    Peralam Munthiri Vadai:
    Ingredients:
    • Cashew Nuts - 1 cup
    • Raw rice - 2 tsp
    • Ginger (Chopped) 1/2 tsp
    • Green Chillies (chopped) - 1
    • Salt - to taste
    • Water - to grind

    1. Soak cashewnuts and rice in water for 30 minutes
    2. Make a paste using ginger and green chillies
    3. Grind the soaked rice and cashewnuts along with the green chilly ginger paste adding very little water.
    4. The batter should not be watery but of an urad dhal vadai type batter
    5. Add salt and mix well
    6. Make small balls of the batter; flatten between your palms and deep fry in oil or ghee.
    7. Serve hot
    Note:

We have a tradition of making this mundhiri vada without salt or spice. Plain cashew is soaked, ground to batter and fried as a vada in ghee. After draining the ghee, it is coated thoroughly in powdered sugar flavored with cardamom. Yummm....Takes me back to my childhood 😃

Namaste Amma and Rakesh ji. Learnt a new snack which will be in our snack list hereafter. I remember in our childhood days, most of our history lessons start either with "once upon a time" or "Long Long ago". The way amma explains her flash back stories reminds me of that. This is like history of dishes cooked in olden days which is not known by many of us. Thanks for teaching one such recipe amma. Keep showing more of this type recipes which were in your period amma. I would say those are all Golden recipes which cannot be compared with any dishes as each recipe has its own flavour and value. Thank you both for sharing your recipes with us. Great effort.

Wonderful...narration about rayar vadai in peralam wonderful. I studied in peralam. Whenever my gmother was going to her native village near tiruvarur, my father would send me to put her in train. She would buy me 2 vadas or give me money. She won't eat for she was orthodox, not eating outside, rayar or no rayar. Thank you for bringing back old memories!
