The controller was described as being incredibly comfortable. The triggers with clicky bottoms. The c stick nipple was naughty! The buttons were all unique a d perfect for gaming!
The fact that halo combat evolved was released before I was born and I’ve still played hours upon hours of it on the original Xbox is fascinating to me. Some video games are just timeless.
A prime example of how somebody, somewhere will always be excited for any smash character. All those folks who demand “who wanted this character” and “nobody asked for them” in Smash Ultimate can zip it.

GBA - F-zero Maximum velocity, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Wario Land 4, Mario Advanced,... GCN - Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee,... I think it was a good year. Specially the hype for the new consoles. Every major nintendo franchise seemed well developed at that point and we were finally ready to see all these characters with the improved graphics

I still remember how pumped I was for this E3, slowly downloading videos on IGN over a 56k modem for each reveal. The Spaceworld Zelda video was so cool, but upon seeing what the GC looked like/no DVD player, my entire friend-base pretty much dipped out. Even though we were all 13-15 years old, kids in those days didn't want to look like they were playing with toy. Nintendo was getting the "kiddie" reputation after the N64, and people were hopeful GC would prove them wrong. Alas, it was not to be, and I was the only one of my friends who bought a GC. If GC at least launched with Smash, it might've sold more people, but for some reason Melee came out like a few weeks after launch. By then, many people spent their money on an Xbox & Halo or a PS2.
The reveal of Super Smash Brothers Melee will never fail to give me goosebumps. Everytime I come across it I envision the hundreds of hours My brother and friends put into that game and I am quickly transported back to that era. There will never be as big of a leap in quality audiowise and visually, as there was casting aside Smash Brothers for the N64 and starting up Melee on the gamecube for the first time. Truly euphoric. 👌
This is the E3 I have waited for since the beginning of time. I have trekked the forests of Zimbabwe, scoured the fires of Mordor and travelled to the top of Mount Everest in the meantime. It was worth it.
i've been clearing out my giant gaming backlog, and i recently started prioritizing playing all the older games (recently 100%/completed games like morrowind, the first witcher game, fallout 1/2/tactics, and currently working on 100%ing gta 3 rn) so to be able to see this stuff is just awesome.

I remember playing Jak and Daxter,it was my favorite game. Especially the first one,the world is amazing,colorful. Still can't believe Jak and Daxter released one week before I was born.
I miss 2001. I was still an optimistic kid excited about every new game and piece of tech I saw. Unlike now, where I just have this constant feeling of being so tired with everything.
I was there. It was my 2nd E3, as an editor at Game Informer. Back then, E3 was much more a trade show than a media showcase. I did watch the MGS2 trailer on the show floor a handful of times. It was a must-see! And keep in mind OG Xbox was the only system with a hard drive, which accounted for some of the cost.
While Wrath of Cortex was disappointing, the game was very hyped up because all the Crash PS1 games were classics so people had good faith in this one. Plus, it was originally going to be an exclusive before Universal told Mark Cerny to piss off.
GameCube is such a weird console, on one hand it was AMAZING with the game quality and on the other Nintendo just made a lot of weird decisions with it.

While Wrath of Cortex was disappointing, the game was very hyped up because all the Crash PS1 games were classics so people had good faith in this one. Plus, it was originally going to be an exclusive before Universal told Mark Cerny to piss off.

GameCube is such a weird console, on one hand it was AMAZING with the game quality and on the other Nintendo just made a lot of weird decisions with it.
