    If anyone is in the market for tires, now's a great time to buy! Purchase a set of 4 qualifying passenger Continental tires between November 1 - 30, 2024 and get a $110 Visa prepaid card by mail. *PROMO Link:* bit.ly/4h8JHN4
    This includes any of the tires I've recently discussed on the channel (ExtremeContact Sport 02, ExtremeContact DWS06+, TrueContact Tour54, Viking Contact 7, and many more)!

    Actually the front vents ARE functional, but when paired with the Circuit Edition wing were found to cause instability at high speeds so Toyota installed a plug. You can actually remove the plugs, they're just held there with double sided tape. (Supposedly this issue was fixed for the 24 model so why the plug is still there on the 24 is a bit of a mystery)

    • @carsfeverguy15
      @carsfeverguy15 หลายเดือนก่อน +51

      @engineeringexplained the Vent is fully functional for the air curtain on your 2024. The plate was installed at port in the US/Canada, because no one informed them of the changes….
      The exit directing the air in the wheel well was changed for 2024 to address the instability , so do yourself a favor and remove the plate :)

    • @aprtur
      @aprtur หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      The 2024 changed the duct shape, but that isn't tied to why the plugs are still there - it's to balance the downforce on the front end to match the wing that's on the Circuit. None of the other trims came with the wing, so they had the vents open. The way Toyota sells the wing and plug kit as an accessory in Japan backs this - they're referred to as "downforce balancers".

    • @aprtur
      @aprtur 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@boknows9333 I'm guessing it's nothing that would cause a problem, but Toyota wouldn't have bothered spending money on making and installing extra parts on cars if there wasn't a purpose. It's probably a minor difference in feel for the front end that the wing caused, and they wanted to neutralize it.

  • @maniUSArmy
    @maniUSArmy 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    You forgot to say that the reason the front bumper vents are blocked off are because this is the Circuit Edition and the high mount (and AWESOME) rear spoiler creates so much downforce that the front end got light in Toyota's testing with the front vents open (as they are in the other 2 trims). Releasing a new bumper just for Circuit to delete the vents would've been cost prohibitive so they were blocked off instead. We now live in a world where BMWs have fake aero for looks and Toyotas do for need . I have a 2024 Circuit as well (white). Enjoy yours and keep making your awesome content, bud!

Dual injection is pretty much the optimal solution as it gets you the efficiency gains of DI with the self-cleaning of port injection, for the cost of a little bit of complexity and a few more parts.

    As next step I will have 2 suggestions:

    On the topic of the 2024 model year being able to lock in the torque split, it actually can't. The torque split is really a suggestion. The computer will still vary the split and try to get it to that split based on conditions. But it often is not achieved and locked in as is suggested. Savagegeese explains it.

    • @EngineeringExplained
      @EngineeringExplained  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      30/70 is the target, there is no “lock” as it’s a slipping clutch. So if you’re in first gear, or at a different rpm, the amount of torque varies, so it has to constantly adjust to that 30/70 target. But the new track mode opens that up, so it’s not constantly hunting 30/70.

    • @coreyw427
      @coreyw427 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@EngineeringExplainedDespite what they say, have they done this primarily to reduce heat in the clutch pack? Overdriving seems like a nice idea but extra heat due to intentional slipping seems like an obvious downside, and I’m sure this is why Volkswagen, for example, don’t use this approach. I’m sure the slip is fine in general use, but ironically it probably causes too much heat when used on track. There are plenty of reports of this. Also, a slight aside on other systems being “on demand” - not sure which exactly you were referring to, but most these days are not actually on demand in the sense they respond only to slip. For example, the clutches in Haldex Gen 4, Gen 5 and Magna diff are engaged based on engine torque, pedal position, steering angle etc - not responsive to slip and have electric hydraulic pumps to enable clutch pressure as determined by the control unit (I.e. not reliant on slip like older Haldex units to drive hydraulic pump).

  • @abikepeddler

    One of the best YT vids on the GRC but a couple important points were overlooked. The reason to buy a Circuit Edition over the lower, less expensive variants of the GRC is not only because of the much lower production numbers of the Circuit Ed that you mentioned but also, that forged carbon roof is a $15,000 part at your Toyota dealer. It is in fact the most expensive single part in the Toyota parts catalog as of this writing, even more costly then body parts for the Lexus LFA! Why does this matter? Well, think of it this way... You are able to buy a low production, handmade vehicle for only $45,000 that has technologies WAY beyond it's cost of admission. This scenario has happened before in the automotive landscape. In 2015 the Ford Mustang GT350R had a $20,000 set of carbon as standard but the upcharge over the more mundane GT350 (non-R) with standard, heavier alloy wheels was only $5000. So for $5000 you ended up with a set of $20,000 wheels (and a host of other upgrades) that shed a ton of rotating and unsprung weight. The lesson is, anyone that was given the chance to purchase a GRC Circuit or Morizo and passed will rue the day as these are the cars that will retain better long term residual values, likely enough to cover their $5000 purchase premium. I'd say it is highly probable that the blue 24' Circuit (and 23' Morizo) will be the specimens to have when these eventually become sought after collector cars in 25 years.
    Honda Civic Type R = FWD. Automatic disqualification as a true car freak.
    Jason, there is a whiff of hypocrisy calling out the VW Golf R for it's blandness after just mentioning how much you typically don't like turbocharged powerplants. Normally aspirated power is in many ways, the "Golf R" of power delivery. A bit boring. Turbocharging on the other hand is often what gives cars unique personality traits. It is one of the reasons I bought a 23' GR Corolla Circuit... I WANTED boost imperfection in a modern car. Heck, my daily driver is a 1983 Renault R5 Turbo 2. It has boost lag you can time with a egg timer. It's 185hp 1.4 liter push rod 4cyl has NOTHING below 4000 rpm and then hits like a hammer once to that mark. But since redline is only 6000rpm, you have just a 2000 rpm powerband... you find yourself VERY busy managing boost, RPM's and hammering through the gears. And even with all the imperfection, it is more fun then any of my other normally aspirated cars because it rewards the driver. When you get it right, you feel like a rally legend. Same with the GRC. When you get it right... it's a legend. Granted, a legend that weighs 1040lbs more then the Renualt.
    Great video and congrats on the new car purchase. ABP

      @@EngineeringExplained Yea, I see what you are saying and get where you are coming from. I should have worded it differently because, I agree with you, fast responding power-plants ARE more engaging because the "engaging" happens RIGHT NOW! So that is true. I should have stated my point differently... like this:
      I completely agree with you about the Golf R. It is somehow sanitized and neutered in how it goes about it's business and how it advertises it's abilities. It is understated. So I thought it odd you'd be off-put by the more manic, rags to riches personality of a turbocharged power plant. To me, what is missing from cars like the Golf R, Subaru WRX TR, and Toyota GR86 is a peaky, weird and wonderful motor. Something with personality. But apparently, Toyota is testing some waters by placing the 1.6L Turbo G16E-GTS out of the GRYaris/Corolla into the GR86 giving it the 300hp verve it needs!
      Funny thing is, in my herd of cars, the GR Corolla is far and away the tamest, most straight-laced thing I own. Cup holders are an unknown luxury item in my other cars, never mind "Lane Keep Assist"!

    Really dislike the blacked out windows. I like to see the drivers eyes, before stepping out in front of them at a crosswalk . These newer cars all seem to have darker windows. Even when I am cycling I cannot see if anyone is sitting in the park car, so I have to cycle a good door width away to ensure I do not get doored. The idea of a window is you can see through it.
    Nice to see a normal sized car for sale in North America, in lieu of a massive Truck or SUV.

    You have inspired me to come clean. Since I was 15 years old, I've been telling everyone I'm 6'2". Truth is I'm 6'1 3/4". I feel so much better now. 😁
    Oh, your new car is pretty cool too.

    I'm surprised Toyota would trust a child like you with a toy like that. You might do something childish and dangerous like drive over 85 mph.
