You started this video with the best advice and comment and that is the "perfect bike" is different for everybody. The key is to not let the internet tell you that you on the wrong bike. Make up your own mind based on the riding you WANT and ACTUALLY do.

I have for 3 Months the T7 and i do a lot of off-road in our Country and i find the T7 very maneuverable in rough terrain.I had before the BMW R1200GSA and very hard to do off-road with it. Yes the T7 is a fantastic bike! Congrats. Awesome that you got the Amok hammock. Amazing to sleep (and wake up) in. Just make sure to take a piss before you go to bed :D It's not easy to get up in the middle of the night :)

Here's my 2 cents on the PR7 after 4 months of ownership...and these are the same things most PR7 owners discuss: The PR7 is well equipped for a range of riding styles, good torquey engine, easy maintenance, good handling, good suspension, decent range, low CG, very narrow compared to other ADV bikes, no ABS or Riding modes to deal with. What could be improved: Even in Europe dealers are scarce (depends where you live), but it’s not been an issue so far, no ABS so you need to get used to that and be careful if you have never been on a non-ABS bike, the foot pegs are a bit high, but it does have great ground clearance, skid plate looks good but weak mounting points (just a 10mm bolt in front and a tab in rear-several aftermarket models coming soon), cold start issues sometimes even in mild weather (but it will eventually start), the “Rally computer” looks cool but its just a semi weatherized Samsung pad, and not a good one at that (but it comes with DMD2 loaded and you can watch movies on Wi-Fi, send email etc.) and I will remove it and replace with a Garmin and later a real computer. Some fittings are good quality and others are not…it’s hit or miss. Fueling it sucks and you will soak your crotch and the seat in gas at least once till you find the right technique (There is an aftermarket filler cap available for it though). You will either wear out the original off-road tires in under 2K KM or immediately replace them with more ADV oriented tires. They are good off road, but they will not last, and you will replace them anyway…just put a good 75/25 (offroad/road) tire from the factory AJP!! I know this seems more oriented to complaints then what’s good about bike but it’s not…I just want folks to understand what most of us PR7 owners discuss about the bike. I have NO REGRETS buying this bike vs the very limited competition (I don’t like oranges anyway).
Thanks for the useful information! None of it seems like a deal breaker to me. Different bikes, different small things to consider. I just hope it's reliable enough for a long trip.
The fueling is just about adapting your technique I feel. Angle the stream down the towards the tank and sing a song and you will be finished! Extra plus is filling the tube up to the cap gives you extra liters of range if need to.
I just bought one, 700km so far and it was a risk as I had no test ride before buying.So far its a great light adv bike and good on the road too. Your review is the only one ive seen loaded with camping gear. So grateful you had english subtitles.
Have it, Love it! I have the GRP exhaust and mapping for 48 Hp and feel that it is prefect power. This is, as you say not at high rpm weapon, but a chugger. so the extra hp feel unnecessary. Selling my adv tourer and honda rally so this wil be my only bike. It is happy to sit on highways at 110 kph and on gravel trails at 30.
Coming from a T7 and a long time fan of your videos, I considered the AJP and the 701 HVA when I wanted to go lighter. I was on a 10000€ budget, but no used ones popped at that time. I considered the KOVE 450, and I realized that all the fancy kits I wanted to put on The AJP or 701 came standard on the Kove and more. I bought the KOVE and loved it ever since. The engine is not "only power in the high revs", it's chugging power on the low revs, until it just explodes on the high revs. It delivers power only if you want to. You get a gentle purring and easy engine when you want to go slow and just ride the trails, and you get a rally machine at high revs if you want. You could test ride one and make up your mind. But the AJP is really more comfortable. If you kept the T7, you could go Kove, but if it is a replacement, the AJP is a better choice.
@johannescarlsson4559 5000,which is more than double the amount. This is what turned me down on the Kove since I wanted a motorbike that as as fun/capable offroad as travel oriented. But I had no idea if that 2000km mark had evolved. Thanks for giving me some light on the subject :)
@@guillaume05ch 2000km on the Kove seems to be race/rally speced. Those extending it to be like an RX4 i have seen no issues. Looks solid. But i don't like the oil cooler position. Belly tanks and rear "remove luggage to fuel" cap. Still tempting as many parts of the design is better than PR7, none perfect. 800x Rally also interesting as it's a twin

Great video ! I rode a lot of bikes before and decided to switch to the AJP this year , I don’t regret it ! Amazing bike for adv travel . FYI you can choose the full power setup with the GPR final exhaust : great power and much less noise than the Doma ;) Cheers from France ✌️
I think the seat worth a mention: quite comfortable kompared to a KTM one. Also the engine has nicer sound in first gear than 690/701. Oil change every 5000km, and you need to check the valves too. Air filter is up high, easily changeable. Mine came with Michelin Desert race tires with rimlocks. I really enjoy it!
Respect you for not talking about numbers much. We are way to obsessed with statistics and theory. It goes so far that sometimes, we dismiss a bike only because its worse on paper then something else. But if we wouldn't knew those numbers, we wouldn't have noticed in the first place.
So envious of your country when you can ride those trails without any trouble, no chance here in UK. Looks like the mosquitos missed you on this trip. BTW never heard of an AJP before but from how you described the power delivery low down grunt It would also be my choice
We do have fantastic opportunities for riding here. The trick is to not ride the same place too often. Trails like the TET get in trouble when locals get tired of all the bikes going the same route.

I enjoyed sharing your adventure, thank you Nomad. ADV riding always seems to be a compromise as the ‘perfect’ bike doesn’t exist. The PR7 solves many of the usual issues/complaints with its lightness and good suspension built-in from the start. The overall package is ready to ADV out of the box - no need to change the pegs, suspension, etc, etc. Of course, the answer to all of our ADV biking needs, is to have a few bikes, perhaps 3 (light, medium and big!). But if you had to limit yourself to one bike what would it be? I bought a used PR7 a few years ago and enjoy the simplicity and utility of the bike. It’s quite a rare bike here in Australia but ready for Simpson Desert, Cape York, local weekend rides and anything in between. My advice, for what it’s worth, if to get a PR7 but keep the T7 as it doesn’t owe you anything. See which you ride the most over the next 12 months. What a wonderful dilemma to have! Keep sharing (please).
Thanks mate. Indeed best would be to keep my trusty T7 and get a light bike extra. That's my preferred option. Let's see what the financial gods have in plan for me.
@NomadSweden End of the day, you remember the fun and the ease, every bike will have a good point that you can do long asphalt with and as long as you an sit straight up it won't be a problem. But the handling, like tou said, tension on your shoulders arms and the dissapointment when you drop plus the hassle of picking it up and simply balancing it while standing next to it, that strain is demotivational and tiring, ir makes it more survival then adventure, haha.
Haha, first two and the three happy campers lost on the woods. Well captured an alot more interesting to compare feelings of different bikes to each other than numbers. We did not really covered the feeling of engine power compared to your T7. We touched the well combined gearbox ratio and spread to power, but not in comparison. Have this bike for close to a year now. I am truly enjoying it, much more fun to ride offroad than the "middleweights" like T7, Tuareg etc. Very confidence inspiring. Not bad onroad either. It keeps a pretty solid line onroad when doing around 110-120kph, no wobbles. I put the Mitas Trail XT+ tires on after wearing out the stock Michelin Trackers, almost as good offroad, much better for the onroad sections. It does carry luggage including full camping gear well. A preload adjuster on the back would be nice, there is a guy on the AJP forum who has worked something out, will try that. Other than that, I think the ZF Sachs suspension is really good. Oil changes are relatively simple, same goes for the valve check. Niggles: for me (1.90m) still a little bit cramped seating position, footpegs can't be lowered easily because of the strange exhaust routing. Also bashplate this close to the pipes seems like trouble ahead on a big hit offroad. Fueling is always interesting, takes effort and time, and don't fill it up too far, it will spill out the fuel from the bottom. If you go for the stock exhaust system, immediately place an extra spacer on the exhaust hanger, the muffler will move in and damage your swingarm. I alerted the AJP importer in my country about this, they deny all responsibility and blamed it on me, claiming I had fallen with it on the exhaust (which isn't true). So be aware of difficulty with warranty claims, AJP can be hard to deal with. I know this from the AJP dealer who is close by. But this may be dependend on which country you are in. Tablet is pretty much worthless, no storage space, and offline maps can't be stored easily on added sd-cards, because Google has made this mostly impossible for most apps. Better to get something from Thork, for storage and visibility. Love the DMD2 software on it though. Headlights I replaced with an LED unit, the stock headlights are useless in for example dark tunnels or even generally for being visible. Fuel gauge is working intermittently, and when it does, it doesn't move for the first 190km, then goes down really fast. I always make sure I put the trip counter on. Offroad fill up around 290km, onroad a little more. Lastly, the turning radius is crap, small turns will cause some surprises in the beginning. Overall, I like the bike because I think it is pretty much incomparable for what it offers as stock (Husqvarna 701 has to specced up a lot to get close to compare to this), and the ride offroad is just excellent. But it does have it niggles.
@@NomadSweden And it shouldn't scare you away. You live with the niggles, work around them (how to fuel up, you change tablets, add a bar riser for ergonomics etc.) and then enjoy how it rides. Because that part is just really well sorted. It makes you feel so confident that you can really make big steps skill-wise
If you fill the fuel funnel going into the tank until you see fuel. the fuel meter will read full for the first 100+ km before you start burning fuel in the tank. Its a feature! extra fuel capacity!

I've had mine since April - no issues and it's my unicorn.. to put that in context, ive had a V85TT (I have 2 other Guzzis..), then a Tuareg; now the PR7. Each bike was fine, yet for the harder off-road the AJP is so much easier and confidence inspiring 😂 And, with its balance shaft, is surprisingly smooth on the tar, so don't miss the bigger twins..
Nice video! I might get on top of a PR7 this weekend. Very time restricted test ride but I might post my thoughts too if I have the time to make something. Definitely fun to see some of these bikes appear that are specifically made towards us 'adventureriders'.
Hey Robert, don't get fooled by the AJP !!! I was away when you came to England for your recent tour, the Kove 450 was waiting for you. Its time to do a Kove / AJP test me thinks. Another cracking video.
Really enjoyed watching that guys...what a fab mini adventure!. The AJP is a really capable bike..but for big trips with big mileage the reliability of the T7 is hard to beat. But on tricky terrain it's a heavy bike and a big weight saving is really tempting! By the way, i tried the T7 Extreme but it's SO tall...I'm 6ft but was on my tiptoes. That translates into stress doing U turns, manoeuvring on decks of ferries etc. So my head rules my heart on that one. Some money spent on the suspension of my T7 will be the way for me...and i will resurrect my beloved XR650R for the odd occasion i ride tricky terrain. If only Honda would make a new XR650R with electric start it would be THE unicorn bike!! Ps..the hammocks look so glorious to sleep in...Cheers, Steve 💚
Happy to see you liking it. I made the T7 to PR7 swap this spring and not looking. So far only ridden it home here in Sweden, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia. It's been perfect, my luggage (Rogal XL) sits perfect, no thing on the tail needed, i have small brackets near the footpegs for the straps. Kriega base sits poorly so ditching that. Main annoyance is wind noise, and maybe 130km/h highway vibrations. But isn't great speed for TKC80 anyway. I would love if they could have used the 5th and 6th from the TE630 Enduro instead of SM ratios. Also considering T865X swap for the tablet, liking the DMD2 dashboard. And they have a bracket for the PR7. Kove 450 Rally is still an option, even lighter and less vibrations I'm told. Could not get one in time, no test ride available and PR7 has 50% more torque 40Nm -> 60Nm. But i don't really need that. I'll look in to making an "aero shield" with less wind noise for the PR7.

Hello! First of all thank you very much. As someone thinking to start adventouring, i found this review very useful! I am very torned on which bike I should purchase. Lets start with the facts: I am 1,81m tall, pretty well trained overall and skilled on asphalt (i own a RSV4 for street and trackday use). The problem: i never did off-road. I was initially leaning toward the reliable tenere. My dream is to make those big adventures offroad in remote places (Mongolia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, etc), so apparently T7 was perfect choice, but I have been highly discouraged because of my inexperience combined with a very tall seat and very high center of gravity with high weight for the T7. I am scared from the reliability of the KTM and Aprilia as well and so I started to search for something smaller, mainly focusing to the Kove 450 rally (vey good fuel capacity adn reviews but question mark over reliability and 2000km oil change) and this AJP PR7. To me, on paper, it looks like this ADV bike is the definitive choice for my needs, but would you reccommend it from your overall experience? To be honest, I would hate to start purchasing a smaller enduro to improve my skills because owning three motorbikes would definetely be too much.
Hi. Valid concerns for sure. I have only had tall bikes but learned alot on moutainbiking downhill etc. I do think the AJP is a great starting bike. It has 5000km maintenance intervals so its a bit more than the usual adv bikes. I have yet to experience how reliable it is but reading owner reviews etc it seems ok. But nothing can beat the japs 😊Keep an eye out for the new bikes 2025. There are a lot of new smaller bikes coming as it seems to be the next trend. You can learn offroad on a T7 but a lighter bike is much less frustrating. Good luck!
Honest and interesting review of a less known bike. Has always been on my radar, despite the 701 I chose in 2021. If I had known I'd get a second, more street-oriented bike in 2024, I would have had a look at the new Beta Alp 4.0 for pure offroad travelling instead of the more powerful 701. A similar review of the Alp from your side would be really interesting!
Well done , Scandi adv always quality videos. Yamaha should make a lightweight 450 for off road adventure riding. Lifting the front wheel easily really helps skipping obstacles. I like the AJP low fuel tank 👍
I had one briefly. It was my unicorn bike. Discovered i don't have any unicorn trails near me, and i'm not a unicorn rider. Had trouble getting used to the snappy throttle. I still think it's a great bike, just not in my hands, or where I live. Nearest dealer was about 1000 miles away too, which wasn't very helpful when i had a problem and had to ship it round-trip. it's cool to see it getting more airtime on TH-cam.
I changed a T7 for the PR7 and I don't regret it. I do quite tough events without luggage and it almost feels like an enduro bike. Protection bars are not necessary , I had an accident on the asphalt at 80kmh and the bike continued to move, just break the tablet holder and damaging the wrist and skid protections. I spent two days in the hospital with a broken wrist, the bike is stronger than me. In short, its a war bike.
I owned a PR7 from 2020 until 2023, did not go to a T7 but to a GasGas ES700. The PR7 is a better all rounder than the 690* platform.. more comfortable, ergonomics suited to longer distance days, greater ground clearance and a lower seat. Easier to ride in the trails as it has a less aggressive power delivery. The 690 platform is a big enduro bike, you sit on rather than in it, the suspension is firmer but more rewarding when pushing harder. It takes more energy to ride it, on the road, though it lacks comfort and wind protection, the power delivery assures you that an overtake can be made. Fuel economy - I've found both to be similar.. Working on the bike, the PR7 is more simple and accessible and not over complicated, including plastics removal. Build quality, and general fit and finish and feel of plastics on the 690 platform is superior. I got the GASGAS at a great price, and had many niggles/issues with the PR7. I can imagine a return onto a PR7 in a few years - but let’s see how time and suspension adjustments go with the 690. The 690 platform is now well established and this model is unremarkable in advances, (something I want)- reliability and faith in the bike. The PR7 has amazing potential if the factory can heed the riders feedback (they seem to do so) and get an increase in marketing and brand awareness, which it certainly seems to be getting in the last few months.
I got my new PR7 in May...with no test ride and only going on other reviews. I love it so far and no issues. I now have about 4K Km. Such a huge change vs my big ADV bikes, even the HP2 Enduro. I also have an old Africa Twin and R80GS. I'm really enjoying being able to move about and throw the bike around and pick up it up with no issue. My bike doesn't have the "power up kit" with the Doma. Original GPR. I won't be adding the power up kit either, I don't need it. Of course, this is a big single, so you lose the smoothness of a mid size ADV twin, but I will keep both this and a mid size and use them for different types of travel (Ad-vent-choors). Enjoy it, I think you will buy one after the week on it!!
I have the old model with the red forks and I love to ride it here in Portugal on the fire roads, TET and go on longer adventures. I changed the ECU for the Australian ADV ENG one and I upgraded the spring rate to be able to travel with luggage. Only downside is I have some problems with the rear brake, it is a common issue and I don't have a good solutions for it. Other than that the bike is perfect for the way I want to use it and it never left me down. But I am curious about the KOVE 450 as well and I hope you can get one to test it out in the same way you did with the AJP.
Yes, lower weight is a significant advantage. After BMW 800GS, KTM 990, KTM 1050, Africa Twin CRF1000L, KTM 790 Adv R and Norden 901 I am now really enjoying the possibility to explore gnarly little roads, which I had not dared to get into on a heave, two cylinder bike. It was a good decision to to for a 701 Enduro! Effortless and more relaxed, is the best description, when trails get more technical. Still I took it all the way down to Croatia this spring. The one thing that keeps me off the PR7 is the maintainance scheme. I highly recommend to take a look in the manual.....
Yes light is right. PR7 has 5000km service interval and very easy oil change so thats no worries for me. It’s a bit more relaxed to ride than the 701/690 and mods needed to make it adv ready. I think its a good package
I really enjoyed this video. Owning a pretty modded CRF300L, I always keep searching for PR7 videos after seeing the bike in real life a couple of times. There's something magical about a small brand bike from Portugal and looks nothing like the competition. The exhaust sounded obnoxiously loud, but I take there was allready a DB killer in it? The problem I always have with single cylinders, is that any exhaust without a cat, makes it sounds 5 times louder than an OEM exhaust. Also very happy you managed to get old Mattias on two wheels again. All I see is pictures of him on boats living the life of a millionaire! And Seymour crashing in the video was something I totally didn't expect!11
Thanks mate. The race exhaust is without db-killer and you can buy it as extra from other sites. I would do that. Anyone can fall on the bike at any time. Part of the game. And it's rarely a crash. Only a light fall. Happens all the time.

Well thanks gentlemen for an objective an practical conclusion of a bike! Lighter is better? What about making distance on road highways. Will the gear ratio allow appropriate traveling speed to move towards the routes we adore?
Great trip again and nice review. I have the KTM 890 Adv R and the AJP PR7. And I find myself using every time more the PR7 here in Portugal. By the way, I removed the DOMA exhaust again. It was too loud and made the power delivery a bit too harsh. The original exhaust made it even more nimble. For me the footpegs are a bit too high (I'm 187). And I have also changed the tablet to the DMD 865 (Thork has a bracket kit for the PR7). Overall it's a great and fun bike. Yet for longer trips with a higher tarmac component I still prefer the KTM. Maybe the combo PR7 and R1300GS would be the best combo (if one has the money). Cheers

I’ve seen the bike once before in a short topic from Itchy Boots (perfect bike for her next season) and I must say that its very interesting. I found Some dealers in the Netherlands and I’ll be sure to check in out. I agree on the ‘loud’ aspect, low noise is better. On another topic; I find it interesting hoe you manage to camp, film and eat 3 nights on 40 Liters!!! Many videos out there on camping loadout but not for 3 night on 40 liters. Haha, that was a proper test drive, 4 days should be a standard :D To the subject... I'm T7 rider also, have had it now almost 5 year. I have been curious about the lighter ADV bikes and in last month I have tested both Kove 450 Rally and AJP PR7. My test rides didn't last more that 30 minutes and unfortunately I had to rode AJP in a rain. After those rides I personally prefer Kove. It is surprisingly good, and the price, it is nothing! AJP is not a bad bike of course, it's rather great bike, but few things to mention bothered me - vibrations (Kove didn't have those at all) - dash board data it offers is very narrow, there was like a fuel, rpm and speed, I would like to get at least similar level that Tenere offers (yes you can get more data on tablet screen, but I don't want tablet) - I expected that AJP would have been markably powerfull than Kove, but it wasn't, I was also bit surpriced that Tenere felt offering more power through the register than AJP (I think the bike I did ride was completely stock) - comparing the prices... it should be on the same level to Kove, then it would be tempting Few thing about the Kove for the fairness - riding position and suspension very good to my size 176 cm/98 kg - very good and sensitive brakes (as well as AJP ofc) - you need to refuel it from 3 places (three separate tanks), if you use rear thank you probably need to remove Moskomototypish luggages - been on the marked so short time that we don't have similar credible reliability knowledge than AJP (or Yamaha) - warranty (at least in our country, Finland, it is quite limited: you need to service it with the professional mechanics and if something brakes they compensate you parts but not work hours - okay, you can buy for example a new engine like 1500 eur, so this is probably not a big issue) - settings in dash board were confusing, whatever you adjusted it did not seems to affect anything - ABS did work similarly to Tenere, if engine turns off you need to set ABS off again and it takes time (more than with Tenere) (Having ridden those I'm wondering how well Yamaha has succeeded with Tenere's design!) Cant compare the 660 Minarelli engine with the AJP….no. BTW…..AJP were originally designed for the 660 Minarelli(yamaha) engine, but when they tested the 600 cc engine the 660 were dropped immediately (weight, characteristics)
Vilken trevlig recension och som var kombinerad med riktig adv-körning. Brukar själv hoppa mellan mina viktklasser (200+kg till en 160kg till en 100+kg (enduro)) och tillbaka igen, men så länge man går neråt i viktklassen så är det en go "weeee"-känsla. 🙂
Same engine as what CCM have been using, the Husqvarna 600 single. You may find a remap is available as when I had a CCM the remap really smoothed things out.
Nice video as usual Robert. I really enjoyed it. Seen some videos lately where adventure biking is no more only on 2 wheels, but 3 wheels, lol. Yes, the trikes are coming. Anyway, really was surprised of this bike and how it performed, I guess AJP websites across the world will now be swamped with visitors wanting to learn more. They could not have chosen a better influencer to test their bike. I wonder, if you will make more videos on this bike, what are cost the service intervals? High or low octane fuel? Cheers mate. I will not make more vids unless I buy one I guess, but will try some more light bikes. Service intervals 5000 km for oil and same for valve check (not really needed, owners do 10000). I got about 5 liter/100km fuel consumption. It runs on any octane available here. Ait filter is super accessible.
@@NomadSweden Sounds good Robert, I was afraid it was going to be service based on hours like the Husqvarnas and others. 500 Scandinavian miles is pretty short interval though, but hey, the more often oil changes, the better. I dont really believe the recomendations we get on our cars anymore, like once per year or 30 000km, really? Thats calculated for us to have to buy a new car after 200 000km. Is the valve check easy, or a lot of work? 0.5l/1 Scandi mile is decent. OK, on the octance. Cheers
It's ALWAYS matter of choice and compromise. I travel on R nine T Urban GS - which means I adjusted moto to type of my travelling (90/10). And I am happy with that, Good Luck Nomads !

Canadians and Swedes are quite similar I heard, so we should have shared citizenship. The riding gear is from Mosko Moto. I have the "Basilisk" pants and the "RAK" jacket.

Very nice and informative video, as always. I like the idea of the JRP, but if I were to go really light and still stay reliable, I'd rather make a WF450R road legal. Less expensive and even lighter AND Yam reliability. In France, where I live, there are people who specialise on the conversions or you can do it yourself, if you're handy. Would I take it on a trans Europe trip? Haven't tried, but people do it! Then you can get a really ccomfortable bike for longer travel, like a Honda AT, when you stay mostly on roads or gravel roads anyway! To me the T7 is really the worst of both worlds, not good enough off road and not comfortable for longer riding. Keep on doing the videos Robert! They are first class! By the way, where did you go this summer? Or have your wives put down their foot? :)
I tried the pr7 but a bit too oldschool engine for me. My 701 is much more comfortable for longer rides and just as fun in the offroad as a pr7. I also have a tuareg which is amazing, you should try that one too❤
Indeed so many factors to weigh in. In the end it's a very personal choice. Tuareg is great I've heard but I'm not interested to replace my T7. Need 100k on the ODO first :)

I have the T7 aswel! While my garage is already stocked with some other bikes and bicycles the budget is minimal haha so I’m looking for +~ 2008 crf 450 enduro. A bike with a reliable engine and usable for adventures, mx, offroad rides, … . A lot of parts available and good prices
Hey Robert! I'm total beginner to ADV riding, bought my RE Himalayan in the beginning of this year. Problem is, I only have pretty comfortable, but thick touring clothing. What do you use for hot weathers? :) Oh, and nice video! Enjoyed it, never heard of that motorcycle before!
I use layering. An armor jacket that is safe to use on its own (AA rated) when its hot and then you can put what ever ypu want on top depending on temp 👍🏻
Light is right, Robert. We all know that. But then we also want a realiable machine on journeys. Good you had that flat tyre on a sunny day ;-) The AJP is a rare and really nice bike, its high price is relative - look at that suspension. A traktor is my favourite ADV engine as well. I was very surprised by your gearbox feedback. 1st to 6th spread is only ~3% wider in pr7 vs 690. Somehow swm decided that supermoto gearbox for engine in pr7 is better. Tried both bikes and gearbox is their biggest letdown for adventure/dual sport riding. You should ride old husqvarna te610/630 to see what real wide ratio gearbox feels like.
@@Jay-hv4lb Thats interesting, I never checked the figures. Had my 2014 690 for 6 years and always wondered why the 1st gear felt so high. Butvthat could also just be a feeling since the 690 has low flywheel mass. The 6th gear always felt too low, and that could be a feeling connection to good power. The PR7 feels more right gearboxwise. Again figures are one thing and how you feel the combination och the bikes characteristics are another.
@@Braapncamp 1st gear felt so high because 690 is geared higher, you needed to swap to 50 (+4 teeth) rear sprocket to have similar speeds to stock pr7. Nova racing wide ratio gearbox should make 690 engine fantastic. Owned te630 and i know how better the gearbox is compared to pr7. Husqvarna engineers made wide ratio gearbox on enduro for a reason. Imagine running 13 front instead of 15 and still having 6th gear exactly like its on stock pr7
@@Jay-hv4lb Never tried the TE630, should be hard to find these days as with the Husaberg FE570 (how was that gearbox?), which became popular as well. I always wanted a lower 1st on the 690 but still have the higher gear ratio on the 6th. I was aware of the Nova gear set, but never considered to spend the cash. I never had a tower on the 690 either but the PowerPart front screen to reduce wind to the chest. Could imagine though that it would be nice to cruise at higher speeds more relaxed with a tower and higher front screen on the 690. After all I topped out at ca 185Km/h. The PR7 is comfortable at 120Km/h which is what could be asked for on a ADV bike like this. , but not sure where it tops out?
@@Braapncamp Havent tried fe570 but i would assume its ktm 530 gearbox. Its not as wide as te630 but its ok for what the bike is designed. 690 requires alot of money to make it light adv, thats why i sold mine. pr7 might be ok if you havent ridden enduro version of that engine. The whole point of wide ratio is the ability to comfortably ride slow technical trails and highway without changing sprockets.
Well first order of serious adventure rider business is get Mattias some possum grease for a tree with a knot hole. Now for other less serious adventure business. Our friend Pavlin the Bul went to the AJP factory a couple times and spent some time on this machine. Coming off the T7 like us he was very impressed. The bike is ready to go. Unlike many of the bikes to choose from you don't have to spend a lot of time and MONEY updating the suspension and other aspects of hard travel. Put luggage on and go. Like a bike that costs what they do should be. Seems the T7 is assembled in Portugal as well. There's a lot of unproven still expensive machines out there and coming, however spares may well be an issue as they are pieced up from what I see with the ATV's from the same makers. Alost instant warranty clams on new units. Not good. Beautiful ride. I remember the cafe from other vids. Now will you keep the T7 or move it on? IF you come to America would you ship one or rent/borrow one here? Might be good to have a spare. They used to import and sell AJP's here but I'm not sure that is an option now. Once you go lighter, you won't come back. Also, drop all the gear. Just ride into forest, drink from the streams and eat some berries on the way. Lightness
I've always found the AJP very interesting. But unfortunately it's only legal to ride in the EU with 27 hp. I'm also not sure whether I would trust the bike enough in terms of durability. That's why I bought and modified a Husqvarna 701 in addition to my Tenere 700. After the conversion, it is still 50 kg lighter than my modified Tenere and you can really feel it. I really enjoy riding both bikes (Husyk/Tenere). It's hard to decide on one.
Well here in Sweden it’s legal with the full 60hp race kit. It’s been around since 2017 with lots of problem fixes solved so I think it’s quite reliable with the latest years versions
Try the kove 450. Everybody says the power is only high up, but after changed it to the internationl airintake and ECU, i must say it has more than enough power down low. I come from a T7 as well, and I love the kove on TET ote than the T7. I have now 5'000km on it, only i problem o far, the AB cannot be turned of (ome electronic problem I guess). Get a Kove and have your own experiences, dont listen too much for reviewers, as you said, an aventure bike is something that needs to fit you, but other people looking for other ideas in it. So dont trust me either, and get one.
Robert, you said that the bike was fitted with just the race kit on it, could you then please clarify as to whether the suspension was also race spec and if so being the reason for the bike to "float" over the tracks. I remember NEMO (the Lithuanian) riding his AJP PR7 "drone" 😉 down to the AJP factory in Portugal, and I'm sure he got a suspension upggrade along the way. Eddie also had problems with the tablet. Eddie, you mean Nemo? I think he had the black and green AJP with the stock Ohlins suspensions. Robert rode the standard version with SACHS suspensions. Maybe internally upgraded but they are not the same as Nemo's indeed.
I cannot imagine a bike where filling the tank takes longer than on my T7 😅 I mean full is not full, if you know what I mean. Did you considered a different suspension on your T7 such as Öhlins or TracTive?
How about an XR650L as an alternative providing you can get it rod registered due to the strict emissions laws in EU. They are still for sale new in the US for 5-6k usd and only weight 150-160kg. I have closest alternative for the uk being a FX650 with enduro bike suspension to make it into a dual sport. Love the lightweight feel and the grunt in the low revs from RVFC engine
any thoughts about Husky 701? I am in same situation trying to find something to replace or just to sit next to my Tuareg 660. Considering AJP, 701 and 500exc(same thoughts as You about maintenance but You can have bigger oil ammount after modification)
I don't have enough 701 experience to compare, except that it is leaning a little bit more towards enduro and that it takes a lot of money to make it ADV ready (seat, tower etc). But a good bike for sure. The AJP comes ADV ready.
@@NomadSweden yeah, good point. for tower and seat it is easy 2k Eur. I am just worried about spare parts for AJP. Is it easy in Norway to service it ? My Tuareg 660 is not super easy to service and to get parts and Aprilia is way bigger company than AJP.
You started this video with the best advice and comment and that is the "perfect bike" is different for everybody. The key is to not let the internet tell you that you on the wrong bike. Make up your own mind based on the riding you WANT and ACTUALLY do.

Yes the T7 is a fantastic bike! Congrats. Awesome that you got the Amok hammock. Amazing to sleep (and wake up) in. Just make sure to take a piss before you go to bed :D It's not easy to get up in the middle of the night :)

Here's my 2 cents on the PR7 after 4 months of ownership...and these are the same things most PR7 owners discuss:
The PR7 is well equipped for a range of riding styles, good torquey engine, easy maintenance, good handling, good suspension, decent range, low CG, very narrow compared to other ADV bikes, no ABS or Riding modes to deal with.
What could be improved: Even in Europe dealers are scarce (depends where you live), but it’s not been an issue so far, no ABS so you need to get used to that and be careful if you have never been on a non-ABS bike, the foot pegs are a bit high, but it does have great ground clearance, skid plate looks good but weak mounting points (just a 10mm bolt in front and a tab in rear-several aftermarket models coming soon), cold start issues sometimes even in mild weather (but it will eventually start), the “Rally computer” looks cool but its just a semi weatherized Samsung pad, and not a good one at that (but it comes with DMD2 loaded and you can watch movies on Wi-Fi, send email etc.) and I will remove it and replace with a Garmin and later a real computer. Some fittings are good quality and others are not…it’s hit or miss. Fueling it sucks and you will soak your crotch and the seat in gas at least once till you find the right technique (There is an aftermarket filler cap available for it though). You will either wear out the original off-road tires in under 2K KM or immediately replace them with more ADV oriented tires. They are good off road, but they will not last, and you will replace them anyway…just put a good 75/25 (offroad/road) tire from the factory AJP!!
I know this seems more oriented to complaints then what’s good about bike but it’s not…I just want folks to understand what most of us PR7 owners discuss about the bike. I have NO REGRETS buying this bike vs the very limited competition (I don’t like oranges anyway).

The fueling is just about adapting your technique I feel. Angle the stream down the towards the tank and sing a song and you will be finished! Extra plus is filling the tube up to the cap gives you extra liters of range if need to.

Have it, Love it! I have the GRP exhaust and mapping for 48 Hp and feel that it is prefect power. This is, as you say not at high rpm weapon, but a chugger. so the extra hp feel unnecessary. Selling my adv tourer and honda rally so this wil be my only bike. It is happy to sit on highways at 110 kph and on gravel trails at 30.

Coming from a T7 and a long time fan of your videos, I considered the AJP and the 701 HVA when I wanted to go lighter. I was on a 10000€ budget, but no used ones popped at that time. I considered the KOVE 450, and I realized that all the fancy kits I wanted to put on The AJP or 701 came standard on the Kove and more. I bought the KOVE and loved it ever since. The engine is not "only power in the high revs", it's chugging power on the low revs, until it just explodes on the high revs. It delivers power only if you want to. You get a gentle purring and easy engine when you want to go slow and just ride the trails, and you get a rally machine at high revs if you want. You could test ride one and make up your mind. But the AJP is really more comfortable. If you kept the T7, you could go Kove, but if it is a replacement, the AJP is a better choice.

@@guillaume05ch 2000km on the Kove seems to be race/rally speced. Those extending it to be like an RX4 i have seen no issues. Looks solid.
But i don't like the oil cooler position. Belly tanks and rear "remove luggage to fuel" cap. Still tempting as many parts of the design is better than PR7, none perfect.

I think the seat worth a mention: quite comfortable kompared to a KTM one. Also the engine has nicer sound in first gear than 690/701. Oil change every 5000km, and you need to check the valves too. Air filter is up high, easily changeable. Mine came with Michelin Desert race tires with rimlocks. I really enjoy it!

We do have fantastic opportunities for riding here. The trick is to not ride the same place too often. Trails like the TET get in trouble when locals get tired of all the bikes going the same route.

ADV riding always seems to be a compromise as the ‘perfect’ bike doesn’t exist. The PR7 solves many of the usual issues/complaints with its lightness and good suspension built-in from the start. The overall package is ready to ADV out of the box - no need to change the pegs, suspension, etc, etc. Of course, the answer to all of our ADV biking needs, is to have a few bikes, perhaps 3 (light, medium and big!). But if you had to limit yourself to one bike what would it be? I bought a used PR7 a few years ago and enjoy the simplicity and utility of the bike. It’s quite a rare bike here in Australia but ready for Simpson Desert, Cape York, local weekend rides and anything in between.
My advice, for what it’s worth, if to get a PR7 but keep the T7 as it doesn’t owe you anything. See which you ride the most over the next 12 months. What a wonderful dilemma to have! Keep sharing (please).

@NomadSweden End of the day, you remember the fun and the ease, every bike will have a good point that you can do long asphalt with and as long as you an sit straight up it won't be a problem. But the handling, like tou said, tension on your shoulders arms and the dissapointment when you drop plus the hassle of picking it up and simply balancing it while standing next to it, that strain is demotivational and tiring, ir makes it more survival then adventure, haha.
Haha, first two and the three happy campers lost on the woods. Well captured an alot more interesting to compare feelings of different bikes to each other than numbers. We did not really covered the feeling of engine power compared to your T7. We touched the well combined gearbox ratio and spread to power, but not in comparison. Have this bike for close to a year now. I am truly enjoying it, much more fun to ride offroad than the "middleweights" like T7, Tuareg etc. Very confidence inspiring. Not bad onroad either. It keeps a pretty solid line onroad when doing around 110-120kph, no wobbles. I put the Mitas Trail XT+ tires on after wearing out the stock Michelin Trackers, almost as good offroad, much better for the onroad sections.
It does carry luggage including full camping gear well.
A preload adjuster on the back would be nice, there is a guy on the AJP forum who has worked something out, will try that. Other than that, I think the ZF Sachs suspension is really good.
Oil changes are relatively simple, same goes for the valve check.
Niggles: for me (1.90m) still a little bit cramped seating position, footpegs can't be lowered easily because of the strange exhaust routing. Also bashplate this close to the pipes seems like trouble ahead on a big hit offroad. Fueling is always interesting, takes effort and time, and don't fill it up too far, it will spill out the fuel from the bottom.
If you go for the stock exhaust system, immediately place an extra spacer on the exhaust hanger, the muffler will move in and damage your swingarm.
I alerted the AJP importer in my country about this, they deny all responsibility and blamed it on me, claiming I had fallen with it on the exhaust (which isn't true). So be aware of difficulty with warranty claims, AJP can be hard to deal with. I know this from the AJP dealer who is close by. But this may be dependend on which country you are in.
Tablet is pretty much worthless, no storage space, and offline maps can't be stored easily on added sd-cards, because Google has made this mostly impossible for most apps. Better to get something from Thork, for storage and visibility. Love the DMD2 software on it though.
Headlights I replaced with an LED unit, the stock headlights are useless in for example dark tunnels or even generally for being visible.
Fuel gauge is working intermittently, and when it does, it doesn't move for the first 190km, then goes down really fast. I always make sure I put the trip counter on. Offroad fill up around 290km, onroad a little more.
Lastly, the turning radius is crap, small turns will cause some surprises in the beginning.
Overall, I like the bike because I think it is pretty much incomparable for what it offers as stock (Husqvarna 701 has to specced up a lot to get close to compare to this), and the ride offroad is just excellent. But it does have it niggles.

@@NomadSweden And it shouldn't scare you away. You live with the niggles, work around them (how to fuel up, you change tablets, add a bar riser for ergonomics etc.) and then enjoy how it rides. Because that part is just really well sorted. It makes you feel so confident that you can really make big steps skill-wise
You can improve the turning radius by adding a dent in the upper front edge of the radiators. Many have done it…..

If you fill the fuel funnel going into the tank until you see fuel. the fuel meter will read full for the first 100+ km before you start burning fuel in the tank. Its a feature! extra fuel capacity!

I've had mine since April - no issues and it's my unicorn.. to put that in context, ive had a V85TT (I have 2 other Guzzis..), then a Tuareg; now the PR7. Each bike was fine, yet for the harder off-road the AJP is so much easier and confidence inspiring 😂 And, with its balance shaft, is surprisingly smooth on the tar, so don't miss the bigger twins..

Nice video! I might get on top of a PR7 this weekend. Very time restricted test ride but I might post my thoughts too if I have the time to make something. Definitely fun to see some of these bikes appear that are specifically made towards us 'adventureriders'.

Really enjoyed watching that guys...what a fab mini adventure!. The AJP is a really capable bike..but for big trips with big mileage the reliability of the T7 is hard to beat. But on tricky terrain it's a heavy bike and a big weight saving is really tempting! By the way, i tried the T7 Extreme but it's SO tall...I'm 6ft but was on my tiptoes. That translates into stress doing U turns, manoeuvring on decks of ferries etc. So my head rules my heart on that one. Some money spent on the suspension of my T7 will be the way for me...and i will resurrect my beloved XR650R for the odd occasion i ride tricky terrain. If only Honda would make a new XR650R with electric start it would be THE unicorn bike!! Ps..the hammocks look so glorious to sleep in...Cheers, Steve 💚

Happy to see you liking it. I made the T7 to PR7 swap this spring and not looking. So far only ridden it home here in Sweden, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia.
It's been perfect, my luggage (Rogal XL) sits perfect, no thing on the tail needed, i have small brackets near the footpegs for the straps. Kriega base sits poorly so ditching that.
Main annoyance is wind noise, and maybe 130km/h highway vibrations. But isn't great speed for TKC80 anyway.
I would love if they could have used the 5th and 6th from the TE630 Enduro instead of SM ratios.
Also considering T865X swap for the tablet, liking the DMD2 dashboard. And they have a bracket for the PR7.
Kove 450 Rally is still an option, even lighter and less vibrations I'm told. Could not get one in time, no test ride available and PR7 has 50% more torque 40Nm -> 60Nm. But i don't really need that.
I'll look in to making an "aero shield" with less wind noise for the PR7.

Hello! First of all thank you very much. As someone thinking to start adventouring, i found this review very useful! I am very torned on which bike I should purchase. Lets start with the facts: I am 1,81m tall, pretty well trained overall and skilled on asphalt (i own a RSV4 for street and trackday use). The problem: i never did off-road. I was initially leaning toward the reliable tenere. My dream is to make those big adventures offroad in remote places (Mongolia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, etc), so apparently T7 was perfect choice, but I have been highly discouraged because of my inexperience combined with a very tall seat and very high center of gravity with high weight for the T7. I am scared from the reliability of the KTM and Aprilia as well and so I started to search for something smaller, mainly focusing to the Kove 450 rally (vey good fuel capacity adn reviews but question mark over reliability and 2000km oil change) and this AJP PR7. To me, on paper, it looks like this ADV bike is the definitive choice for my needs, but would you reccommend it from your overall experience? To be honest, I would hate to start purchasing a smaller enduro to improve my skills because owning three motorbikes would definetely be too much.
Hi. Valid concerns for sure. I have only had tall bikes but learned alot on moutainbiking downhill etc. I do think the AJP is a great starting bike. It has 5000km maintenance intervals so its a bit more than the usual adv bikes. I have yet to experience how reliable it is but reading owner reviews etc it seems ok. But nothing can beat the japs 😊Keep an eye out for the new bikes 2025. There are a lot of new smaller bikes coming as it seems to be the next trend. You can learn offroad on a T7 but a lighter bike is much less frustrating. Good luck!

If I had known I'd get a second, more street-oriented bike in 2024, I would have had a look at the new Beta Alp 4.0 for pure offroad travelling instead of the more powerful 701.

Well done , Scandi adv always quality videos. Yamaha should make a lightweight 450 for off road adventure riding. Lifting the front wheel easily really helps skipping obstacles. I like the AJP low fuel tank 👍

I had one briefly. It was my unicorn bike. Discovered i don't have any unicorn trails near me, and i'm not a unicorn rider. Had trouble getting used to the snappy throttle. I still think it's a great bike, just not in my hands, or where I live. Nearest dealer was about 1000 miles away too, which wasn't very helpful when i had a problem and had to ship it round-trip. it's cool to see it getting more airtime on TH-cam.

I changed a T7 for the PR7 and I don't regret it. I do quite tough events without luggage and it almost feels like an enduro bike. Protection bars are not necessary , I had an accident on the asphalt at 80kmh and the bike continued to move, just break the tablet holder and damaging the wrist and skid protections. I spent two days in the hospital with a broken wrist, the bike is stronger than me. In short, its a war bike.

I owned a PR7 from 2020 until 2023, did not go to a T7 but to a GasGas ES700.
The PR7 is a better all rounder than the 690* platform.. more comfortable, ergonomics suited to longer distance days, greater ground clearance and a lower seat. Easier to ride in the trails as it has a less aggressive power delivery.
The 690 platform is a big enduro bike, you sit on rather than in it, the suspension is firmer but more rewarding when pushing harder. It takes more energy to ride it, on the road, though it lacks comfort and wind protection, the power delivery assures you that an overtake can be made.
Fuel economy - I've found both to be similar..
Working on the bike, the PR7 is more simple and accessible and not over complicated, including plastics removal.
Build quality, and general fit and finish and feel of plastics on the 690 platform is superior.
I got the GASGAS at a great price, and had many niggles/issues with the PR7.
I can imagine a return onto a PR7 in a few years - but let’s see how time and suspension adjustments go with the 690.
The 690 platform is now well established and this model is unremarkable in advances, (something I want)- reliability and faith in the bike.
The PR7 has amazing potential if the factory can heed the riders feedback (they seem to do so) and get an increase in marketing and brand awareness, which it certainly seems to be getting in the last few months.

I got my new PR7 in May...with no test ride and only going on other reviews. I love it so far and no issues. I now have about 4K Km. Such a huge change vs my big ADV bikes, even the HP2 Enduro. I also have an old Africa Twin and R80GS. I'm really enjoying being able to move about and throw the bike around and pick up it up with no issue. My bike doesn't have the "power up kit" with the Doma. Original GPR. I won't be adding the power up kit either, I don't need it. Of course, this is a big single, so you lose the smoothness of a mid size ADV twin, but I will keep both this and a mid size and use them for different types of travel (Ad-vent-choors). Enjoy it, I think you will buy one after the week on it!!

I have the old model with the red forks and I love to ride it here in Portugal on the fire roads, TET and go on longer adventures. I changed the ECU for the Australian ADV ENG one and I upgraded the spring rate to be able to travel with luggage. Only downside is I have some problems with the rear brake, it is a common issue and I don't have a good solutions for it. Other than that the bike is perfect for the way I want to use it and it never left me down. But I am curious about the KOVE 450 as well and I hope you can get one to test it out in the same way you did with the AJP.

Yes, lower weight is a significant advantage. After BMW 800GS, KTM 990, KTM 1050, Africa Twin CRF1000L, KTM 790 Adv R and Norden 901 I am now really enjoying the possibility to explore gnarly little roads, which I had not dared to get into on a heave, two cylinder bike. It was a good decision to to for a 701 Enduro! Effortless and more relaxed, is the best description, when trails get more technical. Still I took it all the way down to Croatia this spring.
The one thing that keeps me off the PR7 is the maintainance scheme. I highly recommend to take a look in the manual.....
Yes light is right. PR7 has 5000km service interval and very easy oil change so thats no worries for me. It’s a bit more relaxed to ride than the 701/690 and mods needed to make it adv ready. I think its a good package
I really enjoyed this video. Owning a pretty modded CRF300L, I always keep searching for PR7 videos after seeing the bike in real life a couple of times. There's something magical about a small brand bike from Portugal and looks nothing like the competition. The exhaust sounded obnoxiously loud, but I take there was allready a DB killer in it? The problem I always have with single cylinders, is that any exhaust without a cat, makes it sounds 5 times louder than an OEM exhaust.
Also very happy you managed to get old Mattias on two wheels again. All I see is pictures of him on boats living the life of a millionaire!

Thanks mate. The race exhaust is without db-killer and you can buy it as extra from other sites. I would do that. Anyone can fall on the bike at any time. Part of the game. And it's rarely a crash. Only a light fall. Happens all the time.

Well thanks gentlemen for an objective an practical conclusion of a bike! Lighter is better? What about making distance on road highways. Will the gear ratio allow appropriate traveling speed to move towards the routes we adore?
Weight vs comfort is a balance but I think the AJP has my kind of compromise. Quite ok to travel far with good seat, wind protection and high gear.
Great trip again and nice review. I have the KTM 890 Adv R and the AJP PR7. And I find myself using every time more the PR7 here in Portugal. By the way, I removed the DOMA exhaust again. It was too loud and made the power delivery a bit too harsh. The original exhaust made it even more nimble. For me the footpegs are a bit too high (I'm 187). And I have also changed the tablet to the DMD 865 (Thork has a bracket kit for the PR7). Overall it's a great and fun bike. Yet for longer trips with a higher tarmac component I still prefer the KTM. Maybe the combo PR7 and R1300GS would be the best combo (if one has the money). Cheers

I’ve seen the bike once before in a short topic from Itchy Boots (perfect bike for her next season) and I must say that its very interesting. I found Some dealers in the Netherlands and I’ll be sure to check in out. I agree on the ‘loud’ aspect, low noise is better.
On another topic; I find it interesting hoe you manage to camp, film and eat 3 nights on 40 Liters!!! Many videos out there on camping loadout but not for 3 night on 40 liters.

To the subject... I'm T7 rider also, have had it now almost 5 year. I have been curious about the lighter ADV bikes and in last month I have tested both Kove 450 Rally and AJP PR7. My test rides didn't last more that 30 minutes and unfortunately I had to rode AJP in a rain.
After those rides I personally prefer Kove. It is surprisingly good, and the price, it is nothing!
AJP is not a bad bike of course, it's rather great bike, but few things to mention bothered me
- vibrations (Kove didn't have those at all)
- dash board data it offers is very narrow, there was like a fuel, rpm and speed, I would like to get at least similar level that Tenere offers (yes you can get more data on tablet screen, but I don't want tablet)
- I expected that AJP would have been markably powerfull than Kove, but it wasn't, I was also bit surpriced that Tenere felt offering more power through the register than AJP (I think the bike I did ride was completely stock)
- comparing the prices... it should be on the same level to Kove, then it would be tempting
Few thing about the Kove for the fairness
- riding position and suspension very good to my size 176 cm/98 kg
- very good and sensitive brakes (as well as AJP ofc)
- you need to refuel it from 3 places (three separate tanks), if you use rear thank you probably need to remove Moskomototypish luggages
- been on the marked so short time that we don't have similar credible reliability knowledge than AJP (or Yamaha)
- warranty (at least in our country, Finland, it is quite limited: you need to service it with the professional mechanics and if something brakes they compensate you parts but not work hours - okay, you can buy for example a new engine like 1500 eur, so this is probably not a big issue)
- settings in dash board were confusing, whatever you adjusted it did not seems to affect anything
- ABS did work similarly to Tenere, if engine turns off you need to set ABS off again and it takes time (more than with Tenere)
(Having ridden those I'm wondering how well Yamaha has succeeded with Tenere's design!)

Cant compare the 660 Minarelli engine with the AJP….no. BTW…..AJP were originally designed for the 660 Minarelli(yamaha) engine, but when they tested the 600 cc engine the 660 were dropped immediately (weight, characteristics)
Vilken trevlig recension och som var kombinerad med riktig adv-körning. Brukar själv hoppa mellan mina viktklasser (200+kg till en 160kg till en 100+kg (enduro)) och tillbaka igen, men så länge man går neråt i viktklassen så är det en go "weeee"-känsla. 🙂

Seen some videos lately where adventure biking is no more only on 2 wheels, but 3 wheels, lol. Yes, the trikes are coming.
Anyway, really was surprised of this bike and how it performed, I guess AJP websites across the world will now be swamped with visitors wanting to learn more. They could not have chosen a better influencer to test their bike.
I wonder, if you will make more videos on this bike, what are cost the service intervals? High or low octane fuel? What mpg or l/100km did you get? How easy, or difficult is the air filter to get to? How good are the lights?

Cheers mate. I will not make more vids unless I buy one I guess, but will try some more light bikes. Service intervals 5000 km for oil and same for valve check (not really needed, owners do 10000). I got about 5 liter/100km fuel consumption. It runs on any octane available here. Ait filter is super accessible.
@@NomadSweden Sounds good Robert, I was afraid it was going to be service based on hours like the Husqvarnas and others. 500 Scandinavian miles is pretty short interval though, but hey, the more often oil changes, the better. I dont really believe the recomendations we get on our cars anymore, like once per year or 30 000km, really? Thats calculated for us to have to buy a new car after 200 000km.
Is the valve check easy, or a lot of work?

It's ALWAYS matter of choice and compromise. I travel on R nine T Urban GS - which means I adjusted moto to type of my travelling (90/10). And I am happy with that, Good Luck Nomads !

Very nice and informative video, as always. I like the idea of the JRP, but if I were to go really light and still stay reliable, I'd rather make a WF450R road legal. Less expensive and even lighter AND Yam reliability. In France, where I live, there are people who specialise on the conversions or you can do it yourself, if you're handy. Would I take it on a trans Europe trip? Haven't tried, but people do it!
Then you can get a really ccomfortable bike for longer travel, like a Honda AT, when you stay mostly on roads or gravel roads anyway! To me the T7 is really the worst of both worlds, not good enough off road and not comfortable for longer riding.

I tried the pr7 but a bit too oldschool engine for me. My 701 is much more comfortable for longer rides and just as fun in the offroad as a pr7. I also have a tuareg which is amazing, you should try that one too❤
Indeed so many factors to weigh in. In the end it's a very personal choice. Tuareg is great I've heard but I'm not interested to replace my T7. Need 100k on the ODO first :)

I have the T7 aswel! While my garage is already stocked with some other bikes and bicycles the budget is minimal haha so I’m looking for +~ 2008 crf 450 enduro. A bike with a reliable engine and usable for adventures, mx, offroad rides, … . A lot of parts available and good prices

I use layering. An armor jacket that is safe to use on its own (AA rated) when its hot and then you can put what ever ypu want on top depending on temp 👍🏻

Good you had that flat tyre on a sunny day ;-) The AJP is a rare and really nice bike, its high price is relative - look at that suspension. A traktor is my favourite ADV engine as well. I was very surprised by your gearbox feedback. 1st to 6th spread is only ~3% wider in pr7 vs 690.
Somehow swm decided that supermoto gearbox for engine in pr7 is better.
Tried both bikes and gearbox is their biggest letdown for adventure/dual sport riding.
You should ride old husqvarna te610/630 to see what real wide ratio gearbox feels like.
So many bikes to choose from. I did like the gearbox. That's all I know.
@@Jay-hv4lb Thats interesting, I never checked the figures. Had my 2014 690 for 6 years and always wondered why the 1st gear felt so high. Butvthat could also just be a feeling since the 690 has low flywheel mass. The 6th gear always felt too low, and that could be a feeling connection to good power. The PR7 feels more right gearboxwise. Again figures are one thing and how you feel the combination och the bikes characteristics are another.
@@Braapncamp 1st gear felt so high because 690 is geared higher, you needed to swap to 50 (+4 teeth) rear sprocket to have similar speeds to stock pr7. Nova racing wide ratio gearbox should make 690 engine fantastic.
Owned te630 and i know how better the gearbox is compared to pr7. Husqvarna engineers made wide ratio gearbox on enduro for a reason.
Imagine running 13 front instead of 15 and still having 6th gear exactly like its on stock pr7
@@Jay-hv4lb Never tried the TE630, should be hard to find these days as with the Husaberg FE570 (how was that gearbox?), which became popular as well. I always wanted a lower 1st on the 690 but still have the higher gear ratio on the 6th. I was aware of the Nova gear set, but never considered to spend the cash. I never had a tower on the 690 either but the PowerPart front screen to reduce wind to the chest. Could imagine though that it would be nice to cruise at higher speeds more relaxed with a tower and higher front screen on the 690. After all I topped out at ca 185Km/h. The PR7 is comfortable at 120Km/h which is what could be asked for on a ADV bike like this. , but not sure where it tops out?
@@Braapncamp Havent tried fe570 but i would assume its ktm 530 gearbox. Its not as wide as te630 but its ok for what the bike is designed.
690 requires alot of money to make it light adv, thats why i sold mine.
pr7 might be ok if you havent ridden enduro version of that engine.
The whole point of wide ratio is the ability to comfortably ride slow technical trails and highway without changing sprockets.
Well first order of serious adventure rider business is get Mattias some possum grease for a tree with a knot hole. Now for other less serious adventure business. Our friend Pavlin the Bul went to the AJP factory a couple times and spent some time on this machine. Coming off the T7 like us he was very impressed. The bike is ready to go. Unlike many of the bikes to choose from you don't have to spend a lot of time and MONEY updating the suspension and other aspects of hard travel. Put luggage on and go. Like a bike that costs what they do should be. Seems the T7 is assembled in Portugal as well. There's a lot of unproven still expensive machines out there and coming, however spares may well be an issue as they are pieced up from what I see with the ATV's from the same makers. Alost instant warranty clams on new units. Not good. Beautiful ride. I remember the cafe from other vids. Now will you keep the T7 or move it on? IF you come to America would you ship one or rent/borrow one here? Might be good to have a spare. They used to import and sell AJP's here but I'm not sure that is an option now. Thank mate. The Pr7 is a complete package for sure. But I have a hard time letting go of the T7 so it will take time to laundry enough money for a second bike. Kentucky is still on the list :)
@@NomadSweden Mine tries to kill me occasionally but with modt every ride I feel like I won Dakar. Great machine, but top heavy. The low twin tanks like TS's doesn't seem that way from what I can tell
Once you go lighter, you won't come back. Also, drop all the gear. Just ride into forest, drink from the streams and eat some berries on the way. Lightness

I've always found the AJP very interesting. But unfortunately it's only legal to ride in the EU with 27 hp.
I'm also not sure whether I would trust the bike enough in terms of durability.
That's why I bought and modified a Husqvarna 701 in addition to my Tenere 700.
After the conversion, it is still 50 kg lighter than my modified Tenere and you can really feel it.
I really enjoy riding both bikes (Husyk/Tenere). It's hard to decide on one.
Well here in Sweden it’s legal with the full 60hp race kit. It’s been around since 2017 with lots of problem fixes solved so I think it’s quite reliable with the latest years versions

Try the kove 450. Everybody says the power is only high up, but after changed it to the internationl airintake and ECU, i must say it has more than enough power down low. I come from a T7 as well, and I love the kove on TET ote than the T7. I have now 5'000km on it, only i problem o far, the AB cannot be turned of (ome electronic problem I guess). Get a Kove and have your own experiences, dont listen too much for reviewers, as you said, an aventure bike is something that needs to fit you, but other people looking for other ideas in it. So dont trust me either, and get one.

Robert, you said that the bike was fitted with just the race kit on it, could you then please clarify as to whether the suspension was also race spec and if so being the reason for the bike to "float" over the tracks. I remember NEMO (the Lithuanian) riding his AJP PR7 "drone" 😉 down to the AJP factory in Portugal, and I'm sure he got a suspension upggrade along the way. Eddie also had problems with the tablet. Eddie, you mean Nemo? I think he had the black and green AJP with the stock Ohlins suspensions. Robert rode the standard version with SACHS suspensions. Maybe internally upgraded but they are not the same as Nemo's indeed.
This was the standard suspension and not the "gold edition" with Öhlins. (I hear that suspension is very hard for racing). I like the standard.

Yes I would, but I would do it differently and take much more time.
I cannot imagine a bike where filling the tank takes longer than on my T7 😅 I mean full is not full, if you know what I mean.
Did you considered a different suspension on your T7 such as Öhlins or TracTive?
I know the ”full is not full” 😊I have tuned my stock suspension on the T7 at a race company but will not change it for something else. It works well
How about an XR650L as an alternative providing you can get it rod registered due to the strict emissions laws in EU. They are still for sale new in the US for 5-6k usd and only weight 150-160kg. I have closest alternative for the uk being a FX650 with enduro bike suspension to make it into a dual sport. Love the lightweight feel and the grunt in the low revs from RVFC engine

any thoughts about Husky 701? I am in same situation trying to find something to replace or just to sit next to my Tuareg 660. Considering AJP, 701 and 500exc(same thoughts as You about maintenance but You can have bigger oil ammount after modification)
I don't have enough 701 experience to compare, except that it is leaning a little bit more towards enduro and that it takes a lot of money to make it ADV ready (seat, tower etc). But a good bike for sure. The AJP comes ADV ready.
@@NomadSweden yeah, good point. for tower and seat it is easy 2k Eur. I am just worried about spare parts for AJP. Is it easy in Norway to service it ? My Tuareg 660 is not super easy to service and to get parts and Aprilia is way bigger company than AJP.
