i pulled my back boxing a few months ago. i have never had an injury put me in tears before. i was crawling around my apartment crying wondering what i did to deserve this
@@KISutona Tailbone injuries are no joke. But at least for me it wasn't long term and I just needed rest for a few days. In the moment however, I was in so much pain that I had to lay down on my belly on the spot.
@@KISutona And knowing Suggs he definitely would try to play through the injury instead of sitting out for a bit. Body is gonna let you know when it's at it's limit on you.
Dr. Brian is the best!!!! I'm currently studying to become a physical therapist, and his content on the mechanisms of injury is really helping me enhance my clinical skills, especially when working through case studies. Thanks for the valuable insights!!!
Not sure if it was mentioned.. but he aggravated his back in the previous game against the Pistons with a scary fall. He was actually taken off to get it treated, but then re-entered after a quarter or so. I wonder if that fall may have contributed to this injury. Especially considering that he was likely cleared to play this game because he was able to re-enter the previous one. (This fall could have been the initial excess pressure that you speak on during this video) I love your videos, keep it up!
When I saw it happened, I remembered suffering a lower back injury just by standing up... yeah that's right, I was sitting down, then I stood up (not quick motion, just a regular standing up motion). I heard a somewhat of a pop in my lower back. Physician ruled it as a herniated disc injury and I can still feel pangs of pain for months now. I hope he recovers.
Seems like he pulled it. I did the same thing a month ago at the gym. I thought I hurt my lower spine cause I couldn't bend without extreme pain. Went to the hospital, and they said I had a bad sprain, but my spine was perfect.
@itsjammbi I was fine in a few days. It was still sore as heck, though. I still get some soreness in that area. I'm guessing he'll sit for about a week. Then do light cardio for a week. Then, they'll test him with drills and see how he reacts. If he's sore and feels tense, they make him wait. If he feels good, they'll probably play him on a strict mins regulation. That's just how teams treat things now.
Came to watch this because something like this happened to me 2 times. First time took like 10 days for the pain to go away. The 2nd time it took like 20 days of therapy. Still have no idea what caused it. Both times I was reaching out like Suggs
Back spasms suck. Been dealing with ‘em for years. It’s usually erector spinae (which comprise all the smaller muscles Brian mentioned) which can press on the nerve roots when inflamed and over contracting. I also have trouble with the quadratus lumborum he mentioned. Basically -no stretching, do anti-inflammatories and heat, and after a few days direct pressure (massage).
As a person who has back spasms, I’m here to tell ya that they freaken hurt. Your back can spasm with a weird locked up feeling where the contraction is so bad you fear any movement. You are paralyzed by the pain. Of course you have to move with help if only to get to your bed. Ice, heat, massages, and muscle relaxers are a God send. Then later back exercises, starting with stretches, done cautiously in case you set off more spasms of pain. A trip to my orthopedic doctor if the spasm immediately returns with an easy stretch or if the pain runs down my leg. Thanks Dr Brian. Your body had some impressive gluteus maximus going on.
Same, mine completely crushed my sciatic nerve so I had to get a laminectomy at 23, surgeon said the herniated nucleus of the disc became fused to the nerve so I have sciatica 24/7
From my T-10 to my L-5 every disc is left right or forward. Degenerative disc disease and myelopathy to go along with it. Had to have a stimulator installed in my back. It's a game changer for sure when it comes to pain management but definitely don't fix it.
The worst pain I’ve ever experienced in order; 1. Sciatica Distant 2nd-6th; kidney stones, tooth abscess, perforated ulcer, migraine, ground ball to the nuts. It’s that bad when a disc is involved and you have spasms.
I had 3 slipped disks, and torn annular fibrosis’ at the L4/L5/S1 levels in my back and had nerve damage in my legs. My surgeon suggested that I either have a spine transfusion surgery or do intensive Physiotherapy and rehab. I did the Physiotherapy and rehab instead of surgery, but it was probably the worst pain I’ve ever experienced, took me 2.5 years to finally be able to live without constant pain. Hope it’s just a sprain for Suggs
Hi. I know you only upload videos when someone gets injured, but can you please do some educationals out of blue. I'm very interested in what's going on when people have either tennis or golfers elbow. I don't think you have covered that before. If you have, please reply with a link in the comment. Thanks
A couple months ago, something fell and when I went to grab it, I had the same reaction as Jalen. It turned out that I couldn't get out of bed on my own, after 3 days, I decided to go to the hospital and my back was inflammated. After some injections and a couple hours later, I was able to move freely again.
i had a szn of aau where i had serious lower back issues. one of the most frustrating injuries ive ever had. spent an hour every game stretching and getting my loosened up, just to pull it 2-3 min in and not being able to move the whole rest of the game.

It’s crazy because so many people deal with back problems and basically no one has any clue or idea of how to fix them. You got McGill big 3, PRI, other techniques and schools of thought. Unless you see specific fractures or herniations, isn’t it so hard to know how to treat a back problem? My back has been bothering me for multiple years and no one has answers. Hopefully Suggs gets answers faster
There was a play earlier where he dived on the floor to get a steal that what started the injury in the first place just to give you a heads up you should cover that too. Covering just this part of the injury doesn’t serve purpose
all injuries are painful for obvious reason but i heard rib fracture as thin as 1inch of hair is on another level of pain. i only had torn meniscus it was a lot of pain but i never felt like it was too much to handle. i’d assume something closer to the torso puts you in more agony
Super bad because you basically have the mass force of the legs and then the torso twisting in opposite direction and hyperextends (basically same as cracking your back by twisting except here with brute force
It looks like a possible pulled muscle or worse a disc that bulging or pressing on the nerve 😮😢..sooo painful if nerves are compressed oooww can’t imagine the pain
I was working on my car lying on the garage floor. I went to stand up and just twisted my back the wrong way I guess and it caused me to collapse to the ground and I couldn't stand back up. I was stuck on the ground for a good 15 minutes before it finally eased up enough where I could stand again but even then it was incredibly painful. I think I ended up finishing the car like 2 weeks later lol.

There must be something wrong with Magic's stuff that is responsible for players individual development. The chance that three players injury there core muscles is extremely low. Hence, there need to be something wrong with their training
