In this video, Did You Know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets, Easter eggs and history of Sonic Mania. Sonic Mania was developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games, and was published by Sega for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, and Steam's PC gaming platform. Through our analysis of Sonic Mania, its gameplay and beta builds, we hope to show some of the more interesting facts from the making of the game and have its history explained.

Well Sega is in a desperate time right now to save their Mascot (dont mean financially or "business wise") and even apologized for almost ruining the Sonic series. Desperate times call for desperate measures aka getting anybody who is good at making games and is a Sonic fan.
Still luv Mania though but I cant deny how sad this is to get fans to help save Sonic to b around for a lil longer.
I mean look at the sales number of all the Sonic Games after Sonic Adventure 1. (excluding tht one 2006 mobile port and the Mario & Sonic Olympics spinoff series)
Do not know why people keep saying crap like Sega is desperate, Sega is fine business wise, they are still making money hand over fist in many other projects besides Sonic, Sega merely was out of touch with what its fans want so what do they do? They go and find/hire actual longtime fans who knows what the fans want and just so happen know how to make Sonic games themselves, its not desperate its actually a pretty darn smart move.

Little depressing fact for y'all
The Heavy Rider, one of the Hard Boiled Heavies, rides atop a Motobug named Jimmy. This is a reference to Polygon Jim, a Sonic Rom Hack creator. One of his most well known rom hacks was simply called Motobug the Badnik in Sonic the Hedgehog, where instead of Sonic, you played as a Motobug. Sadly in 2013, he died in a horrid car accident. Since then, his name's been honoured via easter eggs in other pieces of Sega/Sonic Media

Okay I should clear things up!
First off Sammy no longer wants to be call by his older name its just Sammy that's all. He kinda regrets what he did in the past and the only reasons he got famous was because of that, if none of this happen he would just had a normal life like anyone else!
Secondly while it would be nice to see him on here, he can't be because he is now at university and if I remember doing animation or computer science!
He is also 18 now no longer a small child but going on to being adult and he's a much different person from before! Heck he looks a lot more different as well if you want to his kinda recent stuff look up his Instagram you will hopefully find it! Hope this clears things up right now! :D
To think this is the most successful & highly praised Sonic game in 15 years, & it wasn't even made by Sonic Team. Seriously not even Colors & Generations has gotten this amount of praise like Mania has gotten. It's Kind of sad actually...

Instead of a full game it was episodic with the third being cancelled and instead of having new stages and boss fights it was just rehashed ones from the classics (fixed in ep 2) and to top it all off the music was generic and forgettable
I'm gonna be completely honest and say the reason i like mania is cause of the nostalgia but playing it you could tell how much passion and hard work was put into it unlike sonic 4

Trimint Pikachu SEGA is hiring fans because they can’t make good games themselves anymore. They’ve been running into so many issues and they’ve been losing so much money, so they’re going to the last resort of hiring fans (which turned out to work wonders for them).
Nintendo’s games are still going strong, thus eliminating the need to hire fans for development. If Nintendo ever loses their magic and they start losing as much money as SEGA, I’m sure Nintendo will hire fans for development on new titles too.

Sega is doing fine financially, its CREATIVITY they lack and yes asking fans for help is the best way to go about it since people who are actually longtime fans of the series obviously are in touch with what the fans/consumers want, Sega isn't exactly desperate but are instead playing it smart unlike other big name companies who either ignores the fans completely or have them take down fan projects.

The opening cinematic was worked on extensively by Studio Yotta. That guy gets the singular credit for some reason and the Studio never gets mentioned.
Just like how Miyamoto and Stan Lee get so much credit when they worked alongside others.

@@yourunclejohn984 More than likely not. Like Lemon said, a lot of things Miyamoto works on gets accredited to him instead of his teams. Hell, he doesn't even work on new Mario games like he used to. But he gets all the praises. Also, like Stan Lee who just screwed people over with contracts and took their ideas. Many of the comic character creators all disagree with him "creating" so many of Marvel characters. Often times he would just take the credit. Which sucks because a lot of the creators of many Marvel classics were often fired and lived a life of poverty; since they couldn't get original prints back which are needed for portfolios. Also Marvel would ban them from drawing their creations too.

I love TeeLopes and Sonic Mania's soundtrack but I wish Falk had more of a role in making the soundtrack. Sonic Before and After the squeal have two of the most amazing soundtracks I've ever heard in my life.

It wasn't terrible. Certainly not as good as Mania, but it had some fun parts to it, like Death Egg Mark 2 act 1, as well as Sky Fortress all around. Heck, I was actually dreading Lost Labrynth, only to find it surprisingly good

One thing I will say, though I enjoyed Sonic 4 more I will admit Sonic Mania is the better made game. I agree that the first phase of the Lost Labyrinth boss was annoying, but personally I thought the second phase was pretty fun

The most valuable asset Sega has in their pocket isn't their IPs, it's their fans. Their fans just made a Sonic game for them and fully pulled the series out of the fire.

In Studiopolis Zone you could see a sign right under the Pink Bot sign that says "LOCK-ON TECHNOLOGY" being a reference to Sonic & Knuckles, a game you could lock on to Sonic 1 for the Complete Blue Sphere, Sonic 2 for Knuckles in Sonic 2, and if you locked it onto Sonic 3, the game would become Sonic 3 & Knuckles, adding Knuckles as a playable character and adding Sonic & Knuckles levels to Sonic 3.
the whole story behind basically the entire dev team being fans who sega hired makes me happy in a way nothing else has in a long time. i had a smile on my face the whole time i was watching this

Jimmy, the motobug that Heavy Rider rides on, is a reference to the late Polygon-Jim. He made the hack that lets you play as the motobug in Sonic 1.

Shulk fangirl I'll admit the nighttime segments of Unleashed were subpar, but the daytime segments were downright amazing. And while the Sonic Adventure series has it's flaws (namely camera and a few weird controls), it's praised for a reason and were overall well-made games.

Just discovered a Sonic fan who didn't know the relations between Mania and the fan community projects, and sent her this video.
5 years in and DYKG's work on it still kicks ass.

There was also a little Easter egg in the collectors edition. On the metal collectors card, there's text that reads "fun is infinite", which I'm pretty sure is a callback to that creepy hidden screen in Sonic cd
It's exciting to see people you knew for a long time from the Sonic Retro forums going this far to give sonic fans what they want. SEGA must better hire them for more stuff in the future. Glad I got the opportunity to beta-test it for a bit.

I remember hearing about this game before it came out. Played the first three or four Sonic games on Genesis back in the day and really enjoyed the games. Playing the classic Sonic games as an adult i have a greater appreciation for everything about the game soundtrack and game play are still top notch to this day. The PS3 port of Sonic CD is great and I'm playing through the game now.
Bought a physical copy of Sonic Mania Plus for the Play Station 4 and am going to open and play the came very very soon. The game looks like a blast especially for someone that has played the Sega Genesis Sonic games!

Its amazing how many people out there come up with, and build, versions or add ons to games that can make them way better, but are ignored for one reason or another or even threatened or taken to court. Wasting resources, but at least the people who helped bring sonic back into its beloved retro style were recognized for their efforts and hard work

I wasn't a SEGA kid, but loved the early sonic games. So glad that such a labor of love made this game. In fact, I was going to wait to buy it, but now I think I'll buy a copy sooner than later. Really want the devs to know how awesome their work is

- Boom was made by Big Red Button (SEGA's only responsibility was publishing)
- Generations and Colors were not failures which were made by them and not fans
- Sonic is NOT SEGA's only IP. (Total War: Warhammer sold 20+ million units)
Another Metroid 2 Remake being killed because of Samus Returns is irrelevant as according to wikipedia Samus returns began development 2 years ago whereas AM2R had a demo release in late 2011 meaning AM2R was made first and it wouldn't hurt their sales ether

Samet Hayranoglu It's not impossible. An iPod 3rd generation can run the game via an emulator. Adding HD visuals will be easily playable on the phone hardware we have now.
As much as I liked that game, it wouldn't work on mobile. I'd say just make an HD remake on consoles with some additional content and fixes (like making the treasure levels non-linear again).
it is completely possible. An S7 edge can can handle psp emulation quite easily. I dont see why it wouldnt be able to handle it either being emulated or just outright ported aside from the controls being crappy without a bluetooth controller.
