I've watched HUNDREDS of videos like these trying to figure out how to make best use of my 8x10 shed as it's all the storage I have, period. This was the first one with solutions that could easily be done by a novice with limited space/tools/budget. The rafters blew my freaking mind, literally did not even consider it. The workbench takes up MINIMAL space. I love it. You changed my life today, and I have almost enough good hefty scrap collected to do the whole shed. So with that, I'm gonna get started. Thank you SO SO much
No housing equals cheap wood don't know where you're at stuff went from $11 a piece down to $2.16 so not sure what you're talking about but they get your head out of your ass Woody's cheap Powell nobody's building houses anymore
Hands down best orgaizing video on the web. Just the simplicity, cost effectiveness, you literally destroyed that shed. Man im amazed by this video literally and im OCD so i have watched thousands of these. Great video and thank you i think i have a shed to go and organize now
This video makes me want to declutter my shed and reorganize everything. What a great tutorial! Thank you for the awesome ideas! Sincerely from Cataula, Georgia!
Nice job! I have two small suggestions to make life easier. First add a plywood backsplash to your work bench to keep things from rolling off in the back. Second put your snowmobile on dollies/skates to move it in and out easier. Just my two cents, nonetheless it looks great!
Great video! I made the loft and the workbench for our new shed. It took the better part of the day, but a lot of it was going back and forth to Home Depot. I never plan accordingly. Thanks for the simple design.
Pete, I just finished copying your ideas for my shed on a smaller scale. I have almost 0 skills as a carpenter but you made it easy to follow and copy. It came out great and I have so much more room now. I can now move some small yard machines into the shed from the garage. Thanks for a great video from the Hudson Valley, NY. Subscribed!
out of all the videos this is the one that helped me the most. Thank you., I have been a homeowner for 4 years and know absolutely nothing about wood and such. still learning. I dont have a wood saw to make 45 degree cuts but ill figure it out
I used a lot of your suggestions for my 12x32 shed... I built the loft on the back. My ceilings are 10' so I was able to make my loft 6'. My 2' benches go across the back and wrap around the sides 20'... leaving the middle 8' and the front 10x12 open for working on projects!
I have a large 32 x 64 metal quantset hut shed. Your ideas sparked me to thinking about using pallets up against the metal walls to attached shelves. Itll be a challenge. Right now all my stuff is p up piled up and it's a mess.
I concur with that idea because, since when does a workbench EVER have a lot on it? They end up being "stuff magnets" and before you know it, you hear that creaking/tearing sound and CRASH. ;)
I concur! I had to rewind and rewatch just to look at the scenery and lost concentration of my original interest, being from Montana (now residing in Seattle) I instinctively sensed a familiarity about the background scenery, are you near Bozeman curiously Pete?
This gave me some good ideas for my shed. I really like how you added 2x4's to hold your hand tools and create shelves inside the studs. Pretty clever. Thanks!
Been working on organizing our 900sf shop, but this next week we jump into our lawn shed for some organization. Going to use these methods for ours. Simple, fast, effective
Anything worth building is worth overbuilding is what I always say. That loft is definitely overbuilt! Should hold up great for whatever you want to throw on it. Great video
Go onto Amazon and buy a snowmobile dolly, it's a set of three dollies, one for each ski and one for the track. It will make moving the sled around in the building a breeze. I just purchased one for mine and it's made moving it around so.much easier.
I now know what I will be doing this weekend, I will be copying some of your projects for my shed thanks for taking the time to share this one with us it may have been trivial to you at the time but this one helped me considerably. Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.
Thanks for the tips, great ideas. Well presented, makes me think I can do it too. First I’ll need a shed, just sold our old place with a 16 by 10 shed... thanks again, appreciate the effort
Thank you sir! I have seen many shelves built but not a floating deck, great idea on slapping two long boards to make own beam!!! My shed is smaller area, but 12ft tall!!
Thanks! Very good. Great location there. My shed is only 12 x10 but have installed 12ft x30inch shelf from OSB and 2x3's, lag bolts, with enough room for lawn tractor underneath. Will add adjoining 18in wide shelf+l build tire racks from 2x4's. Gotta plug small gaps to keep mice out!
Wonderful timing, I'm getting a 12x24 shed delivered in a few days and will steal many of your ideas. I also have an Ultima ZT2 50" and love the results. I'm saving this video to watch again later.
Great to hear the Cub Cadet is working great for you! And how exciting to have a 12x24 shed on the way! We'll pretty much have the exact same setups :) Cheers!
Great stuff. Nice and simple and cheap. Since I love to complicate projects...I like painting the tops of shelves before I install so that they are easy to clean. A decent primer sprayed on (via electric sprayer) outside is the easiest way before they are installed.
Nice video. I'm looking to DIY my own 10' x 10' shed at my new house. The shed kits are nice but expensive and not all the wood is up to my standards. I mean some come with 2" x 3"s?? and warped boards. So I've looked at a few online websites that have freely available shed plans and think I'll go this route, after all I'm doing most of the work and have some construction experience growing up on a farm gives you experience with just about everything life throws at you. Plus a father-in-law who's willing to help me out who has tons of construction experience, he built over half his own house! Thanks again!
That’s awesome! You will game a blast building it and it will be super rewarding! Here is a 10x10 shed I did last year in case it gives ya a little inspiration :) cheers!
Nice vid - I appreciate that you emphasized just keeping it simple and using scrap. No need to go out and buy fancy hanger systems. My last garage was all exposed 2x4 and 2x6 studded walls - add a few horizontal furring strips and those cavities are beyond useful for stashing metal bar stock, garden tools, all kinds of misc stuff. If I ever build another garage it will be tough to cover the walls!
Nice door prop. Same one I used to use. Then I bought a gate latch. One of those that automatically latches when you close the gate but it’s spring loaded so you have to pull a lever to open. I mounted the latch bar on the shed and the latch itself on the door. Drilled a hole through the door. Attached a 1/2 “ to 3/4” nut to picture frame wire and ran it from the inside of the door through the drilled hole to the latch on the outside. Secured the wire the latch release. Now when I open my shed door I can just push it open till it latches against the front end of the building. To shut the door, I just pull the nut on the wire which releases the latch on the other side of the door. I don’t have to prop the door open, reach around it to unlatch it or unhook anything anymore. Less than $7 for each door and about 30 minutes time. The hardest part was aligning the latch and bar horizontally due to the fact of the trim placement on the shed. I eventually added an extra piece of plywood for a mounting surface. I like what you did with your rafters. Good job.
Its all about utilizing every inch of space you have so that you can have more room and make it look clean and organized ... GOOD WORK ... I am about to purchase a 10x24 shed and i have a lot of work ahead of me :-) Thats all good because i will enjoy doing it.
Very enjoyable video, thanks for posting. You made it look simple......I'm sure most of us can appreciate how much work went into this. Plus the OCD side of me really enjoys the organization. Well done.
That was awesome..I just had a one car garage built for storage...same size as your shed 12 x 24...you had great ideas to save a bunch of money on brackets for tools.

Great video, only thing I don’t like is propane bottles under the workbench. I have a new shed that was just finished this week. I am going to use many of your ideas! Thank you.
As the years go by, your hanging tool collection will expand and change. I prefer pegboard to putting up insidual hangers like that. Either way having things up in your line of sight is a great way to find them easily without making some sort of system.
Love this video, I watch it over and over again and keep building and adding stuff to my shed. Thanks for sharing this, these tips were priceless to me. 😃❤️
Check the temperature up where your kayak is in the summer... may get hot enough to make the bottom start distorting/sagging and then it won’t go as well in the water.
It's a beautiful day here in Australia...I'm sitting inside watching your shed organisation video while my own shed is a mess! I'm heading out there now. BTW, it looks like you live in a postcard. Stunning views.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a smaller shed but you gave me some great ideas. I hate going in the shed because of bugs, but now I want to organize it so critters won’t jump out at me. Lol
Awesome! So many great ideas. I appreciate your descriptions while assembling. I’ve been looking for storage ideas for my garage. Also my son in law has a great idea for his snowmobile, he built 3 boards with wheels using 2x4’s and left gaps for his skis to fit into. Makes it easier to maneuver the sled in the garage.
Great video with great ideas! I would want the work table to have at least an angle brace or two just in case I need to bear down on it during one of the nick knack projects you mentioned. I see it like four wheel drive: Its always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
Great video! I'll be using some of these in my shop remodel. Only thing I would have done extra is recess the osb and plywood decking on your shelves into the space between the studs. Still the upgrade made a huge difference.
i'd recommend installing things so they could be easily taken apart---the loft in sections and pins at the studs because you never know. I've used chains from the ceiling to support a floating bench.
At 5:30 I would do things differently by using some transparent pipe with water to find the lines instead of measuring from the ground. In this case it will work just fine the way you did it as the floor is levelled, but as a general rule, I would prefer the other method. Or, in case it isn't possible, then a longer level from bracket to bracket. It takes a little extra work but it works perfectly. Other than that, nice video. I don't know why youtube suggested me this video (unless youtube already knows I'm all about a, say, random order approach kind of guy) but it's given me some ideas. Thank you.
@@DIYPETE my pleasure. I wouldn't comment if I didn't like the video, and since it gave some ideas, I was thinking of the kind of shed (not a shed, but whatever) I have, and the ground is completely irregular, so I can't do what you did there, but I remembered what my father (who was a blacksmith) would do in that case. Thank you for sharing.
Great job man, I need to do that, I just haven't find the time to start doing it, I have a total mess in my shed, is disgusting. I can't even find stuff some times, I would say most of the time, thanks Pete, I got some ideas that I can use, beatiful country side, Cheers from Costa Rica.
Great video Pete!! I had recently bought a 12x24 shed also and your video inspired me to do the exact same. Came out Great!! The only thing I did different was put a peg board above the table turned out great!!!
Was really looking for ideas to organize cluttered gardening tools but the idea of having a bench area for work and a loft for other things was awesome thank you for the video new subscriber greetings from south Texas 👍
Wow this shed is perfect. That is exactly what I need. That is beautiful country you're in. My wife and I want to sell our house in Denver and buy a place in Montana.

Ahhh, the good old days when boards were cheap! Nice job.
You’re telling me! I chose to clad my shed with pallet wood. Couldn’t justify the cost of plywood. Probably will replace it all eventually.
Found this June 2022. Your comment still applies. 😩
Yes. So were first dates, remember?

Took me ten minutes just to get past the view, I cant imagine looking out my back window with a view of mountains. Beautiful !!
Thanks for watching!
Yeah I’d get nothing done. Just end up standing on the lawn gazing 😂
I really like the boards on either side of the stud for hanging tools with handles (9:12). What a great idea! Thanks Pete! Cheers from PA.
Hope all is well in PA Jeff! Take care man!
You saved me a ton of mistakes. Thanks. The double jack stud loft was my favorite.
Will increase my square footage more than 33%
Great to hear, good luck getting your she all organized!

Wow, gr8 shed organization design. Alot of storage space 4 all yur stuff & vehicles. Very basic & innovative. Thx 4 sharing on the internet.

Montana is looking nice right now!!! Great project, Pete
Thanks Brad! Hope all is well in Nashville man!
Pegboard above the work table would be great for hanging small hand tools for easy access.
Great idea Gary, thanks!
I would add 3 supports for your work bench at a 45 anchoring it to the wall(2x4). Good video !!!
I concur with that idea because, since when does a workbench EVER have a lot on it? They end up being "stuff magnets" and before you know it, you hear that creaking/tearing sound and CRASH. ;)
Thanks! Yeah I'm going to add a few supports when I get around to it. Cheers!

Thanks! Ha yeah I definitely am an over-builder too ! Built to last :) cheers!
Figure the cost of overbuilding a project like this over the course of it's lifetime, it's peanuts. You will be glad you went the extra mile.
he over built the loft and under built the "workbench"...
Great add would be a 4X8 sheet of peg board above your bench to hang a few essentials. Love the space and the view!
Thanks!

I like the straps for the skis, mine skipped off once per side. I'll definitely modify mine to do something similar to that

Nice work !
I’ve watched this video 4 times over the last year.
One of these days I’ll get around to doing the work
Nice! A couple of coats of sprayed flat white paint would help a lot to allow some natural light in the shed.
Thanks David!
Nice vid Pete!!
To the point and explicit enough to understand what your plan was without watching a 2 hr vid!! 👍🏻
Nice place you have man!!

Here is a man who likes his toys, awesome!
My shed is half the size but your video inspired me to maximize the storage space. Thanks so much for making this video.
Great to hear Paul!
Very nice, I have a shed and I did something similar and it freed up a lot of space. Thanks for sharing.
And beautiful country living
Thanks!
Nice work. Idea to save your coconut, on the lower edge of your loft cut a large pool noodle in 1/2 and add it. No sore head if you were to bump it.
Thanks!!

Glad I found this. I just started building a loft and shelves but now I see a few changes I should make.
Great to hear!
Nice door prop. Same one I used to use. Then I bought a gate latch. One of those that automatically latches when you close the gate but it’s spring loaded so you have to pull a lever to open. Thanks! haha, yeah I added a latch system later this summer and it is so much better then the old shovels :) Cheers!
Loved the video. I like seeing peoples little tricks for doing something. I saw several "now why didn't I think of that" moments.
Thanks for watching!

GOOD WORK ...
I am about to purchase a 10x24 shed and i have a lot of work ahead of me :-) Thats all good because i will enjoy doing it.
Congrats on the new shed and enjoy dialing it in to get exactly what you want for organization! Cheers
Very enjoyable video, thanks for posting.

Well done.
Thanks so much Big Mike!
That was awesome..I just had a one car garage built for storage...same size as your shed 12 x 24...you had great ideas to save a bunch of money on brackets for tools.

Great shed organization ideas. I have currently built a shed, now to build shelves and organize. By the way, love the Montana scenery.
Thanks Eric!

Hello Alejandro! Great to har from you. Have fun with your shed organizing projects, and take care!
Nice use of scrap material and space.
Thanks, always nice to use what you already have! Cheers
Great video, only thing I don’t like is propane bottles under the workbench.
I have a new shed that was just finished this week. I am going to use many of your ideas! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Great project, thanks for sharing. It’s amazing of much extra space the rafters add!
Thanks so much! Yeah those rafters ended up being a great way to maximize space. A couple subscribers recommended it and I'm so glad they did!

Great Job !!!! WOW!!!
You’ve earned a follow! Great job on loft support and organization. Just the video I was looking for. Howdy from Texas.
That is one of the nicest organize sheds I have seen. Thanks for sharing

Check the temperature up where your kayak is in the summer... may get hot enough to make the bottom start distorting/sagging and then it won’t go as well in the water.
Thanks! Good thinking, I will definitely pay attention to this so I don’t get the oil canning, cheers!
Great job! I did my shed 3 years ago and ive never enjoyed it more. Thanks for the great video

Thanks!

Thanks, and so glad it inspired ya to go and get it organized! :)
Great video and what an amazing view of the mountains!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a smaller shed but you gave me some great ideas. I hate going in the shed because of bugs, but now I want to organize it so critters won’t jump out at me. Lol
Good luck getting it all organized, it will be worth it!
def grabbed a few ideas for my small 10x12 shed!
Nice video. Watching 3 years later but help me a lot w/ too much ideas. Thanks
Great tips and utilizing 2 x 4 scraps and other ideas!
Right?! How have I not seen this video before now? Classic overthinking has kept my shed project on hold for so long.
So simple but yet I wouldn't have thought of :using 2x4s for tool hanger, step for shelves...
Thanks for watching!
I have a new shed under construction and this was super helpful in envisioning how to fit it out!
Glad it was helpful!

Hey Robert! I ended up adding a couple brackets after the video went up, cheers!
Some really great, simple, cheap ideas Pete...very nice! Cheers! Chris.
Always great to hear from you Chris, thanks!
Bravo. Planning on putting up a shed this spring. Great inspiration for storage. Thanks Pete!
Awesome Jared! Good luck!
Great video! I'll be using some of these in my shop remodel. Only thing I would have done extra is recess the osb and plywood decking on your shelves into the space between the studs. Still the upgrade made a huge difference.
Thanks Landon! And great idea on recessing the plywood, cheers!
excellent attention to detail... shed is at maximum use once you added the extra features
Thanks! Yep it is definitely able to accommodate everything now and it made such a difference. Hope all is well!
i'd recommend installing things so they could be easily taken apart---the loft in sections and pins at the studs because you never know. I've used chains from the ceiling to support a floating bench.
Thanks!
Love the loft. I'm a little concerned that you'l be rebuilding it with bigger timber in the future, but it is working great now!
Thanks! It's been doing fine, but if I were to put a lot of weight up there I may. Cheers
Very good tips, thanks
Thanks!
Good job.
I might copy you a couple things in my shed.
2 things I would add to yours:
Windows or skylights and lights.
Great ideas!
Great video!!! Very helpful. More videos like this are needed here on TH-cam!!!
Thanks Jonathan!

I wouldn't comment if I didn't like the video, and since it gave some ideas, I was thinking of the kind of shed (not a shed, but whatever) I have, and the ground is completely irregular, so I can't do what you did there, but I remembered what my father (who was a blacksmith) would do in that case.
Thank you for sharing.
how can you work without always stopping to admire the view!
just have to focus haha! :) Cheers
Great job man, I need to do that, I just haven't find the time to start doing it, I have a total mess in my shed, is disgusting. I can't even find stuff some times, I would say most of the time, thanks Pete, I got some ideas that I can use, beatiful country side, Cheers from Costa Rica.
Best of luck!!
Thanks for all your helpful tips, I’m about to borrow a lot of your ideas.
Great video Pete!! I had recently bought a 12x24 shed also and your video inspired me to do the exact same. Came out Great!! The only thing I did different was put a peg board above the table turned out great!!!
Cools ideas, I really like the background mountains.
Thanks!
Was really looking for ideas to organize cluttered gardening tools but the idea of having a bench area for work and a loft for other things was awesome thank you for the video new subscriber greetings from south Texas 👍
Thanks for subscribing and I hope all is well down in south Texas!
Great work and very simple storage solutions. Thank you for the vision.
You bet!
Very nice job. One suggestion-propane tanks stored inside a can be a real danger assuming they have gas in them. Better to keep them outside.
Thanks!
Plastic gas can under a workbench, where one might use a grinder, are also tempting fate.
Pretty strong build, well done, I wish my shed was so well organized !
Nice organization ideas, now your going to have to get some electricity, put some skylights in the roof.
I know right! haha, cheers :)
Job well done! Thanks for sharing!
1st thing the view is amazing!! The shed is nice too....
haha thanks!
Very nice! Now all you need is power, lights, receptacles, possibly a small A/C unit?
Hey Jordan! Thanks for watching!
Thanks from Massachusetts. Some great ideas you've shared
Thanks for watching!
Wow this shed is perfect. That is exactly what I need. That is beautiful country you're in. My wife and I want to sell our house in Denver and buy a place in Montana.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video. Epoxy coating on the floor would be nice to avoid oil stains on the bare plywood.
Sealing the floor is definitely a good idea!
