Dallas should compile recipes for these delicious dishes and publish a "Chosen Cookbook"! 😄
And everything looks healthy. They work well with limited resources! ❤
I agree
Yes 👍
What a great idea!
Yes!
I like that he offers her a seat at his right side. John and James would have noticed that 🤣🤣
Good catch
I noticed that as well. I am sure their mother would not have been happy about it.😂
Yeah that’s right 😂😂
The problem isn’t that Martha is serving and Mary is not. The problem is Martha’s attitude and resentment.
I'm sure many of us can relate to her situation. Trying to get food prepared for a meal for say a holiday and you get very little to no help. Martha's desire to serve was in the right place but she got frustrated with the lack of help from her sister.
They both were wrong in a way. A better idea would have been for them to work together, i understand the lessom of the show, but even in the show each saw where their mistakes were and learned. One wanted to listen and the other to serve, we must do both at the right times, listen to better serve , and serve to put lessons to action.
I love how this whole scene and lesson was done. Jesus didn’t embarrass Martha, he didn’t rebuke her in front of everyone. He gently approached her and explained why Mary listening to Him was so important. He then goes on to show appreciation for her hard work. The disciples also eased the situation by arguing over who should get more. One of my favorite ensemble scenes of the show.
Yes the parable, as i understand it...even if you're saved one day before Jesus comes back, they have as much right to His Kingdom as the one saved yesterday ❤ God is good 🤗
Martha is totally relatable to anyone who's ever been prepping food in a kitchen for guests around a holiday and not receiving any help. Just because certain people like to serve others doesn't mean they couldn't use an extra set of hands to assist them.
Everyone is forgetting that Jesus points out she was TROUBLED. She wasn't doing it because it gave her joy. Lots of people serve because it gives them joy.
@@swampfaye but having to do it all on your own can dampen that joy. She was troubled because she got no help.
@@Murph_gaming No, Jesus always puts his finger on the real problem just as he did with the woman at the well when he told her to go and call her husband. Martha was troubled about many things and the incident in the kitchen was just the tipping point.
@Murph_gaming I'll admit that because she was a woman, she may not have know that listening to the rabbi and learning was an option for her. Jesus teaching women was obviously a new approach.
Im surprised Mary Magdalene & Tamar weren't helping, but if they did it would have ruined the scene with the parable & Jesus' speech to Martha. Would like to know the recipe for the food being served.
Mee too!
The group, including Mary and Tamar, just walked a very long way to get there. I’m sure they were tired, hungry and thirsty. Mary should’ve helped so Martha could’ve sat with the group sooner.
Plus they were guests of there home
The food looked like fresh baked challah bread with a slice of peach and blackberries, sprinkled with pistachios and drizzled honey
With wine. Yum
This parable can also allude to Christians who spend their lives working for the Lord, suffering hardships, etc, and newer Christians who gain the same benefits of salvation that they haven’t had to labor as long or hard for.
It is not an allusion, it is the point. They are laborers, wageworkers, not a good thing. They are not the Body of Christ. The context of the parable is the kingdom of heaven during the millennium reign of Christ. It is pretexted by Mt19:28, "And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." Then the parable of the vineyard worker. Romans 4:4, "Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt." These people are not IN Christ. They are the mortals called to work in the vineyard 'Israel' during the millennium. The day's wage is 2Pe3:8, "Beloved, remember this one thing, a day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day." Aka the Millennium. Our goal is not to be a wageworker in the vineyard trying to rewarded under debt, but to not work but have our rest in the Lord. Romans 11:6, "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
Salvation is exactly the same for each of us , whether we come late or early ! His mercy 😁
Thank you so very much for all the work you do to make all this information available. I host a "Pizza With The Chosen" group in my home every Tuesday evening where we watch one or two episodes each week, depending on how much time everyone has. I have often referenced information you have shared, telling the group about your deep dives, but starting this next Tuesday, I plan on showing one of your videos after each episode. Also, thank you for the reminder that while all of what you do can be accessed for free, this is your job. You absolutely have earned a good salary, and I will be supporting you to help you get it. Would you please remind us to like and comment as well? I get so sucked into the information that I often forget to. :) Praying for you and your wife! Thanks again!
Thank you Brandon. This review gave me a better understanding of this story how we must prioritize time spent in the Master's presence. Loved it ❤
I have always struggled with this scripture. As a Martha my service is my offering of my love. When it is ignored or made fun of I struggle to focus on my offering and not their response. Thank God he knows I'm a work in progress!
People often misunderstand this incident with Martha and Mary. Jesus always puts his finger on the real problem just as he did with the woman at the well when he told her to go and call her husband.
The incident with serving was just the tipping point which revealed Martha's true problem which didn't have anything to do with Mary at all. As Jesus said, she was troubled about many things. He was inviting Martha, in the words of Matthew 11:29, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your soul."
I love how Jesus says to Martha, "My words, they'll never pass away." Same as season 2 episode 1 when the Mother Mary tells John - "Heaven and Earth will pass away but my (His) words will never pass away..."
I'm on team Mary. I hate when I'm sitting and minding my own business, and someone gets mad at me for sitting and minding by own business.
I always enjoy your deep dives Brandon but this season they are particularly good 😊
I suggest applying the parable of the vineyard worker hiring workers through the day and paying them them same to our current life in the Church: no matter if you are a Christian since childhood or a month ago, or if you do a lot in your church ( preacher musician etc etc), or just turn up for the services, you get the same gift from God ie life in heaven.
Marthas' resentment she was feeling was from the enemy, and it blinded her to the joy of the truth of Christs' words. She would have been fine if she served with joy, and no resentment.
Service is a gift you give with lovingkindness, we should not let the enemy use our human frailty to turn it into a point of contention, if we see others not helping us.
The Cross was a Triumph which The Lord accepted with Joy. "For the Joy set before Him, He endured the cross despising the shame, and is set on the right hand of The Father"
She wasn't serving out of resentment, the resentment came because she wasn't getting help. I'm sure many of us have been in that situation where we're doing a lot in the kitchen and no one is really offering their assistance.
@@Murph_gaming Sorry for any misunderstanding, I was not trying to imply that she was serving with resentment, but that she became resentful because she was getting no assistance from Mary, however, she is human, and those feelings can arise, but as The Lord points out, resentment is not from Him, and it ends up staining what would have been a more pure form of worship, where service, even without help is a gift that should be given with joy, and humility.
@michaelyork4554 no worries man.
Martha could have sat down and enjoyed the lesson too after everyone was served if she had help. But making a fuss in front of honored guests about it is a no-no
Don't choose one...take the best of both Mary and Martha. 👑
I like the new insights I gain from watching the Chosen & The Chosen Sleuth! It helps me go back to Scripture with fresh new eyes!
I’m on team Jesus. He says it’s better to sit at his feet, then to serve
No, it's better to learn at the masters feet than to serve AND BE TROUBLED. She didn't serve to be serving and loving.
@@swampfaye we are saying the same thing using slightly different words. But I will say, your statement is clearer than mine.
I am to incompetent too be like Martha and too distracted to be like Mary (I have so much room for improvement! I know), but I always sympathized with Marta! She also wanted to listen and be present at The Lord Jesus's feet, but she felt her duty was to first serve, nourish the guests with food and drink. Some help from Mary would enable Martha to spend more time listening.
I tell my husband that I cook for my family because I love them. If I'm not cooking, I'm just not feeling it. Fend for yourself. That's what cereal and mac and cheese is for :D
Back then a meal was hard to prepared! It was from scratch! I used to pick go to the farm with my mom and stay home with my two older sister to prepare it. I also came home to pickup and delivery it back and forth! I understand Marta complaint😅! I grew up in a third country!🎉❤.
My notifications were off. They are on. Now again. Della Warren here
Another great breakdown and deep dive!! We appreciate it
I have always sided with Mary. I can be like Martha to prepare, but the moment the discussion begins I am all ears! ( people can help themselves to the kitchen!😉)
Hagah is what the fathers of the church have written about in relation to the Eucharist that united Jesus words and the bread and wine transubstantiated into His body and blood at a Catholic Mass.
I like how The Chosen sets up this scene And allows it to play out in the perspective of reality. I like how they have blended various scripture passages All in context of the importance of Jesus's words.
Wow. Thanks for the language insight, Brandon. That was a beautiful addition to the writing.
I know where Martha is. She is my daughter and I am Mary. Want to read everything that I can get my hands on about Jesus and his Kingdom.
The gospel of Mark is a great place to start. I think many people read it without seeing that the stories connect to each other and kingdom themes are running throughout the gospel. We see the authority of Jesus over creation when he calms the sea. We see his authority over the power of Satan. And we see how he restores people to be what they were created to be. The Kingdom is breaking through!
I'm teaching the gospel of Mark to two groups of older women and we are all amazed at how we've missed these wonderful themes all our lives.
I think just the opposite. There was no fault in either of them per se. They did what they both thought was right and Our Lord in this presentation was beautiful imo.
THANK YOU!!
I’d be funny if Martha brought in a stack of pizza boxes.
Have you seen the new show coming soon? The Promised Land. It is about the wilderness journey with Moses, but it is a comedy. Something tells me.... you'd like it. I just found out about it yesterday so forgive me if you already knew. It is going to be on youtube.
I am with Team Mary 100%!!!
I find it interesting that he said Martha, Martha you are anxious about many things, it takes me back to the sermon where he said do not be anxious, can it add one cubit to your stature, I think he was teaching her not to worry about trivial things but to focus on the things that matter as Mary did. He was not rebuking her, he was teaching her what is truly important.
Those dough bowls are great my landlady Della would love to have them
Is it possible to "recommend" to Dallas or whoever that it would be great if someone could interview the costume designer and give us insight as to her great talent!! thank you!
I don’t think there should be teams. Jesus used it as a lesson for everyone! Recognize what’s in you that needs healing. Learn a lesson but don’t make it about a competition or who’s right and who’s wrong.
I was mad at Mary too 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
I think that they were both at fault. Jesus & His disciples came in hot & tired. They needed something to drink & eat. If Mary helped Martha to just quickly give them all a drink of water, they could have then sat down together to listen carefully to Jesus’ teaching.
Hey Brandon why do you use ESV version only? Maybe the amplified can bring more details just saying but good job
Imma be the one to say it, Lazarus should also help Martha serve
Hello Brandon
I am named Martha partly because my mom felt sorry for Martha in the Bible. 😁
If I was Martha I would’ve have them fend for themselves
I think out of respect to all, Mary should have help Martha no question asks.
Thanks Brandon. Is that word “hagah “ meaning to devour or gnaw on, used anywhere else in the Bible? Would make excellent application in the introduction to Bible studies.
Yeah absolutely! It’s a Hebrew word used all throughout the Old Testament a good application is the when it’s translated meditate.
Psalm 143:5: “I remember the days of old; I meditate (hagah) on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.”
Hey, can you make a video about the promise land series that's going to release soon!
We absolutely will once we are done with these Daily Season 4 Videos no worries! We've been following them for over a year!
Fairness honors agreement, not comparison. The early birds agreed to work that day for a denarius, and that's what they received; what the others made was none of their business.
Random question - will chosen at some point introduce Saul of Tarsus at the end of season 7 or 8?
Season 6 is the crucifixion then there's another season after but I'd assume it will end at the accension not the persecution of the church.
Hmm. Akin to monks being isolated from the corporeal world and leaving the heavy lifting to others all the time. I don't see that their concentrated efforts have healed the world. We'll see in November.
Jesus and Laz were childhood friends- the younger sisters would have grown up with Jesus around
Do anyone know this dudes story? Did he go to christian school or did his grandma have him at church 7 days a week? How is he so knowledgeable? He makes me want to take a few classes! Please share if you guys know, thanks!
Check out his Snipe Life Channel. There are some posts there that will give you more of his personal story.
@teresabrowning4126 thank you
Why do I feel like Jesus's point was diluted by His extra biblical words?
This comment I think is WAY off topic from this video but oh well because I was doing something completely irrelevant when I had this thought. And, it'll be answered Sunday likely.
In the Bible, the Mary who anoints Jesus' feet the bible states had 7 demons cast out.
I wonder if they'll address that in the show?
No you're mixing up Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany. Lots of people get them mixed up.
@@TheChosenSleuth ahh. Got it.
Martha’s self righteousness attitude of heart believed she had to perform(ance) to earn was was due her: His Love. She played the victim and complained, revealed her heart’s condition. Just as the vineyard workers, Judas and the others did with the parable. Mary (name is no coincidence) chose the Best. Throughout scripture- 2 conditions of the heart: self righteousness in all it’s forms (the Law of Moses, Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, dead letter / natural understanding of scripture) and Father’s Righteousness, Grace, Jesus Christ, The Lamb; The Tree of Life. We too get to chose.
G'day, Brandon! I'm interested in the theory that Jesus and Lazarus were friends for a long time up to this point. My familiarity with Scripture doesn't lead me to believe that was the case. In Luke 10, it says that a woman in Bethany named Martha welcomed Jesus and His disciples into her home. Was this a first-time encounter, as there is no previous mention of their meeting in the gospels? The Bible also does not say that they (Jesus and Lazarus) were related in any way. Do you have any information on why the writers present this as a long-time friendship?
Most of the connection comes from John Chapter 11. in this chapter we see that Jesus' interaction with the family overall is very much not of a stranger. He knows Martha and Mary and the letter he receives refers to Lazarus as "the one whom you love". So they for sure were close at some level.
@@TheChosenSleuth Thank you. How much time, however, might have elapsed between the scene about Martha and Mary and the death/raising of Lazarus? What I'm really wondering is how well they knew each other in this scene, even if they were fairly close later on at the time of Lazarus' death. "The Chosen" portrays Jesus and Lazarus as friends from way back, possibly in their youth, but the Bible doesn't.
lol...They are both in Heaven with our Lord now so i will go with both!!!
I have always understood this story about Mary and Martha to mean that Martha also recognizes the importance of Jesus Christ and knows that he is the Messiah - and yet worldly tasks come first in her life.
Unfortunately, I currently know a few people like that who seriously believe in the Son of Man, but don't spend much time with him because their careers seem more important to them. Very sad.
I'm more like Mary myself - I'll drop everything for a good conversation, and especially for the living words of Jesus Christ!
Don't ask what it looks like under my sofa...
What's not written in the bible is the responsibility of the laborers... QUESTIONS: When they saw others coming out to work, why did they not check with the owner? Why did they not come in for lunch or to tell him what progress has been made or to ask if their shift was over as new people have come... They have responsibility in what they were paid just as the owner has responsibility to pay them what he said he would.
The laborers who started first agreed to the hours they worked. If someone comes in later and makes a better deal that does not change the agreement you made.
The takeaway I got is that in Gods justice and fairness, the concept of time is irrelevant. Likewise the thief in the cross was permitted to enter the kingdom of heaven even though his life was rapidly fading away compared with someone like Job who endured unimaginable suffering, loss, and pain yet remained faithful over a long period of time. In the end, making it to heaven is the only goal. Everything else is pretty much irrelevant.
I have always thought that it would've been great if Martha had sat down along with Mary and told everyone to go serve themselves. I realize that Jesus was making a point, but had Martha done that, all would've wondered about the lack of hospitality 😁
Didn’t they all walk like 25 miles to get to Bethany and the house of Lazarus? I would think they would be hungry and thirsty. Martha was using her gift of hospitality, but I think Mary could have helped. She did not seem to feel any shame and seeing her sister struggling.
Its simple put God first. End of.
Too many ads dude
Martha is Dallas.
Dallas is anxious and troubled about many things on the making of the series, and he would like to hear Jesus saying to him "you are doing a wonderful job, I do not rebuke you at all, your show is so amazing, just remember to listen to me like Mary did".
That's why he extended Jesus' response, and filled it with so much praise to Martha.
This is so true of so many of us! I'm sure you're right!
Well...wait...now in this situation they came in to eat..Jesus started the story as Martha was preparing...could she stop and let the breads burn? All want to sit at Jesus feet to hear the good knews but does that mean he stops talking until its prepared? This is difficult for women, mothers...we can't expect Christ to be silent while we serve him..or maybe He should come into kitchen and speak...am I going to hell for thinking this😂😂😂😂
❤no, it is a good point❤
Jesus said it is BETTER if He go away and the Helper- Holy Spirit- comes. He can now be 100% present with us at all times, even in the kitchen. It is good to invite Him in your day, every day. Lord, come be with me while I clean, speak to my spirit. Come close. ❤
😂 no your not going to hell
To be fair, in this Jesus started teaching while Martha was already working on the food.
Having said that - I do like the way The Chosen have portrayed this with some understanding for Martha and less judgement than is usual.
Aww, that is such a good point! ❤ And they arrived suddenly so she couldn't have really prepared too much food beforehand as she didn't know exactly when they were coming. I do think her worry and anxiousness were the bigger issue than her serving though.
Mary wouldn't have been able to help Martha anyways. Everything she tries to do would be 'wrong' and she'd just be in Martha's way who is moving a 100 miles per hour. You know this is you're a Mary who has ever tried to help a Martha before. Then they get mad at you anyways....
This is odd. Jesus would be sitting like a teacher with long tunic not casual with miniskirt showing his legs. Mary should be on the floor by Jesus feet. That's why Jesus should not wear miniskirt showing his legs to Mary. Totally odd and inaccurate 😮
Martha is cute. But the virgin Mary isn't that cute
