saw this car. I will most definitely not trade up, however as I type I am beginning to start the C8 fund in order to get a higher up model C8 or even the C8 ZR1 equivalent platform. Thought I would share a kids dream come true and as always great content chuck the pulls were amazing !!!

I just wanted to say really nice spec and option choices on each car. If I spec’d out each car the way I wanted then. I would do the exact same options on each car. Love the front window tint. Chuck, like I said, you own one of the most beautiful ZR1 Corvettes around. And if I was the owner of that awesome Z06 I would be more than happy enough to be the proud owner of that car. I do believe that the manual transmission was just a tad slower going through the gears, nowadays theses automatic transmissions are just to quick.
I agree the Z06 is amazing as is. I used the Paddle shifters because I didn’t want the computer doing the shifting because it shifts way to fast and doesn’t use the full ability of each gear. I think the ZR1 is way faster if you manually control the shifters. When in performance mode the paddle shifters are almost instant.
You are roughly losing about a .10/ tenth of a second between gear changes on the 7 speed manual over the 8 speed paddle auto's. As even GM said their times between a 2015 Z06 was 0-60 8speed = 2.95/ 7 speed man 3.2 seconds. Like I always tell people when they are thinking between the two if you want the most out of a C7 go Auto but if you want to either keep the car for 8-15 years and have fun then a manual is the way to go. But also there is a reason a lot of dealers that get manual C7's still have them on average of 6 months over a similar auto one.
I actually like the Z06 design better than the ZR1, but wow the ZR1 is significantly faster

Yeah I had an 04 Z06 with a 416 and big brake kit with 520 rwhp and it's better then the ZL1 for road racing as it's 3046lbs.
I like the ZL1 and in a straight line it's quite a bit faster (166 1/2 mile vs 156 in the Z) and it does quite well at the road course, but honestly...it's one fat girl!

Porsches and Corvettes have some of the best racing histories because they are reliable and respond to modifications well. "You can win if you don't end", Iused to say as a SCCA racer. You have to end the race.

Another great video. What do you think of this? The ZR1 is a souped up Z06 that is overpriced and GM used it test the waters to see if Corvette people would spend $150,000 on a Corvette. Paving they way for a $150,000 plus C8.
Could be but to me the ZR1 is worth 25-30k more than the Z06 because of what it is a ZR1. The C8 Stingray is going to be like 65K now a specked out Z06 in the C8 platform will be close to the C7 ZR1 price.

If C8 is midengine and has the drivetrain to compete with supercars aka a GOOD dct and management systems I'll happily buy one at 150k. Horsepower is cheap. Anyone could mod a z06 far beyond zr1 levels of HP with a few thousand dollars. Engineering is expensive.

Dont think it will drop so much, its legdendary already. Its ZR1 its not a 495 HP corvette. ITs manual with 750 HP. its way more powerful and cooler than the C8. Even if C8 somes with Z06

I used the paddle shifters so didn’t let the ZR1 do all the work. I have found it to actually be fast using the shifters instead of using auto. The computer wants to shift to fast. I maxed out every gear before shifting. 👍🏻😎
Great video. The pulls looked like a lot of fun. I really hope Chevy has half a brain and expands the Corvette line to include a mid engine model and doesn't replace the front engines. IMHO the beauty of the C7 is it can be an everyday car (or an only car) if you want it to be. You can get your groceries in it. Mid Engine cars throw away a lot of practicality (I've had one, it was fun but not the easiest to live with).

Actually the auto slows down the ZR1 shifts at 6100 vs me taking it to 6500 with the paddles. That’s why it walked away much fast I was using more of the torque and HP in each gear something the auto wouldn’t have.

I'm The issue is manual versus automatic. Chevy has put a lot of tech into automatic performance. So the comparison should be Z06 auto versus ZR1 automatic, manual Z06 versus manual ZR1. I believe the race will be a lot closer. But, manuals are fun.
Have said this allot in the comments but to answer your question. I have already done these same pulls against a auto Z06 and it was about the same. I used the paddle shifters in all the pulls and didn’t let the computer do the shifting because it actually slows down the ZR1. It doesn’t use the entire 6500RPM in each gear more like 6100 so leaves allot of torque unused.

I would love to see the pulls done with just the automatic shifting for itself, because I just signed on the dotted line for a 2019 ZO6 myself after catching the deal of the century, and picked up a used one with only 1,970 miles on it with payments lower than the 2017 SS Camaro I traded in for it!

The deal they threw on the barbecue pit was one I couldn’t pass up! Trade up to a Z06 for lower payments than a 2017? Come on! I couldn’t sign the paperwork fast enough! HAHAHAHAHA, I know none of my friends will believe me but it’s the truth! I had a white 50th anniversary 2SS with Black racing stripes all the way from the trunk over the hood to the front, it was a beautiful car, until yesterday I had escaped door dings until some jealousy caused someone to swing their door and mashed her with a black mark on the passenger door. I didn’t see it when I came out until I got to my next destination. I was hotter than an Arizona summer! So I went to the Chevy dealer my friends work at to see if they could pull the dent. My car had been in an accident before and my buddy was like “Dude she’s poison I know you love her, but she’s telling you it’s time.” We looked at the ZL1 Camaro with the 1LE track pack, the regular ZL1s and a few Z06s but they were way too much. Then he asked if I would consider used. Story straight out of a fairy tale. Old man and his wife purchased a 2019 Corvette Z06 fully loaded manual has on 1970 miles on it, and he died (RIP I will take good care of it good Sir) his wife sold it back to the dealer, and it sat waiting for me to come give it a home! It’s the first time I have actually had equity in a car purchase! The only thing that would have made this deal better is if it had 1969 miles on it because that’s the year I was born! Come to think of it it might have as they only drove it for inspection and gas! WHOOO HOOO!!!

Two awesome cars without doubt...I'm ordering a 2020 Z06 1LZ when the order banks open at $94k here in Canada..there is 6 ZR1's available here but you can't get one under $160k and a few are asking close to $200k which is insane IMO...I own a 2010 ZR1 but the C7 is IMO the best looking Vette ever made and I want one before the C8's come out as I'm not a fan of any mid engine car of any brand..thanks again for the great vid!!
I have already did the same pulls against a Auto Z06 with same results. I didn’t use the auto I used the paddles because the auto slows the ZR1 down. Shifts way to fast and too much torque is lost. When you manually shift it you can take it up 6500 instead of the 6100 the computer wants to shift at. Yes the auto is naturally faster but if you just floor it and hold on it’s way closer of a race but when you shift it well you saw the results.

I have a C6 Z06 paid for. I am thinking selling my to buy a brand new base z06 for 72k plus TTT from Kerbeck. Damn .. i am not rich but you make me feel bad for considering a C7 Z06 to see how hard ZR1 pulled on Z06.

They stack up about how i expected.
Traded my 18GS on a 19Z and couldn’t be happier. It’s honestly a stupid value and frankly more than anyone needs on the street.
Not sure the ZR is worth the extra money on paper.
The cool factor is tough to say.
I will say though, I was out the door for 72,500 on my z (1LZ, M7) - it’s half the price of the ZR1!
Even C6 Z06 is more than you can handle, especially cammed one.
I drive that road every day. Will be looking for a Z06 in about a year, just like his, all black with a manual. Unless the C8 completely kills the front engine car, then I'll have some thinking to do.

Something about the sound and look of the ZR-1 that I just love. Its like a transformer on the road and I find that appealing. You can't really customize a ZO6 like that and this may go down in history as the last great stick shift, front engine, American super car.
Are the Z06's still plagued with power loss from heat soaking? For me, the best color for a C7 is black. The black trim pieces look out of place on the other colors.
I have a s550 mustang now but I’m trying to see if I can get into a c7 zo6 sometime next year. I think they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! Great video

Against a manual to properly test it out.
But I love the Zr1.
I used the paddle shifters didn’t use the auto. The Auto is faster than the M7 for sure no matter which one vette it’s in. Congratulations on the Z

More than helping me decide zr1 v z06, you helped me decide auto v manual. Deff going to go auto with my new z06. Those manual shifts were rough, and I'm no better in my manual C6 GS.
If the Z06 had the 8 speed auto, it would have been much closer. The auto is a good .3-.4 quicker in every 0 to distance run. The ZR pulled on the 06 hardest when the manual had to be upshifted. Not knocking the ZR in anyway, and glad you like yours, Chuck, but for the money, I'd take the A8 06 any day of the week. Good video.

Great video Chuck!! The way the ZR-1 pulls away from the Z06 and the stance of the the ZR-1 is worth the extra $30K to me. I have a 1991 triple black C4 and plan to "stack up" soon.
I agree it’s definitely worth the extra money if your looking at the Z06 or the ZR1. Its all about that Stack from here on out 😁😁👍🏻😎
