Dude scalpers are VILE. I remember back when it was near impossible to find an OG Switch in stores, I was hunting around town for one (to no avail, basically every retailer was cleared out) I actually had an employee at a particular GameStop I checked tell me their store was out of stock, but then offer to sell me one of his own scalped Switches *while he was on the clock.* As desperate as I was to get one, I still declined out of principle. (thankfully I was able to track one down later at the local Toys R Us, which was also their last one in stock)
When I went to buy my first Switch I couldn't buy one because they were all out, I had to get a Lite. Even though I actually wanted to try the Switch, it still felt restrictive. But I'm glad I got the Lite because it matches my lifestyle perfect and I already bought 2 more Lites. Can't wait for Switch 2

The best bet these days for finding rare stuff dirt cheap are those labyrinthine second hand stores. The kind that have so much stuff that's been sitting around for years, it would take a lifetime to price check it all. If your town has one, hit it up!
The video on gaming collecting is extremely cute in a naive way, made definitely before Covid so the scene was nowhere nearly as broken or inaccessible as now. Still lots of advice in it I agree strongly with so can't be to harsh on it. Very much appreciate the view that games are meant to be enjoyed and played, I've got an insane amount of games in my collection and perhaps only a handful I never had a desire to play eventually. Also the very early view of gaming grading as something other than a scam really takes me back, that along with stuff like Chibi Robo not costing well into the triple digits.

I had a friend in grade school who would always introduce me to something new and cool and interesting, from Devil May Cry to Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and more obscure titles like Dark Chronicle and Shadow Hearts... and all of those game I own now. I wanted to own them because they were quality titles that grabbed me back then but I didn't have the resources to get myself. Now that I have them, as well as many other great PS2 titles from my childhood, I have all the games I REALLY want in my collection. So like Scott says here, everything else I buy these days, is just overflow. I may watch a video on youtube saying "10 hidden gems on PS2 you NEED to check out" and one of them may interest me so I go and buy it. And while it's always a great thing to expand your horizons and discover something new that may become your new favorite game, it is still overflow. It's a nother game to the pile that I'll likely never get around to actually play. I mean whenever I'm at retro/nerd/flea markets, it is incredibly rare for me to find something I A. don't already own, B. have been looking for for my collection. And I think that of all is the clearest indicator that while my collection can grow forever, I kinda already have everything I REALLY TRULY want.

I'm a big fan of the advice to just go and buy the console of the games you find interesting and buy 3 games. Play those games for a while without collecting, just as you would if it was the console of the time. Then decide if you want more or not. Then buy each one you want to play next as you play them. Forget about collecting to completion. Just play. Basically I favor being a gamer vs a collector. But If you want to be a collector I find it totally cool. Go ahead, because you all will hopefully take care of the games better than if there wasn't a market and all the games ended up in a dump somewhere. So have at it! enjoy yourself. sell it to me later.
I buy loose cartridge games and then buy reprint labels, manuals, and boxes 🤣. You’d think I have mint copies but only the cartridge is real. I have $250 “CIB” games for $30 lol. I don’t ever intend on selling and I’m definitely not paying collectors prices for the whole package

Charging Stand is literally one of the most necessary things to bring for flights imo. It sits perfectly on the tray, and at the airport it's way more comfortable for layovers on those tall bar stool chairs - while letting you stay charged the whole time.
Fun fact. I won one of those Club Nintendo 3DS's, the Red and Blue mario one to be exact. It was the best thing I ever had from Nintendo until I sold it to get a Nintendo 3DS XL and it was worth so much I could buy a few games with it too!

Im a big advocate for original Xbox collecting, i love playing Morrowind or Fable with the original controller, loading times & framerates. And the Xbox 360 for the guitar hero games, which ive almost got all copies: GH3, GH W.O.R, GH Metallica (with edition exclusive controller), GH Beatles, GH Aerosmith etc. Im on my way to getting a Logitech 360 GH controller too. But the xbox consoles were always a big part of my childhood and despite not being the most desirable to most, these games mean the world to me

I remember super mario all stars being 5 bucks in the early 2000s. By 2015 every common game had doubled or more in price. Now its insane. I have a decent snes, genesis, and ps1 collectuon along with consoles. Also have a TurboGrafx 16 mini. Selling them all
I wonder of my case is typical: I am old enough to statistically have experienced the genesis sonic titles on an actual genesis (I'm going on 39 this year) but my parents cheaped out and I basically skipped the whole 16-bit era straight to the 32-bit era with a Sega Saturn, so most of my experience with Sonic was through the Sonic Jam collection. such fun memories, I loved that 3D world mini hub for the archival content so much. too bad Sega didn't try to make a full sonic 3D game on SS like this mini hub. it'd have sucked, of course, but I think it would've been cool to look back to

52:53 hey mr scott i havent seen you really do much disassembly but just so you know, if you get a donor 360 controller(preferably a 3rd party one) you can take its thumbsticks out, and replace them, its probably the easiest repair to do its 5 standard phillips screws and youre basically done
