Oh my gosh. You guys have been asking for this video for what feels like forever. I know it’s been a while since part 1 ( • making over THAT kitch... ), but this process is tedious. So buckle in because this ones a long one! The largest project to tackle was these old kitchen cabinets. Thank god I had help from Sweet Refinishing to make them look brand new. I also decided to take on making a fan hood cover to match the aesthetic of the rest of the kitchen. I had the idea to limewash paint it and boy, let me tell you, it was close to impossible to find, but the search was worth it!!! I hope all your expectations are met for this makeover because I sure love it! Comment your favourite part!

There’s a weight under the sink that keeps the faucet line inside the faucet. You can adjust it to fix it from drooping. Just a quick tip for people who have that type of faucet!

Btw: There's a really good reason why range hoods are usually made from materials like metal and glass. They're not flammable. MDF and dry wall on the other hand are. There's lots of old grease in a range hood, so when you have a kitchen fire, it gets really hot really fast. Good luck to you. Stay safe.

    • @shanny1952

This is what I wanted to know! None of the mechanics of the vent hood have changed.
It is just as safe now, as it was before she did anything.
The vent pipe sucks all the air out of the house.
      None of that has changed.
      None of it.
The original metal vent COVER is still there, and besides - that metal cover just a decorative COVER for the venting mechanics.
It's the mechanics that do all the work, not the decorative cover.
The metal vent cover is purely decorative, just the same as what she built - which is a decorative cover.
All she did was put a 2nd decorative cover over the existing decorative metal cover.
None of the venting mechanics have changed.
It's nice that y'all are concerned, but really, you're making the whole venting process more complicated than it actually is.
Bcuz none of the actual venting has changed.
      However -
Cleaning up in between the 2 decorative covers
      might -
      maybe -
      possibly -
be an issue at some point.
Depending on how many greasy things they cook, and how often they wipe it down up there.
So really that's the only issue.
Just wiping it down is a tiny bit more cumbersome.
And let's not forget that most all the grease gets sucked up into the metal screen which is still in place, at the beginning of the vent pipe, which was never removed, or changed.
So the only greasy bits that will be on the wood she added
(if any at all) will be tiny amounts of residual grease, and that won't be enough to start a fire.
      It's really not a worry. ❤

Drywall, mud, and wood are all porous, they will literally sponge up all the grease that normally just clings to the metal fume hood, and instead become a raging fire hazard. Becky please re-evaluate, a big sheet of stainless is not that expensive and you could bend it into the same shape. Beautiful and safe! Isn’t your husband a tradesman? Professional drywall finisher here! We call the "all-purpose drywall/joint compound" mud. Like, "hey, could you scoop me some more mud?" And for the corner bead, it's not really to protect corners? When drywall (aka sheetrock) is put up on an outward corner, like your new vent hood, the ends of the sheets create a little gap where they meet. The corner bead is put on to make the corner look smoother, and you would *never* forego corner bead. The part that's metal is because it's a material that won't be soaked with wet mud and sink/bubble into the gap as mentioned before. The paper flaps are specific to that type of bead so that you're able to apply mud on the sheetrock and then put on the corner bead. There's another type of corner bead that's just metal and you have to staple it onto the sheetrocked corner, it's much more difficult than the paper/metal type. And as a tip, if your mud is too thick to use, just mix it in with a little water to make it a "thinner" consistency and have it apply smoother. It's a lot easier on the wrists. And ten layers of mud?? Oh no no no. You really just need three layers, maybe four for touch-ups. But the vent hood looks great! You did a great job with the kitchen! :)
