Great video man. I have a ramp on my shed now, but it's pretty old, is not attached to the shed, and isn't big enough for the riding mower I'll be getting soon. This video will be extremely helpful when I go to build a wider ramp soon. 🤝

Nice job, I pit shingles on mine to give it a no slip. Works great, give it a shot. Oh and it protects the wood from rotting out so soon.

The standard elevation change for a wheelchair ramp is 1in down per foot of ramp. Codes may change from place to place so I would double check. Thanks!
I made a ramp out of an old extention ladder..seperated the two ladders. Made a ledger board with notches cut where end of ladder will go. Put the 2 ladder pieces 48 inches apart. Secure from underside with a 48 inche piece of deck board. Flip it over and cover with treated plywood. Pavers under the ends. Secure ends in ledger with pipe strap. Paint.

What would you suggest if we wanted to add the board to aluminum siding underneath the door so we didn't want to cut the door? Would create a small lip/ bump at the door but wouldn't be a big issue.

I just put an extension on my shed. My door face trim overlaps the opening by about 1" (my old doors were flush). I did this because in the Chicago area it is recommended to prevent snow/rain from driving under the door. If I have a 1" rise from the ramp to the shed floor will this be annoying? (Guess I could raise the bottom trim 1/2" to 3/4" and still block the wind)
If the ramp is long it needs concrete block under the center of the ramp . I felt it supported my 2 cub cadet mowers better and did not sag like my neighbors ramp .Plus I added joist hangers to the shed joists . My shed was premade metal one and then I have a shed I built and then I just purchased a new shed prebuilt from premier sheds that I will be building a ramp for . The shed I built has a front porch on it because it has a great view of the mountains since my house is up on a mountain oppesit the other mountain . I am a 69 year old woman and still got the energy to do all this ., besides mowing over 3 acres of lawn. Gravel under the ramp is better and gravel under the shed is even better . I guess I over build every thing . My 100 foot long front porch is done with 6x6's . I would never cut my door driving rain and snow melt will run under it and rot the floor inside the shed . A little bump when you get up the ramp won't matter to the lawn mower Remember joist hngers are your friend just like insulation is your friend . Shed I built is 16x24 feet long , But I was 50 when I built that and now 69 and it was insulated drywalled and has water and electric to it besides sofa bed , tv , and small kitchen . I guess a semi guest house . No bathroom just a water holding tank for the kitchen drain that I use to water plants . I have remodeled 3 houses and built kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets so a shed is easy . A ramp is easy but needs support under the center , ride on mowers are heavy
Loved the video. I noticed you cut the barn doors at an angle. Did you just eyeball the angle or did you measure for it?
I used a board laying flat on the ramp and against the end of the closed door to mark the angle. I the eyeballed to and trued to get it close. It didn’t matter to much to me if it was exact. Thanks! 😁
Wondering how well a riding mower went in and out and at what angel your ramp is? My land slops downward and away from my shed and is about 24" off the ground where the lowest part of the door is. I'm thinking I may have to build a 2 part ramp.
It seems to do great at this grade but I have thought about putting sand paper tape down to avoid slipping when it is wet. Thanks and good luck with yours!

Great work but I don’t like placing the ends of the ramps on a center block. What you going do when it starts sinking.?
True. If it sinks I will have to jack up the end and place a few pressure treated board under the ramp to shim it up to where it is meant to be. Thanks!
I suspect I’m missing something here, but why in the world would you put the shed that high off the ground? From the outside looking in it seems a bit unnecessary.
Yeah, It is a bit higher than I would have wanted. but around here if the wood is in contact with the ground, the termites will destroy it in no time. Because of that it is best to have it elevated. the reason it is this high is because of the slight hill it was placed on. The back corner is only a few inches off of the ground while the from corner is over a foot. I hope that answers your question.

Im getting ready to walk outside now and try to figure out how much wood i need and start building my 1st ramp lol. I just bought a big commercial zero turn mower and my shed is about this high so ill definitely use this video. You think i might need 2x10s to support a mower that heavy or would you think 2x6s will be fine? I'm not a carpenter at all and this is probably a dumb question lol. But how do I know what angle to put on the 2x6s that will be on the ground? I see you used 2x4s to mark it but I can't make out how you measured with them. And how to measure the 2x6s that go flat up against the shed? I see you used a level but again I can't make out how you measured it with the level
Good luck with your project. The 2x6’s are plenty to support my 52in zero turn that I have but I would recommend 2x8s if you want more peace of mind. Sorry, there’s not an angle that I could share because it all depends on how high the shed is and what angle the ground is. I would recommend getting an extra 2x8 to test cuts with and try to eye ball it at first.
@@SimonSaysDIY alright man I'll definitely give that a try. I been using those aluminum fold up ramps that ya drive a regular riding mower up into a truck with. I put center blocks under those ramps to support the zero turn mower and pull it up into the shed. But I'm wanting something permanent so I don't have to keep pulling out the ramps and blocks every time lol

Probably $50-75 for the materials. It depends on how long the ramp needs to be.
Have a question if I could figure how I would include pics. Bottom line is the shed doors extend 2+ inches below the shed floor. The only thing I can think to do is remove the doors and shorten them so they match the floor.
Yeah that’s what I would recommend. I had to do the same and cut an inch off of the bottom of my doors.
