I personally get why a lot of companies didn't go. I mean if you think about it the need for E3 has become less and less because companies can now have their own Livestream to show of their games any time of the year and it works. They send versions of their games out to big names who'll play them and spread the word to those who watch them.

I think scott has the reaction everyone had when they revealed metroid dread. It was in development hell longer than duke nukem 3D and it was something we've been waiting for since zero mission in 2004. We've been waiting for a new 2d metroid since 2002. And plus, I reacted similarly. I was shocked to see metroid dread was being released.

I think this year's E3 is where we *actually* saw the impact of the pandemic. All the stuff shown at last year's E3 was probably already done with most of the things shown by march when the pandemic really hit the west. This year we saw all the stuff that started development shortly before or during the pandemic, so the showcases were all around rather weak, understandably.

Yeah I probably freaked out more about when they revealed it was Metroid Dread then I was when they began showing off the game
Personally I played the newest Metroid on 3DS and loved it so I'm excited for Dread, rest of Nintendos showcase was Chernobyl levels of trash.
No excitement reaches the pure hype I felt when I saw the screen say "Metroid 5." The fact that they called it Dread is just the cherry on top.

Yeah I gotta agree with Scott on that last statement. E3 is the only time of year where I give a piss about anything during the summer. Yeah, companies can do thier own style directs whenever. But it really takes the fun and comradery out of everything. I used to love watching E3 with friends, even the online ones. But when companies have random showcases whenever during the year, we never talk much about...makes being a gamer lonely...

To see gaming journalism at its most obscured. And for initial hype to last in our memory banks. For instance, I remember watching E3 with my friends when they announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake for the first time. Sure, in hindsight going hysterical over seeing Barret and Clouds backs seems silly. But its this same exact memories that me and my friends will cherish with one another forever.

June is the only time me, my friends and gaming industries stop what we are doing and come together, for better or for worst. Who cares whether they show you a game you will like or not. Its the mediocre experience we came to see. To go in with no expectation and quite possibly leave the same is still fun around this time of year. Even if every game looked stupid and I wouldn't buy it, I still enjoyed watching the press conferences with people. You just don't get the same enjoyment when its a idk, a state of play in September or something.

That “hey all Scott here” was the most calmest “hey all Scott here” I’ve ever heard.
I personally hate those presentations that are like 5 minutes of talking with developers that say "The whole team worked very hard in this" or "We're very excited to show you this game" and then they show you a 1 minute CGI trailer of a game that doesn't look very great.
