For those storing your chainsaws... you may want to store them horizontally and place a small flat aluminum pan (like the ones for BBQ grill runoff) underneath the body to catch the leaking chain oil... they always leak.

Lay it on it’s side and it won’t leak. Another trick is to loosen the oil cap to relieve pressure but you have to remember to tighten it before use.

I absolutely love your channel. I'm getting an 8 x 12' shed installed in a week and will definitely use some of your ideas. Can't wait for my garage to have fewer lawn and garden items so that it can become the woodworking space that I've been dreaming about for quite some time! Thanks for all of the ideas and education across the board with your wealth of videos!!

I like how everything is cut nice and straight to fit between the 2x4s and the dowel idea is actually really great-I've been using extra large utility hooks but dowels you can customize the length. Your video makes me want to get out our tools and start organizing!

Hey April, I think your tips were great! I love the advice on thinking about what you will be storing and what your shelving needs are. As for putting your gear in plastic bins that someone else commented there’s always gonna be that person that has to feel like they are contributing by giving advice that is known as common sense. You do great things and you gave me some great ideas on what to do with my scrap lumber thanks for the inspiration and advice.

April, excellent idea for the yard tools! I had 2x4s extending out about 18 inches to hang my racks, shovels, etc. which wasted precious space and was a bit of a head bump hazard. Recessing between the studs got them out of the way. Picked up so much space in my rather small storage shed. As you pointed out - only took some scrap lumber I had on hand. Much appreciated!!!

Thankyou April, the fence boards as decking is something I've never thought of.
I see there is currently no electricity on the shed, If you plan on adding it later I'd suggest putting everything in the shed (everything that's going to live there at least) and note where they seam to like sitting. Then you can plan out the outlets and lights accordingly, and reduce the amount of wire you've gotta buy, or reuse, for the job.
If you don't want to run power out to the shed, you might think about wiring it as if you were going to, but add in a power distribution box that you can plug into, and just run an extension cord when you need to.
    TY more videos please.

Funny that I should view this today. Your French Cleat organizing video inspired me to re-organize my garden tool shed in a similar manner. Especially the "long-handled" tools with the flexibility of moving about at different levels in/out of the space between the studs. Haven't done it yet but this also provided some ideas.

Great job April! I appreciate the fact that you are doing this yourself, not supervising contractors!
Very nice size shed too. I like the rolling ladder hanger idea. I currently keep them on hangers on the outside
of the shed, but they get really messy from rotting leaves and rain. I have a 6' and 12' ladder, but may need to keep the extension
ladder outside. I also need a ramp like you built in the other video as my heaviest items are a big generator and power washer.
I may design a 4-5 foot "flat" area to meet the shed as opposed to just the incline. I am also thinking of building an exclosure of
sorts on the backside of the shed to store basic garden digging tools....they can live outside. I'll keep the cutting tools inside tho.
First and foremost, get RID of the junk that you've been keeping for decades and never used!!
    Keep up the great videos.

April, awesome tips. From personal experience, store anything with liquids closer to the ground instead. Trust me on this. Summer heat and winter cold will weaken those plastic containers and end up like the messes I've had to deal with. I hope this helps.

    • @Mixdplate
      @Mixdplate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Great tip on the liquids! Makes so much sense too. Sheds/garages aren't typically climate controlled. In the summer, heat rises. I've noticed some of my containers start to bulge a bit during those months. Keeping them lower will certainly be safer and smarter if anything were to leak. Will be re-organizing this spring for sure! Thanks for sharing.

April as simple as the brackets and shelves may seem, I never would have thought to put slots into them so the butt up against the was. And the slots for the tools to hang off of too. My shed will definitely benefit from this video. I currently have just nails in the wall or studs to hang tools off of and it is not an efficient use of space. Thanks for another great video!~Dolly

Until about 3 years when it'll start looking dingy, grimy and dirty; also to mention chipping from various equipment scuffing the walls over time. It wont be looking so good, then. So in a long term perspective, it's just best to keep the wood natural.

Great video and storage ideas! One word of caution, I would not store my motorcycle helmets in an unconditioned space for any extended period of time! The heat deteriorates the foam shock absorption liner under the shell. They don't actually last very long as it is, much less exposed to high heat in a shed! Free advice, worth what it cost! Thanks for all you great videos. I have used many of your ideas in our home projects. Thanks again from Tennessee!

Another very informative and creative project from April Wilkerson. It's useful to see the re-purposing of your scrap wood for this job. It would be nice to see you make something without all that expensive hardware; crafting something instead of using those coated J hooks or threaded rods to hang the ladders would have been impressive. Thanks for posting this work. Please keep them coming.

Nice video. I saw quite a few ideas that we can use for our shed that we're going to build. I really like the loft and ladder storage. We're building a 10' x 17' shed for a woodshop and storage shed.
