I just would like to give a shout out to Luke who portrays Judas in such a relatable way. He gives him so much depth and humanity. PLUS, Luke is such an awesome guy. He makes my heart break for Judas.
Yes, I realized as soon as we met Judas that oh, no: we're going to really like Judas and then see him turn and betray Jesus. I agree: Judas was not irredeemably evil as some have portrayed him. There is a clay animated movie called, "The Miracle Maker" about Jesus which portrays Judas's humanity (somewhat in the same way as The Chosen:) he expected Jesus to be a warrior who would defeat the romans, but instead Jesus dashes these expectations and explains what will happen to the Son of Man. And that version of Judas is filled with fear about what would then happen to himself. I suspect Luke's version of Judas will act not in fear, but foolishness. This version of Judas has been young and foolish from the start: not learning from mistakes but ever returning to foolishness and childish pride. Naive, foolish Judas dreams of doing something the world will always remember...and he will get his desire.
My heart doesn't break for Jesus he helped to have Jesus tortured spit on NAILED TO A CROSS beaten tortured spit on and hanging alive feeling all the pain Judas betrayed Jesus led his murderers to him there's no sympathy for Judas he's a greedy evil little troll
One of the things I noticed as soon as Judas met Jesus is unlike the rest of the disciples, he approached Jesus first and talked to Him about being with Him. While Jesus approached the others and asked them to follow Him. “You did not choose me, but I chose you”
The explanation of the scripture of “talents” is such an incredible lesson!!! We are not meant to hoard the gifts we are given and the profits we earn. We are meant to share them with others, using them in dedication to The Lord. This is truly an UNLEARNED lesson for so many Jewish as well as Christian believers!! Thank you @thechosensleuth for bringing this to our attention.
I've seen this for the first time in theatre with a Polish narrator. When the words " We trust you Matthew, indefinitely" are spoken, we do not see who speaks and because of the narrator we did not hear the voice of the speaker. It was such a cool surprise to watch it with original sound and hear that these were Peter's words!❤
Way back when Judas was 1st joining Jesus, he had a scene with his sister. At one point they were discussing safety. Judas stated "if he's truly the Messiah he can't be killed." If Judas is operating with this assumption, it adds another layer to his betrayal of Christ in the show.
The bit I remember is when Judas’s sister said she didn’t want the family to disappear from history ( ie Judas ought to marry and have a family), but we were he will be remembered forever.
I don't think Dallas could have made a finer selection to portray Judas than Luke Dimiyan. Luke has those deep soulful eyes and thin facial features that in the beginning enhanced his look of innocence and honor at being chosen. Now his face is filmed partly in shadow. Those beautiful eyes look sunken back and tired. As Judas approached Jesus with the Romans, Judas is ANGRY and then disappointed. I believe for the first time Judas understands none of this will play out as he thought. He will be even more surprised at the treachery behind 30 pieces of silver. I knew that stinker Hadad would be an instigator. I suspect Hadad is amused at how easily he can persuade the feckless Judas. Poor Judas, his trap is set. 😢
Because I like Judas and have so much empathy for him, I want to believe that if he would’ve had two more years with Jesus, he wouldn’t have betrayed him. Since I was young, ive been pressured to make something of myself that could be measured in wealth while at the same time hearing the scriptures every Sunday. Then when Judas goes to visit his friend there is more pressure to take payment. It’s all around us. There is no escaping it. Money can mean safety and security but then we let it self actualize us and we need to let the word of God do that.
There was something i didn't quite agree with when i watched Luke Dimyan's interview in the episode 5 live stream. We know he's always been sympathetic to Judas, and that's a good thing to be, but towards the end he summed up by saying something along the lines of "Judas couldn't help it" almost implying that it was Judas' fate and he didn't have a choice in the matter. I don't know if he really meant it to come across that way, but the way i see it (and the way the Chosen seems to be portraying it) was that Judas absolutely did have a choice. Much like the rich young ruler who wanted to follow Jesus and ALMOST was willing to give up everything - but couldn't quite do it - we keep seeing Judas choose his own way and his own understanding over the lessons Jesus was trying to teach them. Every disciple came to Jesus with a bunch of flaws and misconceptions, as do we all, but the key is that you have to be humble and surrender your will to Him.
I’ve heard this theory before. That Judas really didn’t think Jesus would be crucified but rather he’d push the issue on the Mt of Olives and at that cross road Jesus would squelch the Romans and conquer here on earth. Such an interesting theory. We know none of the apostles thought bad of him when Jesus said one of you will betray me and they all said, “is it I”. And Judas threw away the coins and hung himself. If he just wanted the money he’d take it and go buy possessions.
IF YOU GET A CHANCE. GOODLE CHARLES WRIGHT'S POEM;"ST. JUDAS." J IS GETTING EADY TO HANG HIMSELF, IN HE POEM-AND SEES A MAN BEING BEATEN NEARLY TO DEATH. HE DROPS HIS ROPE, AND CHARLES WRIGHT LET US HSEAR:" ...I HELD THE MAN FOR NOTHING, IN MY ARMS.' HE IS CRADLING THIS BADLY INJURED MAN--BUT KNOWS HE WILL STILL KILL HIMSELF--AFTER. FASCINATING TAKE ONT THE JUDAS CHARACTER!
Did you pay attention in Episode 1 when Judas said to Zee, "Nobody is checking Jesus's books!" He knows that nobody is checking the ministry's finances!
That's why it really put Judas out when Matthew noticed something was amiss. If it weren't for Matthews aversion to following the books he would have pursued it. Despite this I still think this will niggle at Matthew and not fully let drop it in the back of his mind.
28:35 it must be so frustrating being Jesus, and having people misunderstand you all the time, time and time again.. and even worse than that, Coming from your own followers and disciples .. those who are meant to be close to you and understand you. They're the ones who are supposed to understand you the most, and yet they still misunderstand you!
Thank you again! Brandon! Excellent video as always. I was thinking about this when you started speaking about Judas's theme: I wonder if they chose to do three notes (the final note being off-centered) to symbolize the Trinity and to show that Judas may understand some of Jesus's teachings, but ultimately can't (and won't) fully understand Him/God/Holy Spirit in the end. Regarding Judas not knocking on the door, I never thought of that scene being a sign of his deceptiveness (what a great observation!). I assumed it was symbolic of Judas literally not understanding Jesus's "Knock and the door will be opened to you" or any of Jesus's teachings. He refuses, for whatever reason, to fully open up and trust God/Jesus. Do you think that they'll continue to push the "I don't understand, but I'm trying" narrative for Judas or do you think it will eventually change into being something more sinister (such as he adopts bitterness, anger, etc. which leads to hatred and the betrayal)? I love how many layers are in this show. Big shout-out to everyone involved for doing such amazing jobs. I also want to shout out Luke for his excellent portrayal of Judas. I was genuinely saddened to hear he's getting hate from viewers - I think he's doing a great job. EDIT: Welp, I just got to the talents part of the video and felt convicted when you said we need to use our talents for God's kingdom. I used to create art and write all the time, but due to being wiped out from my current job (which is very logistics-based) my creativity is practically non-existent. People around me keep telling me to go back to what God gave me, but I've dismissed their requests. It seems I need to make time daily to do something creative even if it's difficult. I hear you, Lord. 🙋♀
Great points on Judas. Him taking the coins from the purse as well as the silver seems more akin to the Israelites temptation to gather more mannan than needed daily or the sin of self preservation, like Achan or Ananias and Saphhira
Thank you sir for explaining the Bible,it is amazing how you describe every single scripture, you are amazing, and your description of everything is to be good, thank you,I love The Chosen,it brought me back to the Bible
Thank you Brandon! Great insights! You have really helped bring out more meaning to this show. I wondered how the writers would develop Judas this season.
Judas is an example for all of us. Maybe not a perfect example but just the little things that he does that goes against what God wants us to do and be. I fail a lot more than I want to... I'll admit. And if i happened to be forced to walk one mile, my automatic thought would NOT to go two miles (at least in that context in the show lol). A lot of us need to work on our humility.
When you talked about the music first heard you talking about during the laundry and been rewatching the chosen along side watching the S4 watch party but yesterday rewatching S3 Ep1 and was like oh yeah the theme didn’t hear it before
Wow, this is so necessary. God doesn't need our help to accomplish his will, meaning he's not bound to our methods. Judas would've tried to manipulate the mission instead of learning and following Christ.
I saw the scene with the gifts in the box as setting up a contrast for the anointing at Bethany. (I haven't seen episodes 6-8 yet, but I assume this will happen either at the end of this season or the beginning of season 5.) Seeing a woman smash a bottle of expensive perfume to anoint Jesus will probably hit different for both the audience and for Judas when we've witnessed other people giving valuable gifts as financial support.
In the Bible, Judas is the one who points out what a waste that is and how it could've been sold to feed the poor. John 12:1-8 is where the story can be found.
@@jenniferoutlaw1975 Exactly, and in Mark and Matthew this event seems to be the tipping point for him b/c in the very next section he approaches the chief priests about betraying Jesus (Mk 14:3-11 and Mt 26:6-16).
Hi Brandon!! Thanks so much for the insights into the Chosen’s season four- for each episode!! I’m greatly looking forward to your next video breakdowns & livestream!! Thank you & Vanessa for all you do!! Can’t wait!!😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏
I hope we'll get to see in season 5 of The Chosen: the coin in the fishes mouth, jesus whipping the temple (which in an interview Jonathan said that he's very excited to play that scene as an actor) and also Jesus casting out the demon from the man who's so powerful not even chains could hold him so he casted them out into the pigs. Can you do a video on things we might see in The Chosen season 5 based on the things we've already seen?
I'm glad I am getting some insights, even though they are not Biblically based because none of this is actually in the Bible, it's all just assumption, but I never did understand the hows and whys of Judas and I always kind of felt sorry for him and didn't want to judge him at all because the Bible says he repented and went and hanged himself, which to me would mean he felt so badly about what he had done and so unworthy that he took his own life. And that is just very sad. Maybe even if none of this is true, it can help me piece together some other aspects that may have occurred to help me understand why he would do what he did, and then why he would immediately freak out after finding Jesus condemned, give the money back, repent and hang himself. It's inexplicable to me. Some movies have suggested other things, like perhaps he was fooled into thinking that the religious leaders just wanted to talk to Jesus and Judas wanted them to understand who Jesus was, so he took it upon himself to "get them together" so to speak, but then realized he had been used by the religious leaders. There has been much speculation about Judas down through the centuries. What "some believe" and what "others believe" is the difference we have to this day. It's between those who study the Word of God themselves, and those who just listen to others who tell them what's in the Word of God. The ones who study, KNOW. The ones who just blindly believe what others say, DON'T. Perhaps we don't see the truth because of our own perceptions of what "should be" and our expectations. That is the sin of assumption, or even presumption. I believe the children of Israel committed that in the wilderness, and probably we all do on a regular basis. It's a very difficult sin to figure out. Kind of like the sins done in "ignorance" which really means, you don't even know or understand that you are sinning. But it's a very real thing. What we all deserve is hell. What we get for believing is eternal life. We can never repay that because it is a gift, not merchandise. And everything we have, our life, our breath, and all physical things, is from God, not from us. We didn't make any of it. It is all given. So if you believe that, you will never be under the spell of thinking you're not getting what you deserve. Never ask for what you deserve, you just might get it.
Actually, Thanatos was the "god" of death. Hades ruled the underworld. Forgive me for the correction, I am a bit of a mythology buff, even though I am a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Anyway, I love your show and I love The Chosen and most importantly, I LOVE our Lord, Jesus Christ! God bless us all, His children, amen! 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
He should never have gone to see Haddad. I know he went struggling with understanding Jesus's teachings. Thats why you never go visit your past life once you have decided to follow Christ. If youre in it continue on until you find vlaritg in prayer. He didnt hate Jesus, he was mortally convinced that he could help him be the military leader the Jews were expecting. He had no idea at this point what Jesus was doing.
To me this scene is very symbolic of Satan as a snake (serpent) coming out of the box, my mother dreamed of that a few years ago, I came to her rescue (in the dream) and put the snake back in the box! So ya this scene has personal significance, when he messes with Simon, incidentally my mother is terrified by snakes
Also Judas lied to Jesus saying that guy was like a father to him when clearly the guy doesn’t care for him. He doesn’t think of Judas as a son or even a friend at all. Judas called this guy like a father but Rahma truly believed Jesus as her Father. Quite different and a little sad. But Judas is exactly like what the Bible says “they like the darkness more then the light”.
It’s so odd because I’ve grown up as Catholic. I know the story. I know like the back of my hand. I know Judas betrays Jesus and that it needed to happen because of our salvation. But The Chosen just makes me feel bad for him and want him to make different choices and to talk to Jesus.
Love your drawing attention to "the Judas theme" and the function of the (always beautiful) music! But I can't agree that Judas' eventual actions were innocent, or that they had "nothing to do with money." All three Synoptics show him taking the initiative in approaching the Jewish leaders, who he knew wanted Jesus dead. In Mt he starts by asking, "What will you give me?" Lk says, "Satan entered into him" right before that (later, Jn agrees.) This is clearly presented as something much more nefarious than simple misunderstanding and wrong-headed hopes, which all the disciples were guilty of. All three Synoptics say the leaders "agreed" to give him money, as though it were a condition or demand on Judas' part. It looks more like Judas is totally disappointed in the type of Messiah Jesus conceives himself to be, loses all faith in him, wants out, and uses his position to get money on the way out. He quickly realizes that what he has done tortures and kills an all-the-same innocent person in the process. But he still appears not to believe in Jesus and his message of forgiveness, and so he throws the money back and despairs. I don't believe the "standard narrative," universally presented in the New Testament, is wrong, or that Jesus sadly calls him "son of perdition" for nothing. So I disagree with your interpretation this time...but always enjoy your in-depth look at the artistry of Chosen creators! Thank you so much!
judas' letting himself in to haddad's place might seem more *entitled than sneaky. he had had such access as an apprentice. perhaps, in his mind, ending the business relationship did not rescind his right to access. either way, judas views himself as too special and therefore lacks humility. if the key had not been there, he would likely have knocked, not climbed in through a window (too much work, and undignified).

We will for sure do a video talking about what’s upcoming. After season 4 stuff 😁
@@TheChosenSleuth alright, sounds fun! I enjoy these break downs and i'm sure it's alot easier to make them since they're digitally released now
The CHOSEN is that television show that seems to wash the Religion out of Christianity.
But wait!! We don’t know what was INSIDE the bag. He added the coins to the bag but what was already in it?
No that is sick about John the Baptist head in the box😅
River Styx.
I thought he was just using the candle to see as he wrote 😅
Also i thought Judas just coming in was because he thought he was still welcomed there 🤔
Also the 30 cons was the price of a slave in that time.
Nice singing voice !!
Hes kind of playing "Game of Thones".
Hello Brandon. Della Warren here
Judas is going further into his deconstruction journey.
I joined your page last month with $5 a month. I tried to watch Thomas Gers Drunk? and it won't let me.
The last paragraph is truly IT in a nutshell. Wise and to the point. Our Lord is so patient with us.
I didn't realize that there was forging going on...
I'm curious what Judas would have done if Hadad wasn't home. I like Luke, but I'm starting to give Judas the side eye. Lol
Was did Peter want Judas to split the things up in the box and not any other disciple that was there? I just thought that was interesting! 🤔
At first, I was afraid it was going to be John the Baptist.
I thought John’s head was in there 😂😂 I’m so stupid it’s not in scripture
Andrew is hilarious 😂
Poor judas in it all for wrong reasons
Joanna packs stuff like Amazon. Just throw it all in there, who needs bubblewrap for all those jewels.
She’s the one you couldn’t remember her name
yeah 😂
He should never have gone to see Haddad. I know he went struggling with understanding Jesus's teachings. Thats why you never go visit your past life once you have decided to follow Christ. If youre in it continue on until you find vlaritg in prayer. He didnt hate Jesus, he was mortally convinced that he could help him be the military leader the Jews were expecting. He had no idea at this point what Jesus was doing.
Hello again.
Demons can enter humans at anytime when you are not close to God.
Wax = 1st century Liquid Paper. :)
Was thinking the same thing
Wow
Same with Thomas … he is different
Makes Styx the band make a lot more sense!
