HELLDIVERS™ 2 is a 3rd person squad-based shooter that sees the elite forces of the Helldivers battling to win an intergalactic struggle to rid the galaxy of the rising alien threats. From a 3rd person perspective, players use a variety of weapons (pistols, machine guns, flamethrowers) and stratagems (turrets, airstrikes, etc.) to shoot and kill the alien threats. Players can also aim down the sights for a more accurate 1st person camera view. Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Enemy encampments and battlefield environments depict bloodstains and dismembered corpses.

Yea for real. Me personally linking an account isn't an issue, it is easy to do and not time consuming. But I'm growing increasingly tired of being a part of all these companies money making and advertising plots. I just want to buy the product, use it, and be left alone. These tech companies have their own little private ecosystem where they are raking in cash and altering natural consumer behavior with their tactics. Whenever you buy a tech product these days you are paying once for the product and for life with your information.
I'm sure I am in the minority when it comes to caring about things like that. But it gets worse and worse every year with these companies hold on consumer rights and ownership and then getting slop in return while being told you are a bad person for not liking it.
On game start up, there was a skip this option. No where did it say "grace period" "temporarily not needed" "will be required later" i thought steam was doing that for cross platform progression
I mean, it said on the store page since day 1 that PSN is required, and the splash screen did say that the linking was a baseline requirement for play. Why it was skipable in the first place, I do not know. People got plenty of warnings. No excusing Sony here, but Arrowhead sure ain't deserving all this crap. Everyone got told clear as day that PSN was required, as much as that sucks.

@andymartin6084 This SOUNDS mostly out of Arrowhead's control, and I say that maybe, perhaps you should've read the fine print before buying the game? I was about to recently but when I saw that in the description, I backed out. It's VERY disappointing to know that this awesome game is locked behind a faulty company that has constant security breaches.

People ignoring the demand on the store page and the in-game splash screen, aka 2 very big warnings, is not Arrowhead's problem. Not even Sony's, even though I hate Sony. I did not want to make a PSN account, but I did on day 1 because the game said it was required. Anyone pretending this came out of nowhere are over-reacting.
I was brought the game by a friend i knew shit abd never bothered checking the sotre page i saw a skip option on boot up because i got no playstation and honestly never will, so the waaah waah stop crying they said day 1 doesnt really work for some case .

It takes 5 seconds to start bombing.
Whenever an ally throws a stratagem I glance at it to see what it is and determine if I need to run away or not.
People figure out how to take care of themselves a bit.
Also team killing isn't griefing unless it is clearly done intentionally, which is hard to tell the first time. Or even after a couple times.
In voice chat ive said guys I'm launching a 380 in the base to soften it up move away and don't saty near and then two team mates run right in and die

I bet a class action lawsuit for anti-competitive practices would go through pretty easily against Sony on this. It's exactly what Apple and Google have been facing recently.

while im all for sueing sony i dont see it happening since it was stated on the steam page since day 1 that it was required. Also every other game company makes you link certain games. Ubisoft, Epic, EA, Battlenet, Microsoft. Its just that its sony that everyone is flipping their lid its just blinders. Honestly, that little comment there said a lot. I wasn’t happy with the state of the game as it was with the horrible “balance” changes, constant crashes/disconnects, premium currency locking well over half the equipment behind it along with best armors also coming from premium currency ina 40$ dollar game, bugs/glitches and a thousand interactions that don’t work to name just a few. But reading that sealed the deal for me, I will push hard for a refund and forget about this game that could have been.

@@ozylocz4078 that "premium currency" is easily farmable in the lowest difficulty mode at a reasonable rate, for now.
Now that SOnY have put their foot down i expect that to change.
@@ozylocz4078 The best weapons and armor is in the normal free one honestly. I have all of them, the ones in the free pack is always the choice. Use the grenade from the Steel Veterans pack, that's about it for the "premium" one. The others are simple enough to unlock regardless without spending a dime, you also have no time limits on the warbonds, they're not a battle pass. If there is something in one that looks good, you'll get it soon enough with normal gameplay, not a dollar spent outside of the purchase of the game.
AH is a small studio, they were never prepared for this, not even in the wildest dreams. They're honestly doing better than most, at they're actually not doing what most do. Nothing and staying quiet until the players have left then move along as nothing at all ever happened. Also keep something very clear in mind, the IP "Helldivers" belong to SONY since 2013, not to Arrowhead.

No positive vibes for Sony here, I hate the bastards, but people giving Arrowhead shit for something they already agreed to sign up for on day fricken' 1 is not Arrowhead or Sony's fault. Did I want to make a Sony account? Hell no. But that didn't justify reviewbombing the game, because I agreed to these terms on day 1.

Arrowhead isn't dogding anything, dear commenters. They are not able to talk on this anymore than this. If they went out of the box, whatever needs existed for Arrowhead to operate might go poof. What's screwed up is the country numbers. 69/195 countries can make accounts for psn. Sony sold on Steam to 190 countries. THESE are the numbers worth talking about along with Sony's continued questionable crap they're doing as a company.
It's a potential class action lawsuit waiting to happen, the question is, who is at fault?

My plan is simply this:
I'll keep playing as always and once the game locks me out my new entertainment will be watching the player numbers for HD2 go down and playing other games I've neglected since Helldivers 2 came out.

I still have Read Dead Redemption 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverance sitting unplayed in my library, so I have plenty to do.

its not lol, as the CEO said, it was clearly stated that a PSN account was needed to play the game. regardless of if that was being actively enforced, that was the expectation given to all players on all platforms from launch. It would def be NICE for them to be willing to issue refunds for sure, but legally if you bought the game in a country with no PSN support thats on you not them

Stellar Blade is still full of tits and ass. I hardly count that case as a win for censorship or woke agendas. And pc players will inevitably just link accounts. The countries without access to psn probably have like 4 pc players. This shit affects nothing when you're over 30 and grew out of being overly angsty and "fuck the machine!"

i saw a comment talk about shareholder's investment going up if they see more psn accounts (from pc) idk if this is a legit reason but would explain if true, shareholders are usually why a product is less desirable for no reason

They are independent insofar their decisions on game design, micro transaction policy and gameplay.
This game spent 9 years in the oven cooking and it would not have been possible without a gargantuan like Sony stepping in as a publishing partner. This is an undeniable reality unfortunately for many development studios. I just hope AH can stay self owned in that regard going forward. Maybe with the success of HD 2 and its legs they will have the option to choose a new publisher - or just self publish on all 3 platforms going forward.
One can hope. The critical question here is for the players in countres where PSN is not supported. You either refund each and every one of them or you make this an optional link. There can be benefits like cross progression tied to it and cross play and so forth. But make it optional.

If SONY enforces this right, I don't intend to make a tragedy out of it. I play on PC, I don't have a console or a PSN account, if they end up blocking me because I don't intend to create one, I will thank the developers for 250 hours of fun at a good price and I will remove this title from Steam. I'm not going to ask for my money back, the fun was worth the money.

It is really annoying that PC players are essentially soft locked. I had to make a new email account to make sure I could still play the game, so while I’m sure it’ll work fine once I’m needed to sign in, it’s still a massive blow to liberty’s balls

Furthermore: there's not a single person on Earth that knows about the *four* (and presumably counting) SONY databreaches over the last decade and half and would trust them with their data. SONY Data security is garbage. And its more a matter of "when" then "if" your data will be breached with them.

General Democracy Manager of the SES Distributor of Democracy here, 600 hours logged and just submitted my refund request. Absolutely not. "The steam page" is not a legal document and this will literally destroy the games future on PC. Hopefully SONY will stay in its lane and lay off the amazingly themed and terribly coded console port bug riddled games.
Edit: A mandatory 3rd party account requirement is not in the EULA(The only legally binding contract between SONY and the customers), I just went through the entire thing. SONY is toast if they push this and people sue, it's a legal slam dunk regardless of how many high powered attorneys they have leashes on.
The only mention of a playstation network sign in is this "LEGAL DEPARTMENT - WAIVER, AND MUST INCLUDE: (1) YOUR NAME, (2) YOUR ADDRESS, (3) YOUR PLAYSTATION NETWORK SIGN-IN ID IF YOU HAVE ONE"

SES Paragon of Super Earth here it truly was a great run while it lasted, maybe even the greatest I’ve ever seen. But unfortunately my last dive will be on May 30th . We must all make one final stand against the Bugs and Bots.

The steam page said it was required since launch, we didn't read it though, I don't blame arrowhead beyond that they agreed to Sony publishing their game. Regardless, it is ENTIRELY within people's rights to refuse to sell their data to Sony and its annual hackers. Even if it was intended from day 1, it's deplorable and many people who bought and have been playing the game would not have in the first place, myself included, if we were aware of the intended obligatory security compromise account linking to PSN is. It isn't about security at all, it's about boosting PS account numbers and eventually forcing PC players to pay for PS+ accounts to play Sony games through steam. This is for shareholders and data buyers. Data hackers just get to stick their fingers in it too, since it's a given Sony's shoddy security won't really do anything to protect steam players' data.
More concerning is that SOMEONE allowed the game to be sold in countries where people can't make Playstation accounts, which means people who have bought snd been playing thr game will be forced to lose access to the game by no fault of their own. It's not even a technical limitation, since obviously people have been playing the game just fine without PSN accounts until now.
If you want to make an account for a console you don't even own to play a game on your PC just because the publisher wants to sell your data, then go ahead. I'm not going to. It's a shame, I enjoy helldivers 2, but not enough to compromise my security anymore than I have to.

A lot of the outrage has also been about how their community manager spitz and some of their discord mods such as purple pigeon and deliweli behaved during the initial reaction about this announcement. They were belittling people, being dismissive of them, and telling people to break the server's rule about spamming to spam a cheese sticker specifically to try and drown out/bury the people unhappy about the announcement. They behaved extremely immature and only made the outrage even worse by their treatment of the playerbase who has some legit concerns.

They waited THREE MONTHS to tell us this, because they knew people would ask for refunds if they did it any earlier.
Blaming the players for not reading the fine print is abhorrent, disgusting, unacceptable. They shouldn't pass the blame onto the players, they should ask Playstation to change the contract. Clearly they're not on our side.
From LAUNCH the steam listing said a PSN Link would be required, they just didn't enforce it yet. You agreed to it when you purchased it. Yes its dumb and stupid but should not be this shocking.

This is not a hard decision to make at Sony. They can see how things were before this problem and should just allow optional linking and leave it at that. Considering all the issues, breaches, etc Sony/PSN has had it's pretty funny that they states what it's for...
what's scummy is how it is hidden: i bought the game last sunday, 11h in (too late for refund)
the game FIRST ask you if you want to enable crossplay (i said yea, sure why not)
and THEN it ask you to link to PSN account. SO i thought it was for cross progression , especially when it can be skipped and it is NEVER BROUGHT EVER AGAIN.
This is just a scummy tactics to work around steam's refund policy. I would have refunded the game if it could flat out not play it because PSN was actually required
Playing this game, like joining a huge war with a large amount community, there is no other game can give you this feeling you are actually on to something. But now, after Sony decide to doing this, I can't imagine how many ppl is gonna quit this game, I'm just afraid that this game won't have that many players anymore, man it is just really sad and I don't want that happen, I love helldivers 2 so much

The message that we got when we opened the game was that it was optional. That technical issue excuse is a lie.
1. Every game now does multiple accounts. You need it for Activision with CoD and most EA games.
2. Sony should have required this at launch. It's stupid to roll it out NOW after several months of the game being out.

They did require it at launch, the first week it was up but then they removed it for server issues.
Every game most certainly does not do this. I don't play Cod and no one should play Ea games anymore. I have 1100 steam games and I can count on one hand, and have 3 fingers left over, the ones that do this.
Only clean solution I see for this is to keep it optional.
Thats the only compromise I see where all parties involved sort of wins.
Players who want to link to sony's psn are free to do so. Those who do not are free to decline.
That way all involved win some - lose some.
But making it a forced requirement. Regardless of what the terms of service states.
Why disable it at launch then? Why re-enabke it now?

If they wanted the best outcome, they would have said "Hay, if you link your PSN account, you get X amount of Super Credits! Everyone who already did will get their payment on X date (roughly) upcoming." but that is not what they are doing, now is it?

Let's say the countries that can't make a PSN account are allowed to continue to play without one. If the issue really is security from Sony's perspective as they claim then all the hackers and bad actors would just need to VPN into one of those regions as a work around. Further more it would illustrate if those regions don't need a PSN account to play that would imply none of us on steam do as we have been all along anyways. This is at best a cynical ploy to pump their PSN user numbers up for shareholders / get people in to a store front or worse yet it is purely about control

I personally just have issues with giving Sony any form of data relating to myself, they have a terrible track record and since I don't have a PSN account and being in the UK it requires me to have photographic proof that I am over 18, the game also operated fine without the need of another third party account, if it was for just cross play then it would be fine but this is not the case.
I'm also in the UK, and unless I want to steal the identity of one of my family members to play helldivers, I won't be able to play it anymore
If the account linking could be turned off in the beginning, it's not required now. This is a completely unnecessary "feature" that is being forced on the community well after the game has been largely successful so Sony can have access to data (data they seemingly have no ability to protect) or to just boost PSN account numbers for bragging rights with shareholders. Arrowhead was already losing reputation with players due to their bizarre patch/balancing priorities, and now Sony is taking an unnecessary shit on the game as well.
Sony's answer to them on the regional issues will be "get fucked" in corpo speak. It was fun while it lasted Divers. /Salute

another problem can often come in the form of any under 18 players signing up for a psn account now, as you need a "parent" account to make and manage an under 18's account, to make a "parent" account you either need ID or an ACTUAL PICTURE of your face so Sony can decide if you look too young or not. And before people say that you can use your phone number to verify, it is often unreliable
His response was just escaping responsibility for the contract he signed. Arrowhead had a chance to shop to a different production team if they didn't like the terms of the contract.

eight million copies sold fifty percent of that sony. That leaves 4 million on PC. Out of that how many will not make an account after purchasing the game. Maybe one million at most. Leaving over 7 million. The game is not in trouble. Just a big bunch Cry babies. Even Steam has 77k accounts hacked every month and the last big sony hack was in 2011.
last big data breach was in 2023 where doxing info was released (name/ adress/email/password, 2011 was the one where all the debit card info was leaked onto net and info mentioned from 2023 leak.

Let’s be clear; this is entirely Sony’s doing. Arrowhead is/was a small studio and Sony comes along and says “hey, we’ll sponsor the development of a game, you just have to do a couple things.” Great, we get capital to make another game, says Arrowhead. Then, HD2 blows up big time and now Sony REALLY wants their piece of this pie, and Johann can’t say a word against them or AH can get into legal trouble based on the deals they have made. Viva Arrowhead; Shame on Sony.
