It's not that smart watches are too expensive (they are, though). It's that their battery life sucks. I am using a Garmin that gives me 18-19 DAYS of actual use time with continuous heart rate monitoring. It ain't fancy nor particularly cheap, but it's a lot better than the 6-8 HOURS of battery life I was getting from my Apple Watch.

Has notifications but will only show you SMS and won't show you RCS messages. Strava integration does not upload GPS or HR data. You can't turn off goals so you get random notifications for standing up etc. You can set running goals per mile or time but time is 30 60 90 etc so you can't set like a 20 min run or workout. I've had a Huawei GT 2e for a few years now for about the same price as this (£55) and it's quite similar in features, though it doesn't have a speaker/mic and therefore doesn't take calls (it will vibrate/show there's an incoming call to my phone though). It has a 7-day battery life including full tracking of my daily walk.
My previous smartwatch was a much more expensive Galaxy Watch 1, which I only used half the features of and only had a 3-4 day battery life (later versions had even less!). 6:15 If the watch is certified to IEC60529 then IP#8 should be fine for swimming in fresh water to a depth of at least 1m without impactful fluid ingress.
Theoretically indefinite submersion but typically defined by manufacturer as a period >30 minutes, otherwise it would be IP#7.
In real terms, it is certified in a lab environment for a defined period of time greater than 30-minutes and to at least 1m, but would be suitable for casual swimming.

I don't understand comparing charging method with a watch that costs at least 5 times more. This cable anyway seems to be better than what Garmin does.

Woah, I wasn't expecting that low of a price for a >week battery life.
My closest comparison was going to be the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar. Currently 2 week battery life. It wears and feels like a G-Shock, only with the added functionality of a smart watch.

I bought it due to this video and a weird mood. It'll take a month to arrive.
    EDIT
It arrived. I expected it to have "dynamic video", like it's info page says, but there's nothing video related. There isn't even a slideshow, or animated gif option. This is what i bought the watch for specifically.

I don't use but the heart rate sensor and sleep tracking on my Galaxy watch. I don't like the 1.5 to 2 day battery life though I wish it was longer. Using it with a Motorola razr. I just want to know when I get a text or call. Water proof is good too. Other than that battery life is important. Don't need to do much else.

For 70$, there isn’t really a complaint against it. But then during a lot of common sales, the Apple Watch and the android crowd (Pixel, Galaxy and so on) scrape the low 150s, definitely below 200 so it’s a 50/50. The established ones for better or for worse have a much more polished package overall with hardware and software.

If you want a smartwatch with long battery and great activity tracking, your 140 euro galaxy watch won't do. Garmin watches can cost much more and are worth the money. If you want a watch that sends you notifications and shows time, you can go a lot cheaper than 140.

Scrapped wearing a watch around 1999 when my phone clock could last more than a day. A watch feels spurious in 2024. Maybe when we finally settle on one device that does everything (about 30-50 years because we need to abolish the competitive market first) it’ll all be great. Until then I’ll use my phone.

  • @XLessThanZ

Hopefully the price doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the watch. The CMFWP2 is very simple, but I don't need much in a watch. I hope you use the watch for some months then do a FOLLOW UP REVIEW. I also hope there's a cover for the face similar to my Fitbit Charge 5. The face of my watch tends to get grinded off when I go indoor bouldering. My first Charge 4 didn't even last 6 months. Great review...very practical 👍🏽

Short answer: Because the bigger brands all "compete" with each other, which means they only care about being competitive with the price and features that the others offer. This allows them all to rip us off, no matter who we choose.
    Shorter answer: Because greed.

I don't understand a product like this or why it exists. I understand it's meant to be "budget" orientated, but $70 is still ALOT for many people for a watch with a very outdated experience. At that point, why would you not just get an older (not too old) version of a flagship watch for the same if not a very little bit more? I daily drive a Galaxy Watch 4 Active that I bought for $80 and it serves me very well and has FLAGSHIP level features
