      Yes, it is a little slick when it gets wet. I'm sure it will be the same with snow but not certain as It has not snowed yet.

    one thing I have learned put gravel under your ramp if it is 6 feet wide add concrete block under the center of the ramp half way down as it supports the ramp much better . Pressure treated wood is not as good as it used to be . Never cut your door also as driving rain and melting snow will get under the bottom cut of the door and ruin your floor . I also used flashing tape against wood to wood contact to keep rot from happening . I also added 4x4's to the sides to make a railing so if ther ramp s slippery when I walk up it ,I have something to grab onto . I also went under my prebuilt shed and added joist hangers to the joists . I want the shed foor supported as much as possible

      @@Tonyswoodshop thank you and believe me it can hold alot of weight . I took my gorrila cart up the ramp with 12 concrete blocks loaded in it because we got a sudden downpour . I used 2x12's for the top boards also . But on new shed I am only using deck boards for now .Hurrican tie downs on the roof trusses are almost done , buty those sudden storms last night cut me short of finishing them . 5 storms back to back after the first storm . The hail hit me while I was driving the mower and cart in the shed . Storm warning after storm warning on weather radio after that

  • @TechExplorer546
    @TechExplorer546 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Really nice. Did you use spacers between the deck boards? You must of measured precisely in order to not have to rip that last deck board.
    I’m about to replace mine that rotted after 7 years. I’m going to use 2x6 and attempt what you did. I’m just not good at cutting those angles on the side like you did and the outline of the deck boards.

    • @Tonyswoodshop
      @Tonyswoodshop 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s best to use a little space to allow for expansion and contraction. I did have to rip the last piece. 2x6 in reality is 1.5x5.5 you can measure how long you want and round to the nearest 5.5” the outline is 45 degree angles at the bottom. Make sure you ground contact treated lumber.

  • @Spta97Vids
    @Spta97Vids ปีที่แล้ว

    Great job and thanks for the vid. I plan to do something similar. A few questions for you: 1) Did you need to cut your doors or were they short enough to allow the ramp (mine need to be cut)? 2) I noticed you only screwed on the ends of the boards - any issues? 3) How is it holding up?

    • @Tonyswoodshop
      @Tonyswoodshop ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching. The doors fit inside so I did not have to trim them. If yours hang over the edge, you can trim them or just build just below it and have a little bump to go up into the shed. Screws only on the ends worked fine. The gap is not to big but any bigger I would probably put some in the middle. No need to put screws in every joist. I have not heard any complaints from the customer. Good luck with yours!

    It really looks nice….very nice. I’m ripping out our TimberTech deck, as we are having Goshen Stone patios installed. And the TimberTech product still has a use…and my current wood ramp to my shed is approaching 11 years old, and starting to soften. I’m just unsure why you felt the need to “picture frame” it. (Again, it does look nice, but seems overly problematic). And why did you overhang the left and right edge? And you didn’t use spacers….I guess there isn’t really a need, except to let the wood beneath ‘breathe’. Now you asked “will it last?” The “synthetic-wood” planks sure will. Frame? I’m guessing 10-12 years, depending on moisture in the ground. That red clay you dug…I’m assuming you are down south…..I’m in New England and I only wish I could dig ground that easy! And regarding that small trench to stabilize the ramp’s end, I thought, was a very nice touch. Overall, a nice looking item that is both useful and attractive. Bravo-Zulu, we’ll done.

    • @Tonyswoodshop
      @Tonyswoodshop ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your support! I picture framed it because the Trex has grooves on the bottom. Those grooves would be easily seen from the sides. I’m sure it would be fine all in the same direction but I think it looks better this way. I wish I didn’t do the overhang. It just adds a weak spot. I wouldn’t do that again.

    • @captaincoyote1792
      @captaincoyote1792 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tonyswoodshop You are correct--I had forgot about Trex having grooves on one side (it was one of the reasons my builder stated why he didn’t like Trex). Still, you did a beautiful job…the TimberTech deck planks that I’m dismantling has two usable sides….either of which can be installed facing up (one side has fake wood grain imprinted), with a single groove on each edge. That way, you screw in spacers and prevents drilling the surface. Little did I realize that the sub-contractor did such a crappy job with the framework, which after 11 years is starting to rot (one more reason that we are installing a stone patio). Still, your effort is nice….and you did a very nice job detailing it with “picture frame”….and I really like the color, which compliments your shed. Thank you for that prompt reply! Heck, I’m not even on my second cup of coffee! Be well, stay safe….and “happy hammering”!
