Im a commercial electrician in Dallas-Fort Worth area and yes... flourescent bulbs are getting harder to find even at electrical supply houses. LED fixtures are better in my opinion. Most of the time they'll last years but when they do go bad, you change out the LED driver just like a ballast and good to go for a few more years. No more need for bulbs!
100 percent true, fluorescent light fixtures and bulbs are becoming harder to find they are not being made it’s more whatever is left in the market. But let me know if you ever come to Canada I can give you some LED light fixtures for you shop. What you should do is buy some T8 leds that are not ballast dependent. So bypass the ballast and remove it.
Rick, if you see this, also check into the price of fully replacing the fluorescent fixtures with flat panel ones. If it’s cheaper to do what @seancrooker1482 suggested.
Hair dryer or heat gun will remove the label from the box. You may have adhesive residue on the box still. Goo gone or the like should take care of that. As long as it's not anything too solvent .
Hey Rick I was the guy that bought the Mystery Box with the Jungle Green N64 only been a couple hours since we picked up from the store and already pretty far in DK 64
Final Fantasy prelude. My family knows that when I die that is the song to be played when you walk into the funeral home for my viewing. FF is my favorite game franchise of all time.
Just make sure you go slow and steady. You heat it up too close or too fast, you get wrinkles or burn the box. You don’t get it hot enough, glue still sticks and rips or leaves glue on the box. Then you have to try and use alcohol to get the glue off and that can wipe off pigment on the box art.
Glad to be a customer! I haven’t been in the store for a while due to me wanting to order some merch off fan gamer but I’ll be there some time next week. Glad you guys made an update vid!
My biggest pet peeve for gaming is when someone switches a game disk and stacks them on top of other disks instead of putting it back in its case. I absolutely hate that.
Rickory, When people don't wash their hands when they use my controllers, too ruff on my hardware, not handling my discs or carts properly, leaving my games out, leaving my consoles on, wrapping controller cords, or asking to borrow my games to never give them back.
one of my gaming pet peeves is when i buy a game online and the case comes to me broken or has those GameStop stickers on the case that weren't shown in photos. cause i enjoy having game cases in mint condition. also the sticker on the wii U box drove me nuts man!!!!!
On a federal level CFL will be phased out by the end of this year. Linear fluorescent bulbs (The ones you have in your ceiling fixtures) are only being banned in a handful of states as of next year and Arkansas is not one of those states. Since you are a retro shop I suggest you bypass the ballast and use led bulb replacements to keep the retro ambience. (NGL I personally love fluorescent lights so I always advocate for them lol)
Similar to the sticker situation, I got a mint CIB copy of Pokemon Crystal for $2 from a garage sale (this is way back, like 15 years ago) - and they just wrote a big "$2" on the front of the box in sharpie. I was able to get it off with dry erase markers though and I still have the game in my collection to this day.
No, fluorescent lights will be around for many years. But what you should do is bypass the Ballast and buy led bulbs. The other option is to upgrade the fixtures to Led. Lmk I have an amazing electrician in Arkansas 40+years experience
My gaming pet pevee is when they put the price on cover art (gamestop did this long ago) instead outside plastic part. They ruin cover art and basically your buying it as a disc only. I can't even...
@@mariokart8715 I wouldn't know cuz I never buy anything from them and never will. If you saw all those DKOldies non-refurbished "furbished" videos or selling you non working games video. Yeah that says alot about their business. They only care about quick cash.
I hate that too, I’ve bought some PSP UMD Movies that had that, bought off of eBay, didn’t know about the few that have the price on the cover artwork it’s so annoying, & yep those came from GameStop, another general pet peeve is comic book related or book related, I hate when stores put the price sticker on the frigging book itself, like WTF? I’ve seen hardcover comic books, either the oversized ones or the omnibuses that can have like 500-1500 pages & used stores or eBay sellers put their own pricing like sticker on the cover & you can’t get that removed, som-issues me off.
I watched one of the old Retro Rick videos yesterday (titled "I went on a Nintendo 64 Shopping Spree") and realised that Will who served them at a GamePoint store (10:47 in that video) is the same Will who now works for Rick. Full circle :)
Gaming pet peeves: When buying online, the seller throws the game into a plain unlined envelope. Loaning out a game and when you get it back it’s missing the manual or something and you have to practically pull teeth to get it back, only to get back in horrible condition and their their excuse is “little brother had it in his room”. Price tags on the art work or worse yet, art that was ripped because someone just ripped off a price tag (or rental sticker). This also includes writing on the cart, disk, or packaging with a name on it in marker or paint. Hitting up thrift stores and resale shops and only finding sports games. If I ran my own store, ALL SPORTS GAMES* would be a dollar or under and if there were too many, I would make sports bundles and include them with their respective consoles. *except for sports games with high value.
Pet peeve back in NES/SNES days.... when you lend a homie some games and they straight cop your dust sleeves and front like they were never there in the first place.
Man, I use to own the DK jungle green 64 when I was a kid. I haven't gotten around to picking one back up these days. Unfortunately mine burnt up in a house fire after my mom passed back in the day. So cool to see one. If I saw one that was the actual DK bundle I'd buy that on site.
I don’t type this to be mean but only to be funny. As an outsider who only watches these videos, Michael reminds me of Mr. Smithers or Dwight K Shrute. Assistant to the Regional Manager. I’m sure he’s very nice and had a stake in all of this. Remember the Office episode where Michael is hiding behind his door and whispers to the camera “ How can anyone be so self unaware?” What a great show. Anyway good job I love the videos and again I don’t mean to slight Michael, I’m sure he has a stake in all this. Keep up the great work guys!
Fluorescent lights are bad for a variety of reasons including eye/skin irritation, migraines, sleep disruption, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. I'm surprised they weren't discontinued sooner tbh
My day job when I'm not running 1/3 of a Collectibles Shop, is working for USPS. I played Window Clerk at a Post Office to start my career for 4.5 years(I'll be 10 years in July +4.5 added Military time). We have been taught that everything that is sent out, must be in a brown box with only USPS markings or everything must be wrapped in brown paper. This putting the sticker like this on the box isn't even half the issues dealt with working for USPS. This though, as a Shop Owner, Collector, AND working career for USPS, I will say this hurts EVERY organ in my body. F that employee.
Rick - try this stuff to take the label off of the box. I saw a video of a guy working a label off a vintage box and thought to try it. Works great. N-Heptane High Purity 120ml (4 fl oz) Bestine Thinner
Can't think of a gaming pet peeve off hand but I did once let a colleague borrow my copy of The Hobbit. When he gave it back the pages were covered in weed stains x.x
I buy lots of random gaming items and when someone doesn't care about the item getting to the recipient safely (bubble mailer or OG box wrapped in paper or heaven forbid they slap a label on the box itself) grrrrr I get so peeved
Unicorn Overlord is EXCELLENT, it's more like a blend of the classic sega saturn strategyRPG Dragon Force with a lot of elements of Ogre Battle, and has a "Gambit System"-like set up for devising what special skills and attack your characters will use, set things up in certain ways and with the right gear to make a unit effective and powerful
I am currently playing Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door for Switch. Got the game yesterday and I love it. I did play it on GameCube back in the day but not very much because I didn't own the game. I only rented it a couple times. That second star was a pain in the butt having to deal with all that back tracking and those little Puni creatures LOL.
I hate when they ship rare expensive promotional items in the boxes that they came in. I prefer if they put those items in another box so that the promotional box isn’t taped up and destroyed. When I collect the promotional items from Nintendo, Sega, etc often times the original boxes are worth more than the promo items themselves.
I'm playing Final Fantasy XII on ps2. It is one of my all time favorites. I love the gambit battle system, and wish another game did something like it.
Best Buy did that to me with the shipping label on a collectors edition preorder. Of course they were sold out everywhere else so I couldn’t get another one. Definitely returned it. Some of the worst customer service ever.
Rick, you should replace all your fluorescent lights with LED’s now, LED’s won’t fade all of your games covers and posters like fluorescent will. One of my local shops keeps all their funkos up high right next to their lights and all the boxes are trash now.
I bought expensive, and cheap, ps1 games off of ebay and had them shipped in a plastic mailer, no bubbles, wrapped tight to the case. Seriously? Who does that. I've bought amiibo from best buy, mailed in a flimsy plastic bag mailer. Amiibo box was destroyed. What If that was a present. Also a switch Monster Hunter Sunbreak Special edition, mailed it he same way. Box crushed. Sold out. What the heck best buy.
Playing cyberpunk whenever I get any free time. Which is next to none but I try every now and then. Love that game now. First bought it put it in played about 10 min and threw it against the wall. Well buddy of mine talked me into trying it again and gotta say it’s amazing. Haha
Love your game selection Retro. I would like to see the Sega Selection on your video:) have a sickkkkkkkk selection and the store looks absolutely amazing
I make people wash their hands before playing my video games, and if we eat you rewash them. Currently my 5yr old and 6yr old and I are playing Illusion Island for the switch, peach's showtime, wonder, and mario vs dk
I’ve been playing a link to the past on my gameboy advance. I just got it and I just started a new save file on my mint gba sp ags 101 and my dog jumped across my lap knocked it out of my hands and snapped it in half! 🤦🏻
fluorescent light should have been discontinued a long time ago in the US, same as other countries. You'e probably better with LED fixtures, much cheaper
I really wish they would remake some of those older Digimon games. I have been a Digimon fan since the show came out, but didn't really get into the games until the last digmon world on ps4 came out, and I just can't go back to the old ps1 era games anymore.
Every video starts with Michael on a ladder.
😂

Yep. Fluro has been dead for years. I get that you are a "retro" store. So that's kind of on brand.
Rick, if you see this, also check into the price of fully replacing the fluorescent fixtures with flat panel ones. If it’s cheaper to do what @seancrooker1482 suggested.
yes no ballast
0:45 that’s true. It’s super easy to convert those fixture to LED tubes for about the price of those ballasts.
Gotta do what you love, and you guys live it! It is awesome to see the passion come through!
LEDs would honestly make the shop look brighter/bigger
Hair dryer or heat gun will remove the label from the box. You may have adhesive residue on the box still. Goo gone or the like should take care of that. As long as it's not anything too solvent .
I love that Rick's employees aren't just gamers, you can tell they genuinely love the store and want it to succeed.

Final Fantasy prelude. My family knows that when I die that is the song to be played when you walk into the funeral home for my viewing. FF is my favorite game franchise of all time.
my biggest gaming pet peeve was when going to my friends house to play games. and every single game is in the wrong case. lazy bastard blows my mind
😂😂😂 that’s hilarious.
RICK! You can use a hair dryer or a heat gun on low to slowly peel that label off. it should hopefully come off pretty clean. Good luck my man!
yes
Just make sure you go slow and steady. You heat it up too close or too fast, you get wrinkles or burn the box. You don’t get it hot enough, glue still sticks and rips or leaves glue on the box. Then you have to try and use alcohol to get the glue off and that can wipe off pigment on the box art.

40+years experience
The only certainties in life are death, taxes, and Michael being on a ladder
Just finished the main story of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth ...117 hours and still lots of Side Quests to go back to. Absolute masterpiece!
You can also buy retrofitted LED bulbs that look like fluorescent bulbs but cost way less to run.
Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback!
It's fun and educational!
I look forward to seeing you with excitement!

Hairdryer on low and lots of patience...stickers will come off...may take quite awhile but I've saved several boxes
Floor Essence Lighting is being discontinued. It was lightbulbs for rugs.
Yep, fluro tubes are being discontinued in the UK also.

hell yea love the jim lahey meme
Oh cool I saw you ordered a bunch of mig switchs in those boxes I’ll be in soon to pick up mine
my pet peeve is playing a game and someone telling "don't waste your time doing that" or back seat driving what should i be doing when i didn't ask
The LED fixtures are better in the long run anyway. You guys should just start swapping them out as the old ones die.
I'm currently horribly addicted to Elden Ring. I'm a Soulslike fan so I play them all but this one has total control over me. Must play.

9:30 Unicorn Overlord is NOT like Final Fantasy Tactics. The art direction is very similar, but game-play wise, they are very different.
i bought an expensive thing recently and that exact shipping mishap happened. I got a partial refund at least.

Currently playing: Fire Emblem Awakening (3ds) and Personal 4 Golden (PS4)
It’s true… sad. It’s almost the same as just trying to find a standard lightbulb instead of LED
Try visiting Toy Meister on 3900 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach, VA
loving the final fantasy theme in the background ^_^

Amazon did that with my Xbox one box was Annoying as I keep all my gaming boxes
I just finished def jam NY on the GameCube … can’t wait for so cal !! See ya there
Do you have a online store or a ebay store?
Wonder what your price is on the soonic battle adventure 2 been trying to find it in person for years lol
Bestine (AKA Heptane) is you friend in getting that label off without ruining the box. Some heat might help as well.
My biggest gaming pet peeve is that Star Citizen isn’t developing faster!!
i'm playing need for speed most wanted on the ps3, the online multiplayer is still live and its a blast... take me to commy con..
Michael jumped on the ladder first because he knew you wouldn’t be able to reach still.

fluorescent light should have been discontinued a long time ago in the US, same as other countries. You'e probably better with LED fixtures, much cheaper
Unicorn Overlord! It’s actually MUCH closer to Ogre Battle (had the OG version on SNES ‘cause I’m old.) But it’s way better, highly recommended.
Currently replaying Xenoblade Chronicles 1 on the Switch and FFVII Rebirth on PS5
Currently play V Rising and it’s starting to affect how much sleep I’m getting
Yep they are switching everything to LED
Excellent episode!
Just finished the Last of us 2 and now for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
Much Love from South Africa ❤️🤘🏻🇿🇦
I really wish they would remake some of those older Digimon games. I have been a Digimon fan since the show came out, but didn't really get into the games until the last digmon world on ps4 came out, and I just can't go back to the old ps1 era games anymore.
Not gonna lie, I would cry if I walked down a dark alley and that ronald bench was there
Led is a lot better and bright and energy efficient.. I barely waste around $30 in utility bills with wifi led lighting.
