SEGA needed this. Had Mania not landed so dang well, SEGA would have had a hard time selling Forces.

So this is what a Sega Neptune game would've looked like?
Basically Sega CD with the exception of the 3D bonus stage. While that had the look of Sonic CD's bonus stage, the frame rate was far better. With the rest of the game, the music sounded like a Sega CD Sonic game and the remixed classic levels look like what an enhanced Sega CD port of old Sonic games would have looked like.
I would say the graphics are about Saturn level though. Lots of good looking 2d games on that. Definitely more advanced than PSX.
32x could handle the colorful graphics of Mania, Knuckles' Chaotix is a good example.
Weren't there a few games that used both the 32x and the mega CD? Maybe it'd be similar to that.

The jumping sprite is different in the final release and the E3 version. In the E3 version you can see better the spikes.

Why does it feel like your getting your choices chosing your crew for a GTA heist
Some things you missed in this video:
-studiopolis act 2's layout changed I believe because I can't find that part with the loop in the final version.
-flying battery's reveal trailer had a remixed flying battery theme, but it sounds pretty different in the final game.
-mirage saloon originally had a bar like place with spinning stools, but was changed in the final game to ice cream probably due to the age rating.
-studiopolis act 1's music sorta has some changes in the final version, but there pretty tiny.
-green hill zone act 1 had a special stage ring hidden if you push a rock, but in the final version, it was replaced with rings and a 1up.
-the fire effect in green hill zone act 2 changed to be more fire like.
-the blue ring box would change the rings to a blue color on your ring count, but it originally stayed yellow.
Nemopolymer the loop in the reveal trailer was from act 2, but the boss loop is sorta different.
The loop is in the game, I believe

Prismatic Maniac the spinning stools stayed, but in alpha the background of that bar had alcohol like drinks, but was changed to ice cream in the final build

There is an unused snowboarding sprite for sonic in mania at the hedgehog party video

Look at the Hedgehog Party video again. The unused sprite is completely different from the one used in Mania's intro. The unused sprite has Sonic with his arms out, moving around and trying to balance himself, whereas the one in Mania is not animated and just has Sonic leaning forward with one of his arms sticking out behind him.
Now that plus is out, it would be awesome for this to get a revisit specially since we know everything about this game now, and there's a lot of people who can help you out with the specifics getting everything correct.

So how do Sonic Saturn and the Special Stages of Mania correlate? Is it just the general idea? Or did they somehow salvage the Sonic Pool engine?
From the footage he showed, it looked like Mania's 3D sonic model is heavily based on Sonic Saturn's 3D Sonic

I love all of your videos, even the ones to games I’ve never even heard of or seen. I just wish your voice sounded like it did in your early videos, like the Majora’s Mask video. That’s my only personal flaw. Otherwise fabulous work with all these videos. :)
9:01 - Actually, that running animation is just for when sonic is going really fast, like when he gets the speed shoe power ups for example. That animation was used in sonic 1 for the same purpose.
I personally think you should've waited at least a few months, or maybe even a year+ on this one. I think in the future, if there is a lot more stuff found, changes, unused content, old footage, info on the development, etc. you'll regret making this one so early. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Surprised you didn't talk about the Sonic 3 Remastered Prototype. Stuff from that, like the green and pink spheres from some of the bonus blue sphere levels shown off in the pitch, seem to have made their way into Mania. I'd also posit the scripting for blue sphere, the angel island intro and the Sonic & Knuckles bonus stage props in Titanic Monarch ended up being reused in Mania.

Hey guys! Did you know that mirage salon was inspired by 2 unused levels, dust hill, and dessert dazzle? Mirage salon looks more dessert dazzle more than dust hill.
I really love Sonic Mania. I was def one of those people who only loved the classic 2D Sonic games (Aside from one or two 3D games) and I felt like a child again the whole time!
The only thing I wish was in it was Hidden Palace Zone. I know SEGA kind of 're-created' it in Sonic 3/S&K, but the Sonic 2 version was so mystifying and one of my favorite things about Sonic 2. I'm kind of surprised there wasn't really anything in there (Or least that I've seen so far) referencing that. Considering it's one of the most infamous Sonic unused levels.

I'm serious early game play footage, there was a spot in Green Hill Act 1 where you could push a rock and under it would be a special ring. But in the final release, it's just a bunch of rings with an extra life (it's on the high path).

I love all the episodes up to this point, but I think you should've waited awhile for beta elements, unused stuff, more developmental info etc. to appear. This episode feels, weak. I defended your last episode, because I thought it was very good, but I can't find a way to defend this one. Sorry.

Match Machine:If you enter as Sonic/Tails/Knuckles,you will begin the machine.If you land on Amy,a heart will be shown...but if you land on Robotnik,a broken heart is shown.
Unused slope:Was going to be used in the final True Ending boss
An unused room:In Lava Reef 2 act there is a room similar to where you fight Knuckles in Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Unused Chemical Plant enemy:Slides on chemicals and shoots his spikey nose
Green Hill Splats The Bunny:The original Splats The Bunny from Sonic 1,which were unused
Unused Green Hill Zone ball:Unused in Sonic 1 aswell,can be rolled around
Unused printer:In Marbel Garden,there was planned to be a printer.You had to fill it with blue,yellow or pink ink
Unused newspapers:A decoration or a type of spring was going to be used in Marbel Garden
Lefovers:They are MANY graphics and sprites ported from Sonic 1,Sonic 2 and Sonic 3
All were from the iOS (or Android) version,even the not realesed Sonic 3 port
Unused music:A not so changed boss theme for Egg Revine
A blueprint zone:Not really a unused zone,it was just use as a test zone by the developers

Mirage Saloon based on SONIC CD unused zone - Desert Dazzle (+ Sand Shower and Dust Hill from Sonic 2).
Background picture is from Desert Dazzle (but in good quality), sand slopes from Dust Hill (they added wavy sand stripes that look nice), walls and stone parts (with patterns) from Desert Dazzle (again), cactuses from all three zones (Sand Shower, Desert Dazzle and Dust Hill).
