      I wouldn't at all be opposed to Casio coming up with a really rugged watch without G-Shock looks-itis. That being said, before G-Shock, personality in watches WAS fairly bland. Adding personality: yes. Dogmatically adding the same personality each time, not so much.

I never changed the battery in it and it lasted until 2011. The 20+ year battery life was great. I ended up retiring that watch when the battery died and got the Japan exclusive GW-5000 which has the nice screw back design of my beloved DW-5600, but also has solar charging and radio reception for automatic timekeeping. I don't plan on ever replacing this watch.

    Been wearing it for a week now. I love mine. But, I've given up on trying to keep up with the latest and greatest smartwatch tech. I just want a watch first, smartwatch second. I do wish they'd gone with updated silicon and better battery life, tho I do like the timepiece only function.
    I also have an Omega Speedy for my mechanical fix, or whenever I need to dress things up a bit.
    If you're someone who cares about paying for stuff with your watch or storing music (I always have my phone on me anyways), then this may not be for you. But, if you appreciate timepieces over smart functions, then you may also love this one.

    I keep being tempted by smartwatches and never pulling the trigger. While price, battery life, etc., have been issues for me the biggest is simultaneous paring to multiple phones. Another awesome video, sir! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: smartwatches don’t interest me even a bit and I will probably never buy one but your smartwatch videos are so great that I watch them anyway! And enjoy them! No wonder if you sometimes stress a bit about video publishing times when you always make these masterpieces! Your videos are always one of the best among tech videos. But a word or two about the watch too: as a boy I owned some Casio watches in the 1980’s. They really wouldn’t break. Even in use of wild kid like I used to be. The only reason to get new one was the looks. I just wanted new one although the old one was still working. I bet they are still working somewhere. I’ve lost them all. I also had a watch that was also calculator. It had rubber buttons for every number and other function under display. I can’t remember if it was Casio or what.

    G-Shocks can be huge, but many of their chunkiest designs wear surprisingly easy and light. If you opt for one of the conventional (non-"smart") models, you still get a functionally-loaded solar-powered, self-adjusting, perfectly accurate, completely autonomous timepiece that you'll pass down to your grand kids. My first G, a relatively primitive DW-6600, is going strong 26 years after I bought it.

    i have been a G shock user for over 15 years... loving the durability and long lasting of these watches i have been wondering if they did make a smart watch knowing they would have done there best to make it as durable as any of there others

    My dad and I both wear G-Shocks. I thought about the Smart Watch they came out with but I use an IPhone and I’m just not a fan of wear OS in the first place. Still it looks fucking awesome

    Not gonna lie, i like it. If my active watch 2 ever dies, i would seriously concider this, if it got a few key upgrades like auto brightness and speakerphone ability. LOVE the G shock line

    This is one of the reasons I left Android Wear watches. I have 4 watches sitting in a drawer because they were no longer supported a year or less after they came out. My Sony Smart Watch 3 had NFC that was never activated. It was the main reason I bought the watch. My Gear S3 Frontier LTE however just received an update as recently as 2 weeks ago. So did my wife's Gear S2, 5 and 6 years later. 🤔
    I'm not looking forward to Samsung moving to Wear OS at all.

    What?!!! Bluetooth 4.2?! I need to check my calendar... what year is this?!!!
    2GB Storage?! Unreliable battery?
    This is just being cheap!
    I totally agree with the final thoughts. It's only for the G-Shock collectors.

    Great video. I'm a big watch fan, and Casio and G-Shock hold a special place in my heart, but I'm not on board with smart watches in general just yet. I'll hold out until technology is both faster and cheaper before pulling the trigger on one.

    Great video. Im a bit torn between one of these new or a as new, but used GPR B1000 Rangeman. I think I've just gone off the smart watch a bit after seeing this video. I really don't understand why they've discontinued the GPR B1000 Rangeman. It makes no sense. I'm not a G Shock collector. In face I haven't worn a watch since about 93. I just love what the Rangeman can do & I like the look of it.

    I don't give a shit about smartwatches, it's probably the most useful piece of tech in my eyes. But I'll still watch a MrMobile video about it because of the amazing narrating, editing and overall production value.

    Thanks for this, as usual, well made and enjoyable review. The only innovation the Casio brings, which I'd like to see on far more Wear OS devices, is 20 bar/ATM water resistance. Even better if someone brings out a 10ATM watch with a speaker.

    Thanks for the awesome video, Mr. Mobile! I've been on the lookout for watches with the snapdragon 4100 myself and I only know of one option which was the new ticwatch. Do you know of any others that carry the same internals?

    I wouldn't say it's a fail though it's just the beginning but for somebody like me that's been wearing G-Shocks since I was 10 this is perfect. I don't care for all the bells and whistles what I want is that glowing screen when I flip my wrist. That's what G-Shock is cool and comfortable and durable. You sold me with all those glowing screens of the time super futuristic I love it

    Side note for anyone wondering. Samsung already confirmed their current Galaxy Watch 3 won't get the software update option to the new Wear OS because the hardware can't support it so obviously no way this one can if in fact it's running a Samsung chip.

  • @tams805

    I'm going to guess that this has been in development for a while and they decided they just had to go ahead with the launch after all that. And as you said, it's an enthusiasts watch so the market in some senses can be a bit more forgiving (as long as it lives up to the name in other areas).
    I just hope Google don't mess up Tizen OS. Wear OS is such heavy beast in comparison and all it has going for it over Tizen is the app selection. And even then, only just. So, I hope the deal is for Google to pretty much abandon Wear OS and use Tizen (perhaps just rebranding it as 'Wear OS' for themselves).

    When I saw the video title I wondered if buying the Casio gbdh1000 was a mistake. Lol nope! All the sensors, 16 hours GPS tracking, forever battery w/o GPS or heart rate sensor thanks to solar. Connects to smart phone so I don't miss calls which is all the smart features I need on a watch. Cost was below USD 300!

    For all those wondering why it took so long to make a G-SHOCK smartwatch, name one other smartwatch which is rated by the maker to survive a 10m drop, has 200m water resistance and has a (low power mode) 30 day battery life. I'll wait...

    • @jeremiahdudek3196
      @jeremiahdudek3196 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has a low power mode that lasts 30 days because in low power mode it literally tells time and that's it. It's no impressive feat. Second how many people are actually going to go that deep in the water almost zero. They are gimmicks.

    • @LordTechPro
      @LordTechPro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeremiahdudek3196 That display is also smart. On a medium low power mode it can show your heart rate, elevation etc, without you needing to turn on the main screen. It is not a gimmick, it is 20 bar water resist, which means it should withstand showers, pressure washers, steam and the like

    I'm definitely what you'd consider a watch enthusiast. Funny enough, I bought a galaxy watch 2 and realizing I would never use a smart watch enough to own one is what turned me on to analog watches. Now I always have a mechanical automatic watch on my wrist and enjoy it so much more. Thanks Samsung!! 🤣

    Love Casio and G-Shock timepieces, much more values for money and functionalities than Swiss luxury brands could ever hope to achieve. But then again, one probably buys those Swiss-made money sinkholes as investments rather than anything with practical usage...
