I've had similar trouble trying to navigate with a phone in the rain. Got lost, ran out of fuel and it was a bad time! That's the day I ordered a Garmin Montana. Thanks for the great videos! Really captures UK trail riding. Makes me want to visit Northumberland.
Thanks for your time. Great video once more. I like the way you make it. Now, about the tablet, you are right. I had some issues with it, but on the other hand. Not the rain, but the sun or high temperatures. When I parked the bike, the tablet was facing at the sun. So when I started, there was a message for hot temperature. Here in Cyprus, we have a lot of sunshine. So people in countries like this, should be cautious.
I used the Samsung Galaxy Active Tab 2 and Carpe controller on the Continental Divide (on my 690) and never had a problem. 3 weeks and never needed to charge the controller, temps from 104 to 27, heavy rain, snow, etc and not a single problem with any of it. I would strongly suggest to just upgrade the tablet, it was totally worth it!
20 years ago I trailed honda xl250s/r.'s...and mostly not places yu should be.... but a very big help is quiet exhaust...keep it quiet👍👍👍cheers from dave..
Great video Greg! The only suggestion i would like to do is that you and the bags you were unpacking for us were quite away from our pov, maybe a different setup or angle the next time? I believe you should keep a more rugged tablet on the bike as you will have a larger screen and is more versatile than a dedicated gps. Plus you get to use the Thork switch. I guess you should try the ktm690/huskyhusky701, however, the price of those with a similar tower/fairing/equipment as the one on the pr7 will go up hugely. Keep up the good work! Cheers from Portugal
Hi Greg - I know you (sadly) sold your PR7, but i'm ordering a 2023 and would like to, as you did, customize the graphics. I contacted a specialty house and they want a Vector format file of all plastics. Did you have that done by chance? Has to be in .Ai or .Eps format. Thanks and do love the 450 (I was considering a 500 EXC-F to "adventure-ize"), but I needed something more road-capable. Thank you for any help!
Update on my comment below... apparently the NEW galaxy tab active 3 can be used in the rain with the stylus pen. So I think this is worth some investigating. The Samsung galaxy tab active (original model) is good on my 690, but I don't know how you can stop the rain from touching the screen...
Great update, much appreciated. I keep thinking the crf450l with the lovely adventure Spec additions (Inc bigger tank; or even the new 20l tank that's now available) and power up kit would be perfect? No reliability worries with that..?
@@GregVillalobos they are coming down in price as not overly popular. Full power version, larger tank and better seat sounds like a winner to me. Cheers
Hi Gregg. May I offer to help with waterproofing the tablet case? I do all sorts of prototypes for my job and I work with supliers that can do short runs of injection moulding.
Hi Greg, great video as usual. Would love to know if you have lowered the bike to suite your height and how are the vibrations on the bike? Being a thumper, I can imagine the PR7 should have some bit of buzz on the handle bars and the pegs? Thanks!
Thanks! The PR7 is fairly stock performance wise. Not lowered at all. I'm used to riding tall bikes so no drama, just shift your bum when you put your foot down. Def some thumper buzz, but again I'm used to the 450EXC so it's actually a lot smoother than that. Feel it more through the bars than the pegs.
Parts are fairly easy to get hold of via local dealer or factory in Portugal. But def not as easy as KTM EXCs etc. You need to make a phone call to get them really, not as easy as punching in a part number to a website.
Not a PR7 question.........but........whats the size of your Baltic Hybrid jacket? I ask as my size/shape fits a 'small' but I'm a bit reluctant as I have never bought a small jacket before. I do wear a 'medium' Linesman. THANKS again Greg. All the best from Canada!
Greg Villalobos hay. Thanks 🙏🏻 for the info. I think I’m going to order one!! Thanks also for all your video productions/movies/, I love your style, they are great fun to watch.
For the PR7- How much extra electric capacity does it have? Can you run heated grips, phone/tablet charger, other electronics? I have a heated jacket too... plus will charge my drone/cameras while on the road. I don’t do all of them at the same time, just curious about your experience with electric capacity. Thank you for the great videos Greg!
I don't know the tech answer to this, but the bike comes with a Galaxy Tablet installed and additional USB socket on the dash, so it's a fair assumption to say that charging your devices on the go will be fine.
It's fine, but it can't do everything brilliantly. It will sit at 80mph all day long. If you want something that will hit 100mph it's not the bike for you. It's a single cylinder on dirt tyres so it's never going to be a powerful or as smooth as say the T700.
@@GregVillalobos im used to 70mph trials from the 80s interested in something modern but with that old school toughness that most of the modern stuff has lost
Sure. It's the CI Command Controller by Carpe. I bought it through @ThorkRacing. It controls the Samsung Tablet. You can find out more here - carpe-iter.com/carpe-iter-control/

The Montana is not as intuitive or versatile as the tablet but it is super robust and reliable for sure.
Nice Greg, As for that Exhaust......I'd keep it stealthy
That's the plan!

Quite common for phones/tablets to overheat in the sunshine. Wish I got that error in the UK!

I've heard good things about the Active Tab 2
I have the active tab it’s great in the rain the screen is designed to operate in wet conditions.
That's good to hear.
Useful information Greg. Look forward to further content.

Wonder if the shift to digital rallye raid roll maps will see the emergence of more properly rugged tablets for bikes?
The Drive Mode Dashboard has a great Roadbook feature built in.
Their use in racing will surely see an improvement in water resistance, protection from glare, dust ingress etc
Hi Gregg. May I offer to help with waterproofing the tablet case? I do all sorts of prototypes for my job and I work with supliers that can do short runs of injection moulding.
Ah thanks Rodrigo. I ended up ditching the tablet and now use a Garmin Montana 700i. Really appreciate the offer of help though :-)
Useful info as always. Pity about the tablet. I wonder...will a Trailtech Voyager Pro pair with the Bluetooth.
If it is running Android it might. If it's not then unlikely.
@@GregVillalobos okay. Understand better now. Not only Bluetooth that plays a role. Requires to be a Android device as well with Drivemode app.
