Hi Jimmy! I am the Team Principal (and a driver) of Random Vandals Racing. iRacing did the operational and data review with us at Sebring earlier this year. It was great to work with the iRacing team, and we are very fortunate to have them add our livery as a factory iRacing option. I completely agree with you on the surreal aspect of having a car you race in real life now on the sim! Enjoy! Meanwhile, we head to Barber Motorsports Park tomorrow for the SRO weekend there. We will have three entries in GT4 America (AM/ProAM/Silver) and one in GT World Challenge America GT3 (PRO). All our cars are fitted with rear view cameras 😉.

I cannot remember exactly when but the iRacing Devs did update ABS a few seasons back so that it didn't impact lap time when you went into it compared to no ABS, which is why you probably didn't notice any time loss when pushing into that zone. However they did make it so that the tyres have more degradation when you go into ABS so I'm not sure how realistic that is.
@@quuub5089 How does ABS heat up the tire? Locking up creates a lot more heat (and a flat spot) from the skidding over the asphalt instead of rolling. You're right that locking up the brakes stops putting heat in the brakes itself, but locking up to avoid brake heat is silly.
@@SrApathy33 it is very silly and doesnt make sense in real life at all, thats why abs also works in irl. but it does in iracing and thats why you dont use abs
@@SrApathy33 technically, the tire operates best at an "optimal slip." So if the ABS is tuned for maximum deceleration, it means it's actually very slightly and constantly scrubbing the tires under braking, where a human would very rarely be able to consistently hit that optimal slip regime, and would be either braking heavily but NOT slipping, or locking them up. So there is some potential realism to ABS causing more tire heating than non-ABS. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that iRacing is doing the correct amount of heating, or that the performance degredation at the correct amount of heating is realistic. Just that... theoretically at least, it's not nonsense
Jimmer take in the fact that only a few years ago you were driving cars for the first time in real life that you have spent 100s of hours racing them in sim. But now you’re driving a car for the first time in the sim that you have spent 100s of hours of seat time in real life…. Absolutely mental and so fun to watch your journey over the years

As someone who races a completely different style or discipline of racing, I race Late Model Stock Cars IRL & I have to say they sound amazing almost spot on but they drive nothing like they do IRL. However I think it's due to the tire model mainly plays a huge part in that you typically feel really tight in those cars in sim and loose off corner exit due to running a low brake bias the sim not knowing the difference between corner entrance & corner exit. Its a trick many Oval drivers manipulate in fixed races to make the car faster. I have 100% club on iRacing however I generally avoid road because the cars feel like their skating around the track like their never really connecting rubber to pavement properly. I avoid some of the Oval stuff specifically ARCA & Gen 4 Cup for that same reason and as of recently the Street Stocks. Hopefully in 2025 we will get a better tire model and iRacing will revolutionize again making the sim more realistic moving closer to 2030 when I think a lot of gaming will be changing at a rapid rate. Anyways just my 2 cents to add more narrative to the subject because I am no content creator lol.. But I enjoyed your insight on something I never have driven and could learn a little bit about it through sim & through what you had to say, I always wonder what others who drive IRL think about their cars in sim vs reality.
