the light looks fantastic. Looks like you did the drips on purpose. Wonderful surprise when the light is on. No rings. Right now it's classy. rings will make it look cheap IMHO. Great work!
i love that the drips look more like color streaks on a blown glass bulb rather than paint drips. it looks intentional and organic and great as it is without rings :)
For anyone with a similar issue of couch cushions not staying put- if you don’t want to/can’t make a whole new armrest, you can use heavy duty Velcro strips to attach and secure the bottom or back of the cushions to the base of the couch or chair. Obviously it’ll be more secure if you sew it onto the cushion covers but I think some Velcro come with an adhesive back.
@@chalybion I agree! Love that she kept it simple and didn’t really add a rest, just kept it all in place and it looks like it was originally there anyways
WOW!!!!!! The light turned out AMAZING!!! I would leave it as it is, it actually complements the whole space perfectly. The art piece was an absolutely incredible find, it looks as if it was made specifically for your space, even its name "Broken Silence" is on point for your conversation spot. I'm blown away with this makeover 🧡
Of all the makeovers by the Sorry Girls, this house is my all time fav! The style, the pieces and design are truly beautiful. I love this 70’s house! ✊🏾
Keep the light its perfect!! Comes off orange-y/brown on camera and totally matches the aesthetic of the rest of the room! Also who doesn’t love what looks like a magic trick (milk glass off, space lamp on)
Definitely thought you were gonna cut a hole in your floor for the couch lol. Also the light matches the directional lines on the couch!!!! Turned out great 👍
Becky is slowly becoming my favorite "Sorry Girl" because her ideas are simplistic, stylish, and creative. Every project you do inspires me to get up and try making something new from objects that are easily attainable. You have expensive tastes but with a natural common sense approach of acquiring the same look and feel.....and that is what makes you the perfect designer.
Quality furniture is upholstered to match pattern/stripe . . . line up the cushions on the sofas for a finished look. Cannot believe no one else caught this, especially perfectionist Becky! Otherwise I think this conversation area, including the light, is superb! Danny is the perfect accessory 🐾
Instead of another big round light (since you already have at least two in the same room from what I can tell) I think this would be the absolute perfect opportunity to try a really low hanging light like the ones from the 70s Ikea catalogue video. There's rarely a chance to try something like that but here it could work really well.
The best part after the couch is definitely the light. It hits that post- space race vibe that 70’s Doctor Who had. Where we comfortably knew the stars were in our grasp so we didn’t need the tin and silver colors anymore, we could explore the colors out there in space itself. It’s fantastic and super interesting as a light piece!!
honestly the streaks in the light are gorgeous. they make it look like a super classy art piece and the orange glow matches your 70s vibes also YES on the rings. I'd try to do sort of a floating donut type thing with LED strips in it so that the ring(s) also light up
I’m LOVING this area of the house!! This might be a weird suggestion, but I think the couches should be closer together and centered with the shelf bay that’s one more to the left. This would make a more intimate hang out space and would separate it from the living room just a bit. This would also offset the focal point of the shelving unit which could be nice. I saw someone else’s suggestion to use a low hanging pendant lamp over the coffee table and I think that would definitely go with the cozy, conversation pit vibes! I am obsessed with the direction this space is going!!!
I made a faux milk glass lamp and it turned out great. I cleaned with alcohol and then I sprayed the inside of the globe with light layers of white spray paint until I got the opaqueness I wanted.
To test out different painting methods for lights for the future you could get clear Christmas glass globes, try a bunch of methods and see which ones work with a light shining through them. That could be a really cool video and then try one out large scale!
i *instantly* thought, "conversation pit" right before you said it--i love when that happens! becky, i love your style. i'm old enough to recall when all this stuff came around the first time ~
For future projects, instead of buying plugs, collect the saw dust from the cuts and drilling, mix it with wood glue to make a paste, and shove it in the hole. It's like a sandable/stainable wood filler that matches the color of your wood
I love your new area. The light is so cool the way it is. You turned me on to Theard Up. I buy most of my clothes there now. I'm 66 years young, your house reminds me of my 1st house so much. Being someone who lived in the 70's, I'd say your doing a great job decorating. Keep up the good work.
Omg I LOVE how this space turned out! The light, the shelves, the art piece are all spot on! I wouldn't add anything to the light I love how it's a one of a kind piece but doesn't draw attention away from the rest of the space. Perfectly balanced!
This looks beautiful! And no, the rings would just make this a bit of a childish thing. It’s a really relaxing piece of light, and I think we all love it😍 And the table! My lord👌🏻
No to the rings, Becky. I think let it do it's own unique thing. I actually have an original light shade the same size that my husbands work was getting rid of about 15 years ago. He flipped it the other way, and made a base for it. It makes the most delightful glowy orb in our bedroom at night (it sits on the top of a tall boy), and we use it every evening. Love what you did with the couch. ☺
Maybe your best work yet- but I say that every time! I love that you walk your viewers through your whole thought process ending in many victories & the occasional need to pivot. Love your work! Love your channel!
Becky, you are so incredibly talented! This space turned out amazing. I love every detail! That coffee table is perfect! That light! I love how it turned out. It’s art! It’s perfect. You could lean into the planet aspect, space was a huge influence in design in mcm. I showed my daughter this video because I’m so impressed with your design skills. Great job!
i think this space looks so beautiful! i personally wouldn’t do the hoops around the pendant. without the light on, it won’t have the same look. love you becky, austin, and danny!!!
Loving the planet light! I’m actually from that era… It also has marble vibes. Marbles are all different colors, yet are cool. Nailed the aesthetic’s perfectly. A warm cozy vibe!❤❤
The light is absolutely stunning! Excellent work Becky, definitely leave it as it is. It's perfection, I would pay good money for that shade over milk glass any day.
When I was a teen in the 70s I got a sectional sofa for my room with a moss green velvet cover fabric. 👌🥰 This piece is still living in my parent's house and looking like new allthough it's beeing used every day. The quality of furniture in those days was absolutely amazing, not comparable to today's trash.
Pity that the fabric on the sofa looks so stained and beat up, cause everything else looks on point. Would be cool to see you figure out a way to either restore it or reupholster it in a similar fabric
yeah because the fabric is already so busy I dont think you would get away with mending it or patches sometimes that can look rather nice but highly dependant on the style and fabric of the sofa. you didnt see how used the sofa was when it was in the breakfast nook now it reminds me of the couches friends had in their basements, garages or garden sheds. good enough to still sit on for a party and not problematic if you spill on it haha
That sofa looks like the kind of object that people say it looks trashy in a poor person's house (it still looks like someone died on it), but fancy in a rich person's house. I couldn't sit on it, with all those stains.
I did the same process with a lamp and also was unsure about the drips at first... Now I love them! My lamp also has an iridescent coating on the outside, which i think really accents the funky drips.
oh my gosh I LOVE THE PLANET LIGHT! it looks expensive and just so freaking cool! I think it's perfect without the rings since those might make it look a bit cheaper. I just feel like the vibe is perfect now. also, love the art piece you thrifted - warm yellow and orange are some of my absolute favorite colors so I'm definitely enjoying that (and all the other orange stuff in your house too)
uuumm just watching this and thinking how I found you channel years ago when you guys were moving to the loft and how freaking far you've come and how much all of us have grown. just wow.
25:50 I love the lamp! You could even add a bit of red to the faded area and really get the jupiter eye! It should still be white on the outside, since that is the original colour... but honestly, it is perfect with the painting and the couch! You don't need to do a thing!
Just add velcro to the underside of the cushion then you're not screwing through any of that precious fabric and please get it professionally cleaned those stains are just to obvious
27:11 I've been present to almost every house tours you do Becky, and I love that at every one of them, your harry potter books are always displayed in your shelves ❤
The light pulls the oranges and yellows from the painting - if there’s anything I learned from art school (besides I don’t want a career as an artist lol) is that when you make mistakes or things don’t go according to an, own it, make it work, and convince everyone it is was a deliberate design/artist choice 😁😆
Absolutely love the planet light! Keep it! My only suggestion is that you need a much larger rug. If you can get one where all of the living room furniture comfortably sit on with a little bit of space to spare, I think that would look better. It will actually look at the living room look bigger.
Pendant light looks awesome. You can do some internal rings that are hidden when off but visible when on. Pick a paint and use a milk frother and stick inside the bulb and turn on. It will make rings.
potentiallty for the light fixture you might have been able to use an airbrush to get a more even interior coating. Anytime I have tried the thin and swirl method it never quite works like I intend it too. An airbrush with really thinned white/cream colored paint and a lot of very thin layers might have created a more even texture. I actually like the planet vibes of the light personally though :)
The light gives retro vibes, on and off. Leave as is 😊 crazy that you got that coffee table. It literally was my thought as the ultimate fit. The space is A-MAZING!!
For the sofa arm you can do an arm that turns into a side table and add a small bench with red or orange fabric cushions on it to complete the C shape conversation pit!
I agree with everyone else, no rings it’s looks great as is! Is it perfect? No but its unique and I love the vibe and the amber color it gives off and I do like the streaks going through it, it feels intentional and fits the aesthetic. Keep it as is!
‘Broken Silence’ is the perfect name for a piece of art that’s overlooking a conversation area.
Love that ❤❤
Omg i didn't think of this but you're so right !!
That's so clever 😁
That's a great observation, love it.
Exactly, what i was thinking!
Everyone: Becky should Velcro the cushions!
Becky: I need to take the entire day to build an arm out of wood!
Love the creativity and dedication lol
That’s the first thought I had too! But what Becky designed turned out really well.
My first thought was wood too
I was actually thinking attached little side table kind of thing~ pretty similar
the back cushions still need velcroing i would say. the wood is a good finish and I like it!
It still benefitted from the wooden end pieces, aesthetically. It looks finished.
the light looks fantastic. Looks like you did the drips on purpose. Wonderful surprise when the light is on. No rings. Right now it's classy. rings will make it look cheap IMHO. Great work!
exactly my thought. Leave it as it is now. The planet lighting without right is iconic.
💯
Agreed I normally and not into this but I kind of love the way it looks now. Rings would make it look cheap
Ya, love the light just the way it is. Sorry the faux milk glass didn't work out, I wonder if you tried another bulb...
It's a work of art! Light loooooks greaaaat! Very unique
The light actually turned out better than what I was expecting
I don't even get planet vibes from it. I get trippy 70s glass vibes.
i love that the drips look more like color streaks on a blown glass bulb rather than paint drips. it looks intentional and organic and great as it is without rings :)
Yes, my thoughts exactly. It looks so purposeful, such a happy accident. I Love it!
Don't you dare take that light down it is amazing. It goes with the gradient art and the sofas, I mean, it could not be more perfect. It is amazing!!
For anyone with a similar issue of couch cushions not staying put- if you don’t want to/can’t make a whole new armrest, you can use heavy duty Velcro strips to attach and secure the bottom or back of the cushions to the base of the couch or chair. I was thinking this the whole time. LOL
I also thought about this! But the wood does add a nice visual factor
I tried that for my couch and it didn’t hold very well 😕
@@chalybion I agree! Love that she kept it simple and didn’t really add a rest, just kept it all in place and it looks like it was originally there anyways

I vote for leaving the light as is. Lovethat it’s a one-of-a-kind piece!
Yeah I lowkey love it, it looks like a blown glass piece

I agree with you !! She’s truly great
She’s been my fave since forever!
When Austin said “we should put a ring around it”, I literally said, they’re made for each other 😂 🫶🏼
SAME!❤
Absolute soul mates 🧡
"If you like it then you should've put a ring on it" 😂❤
That art piece you found is SO perfect for the space, i can’t think of a more complementary decor item.
Yes! The title, "Broken Silence" for a conversation pit-esque seating area is so perfect!

This is what I thought was coming before she introduced the light upcycle lol
Omg yes
Yes!
I agree. I think some sort of vintage fabric light/lantern would look good and add a bit more texture.

Becky should totally start her own line of furniture
One, I’m so happy you re-purposed the sofa! Two, that light turned out EPIC!!!
I would definitely give the sofa a deep cleaning or recover it with a similar fabric. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, it’s a cool pattern but looks worn and not so fresh
honestly the streaks in the light are gorgeous. they make it look like a super classy art piece and the orange glow matches your 70s vibes
also YES on the rings. I'd try to do sort of a floating donut type thing with LED strips in it so that the ring(s) also light up

I was thinking light layers of spray paint would have minimized the blotches.
That third outfit was so energetically fresh and I loved it. Gentle Herd looks cool on their website.

It was already retro but then the little wood caps brought me right back to my grandparents couch! So perfect
Sometimes a DIY not working out actually works out better… This light is an example! ❤
I dig the light. It gives high end hand blown vibes.
I think you could have gotten the Milky look by sanding the outside with an orbital sander
The light makes the room go from great to groovy! Keep it as is. Loved this ep.

she suggested this in a past video but I don't remember which one
I was a teenager in the 1960s and a married lady in the 70s. I have lived the era in which you love and You have nailed it!!!

Dreamy!! From the unexpected beautiful diy art light to the thrifted treasures, you've created such a charming conversation pit! Love this series ✨️
The 70s House is looking so good, and it is getting better and better.
The light works so well with the art work I would say complete. Messing with it could end up child like.

The surprise orange light is so complementary to everything. Looks so intentional! Keep it without a ring. It'll also be a conversation starter.
I absolutely love the light like it is! It looks so retro like it is! It's perfect! I love everything that you have done! 70's vibes rock!

Option 1.5. I'm a blue girl! The finished space looks AWESOME! I love the planet light.
The art piece is perfect. Light is wonderful, it was a happy surprise. A ring cut out of poster board might work for a planet ring.
