    • @mardus_ee

      Had Odo not saved the Founders, the Dominion would have chosen to keep going at the Alpha Quadrant; changing the mind of just the Female Changeling was not enough, and Odo knew that.
      There is a possibility, that Odo's healing of the Great Link was negotiated as one condition of the peace deal.

      Honestly no once he was in the link all he is was shared with the the other changelings. I think the only reason he stayed is the fact the link "feels good" I mean odd as it is it apparently feels like a super orgy with the added bonus of literally connecting minds and feelings. I'm willing to bet once a changeling joins the link they hate even being away for a second.

    I was shipping Odo and Kira for a very long time, then they finally got together. Sad they had to part, but if it had to happen, this was the classiest way to do it. The tuxedo makes the moment that much more sad for me, since "His Way" was THE episode for Odo-Kira shippers. A nice throwback. And Odo always wore the tux well.

    • @pittland44
      @pittland44 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      What I thought was interesting was that the first time Odo and Kira met, Kira thought he was interested in her. Odo acted like all he was interested in was the case he was trying to solve, but I don't think so. I think Odo fell for Kira the first time he saw her, and he just covered it up all those years. That's what makes his arc so fulfilling. Odo held out and suffered through all of Kiras loser boyfriends (Bariel was about as interesting as a bag of wet hair and Shakaar was a lecherous dick) and finally got what he wanted more than anything in the universe (even the chance to go home to the great link). You don't see that type of thing much in life, but it was satisfying to see them play it out on the show.

Why couldn’t Odo just answer to Kira’s question about coming back: “Maybe,” “Yes, I will come back after taking care of the Great Link”? It would have been more satisfying .

    Looking back, there was also something special about Odo that set him apart from other Changelings. That's when something occurred to me: When Odo first saw the nebula where his people resided, he had this strong instinct compelling him to go there, and found his home, found the Great Link. You'd think he'd rejoin a lot sooner without hesitation, but he didn't. But why is that? Perhaps… Odo's formation stemmed from the most ancient part of the Great Link, before the Changelings became the Founders of the Dominion, when they explored the Galaxy during a time before Solids rebelled out of fear and a lack of open-mindedness over something they didn't fully understand. I believe the Great Link created him to be independent, to save his people from themselves, from what they've become. When he accidentally killed a Changeling out of selfdefense, perhaps the Great Link secretly compelled his judges to turn him into a Solid, not to punish him, but in truth, so he can experience what it means to be what the Changelings consider a threat, then have a fated encounter with a young, dying Changeling who would eventually turn him back. Maybe he was actually supposed to find himself in the Alpha Quadrant because the Dominion had taken over too much and made too much of an impact in the Gamma Quadrant for him to fulfill this 'life mission' to save his people. All of Odo's experiences, not just the bad, but the good, too, and especially the good ones, were for this moment. Maybe after he was able to convince one of his people of the error of their ways, that the Dominion is wrong, when he linked with the Female Changeling to convince her to put an end to this, he realized his destiny and returned to the Great Link. By doing this, Odo shared his experiences with the Changeling, with the Great Link, experiences of love, adventure, sorrow, struggle, and good people who care for something better. In other words, the Great Link sought to save its children from their anger and the embodiment of that anger in which they founded, the Dominion, and created Odo, who finally fulfilled his destiny in saving his people. Everything he had ever been through had lead to this moment. Now he will forever be apart of the Great Link, and we will never forget the hero of the Changelings, the one who ended the Dominion and saved countless others from their reign.

      sounds uncomfortably religious and pre-destined. there is much that is uncertain though, much as people want to explain every single thing as being part of some master-plan. the notion that there is no such plan and that control is an illusion is indeed frightening, it's too much for many people. it's still the truth though.

    • @teleportedbreadfor3days
      @teleportedbreadfor3days ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@highstimulation2497 I was just thinking he realized what he needed to do at the end. Odo had free will, but it’d be his choice either way as it’d mean to save his people, who already have an instinct to be with the Great Link.
      Besides, DS9 did have a few religious themes with Bajoran culture, most notably during Season 7. But everything has a scientific reason and explanation behind it. ‘Magic’ and all isn’t normally the answer. But what magic *is* normally, however, is science we just don’t understand.
      Not offense intended but you might be thinking too deeply or thinking in the wrong places (or both), regarding my little idea.

      The first 10 minutes of "Up" was a better love story than twilight (and also legitimately heartbreaking). If we're rating better love stories better than twilight we'll be here all week.

      pittland44 My wife and I got very sad during the beginning of that movie. My kids were all there at the drive in and we are looking at each other with a tear in our eyes. We weren't blustering, but it did affect us emotionally.

    'this is the way i want you to remember me' ignore me sobbing in the fucking corner. cause just imagine this with me...what if odo ended up dying with them? that would have been the last time Kira saw Odo and he wanted her to see him in his BEST. I'm sobbing--

    Let's not forget that the Romulans and Cardassians fired the first shots in this war. And that the Founders mistrust of solids was not without reason or some degree of merit. Paranoid? yes. But given the fact that in their natural state, they are extremely vulnerable, it's understandable.

    Kira saying goodbye to a God on a planet of Gods! That should be the title.
    The whole purpose of sending their infants to other worlds was to explore better ways of life and this certainly was one of the reasons. He was a founder who didn't know himself fully.
    Odo was always on a mission. He just had to find his purpose, and this was it.

    Each Founder seemed to me to be different embodiment of a single consciousness. Odo was always their embodiment of Justice. Even back during his days on Tarok Nor, the Cardassians and Bajorans found his judgements acceptable.
