Jimmyyyyyy - I was S40 product manager during the BTCC period - awesome times - boy did we celebrate when Rydell won the championship - and I actually got to drive one on a press day at Donington - great times…..
@@AndorRadnai This week I had the light switch in my hands as it broke off lol and she wouldn't start today neither. Going to give the old girl a thorough makeover in 2025!
Derek Warwick once took me for a ride around a car park at the Devon county show in his 1998 BTCC Vectra because my dad was working on the National Deposit Friendly Society (financial services) stand and they kept the Vauxhall stand furnished with tea and coffee after their generator went down. The car was on display and when it came time to pack up at the end of the weekend they asked if there was anything they could do to say thank you and my dad asked if there was any chance I could sit in the car for a few pictures because I was a huge fan of touring cars, they said to leave it with them and to meet them in the car park when they'd be loading the car back onto the transporter. There's me expecting to maybe get a closer look at the inside of the car when they bolted in a spare seat, gave me a pair of earmuffs to wear and strapped me in before Warwick hopped in and blasted the car around the car park (I don't know if he got out of first gear but he slalomed around some lamp posts and smoked the tyres a bit). I also got a signed poster and a few other bits of merch which I've still got somewhere. Super cool memory of my semi recently departed dad
Was fortunate enough to meet both Alain and his 97 championship car at Brands Hatch last year - happy to report Alain is an awesome person IRL, seemed genuinely touched so many people wanted his time all these years later.
This brings back memories of playing TOCA Race Driver on the PS2 with my older brothers. Those were the days man. I even remember watching them playing TOCA Touring Cars on the PS1, dang.
I miss Toca games so much. Those games really made you feel like you were climbing up the ranks, with quite good story. TOCA Race Driver 2 made me fell in love with BTCC and old DTM cars, although I mostly watched my dad play it on keyboard since the best I could do back then was sending 68' Mustang down the Corkscrew :D Now the roles have changed, and I sometimes invite my dad to do some laps on my rig.
Don't forget that what was also a massive factor in making 90s BTCC so good was Murray Walker - the YOLO full send elbows out racing commentated by THE. MOST. EXCITABLE. MAN. ON. EARTH!
@@JasonCliftJones The way he delivered that right after Cleland raised his "first" finger will forever be legendary. It was instantly and precise, and I still smile every time I see the clip :D
I quite liked Charlie Cox and John Watson on commentary too. I had the 1999 and the 2000 BTCC season reviews on VHS as a kid and the commentary between the two was hilarious! 😂
Used to watch these at Donington Park, support Kelvin Burt (local lad). Got the pleasure of Frank Biela teaching me on iracing how to race the R8, watched him in his A4 when I was a kid. Love the touring cars. What a throw back. Thanks Jimmer.
The way the AI is bumping and nudging each other and you down the straight is classic BTCC racing, especially if John Cleland or Derek Warwick were involved! You were driving like Roberto Ravaglia did every time he saw a Mondeo!
One of my favourite videos from the back catalogue of this channel were the old Touring Car RaceRoom lobbies online - I'd kill for something like that when this launches. I can't quite believe we are seeing first party Super Touring content in 2024, what a time to be a sim racer.
I love how Jimmy doesn't use any HUD, uses the shifter and does everything as naturally as possible. All this while explaining why this is so exciting to someone that might not understand why it's so. Thank you, Jimmy, for the education.
Super Tourers were some.of the best racers and it sometimes makes GT racing look tame, having missed out on watching them, the highlights on here were mental
Watching BTCC growing up gave me a lifelong love of fast estate cars and was a major factor behind me buying a C63, and my current XF (okay, fast-ish then). Those 850 boxes…so cool.
June 1998, Donnington BTCC- 12 year old me was taken by my dad in a corporate box with a his work. Nigel Mansell took part in the Mondeo and we witnessed one of the best races in British history. From 19th to 1st before his tyres went off on a drying track. As a massive F1 fan, this was something of a dream for me. I was in awe, everybody was! I think i need to try this out myself, looks superb! Keep up the good work Jimmer!!
This is why i love Volvo's and own 2. Just the 5 cilinder engines and my whole youth was about going to circuits in belgium looking at 240's, 850's,...i never tought i would own one let alone love them. Never going back to another brand 💪🇸🇪
My dad bought the road car S40 back in 96 when it was released new. I started following STW and BTCC races the year before and was super thrilled when TWR switched from the old 850's to the brand new S40's. First year was a lot of learning for Burt and Rydell but the years following went better and better until in 98 Rydell won the championship in the S40! It was a fantastic time and i still remember those action packed races in the BTCC, best racing i have EVER seen in my life! And not ot forget Toca Touring Car Championship on the PS1 which featured every car from the 97 season and Tiff Needell as commentator. They had every track that the BTCC had raced in 97 in the game it was just marvellous, i love this game until this day because i had my toughest but most gratifying races in this game! No race series and no race game has ever been able to recreate the thrill and excitement ii felt these few years.......
I love this era the most visually. These weren't "sports cars" or super high trim level editions, or homologation specials, they were basic mom and pop sedans/wagons, with no widened body kits and over complicated aero, so the silhouette of the cars still looked 95% like the production models, turned into these angry, screaming race cars. Touring cars should be about the every day commuter cars having a chance to shine, the way they were meant to look.
Rydell, Menu, Plato, Reid, Thompson, Cleland, Warwick, Muller, Kox........... my childhood was watching back video tapes the old man recorded over and over. Greatest national racing series hands down
The Donington Historic Festival has a race with super tourers featuring. I went before COVID and remember John Cleland in his original Vectra won after reeling in a fast starting Abbie Eaton in a Holden Commodore. It's a great event and is on in May '25
Hands down to this day my favourite category of touring cars. Hours spent playing TOCA back in the day, mods on race07 and more recently AC. I can’t wait for this to release. I also used to rinse the season reviews videos over and over and over. For me it was 1996. I just fell in love with the Schnitzer BMWs. Snetterton 96 is possibly my favourite race from the era.
"SimRacing is not just sweating out to gain a tenth on a two minute lap..it's immerse and enjoy" You almost made me cry, I wish there would be more SimRacers like you Jimmy. And also for the closure "there's much more than GT3s and GT4s just give them a chance"..really you're inspiring and I hope a lot of SimRacers would be inspired by you

Mid '90s BTCC was the best racing series I've ever seen. Plato, Menu, Warwick et al wheel to wheel balls to the wall racing. The sound track of the engines and the enthused commentary of the legend Murray Walker = EPIC!!!
I loved the old school BTCC back in the 90's the OG British Touring car championship.... BUT I still rate my Aussie Bathurst from back in the day above that. Both were great series ngl
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Thompson in the Accords was the reason for me buying Hondas back in those days and a couple months ago I just picked up a CL9 Accord Euro for the nostalgia. ;)
Absolutely bringing the amazing nostalgia vibes back love it nice one jimmer, super touring was amazing as got into btcc in 1999 and now I'm now a btcc fan of 25 years
Saw that these were coming the other day and it's a instant pickup for me, hopefully more sims will add series like supertourers, group c, jtcc, jgtc and classic V8 Supercars too
The S40 brings back so many memories from my childhood, i watched the BTCC and STCC races on the tv and in 1999 my dad gave me a Kyosho pure ten 1:10 Richard Rydell S40 rc car for my birthday present. It was the car with the BTCC 1997 livery. 10 years later i was fortuned enough to be lead race mechanic on Seat Leon's S2000 in the STCC and In 2011 and 2012 we raced Richard in hes Chevy Cruize and managed to finish ahead of him a few times. Im blessed to have been abled to race against my childhood hero and to have been part of the era with NA engines. Hearing the E90s 6 cyl, C30's 5 cyl and all the other 4 cyls revving down the track is a blessing.
I'm never sure what reach these things had outside the UK, but it's difficult to overestimate just how massive BTCC was in this era. Huge crowds, huge manufacturer support and huge characters in the drivers seats. Just the absolute tits.
Jimmy in the 90ties i had to drive a 850 a customer complained it cut out at at 230 kph in saudi at 50 ambient. first time to test at that speed and because of the fault shit my pants. got the same passion as u awesome video cant wait for this to launch lol. still remember to this day avid sim racer at 63 lol
Hyped: I am THIS! The missing cars are conspicuous by their absences, but it still looks like a legit pack, and hopefully some of those cars can be added in the future.
Some of my best memories of the 90’s is watching mega OP Renault Lagunas with Alain Menu, Frank Biela, Emmanuelle Pirro in the A4’s, Rickard Rydell in the Volvo, Jason Plato in the Mondeo… man what memories!!!!
I did the sequential shifter ruler thing at school too! 😂 BTCC is the best series out there, was then, is now, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on. Love WEC, Supercars, NASCAR etc. but the BTCC gives me a feeling nothing else can!
That absolute send into Goddards on the final lap to STEAL that final point was PURE BTCC. Great video, great update. Just needs the Mondeo, the Vectra, the Primera and the Laguna!
I had a GTR Evolution mod with a full BTCC grid from the mid to late 90’s. So good you even got used to trailing the throttle to stop the rear stepping out when going deep into a corner while not on either brake or throttle.
Me too Jimmy The DTM 95 was a childhood dream, now Btcc too!!! I just hope they can secure all models, liveries and drivers to make up full authentic grids, DTM was only 3 car models. Let's hope 🙏
My first ever racing game was Toca 2, while I was a bit late to appreciate this field of racing at the time I still have great nostalgia for the cars, and having since watched a lot of these BTCC seasons it really was a fantastic era of racing, engaging and edge-of-your-seat in a way few classes are today
Have also been waiting years for this to come to raceroom. As you, I’m a huge super touring fan. But as a swede, I watched STCC instead. So this is like a dream with the swedish tracks in raceroom. The a4 quattro was allowed all the way to the end of super tourers here in sweden, in 2002, winning the championship three times. But I always liked the s40 the best. But it never won STCC. In my simracing room I have a wall with super touring posters and toy models of different models. Also a signed picture from Jan ”Flash” Nilsson, who has a livery on the s40 in the game. Can’t wait for december 10th!
The weaker classes of cars were always the shit for me. Sure, the supercars that are the fastest and bestest are fun in their own way, but when your car can kinda just about do the job you have to squeeze out every little drop of skill out of yourself to be on top. I'm more of a rally fan and S1600 or F2 Kit Cars are some of my favourite classes. They're not the slowest cars, but also they're not very fast overall, they're not the most nimble cars (though S1600 can be pretty nice with a good setup), they just kind of do everything just fine, nothing more, nothing less, and I love them for it.
I was about to comment exactly this. There's just something about pushing a production chassis to its absolute limits while negotiating a TON of regulations. Case in point: the Xsara that was faster than every other WRC car.
oh mate. i can tell you absolutely enjoyed it, coz i know i did. I think your next live stream, needs to be super tourers and just have am absolute blast with it. So many memories of watching super tourers back in the day. Always loved driving for volvo in toca 2.
We need more videos like this, 90's racing was one of a kind🔥

I'd love to have one of the Peugeots in it. Be it the 405 or the 406, so that I can have the "track counterpart" to the awesome 306 Maxi. Supertourings and Kit Cars were really something else in the 90s. BTW, we probably all did the sequential gear ruler at school 🤣.
Going for the full Jason Plato on some of those moves ;P Super Tourers were just the best, needs to come back. Peak "what if a Formula 1 team modded grandads runabout"
It was the late 90’s early 2000’s era and the release of TOCA on PS1 that gave me the love for the BTCC. I also had a Murray Walker VHS tape called Murray’s motorsport mayhem and there were loads of touring car clips on there, I watched that tape thousands of times. I think my favourite car was the Green Laguna with the Nescafé branding that Plato drove. Got very lucky to see the car in the flesh on a training day when I worked for Renault. Such a great era of racing
Man, seeing really cool stuff like this just makes me wish 90's/00's V8 Supercars would get some more love. The vibe potential of facing down the green eyed monster in an HRT Commodore is insane. Also, that S40 has 1 more gear than my IRL S40, feelsbad.

I used to love watching the old Cavaliers and BMW E36 coupes in BTCC back in the day, John Cleland vs Steve Soper 🙂 rubbing was definitely racing back then lol. Great vid as always and cant wait to give this pack a go.
Love this era of racing. It's just a shame the CART-sanctioned series here in North America got a late start and went bust after just two seasons (at least we got the PacWest Dodge Stratuseseses out of it...insert Will Ferrell meme). I do need to issue a correction: The E36 3 Series was not the only rear-drive car built to Supertouring specs. The JTCC had, at various points, X100 Chasers, an R33 Skyline sedan, and a GF8 Impreza wagon with the front diff removed.
I remember going to see a touring car sunday at Brands Hatch years ago.. have such good memories of that and the choas in some of the support races! We saw a Renault Clip barrel roll down the home straight lol, Amazing games from Codemasters years ago!
It's such a shame that "lower class" and older race vehicles are so neglected these days. I played a Toca demo back on my High School computer with these cars, and I really liked them. It's also where I first learned of the Mondeo, though I think it was also in GT2.
I went to donington earlier in the year on the weekend you raced minty. So frustrating most of them breaking on the formation lap and then the last 2 taking each other out at the old hairpin..
Having learned to drive in 1976 on Night Driver . And growing up in the 80's Atari's Hard Drivin' was about as close as I could get before an actual car. I did have a gokart for a few years in my early teens. Ran 10% methanol in my Tecumseh engine. Layed back seat and a silver boue and black glittered motorcycle helmet.. Those surely were the days. I'm new to sim racing in my 50's. Can't wait to get off a controller and get a wheel.
I get similar enjoyment with my super budget setup; psvr1, motion steering with the controller with analogue trigger accelerator and brake, playing Drive Club VR, beanbag for a bucket seat, and I have more fun with the slower cars than the super cars. First time firing it up they chuck you into a BAC Mono race and the sensation of coming down the hill at full speed in VR was too much I had to pull up 🤣
I had the 1998-99 on VHS when growing up in England. Im similar age to yiu, eas lucky to been able to go to the 1999 BTCC race where Yvan Muller won his first race for Vauxhall with that 3 wide move on the first corner. Nothing will ever beat the Super touring, in fact i live in New Zealand and many of the BTCC and Australian super touring cars are racing in NZ.
2:20 Engine revs rising now getting ready, look at the flames being scattered out of the back leading car looks more like Thrust 2, not a BMW! But they're away and racing anyway!
Jimmyyyyyy - I was S40 product manager during the BTCC period - awesome times - boy did we celebrate when Rydell won the championship - and I actually got to drive one on a press day at Donington - great times…..
Mine is 25 years old now! Not the BTCC variant though. I'm planning to keep and cherish it screw new cars :D
Amazing to have you as a viewer mate!
@@misterdog7 Thank you for keeping the smooth brick alive!
Sincerely, another brick enthusiast. ^^
@@AndorRadnai This week I had the light switch in my hands as it broke off lol and she wouldn't start today neither. Going to give the old girl a thorough makeover in 2025!
@@misterdog7 I have a T4 as hobby, love the car (is from 1996)
Derek Warwick once took me for a ride around a car park at the Devon county show in his 1998 BTCC Vectra because my dad was working on the National Deposit Friendly Society (financial services) stand and they kept the Vauxhall stand furnished with tea and coffee after their generator went down.
That is Epic man!
Great story!
That's rad
Dude!!!! That is a frickin memory that!!! Super cool, nostalgia

Memories of Toca Touring car and supporting Alain Menu. Awesome.
toca was my first racing game :D
Was fortunate enough to meet both Alain and his 97 championship car at Brands Hatch last year - happy to report Alain is an awesome person IRL, seemed genuinely touched so many people wanted his time all these years later.
Toca was my first introduction to racing games. So much memories
Toca was an amazing game
i loved toca touring car game
This brings back memories of playing TOCA Race Driver on the PS2 with my older brothers. Those were the days man. I even remember watching them playing TOCA Touring Cars on the PS1, dang.
I miss Toca games so much. Those games really made you feel like you were climbing up the ranks, with quite good story.
TOCA Race Driver 2 made me fell in love with BTCC and old DTM cars, although I mostly watched my dad play it on keyboard since the best I could do back then was sending 68' Mustang down the Corkscrew :D
Now the roles have changed, and I sometimes invite my dad to do some laps on my rig.
Don't forget that what was also a massive factor in making 90s BTCC so good was Murray Walker - the YOLO full send elbows out racing commentated by THE. MOST. EXCITABLE. MAN. ON. EARTH!
"I'm going for first! says John Cleland..." XD
@@HammerHeart3229Charlie Cox and watty were great, brings back some good memories.
You were driving like
Roberto Ravaglia did every time he saw a Mondeo!
1:23 Sabine Schmitz, she'll still be missed~ ❤
"Queen of the nurburgring" That lady could drive.
Yeah I do miss her. I still watch that almost sub 10min lap in the white transit she did to embarrass Clarkson from time to time.
I do miss her, but think of her Everytime turning onto the ring in sim. Fitting legacy
Came to say this. What a lady...
RIP queen ❤❤
One of my favourite videos from the back catalogue of this channel were the old Touring Car RaceRoom lobbies online - I'd kill for something like that when this launches.
I can't quite believe we are seeing first party Super Touring content in 2024, what a time to be a sim racer.
raceroom does most of the good stuff, and while it doesnt have the playerbase as iRacing or AC its one hell of a game
6:41 The headlight flash from the AI S40 after Jimmer muscled his way past 😂
Race 07 (same people who made raceroom) had an expansion that had the S40 and the 850 Estate BTCC car in them. they were good fun to drive
Watching BTCC growing up gave me a lifelong love of fast estate cars and was a major factor behind me buying a C63, and my current XF (okay, fast-ish then). Those 850 boxes…so cool.
Yep, that 850 was mint.
This feels like a return to your roots Jimmy. Love it.
Mushroom Cup vibes always when I see super tourers. Fun stuff!
The closer to production a series is, the more I enjoy it. The relatability of your Dad having a street version of a racing car is unbeatable.
I've got an S40 seat on my sim rig. Just an iconic car honestly. Love this video, I was grinning ear to ear watching you go round pushing for 10th
Rydell, Menu, Plato, Reid, Thompson, Cleland, Warwick, Muller, Kox........... my childhood was watching back video tapes the old man recorded over and over. Greatest national racing series hands down
I remember Matt Neal winning in his red Primera in...I wanna say 99? And the green and gold Peugeot that looked awesome but was kind of rubbish.
@durrell246 green gold Peugeot was 98 with Paul Radisich at the wheel
That’s our camera Derick that’ll be 2 grand please.
Murray walker commentary was as good as the racing
I hope that some kind soul super tourer owner sees this and offers you a drive at Super Touring Power at Brands Hatch next year Jimmer

The Donington Historic Festival has a race with super tourers featuring. I went before COVID and remember John Cleland in his original Vectra won after reeling in a fast starting Abbie Eaton in a Holden Commodore. It's a great event and is on in May '25
Super Touring era 94 to 99 🤤.. my childhood icons
Raceroom is that one dead not so dead game
it has quite active development. the community isnt as big as something like ac or acc but you can easily find servers full with people
They are planning some big updates for next year: Drifting, DX12 and LFM integration through the in game servers.
imo, it doesn't really help that someone like Jimmer "only" makes like 3 videos a year of the game..
And also for the closure "there's much more than GT3s and GT4s just give them a chance"..really you're inspiring and I hope a lot of SimRacers would be inspired by you
This brings back so many great memories from watching STCC, Swedish touring car championship growing up in this era. Looks fun!

The Screaming Gearbox of the HONDA 4th Gear upwards gave me instant goosebumps! I love the cars mate! :)
Yeah JIMMER should really try this one out too!!!
Mid '90s BTCC was the best racing series I've ever seen.
Plato, Menu, Warwick et al wheel to wheel balls to the wall racing.
The sound track of the engines and the enthused commentary of the legend Murray Walker = EPIC!!!
Just need the 850 Volvo Estate to near enough have the full set.
No where near full set yet. Where's the Vectras, Alfa 155s, Lagunas, Primeras and 406s!?
@@SelfMadeManiac And the Mondeo
Thanks!
Shame it doesn't have a lot of the big name brands from that era. Renault, Vauxhall, Nissan, Peugeot and Ford were critical to that period.
I did the sequential shifter ruler thing at school too! 😂
BTCC is the best series out there, was then, is now, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on.
This was amazing to watch and I agree, those cars produced some fantastic racing.
This is just Toca touring cars with better graphics & no death spins! Amazing! Great video Jimmer.
I had a GTR Evolution mod with a full BTCC grid from the mid to late 90’s. So good you even got used to trailing the throttle to stop the rear stepping out when going deep into a corner while not on either brake or throttle.
These are the videos that Jimmy does best, the ones he loves to drive
You vibing on things you love, man, is the best content :)
I love the enthusiasm, Jimmy. Keep ‘em coming!
Many memories of watching this after racing the 1/10th scale versions of these at my local club.
Absolutely epic
Me too Jimmy
The DTM 95 was a childhood dream, now Btcc too!!!
I just hope they can secure all models, liveries and drivers to make up full authentic grids, DTM was only 3 car models.
Let's hope 🙏
1:19 Sabine!!❤ i'm deffinitly driving that. The queen of the ring will forever be missed
My first ever racing game was Toca 2, while I was a bit late to appreciate this field of racing at the time I still have great nostalgia for the cars, and having since watched a lot of these BTCC seasons it really was a fantastic era of racing, engaging and edge-of-your-seat in a way few classes are today
Raceroom is such an underlooked gem. Had some of the best online races and they have SO MANY cars.
Love the editing in this, can tell you're excited with this update!
13:22 Sorry, brother, but that's ol' number 3 RIP Dale
I've flagged in VSCCA before. There is always a way to keep our favorite series alive.
Totally agree, especially the older days
F2 is literally the rally equivalent of supertouring. Best thing ever.
This brings back so many memories. My dad was a huge Volvo fannback then, and he even got me an RC Volvo S40 as a birthday present
The vibration you feel at 11 minutes mark, is the tires they get bumpy because of the wearing rubber patch from the wheel lock up
Going for the full Jason Plato on some of those moves ;P
Super Tourers were just the best, needs to come back.
9:00 reminds me so much of the Havoc series by Duke, must watch them again soon!
Man, seeing really cool stuff like this just makes me wish 90's/00's V8 Supercars would get some more love. The vibe potential of facing down the green eyed monster in an HRT Commodore is insane.
Also, that S40 has 1 more gear than my IRL S40, feelsbad.
British Touring cars are what i grew up watching so some nostalgia to this in a way

I used to love watching the old Cavaliers and BMW E36 coupes in BTCC back in the day, John Cleland vs Steve Soper 🙂 rubbing was definitely racing back then lol. Great vid as always and cant wait to give this pack a go.
90s BTCC is amazing especially with Murray Walker's commentary. I could happily watch old videos all day 😊
I love the RSS GT-N pack for this. It's GT3 with none of the electronics or aero. so much more fun
Aah, this throws me back to playing TOCA... thanks for the nostalgia trip Jimmy! ❤
Love this. Gives me that nostalgia for the old Toca Touring car games
I remember going to see a touring car sunday at Brands Hatch years ago.. have such good memories of that and the choas in some of the support races! We saw a Renault Clip barrel roll down the home straight lol, Amazing games from Codemasters years ago!
The nostalgia is crazy … used to play Toca 1 on my dads old IBM work laptop … then moved to Toca 2 on PS1 … great memories
This looks amazing! Love that Volvo sound! 😍
I had an R/C Mondeo touring car when I was a teenager. This is awesome.
The 90's BTCC is what got me into cars. The PS1 game was the start 😌
Played TOCA 1 & 2, went to see them race regularly. My favourite era.
The S40 is by far my favourite car, such an awesome piece of machinery.
Used to love watching reruns of the season that just past in the winter on speedvision here in the USA,,,,dtm too
Having learned to drive in 1976 on Night Driver .
TOCA 2Touring Cars - on PC around 99s was a life game changer for me.
This gave me OG Jimmy video vibes. Love it.
Absolutely loved the BTCC. The yellow and navy blue valvoline mondeo was my favourite livery of that time. Great times. All the best Jimmer 👍
2:20 Engine revs rising now getting ready, look at the flames being scattered out of the back leading car looks more like Thrust 2, not a BMW! But they're away and racing anyway!
Jimmer mate this is probably my favourite video of yours. Been around since the fidget spinner days. Good job, gg
seeing these super tourers is such a nostalgia trip wow.
9:13 aaah the move called a Max Verstappen.
You just love to see it!
I read your comment just as he verstappened the other volvo 😂
They finally did it. A race class that I always dreamed to play on
Seeing you love the S40 is so fun especially as i am planning on converting my 1996 s40 into the supertourer inspired car.
