Mercedes EQE: Let’s be honest about this.

  • The make or break car is #MercedesBenz’s bid to conquer the #Electriccar world?! Based on the same EVA2 platform as the EQS, the #EQE is the mid level super luxury business sedan that borrows more than you’d believe from the EQS: like the self opening comfort doors, soft closing doors, the exact same hyperscreen interior, rear wheel steering, and much more!
    The first model is this EQE 350, which is a rear wheel drive only model. It has a 90kWh battery with a staggering 660KM range. EQE charges 250KM in just 15 mins, all this despite having a smaller battery.
    Great aerodynamics contributes to this too thanks to the one bow design and front cab shape, close to the world record holding EQS, with a 0.22CD value.
    The EQE 350 provides 288BHP, a 0-60 of 5.6 seconds and Torque of 550NM. There will be a 4matic version to come, which will bring in another electric motor to the front with more power: over 500 BHP, and a quicker 0-60 of around 4 seconds!
    Will there come an EQE AMG? I’d bet on it, check out video on the EQS 53 AMG to see what that might be like: I’ve rendered the EQE 53 for you in the video anyway!
    I’ll of course compare the car to EQS directly, EQE is 90mm shorter. But about the same size as the E Class/CLS! And we will look at both the Electric Art and out AMG line exterior.
    Interior is amazing, 90mm more legroom than E Class which is huge, and a benefit of the cab forward Design. The car has OTA updates - like sound experience which I’ll show you the 3 sounds for the EQE. It also gets digital light like EQS, and even driving modes for young drivers. The Hyperscreen is the same size as EQS, and is optional vs two sizes of Vertical screen like S-Class.

    Beautiful car. Flowing lines with classic beauty. My favorite car of all time is the original Bentrley type R from the 1950’s. This runs it close in looks. What would make it even more beautiful would be a push of the front axle further forward with a smaller front overhang. Technically it would probably be good, and it would make the cab forward look slightly less forward. For an even better look.

    • @timonxDlol
      @timonxDlol 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      The issue is not that EVs look different, but that they look super forced electric. Almost all of them are super weirdly designed. Like they scream electric car. The only one who gets it right is porsche with the taycan. It doesn‘t look like any regular porsche, but also has no forced ev shape. Its just a beautiful car.
      What Mercedes did here was choosing functionality over design. This leads to the one bow design for aerodynamics and a very short hood to provide more passenger space at the same length and make use of the possibilities of EVs.
      And to be honest the EQE at least looks better than the EQS even if they almost look the same. Im not sure why, but the proportions and front look better.

    I gotta say i was really disappointed with the design decisions made in the latest ICE models (E-Class, S-Class), but seeing the EQS and EQE i think they're doing a lot of things right. Love the way they went for an organic, not really sharp design but still managed to make it look futuristic and elegant at the same time. I think one can clearly tell they've been focusing a lot more on the BEVs than ICE cars. It's a great evolution of their design IMO.

      The cab forward design allows the passenger volume to be larger than in other similar sized automobiles. Cab forward was used by Chrysler Corporation starting in 1992 to describe styling and engineering features that were similar to those seen on the AMC Pacer and the Lamborghini Portofino, which improved cornering and interior space. The passenger cabin was "pushed forward" so that the front wheel well directly abutted the leading edge of the front doors, and the windshield extended forward over the engine, while the rear wheels were shifted towards the back corners of the vehicle. Moving the wheels to the edges allowed designers to enlarge the interior while improving ride and cornering.

    My issue with the EQS (have not seen the EQE - it is not available in China where I live) is it look like a cab forward design and I immediately think Honda. I am in the market for a new electric car (I drive a Model S) and I feel the NIO ET7 (Luxury and fast 3.8 sec to 100 and 700 to 1000 km range and a tech tour de force) or the Porsche Taycan Sporty are the best replacements. Sure the merc badge is great but the styling feels like a Japanese car. Interior on the EQS is impressive.

    I drive an S63 AMG Coupe and am a little biased when it comes to Merc ICE vs Merc EQ (which is a great first effort btw)…BUT… this is NOT the question! The real question is Merc EQ vs Tesla? Why? Because Tesla today are valued more than the top 6 car makers combined, where some analysts predict in 5 years Tesla will the most valuable company on the planet worth more than Apple. This means markets already believe Tesla will outsell Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, BMW, VW, Toyota etc. If true this means the majority of you are going to buy a Tesla. So…will your first EV be a Merc (or any other European EV for that matter) or a Tesla? My vote…I will be getting one of the Europeans as for me Tesla design, quality, personalisation and drive is far from a finished product.

      Actually as of Oct 30th 2021, Tesla is now worth more than all the car companies in the world put together, not just the top 6. With a P/E ratio of 360, investors have decided that everyone else is going to go out of business. Which is absurd of course. Tesla has 0.1% in Japan, one of the top 10 markets, and will probably never be above 2% in Japan. And they won't do that well in Korea either. And in China, the domestic manufacturers will beat them soundly. So people are being way over-optimistic. Foreign countries always punish American winners; they don't like Americans for the most part, and will introduce what you call "non-tariff barriers" to prevent Tesla from gaining too much share.

      I'd love to as well, but to be honest I doubt it. It's a shame they made the bonnet short and leaning down, like in a cheap city car 10 years ago. Forcing new looks just for the sake of new is what most of companies in most sectors (not only automotive) do, because this makes everything older look obsolete. If then they went back to "older" desings, people wouldn't want to buy it, because it would look "old" and they want the "new" thing

      It has the proportions it does to get more interior space out of less exterior space. You just don't need the huge long engine bay if you're not sticking an inline 6 or V12 in there, etc. The car's shorter than an E, with more cabin space (except for rear headroom, which there's unfortunately less of).
      The entire point of most Mercedes cars, particularly the E and S, is to be nice on the inside anyway. Hell, look at the W210, that was UGLY. Nothing like the W124 before it or W211 after it (which took the same concept, but made it look better). But even the W210 was a very nice car to drive and be inside of. The entire point of a Mercedes. It's a car for the person who doesn't need to chase clout by flashing off their car and instead wants to enjoy the comfort.
      They do have models for people who care about the outwards expression more. You have the G and the GLS if you want something that looks big, mean and expensive. There's the AMG GT which looks fast, etc. There will undoubtedly also be similar cars in the EQ range, because they do want to keep those target audiences as well.

    To be completely honest, i feel like the over-all shape and design fits the sizing of the EQE much better than the EQS…. I’ve already been to a training program on the EQS and was a little off put by the shape and size. Just seemed a little awkward in person, where this E looks much more proportional.

    It looks like a 70-year-old designed it - as a future car from the 1980s. The design language says Mercedes is trying something “radical”. But, the reality is EVs been around for more than 13 years. Just because Mercedes is late to the game - don’t try to ‘look’ radical. There is nothing, not a single thing, radical about an EV anymore, rather an EV is the practical choice these days. The designers should understand the EV is not future but present. I actually think they know it already - except an old guy. On the other hand, the interior looks great - looks practical and pleasing.

    Just wondering hows the service for this car? Like a ICB car you'd change oil. But what about EV??

    • @sookoll23
      @sookoll23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pulled up a service schedule for a random EV I could find (Kona EV in this instance, but it doesn't matter). The only items that the service schedule says need to be replaced are cabin air filters, coolant and brake fluid. The last two aren't particularly frequent items either.
      The rest of it is just "inspect CV joint boots", "inspect brake lines and hoses", "inspect steering gear rack, linkage and boots". You get the gist. Overall service costs are pretty cheap compared to ICEs.

    For a car that weights over 2400 kgs...that is closer to a mini school bus weight rather than a car...I'd rather to make a pass.
    Of course, this is much better than any of the Tesla offerings (except raw performance figures).

    I don't get all of this negative comments about exterior. It's the most aerodynamic car in the marker, something that an EV car should strive to achieve. Yes, it's different from what we used, but it's still pleasant and a good-looking car. Not sexy as some aggressive coupe similar to Audi, but the goal of everyone should be aerodynamics and only the egg shape cars can achieve superior results

    • @matemayer4850
      @matemayer4850 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, that's the bottom line. If I can drive 500 miles with a single charge then I really don't care if the car looks like an egg from outside. When sitting inside driving it, I wouldn't see the exterior anyway. And the EQS/EQE is a pretty cozy car inside.

    • @Coconut3A
      @Coconut3A 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matemayer4850 not to mention the fact that the Mercedes just made an entrance in the ev world with an interior and exterior completely radical. Bold move and i support them in this choice. There is no car with such a futuristic interior, maybe not the most practical one, and there is no car more aerodynamic. Pretty nice results in my opinion
