Plans of 8x12 Gable Shed: (COMING SOON)
I will walk you through the complete project of building a ramp for your storage shed. This specific shed (8'x 12') is 10"off the ground but this same process can be followed for sheds that are higher, lower, larger, or even smaller. I will also show you the easy way to cut the correct angle in the joists to ensure you don't have to do any math and also get the end result you are looking for with a solid ramp.

I will be building mine soon. Didn't know where to start! Now I know how to finish, too! Great video. Thanks!
I've watched several ramp videos and yours is head and shoulders above the others. Thanks. I also thought your videos on shelf building was great and built several from your tips.
Thanks, happy we were able to help and thanks so much for the feedback!
Yes the Home Depot list helped a lot. Used it to assist me buying everything, plus or minus a few things. Getting started on my ramp.
Thanks so much for the feedback.
Used your video to build my shed ramp today. Every aspect was fully covered and easy to follow. Mine came out as perfect as I wanted. Thanks for the video.
You bet, happy to help and thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for the tutorial! I’m a visual learner and this project was much easier with your help!
Awesome, best of luck on your project!
This is great!!!! Thank you for simplifying this process.
We are here to help 🙌
Take a look at how skateboard ramps are built. There is no need for all those cuts, and at the end a piece of metal sheet makes the entry smoother.
Thought was nicely demonstrated & details to build the ramp well. Thank you
Thanks!
I made my first ramp using a similar technique but you explained it much better. Going to refer to this to build the next ramp. Great instruction!
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
The material list is very helpful. Thanks for another great and well explained video!
Glad it was helpful!
Best video explaining the cuts in have seen. Great job and thanks!
Thanks for the feedback!
I just built the exact one from this video. Thank you it turned out great.
Awesome 🙌, thanks for the feedback.
AWESOME, LOVE THE INFO!!! I need to replace my current ramp and this is the info I needed . Thanks for sharing!!!
You bet!
Very well built and explained!
One of the few I have watched.
Understandable step-by-step
Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent plan and ideas! You explained everything very well. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for this! I need to build one for my shed. Now I know how to do it!
Great! Good luck with your build!🛠
Nice easy build for a shed. I’ll use this video for my shed that needs a ramp. Thanks 😊
You bet!
Great video. Excellent explanation of everything.
Thanks for the feedback 🙌
Thanks Bro! great video, I gotta replace my current ramp and this has pointed out some of the mistakes I made years ago on the current.
Best of luck on the project!
Dude awesome video and great explanation!
Thanks man, happy to help!
Great. More shed videos please.
You got it 🙌
Very nice, thank you!!
Thank you too!
Good Job!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Thanks, i was trying to figure out angel to cut your much easier
For sure 💯
Thanks I need to replace my ramp, which is 30 years old. When I originally did the ramp, I took a router and cut a groove in the shed plywood floor at the door. Screwed a Piece of Angle Steel, in the groove, so I wouldn’t start splintering and separating the plywood floor, from the wheels and tractor tires hitting it.
Really nice video. Thanks!
I have a slightly different scenario as my yard slops down under my ( quite old) shed (to the left as I stand looking at the door). I had the shed raised and leveled with blocks underneath when I moved here as it was sitting in dirt in places, but this then means the space from the bottom of the door to the ground is about 4 inches more on the left side of the door. Do I just mark & cut each of the support boards separately?
I was wondering if, instead of attaching a ledger board, if it would work to build a framework whose top runs level and it’s sloped on the bottom to create the level top when put in place on my yard? And then build 2 x 4” wings coming forward at the base to stabilize it? Or ???
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to attempt to try this on my own the only thing is that my shed was build on a concrete floor. This means that I do not have a wood floor. I would like to build this but would also like to include some type of lip purhaps metal that can rest on the concrete and attach it to the ramp it self. I dont think I want the ramp to be permanently attached to the shed concrete floor so It needs to be removable each time I need to use it for my riding mower or motorcycles.
Wonder if you could use a large piece of angle iron as you lip. Drill a few holes and attach it to the top edge of the ramp to hang on the concrete floor.
You might want to add some grip tape to the ramp. Wet angled wood can be slippery.
Not a bad idea 👍, thanks for the feedback!
Use a 2x6 for the ledger.
Drag a line 1.5” down from the top to guide placement of the ramp 2x4s.
This allows pairs of screws to support the whole ramp, instead of a single row of screws.
Inset a 2x6 at the heel of the ramp 2x4s.
Spreads the settling load of the ramp over far more surface area on the gravel.
Thanks for the feedback Keith 👍
Nice video. I have a 10x12 barn being delivered tomorrow. I will build a ramp as you have. Question, why use 2x4 decking instead of regular 5/4 decking?
Just for a bit more strength with the 2x4’s. Hope the delivery went well 👍
Fantastic plans. Thank you! I’ll be using this to replace a ramp that’s entirely rotted out in front of my shed.
Do you have any suggestions for areas that are really wet, or will the gravel/sealer combo be sufficient? We get shallow puddles at the back of our yard during hard or sustained rain
Thanks!!!! I recommend really working in the gravel in the areas.
I didn't see a video on that single solar oanel setup you have. Do you have one? Id love to see it
Yep, this one is the overall setup and then at the end of the video I will point you to all the individual videos that dive a bit deeper th-cam.com/video/DUdfh5gjhdg/w-d-xo.html
How did you determine how long the ramp should be? My shed doorway sits about 19 inches off of the ground. Just want to make sure I have enough clearance for a driving mower to get in and out of the shed without bottoming out.
I usually just eye ball it or just use a test 2x4 adjusting the length to get a feel.
Can you make can you make a video on the solar charging station you have in front of your shed?
Checkout @everydaysolar!... We will for sure make a specify solar projects for shed in the future.
Is Thompsons water seal available again in a spray can. I knew they stopped selling it awhile back.
They had it at my local HD in Illinois 👍
👍
Thank you. Why didn't you use pressure treated lumber?
Oh, sorry should have been more clear that was all pressure treated 👍
Ah! thank you. The color confused me. It looked untreated on the video. Thank you@@EverydayShed
Would this ramp hold a 1700 pound polaris slingshot? My opening is 80".
I think so, I would maybe put a few more structural lags holding the ramps to the shed but it should hold.
I built one last year using 4 landscape timbers on 16" centers with a piece of 5/8" plywood and coated it with motor oil...Less than $100
WOW, that is super beefy!
link give did not list of materials- do you know how to get it?
Thanks for the heads up. I think I found the error. Try this one and let me know if that works better. Thanks so much for the help. homedepot.sjv.io/3eWBjy
Is there a reason that you did not backfill the the front edge with the soil that you removed?
I would prefer to keep the soil off the pressure treated wood but if you would like to backfill you could without taking much of a hit in how long the ramp would last.
I think all of this should've stayed on the main channel
We have big plans for this channel and will be digging into many different aspects of building sheds in addition to numerous designs. That is why we split off the Shed-focused content into a separate channel. Either way, thanks for the support.
no need to do those long angle cuts on ends, simply burry the boards, which will create side to side stability, and the ends won't rot and break off so quickly since it's no longer a thin, feather edge. Also, lay down some weed barrier and rocks under the whole ramp and extending it on each side, along with some edging for ease of mowing.
Good ideas... Thanks for watching!
My name is Gragg Cain I have a storage building and I have a toro 34" zero turn I believe it is a 12 " rise it sits on a 5 1/2" concrete slab would you use a 60" ramp to get the lawnmower in the storage shed? thought about 2x4's for ledger brd. and 2x4's for decking. would that work. or what is your suggestion?
2x4's are pretty strong, i believe it will hold up just fine. let us know how it goes, i am curious myself.
You are a tall guy. You should have modified the above the door area so you can't hit your head.
This is shed is a HomeDepot Kit pre cut.
$money $
Let's go!
I would rather have a concrete ramp.
That would be solid.
Lame no close up of measurements 👎
I'll try to get some out next video.
Awesome video!
Thanks!
